The President of Cyprus is the head of state and the head of government of the Republic of Cyprus. The office was created in 1960, after Cyprus gained its independence from the United Kingdom. Currently, the President of Cyprus is Nicos Anastasiades, since 28 February 2013.

Uniquely among member states of the European Union, in Cyprus the roles of head of state and government are combined, making Cyprus the only EU state with a full presidential system of government. In actual fact the Cypriot President exercises specific executive powers (Art. 47-49) and has extensive veto powers and the actual executive power lies in the Council of Ministers and the individual ministers (Art. 54).The 1960 Constitution provides for a Turkish Cypriot Vice President with extensive veto rights (Art. 38). Since the withdrawal of the Turkish Cypriot community from the Government of Cyprus in 1963, the bicommunal constitution with checks and balances was de facto replaced by an all powerful Greek Cypriot President with immense powers and prerogatives. In the event of a settlement in Cyprus the presidential system may be replaced by a federal presidential council representing the two communities in Cyprus.
