FlatPress is a multi-platform[3] open source[4] web CMS[5] for the purpose of publishing a blog site on the Internet. It is written in PHP and stores its data in flat files[6] (and thus, without utilizing a relational database).
Description
[edit]Flatpress was primarily developed for the creation of smaller websites, however it is also suitable for medium to large websites thanks to the extendability of the platform via plug-ins and themes. The target groups of the CMS are organizations, companies and individuals who need a small to medium-sized websites. According to statistics from W3Tech, Flatpress is used by less than 0.1% of all sites on the internet.[7] A simple installation process (copying the files to the web server and start the installation routine) allows the immediate use of the software. Some web hosts offer the CMS already pre-installed. Once installed, the software can be expanded with numerous plug-ins and themes. FlatPress includes features such as page caching, RSS feeds, content search, and support for language internationalisation. It is managed with a web backend ("admin area").
Flatpress is licensed under the GNU General Public License.
Documentation and Support
[edit]The FlatPress project maintains a multi-language documentation wiki[8] and encourages its users to contribute there. Support is given in a support forum[9] and website support[10].
Reception
[edit]The commercial white-label website builder kit "Sites" by CM4all[11], publicly offered (among others) by Deutsche Telekom as "Homepage-Designer"[12], utilizes FlatPress as blog widget[13]
