The National Flag Square (Azerbaijani: Dövlət Bayrağı Meydanı) is a large city square off Neftchiler Avenue in Bayil, Baku, Azerbaijan. The National Flag Square covers 60 hectares (150 acres) overall. The area of the upper part[further explanation needed] is 3 hectares (7.4 acres). The square features[further explanation needed] the state symbols of Azerbaijan—the coat of arms and the anthem—and a map of the country.[1]

History

The decree on the establishment of the National Flag Square in Baku was signed in 2007 on November 17. At the same time, a decree was signed on the establishment of the National Flag Day. Every year, November 9 is celebrated as the National Flag Day in Azerbaijan. The foundation of the national flag Square was laid in December 2007, 30 in Bayil settlement of Baku-near the base of the Navy with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev. In October 2009, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order on "additional measures to accelerate construction and installation and improvement of the state flag Square in Baku". From the presidential reserve fund provided for in the state budget of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2009 to accelerate construction, installation and improvement works in the square, Baku City Executive Power received 10 million dollars. additional funds were allocated in Manats. The location chosen for the square allows the national flag to be seen from different points of the capital. The implementation of the project developed by the US company" Trident Support "was carried out by the Azerbaijani company" Azenko". The entire infrastructure has been created on the square with a total area of 60 hectares and an upper part of 31 thousand square meters. The construction works carried out on the basis of a special project were carried out by foreign and local specialists.

I Flagpole (2010-2017)

In the square with an area of 20000 m2, the height of the support erected from 2010 to 2017 was 162 meters, the diameter of the foundation was 3.2 meters, the diameter of the top of the foundation was 1.09 meters. The total mass of the installation was 220 tons. The width of the flag was 35 meters, the length was 70 meters, the total area was 2450 square meters, and the mass was about 350 kilograms. On 29 May 2010, the Guinness World Records organization confirmed that the flagpole of the state flag of Azerbaijan was the tallest flagpole in the world.

II Flagpole (2021-currently)

In 2021, the Turkish company Çimtaş began developing a new flagpole for Azerbaijan.

In May 2024, the installation of the new flagpole platform began in Baku. The total height of the mast is 191 meters. It consists of 5.7 steel conical pipe segments with a diameter of 2 M to 230 m from the pole base to the top, weighing from 13 tons to 9 tons, and a rotating segment located at the top. As of August 2024, the installation has been completed and the flag has been hung for test purposes.The Guinness World Records Organization confirmed that the national flag of Azerbaijan raised on the Square on November 6, 2024 is the largest flag in the world.

National Flag Museum

The museum was built by the relevant Order of the president of Azerbaijan and was established on the National Flag Square, where the solemn opening ceremony was held in September 2010, 1 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Created on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev in the form of an eight-pointed star, the museum is located on the national flag Square under the pedestal of the flagpole. The museum, built on the basis of the projects of Azerbaijani architects and designers and using modern design technologies, displays the restored flags of states, khanates, as well as the irevan Khanate, which existed in the territory of Azerbaijan at different times. There are also end elements of the flags of the XVII–XVIII centuries, coats of arms, Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted in different years. Postage stamps, samples of banknotes, orders and medals, numerous photos and documents reflecting the establishment, formation and development of the independent state of Azerbaijan under the leadership of Heydar Aliyev, the activities of President Ilham Aliyev on the progress of our country are displayed in the museum. The exhibition stands display state flags kissed by Heydar Aliyev and Ilham Aliyev at the inauguration ceremonies after his election as president, the flag of the Supreme Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, combat flags of the types of troops of the Armed Forces and ceremonial clothes. The National Flag Museum, which is one of the Unique Museums of this kind in the world, also displays the Certificate of the Guinness World Records organization confirming that the flagpole of Azerbaijan is the tallest flagpole in the world, various books, photographs, the flag flown over the building of the embassy of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in Turkey in 1918-1920. Most of the exhibits here are on display for the first time. There is also a multimedia installation in the museum
