DYK for Pocantico River
On 6 December 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Pocantico River, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that New York's famous Sleepy Hollow was named after "Slapershaven", an old Dutch name for the Pocantico River (pictured)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Pocantico River. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Interactive Brokers Group
You seem to rely heavily on source 4 for the history section. That is not necessarily such a bad thing. Other than that, I am fine with turning the disambiguation page into an article as soon as your screenshots come in. PointsofNoReturn (talk) 03:52, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- @PointsofNoReturn: Yeah, I know, and it's not ideal but it's the only source for the information. Regardless, it passes as a reliable source because of WP:SELFSOURCE. None of those historical claims are wp:exceptional, and the other 4 points listed at SELFSOURCE apply pretty simply.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 04:00, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- With that said, the screenshots will take forever because IB has to write a permission statement, have it approved internally, send it to Wikimedia, and send me the file; only then will I be able to upload it and add it to the draft. I wouldn't wait around for any of this; I'd recommend pushing the draft without the screenshots, we can always add them later.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 04:04, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- Fair enough. So which draft do you want to go where? PointsofNoReturn (talk) 04:18, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- Also, would you like me to move the current Interactive Brokers article to Interactive Brokers Group and use your draft for Interactive Brokers? PointsofNoReturn (talk) 04:32, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- @PointsofNoReturn: well, the User:Ɱ/Interactive Brokers draft should go to Interactive Brokers and the User:Ɱ/Interactive Brokers Group should go to Interactive Brokers Group (you'd create a new page).--ɱ (talk · vbm) 04:37, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

- I have moved the two article to their respective places. Tell me if I messed anything up. For example, the fair use image for the logo is now in the Interactive Brokers Group article. Should it be moved back? PointsofNoReturn (talk) 04:48, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

category Irvington
I removed the category because Irvington is part of Greenburgh, which is already in that category. PointsofNoReturn (talk) 22:52, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- @PointsofNoReturn: If the category were 'Towns on the Hudson', then it wouldn't be applicable, but because Irvington is a populated place, Irvington does apply for the 'Populated places on the Hudson' category.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 23:04, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- In other words, some pages only go under the specific subcategories, but in the 'Populated places on the Hudson' category, every populated place should be listed, regardless of the fact that it might be a subsect of another area listed.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 23:07, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- If that is the case, then we need to add about a hundred towns into the category (there is a list article with all the towns wikilinked in the infobox of the Hudson River article). PointsofNoReturn (talk) 23:20, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- @PointsofNoReturn: It'll end up being a lot fewer, not many towns, and very few villages or CDPs have categories to add.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 23:30, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Should we remove Greenburgh and add Dobbs Ferry, Hastings, and Tarrytown? PointsofNoReturn (talk) 00:43, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Well Dobbs Ferry and Hastings don't have categories of their own, so I'm not going to add them, but I will add Tarrytown.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 01:00, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Hook ideas
Hi, I saw the discussion on WT:DYK but couldn't participate due to my time zone. I suggest you formulate a hook like "... that in the history of Briarcliff Manor, the village has experienced an A, a B, and a C?" (substituting interesting events for the letters). Alternately, you could do a piped link, such as: "... that it cost the New York Department of Transportation $900,000 to repair a sinkhole in Briarcliff Manor?" customWatchlists
Congrats again on the recent GA, both of them! I saw that you had tried out customWatchlists and wanted to ask what you thought of it. For me, I hate when I miss changes to pages I care about, whether because I haven't checked my watchlist in so long, or that those pages blended in with the masses of other pages I watch and I just missed it. So I made customWatchlists so I could organize everything. Do you have the same problem? Was the script helpful in that regard? What could I do to improve it? Sorry for being so inquisitive, but as far as I know you're the only one who has tried it out. Just eager to get a second opinion. Thanks! — MusikAnimal talk 22:08, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- @MusikAnimal: No problem; I check out different scripts all the time, and I've been searching for ones that'll simplify watchlists. I found that for most cases, I don't watch enough pages to necessitate breaking up my watchlist, but when I spend a weekend or sometimes a week away from the computer, it should help with that quite a bit.
- I did find that customwatchlists adds a box to the watchlist page that takes up quite a bit of room. I wish there was a way to hide the original watchlist options box and other text, to more easily just see the changes, with less scrolling down. So with customwatchlists taking up even more of that vertical space, I suppose there should be some way to remedy that.
- I also wish there was a more convenient way to move items from the general watchlist to the specific ones; as it stands you'd have to go to the articles, unwatch them, and rewatch them in a custom watchlist? A list of all items you're watching and drop-downs next to each for moving to other watchlists would be ideal.
- Other than that, it seems like a very good tool. There should be a place to list everyone's tools, or otherwise it's hard for others to find them.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 22:54, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for the valuable feedback! I like the idea of squashing some of the less-used content at Special:Watchlist. I'll brainstorm some ideas for that. As for adding pages to your customwatchlist, there should be a "cw" link added to each entry of your normal watchlist, like "(diff | hist | cw)". Clicking that will open the manager interface. This may have not been implemented when you first tried it out, though. Also, you do not need to unwatch before adding to a custom watchlist. When you add to a custom watchlist it will add that page to your normal watchlist as well, but never unwatch. I'm working to find a way to make this more intuitive. Finally, I was thinking I'd write another script that can be ran the first time you use customWatchlists. What it would do is go through all the mainspace pages you currently watch and assign them customWatchlists based on their WikiProjects. That might be a difficult script to write, and may create too many unwanted customWatchlists... maybe just make it so that you can specify which WikiProjects you want to have a customWatchlist for. I have tons of ideas... it's a one step at a time type thing, since a script like this is so complicated I don't want to work really hard and then find a better way to do it. Hence why the feedback is valuable :)One more thing, Wikipedia:User scripts is the unofficial homepage to list user scripts. There's several watchlist-related ones, namely User talk:UncleDouggie/smart watchlist.js, but I couldn't get it to work and it seemed too convoluted for my needs, which is how customWatchlists was born. Thanks again! — MusikAnimal talk 23:36, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- I forgot about the cw button, that's good. It should allow removing from the general watchlist; that's the main reason why I'd create a second watchlist, to unburden the first. I think the WikiProjects idea is pretty good, and may be very useful for some, me included. And thanks for showing me the user scripts page; I figured there must be something like that around, just didn't know where I would find it.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 23:51, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Is there something wrong with the cites I used for these two police departments? Do you find the reports unauthoritative? Paul, in Saudi (talk) 02:50, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
- @PaulinSaudi: As I stated in my edit summaries, you're referencing a very minor incident between members of the two forces, an issue which is totally irrelevant in the article. And if you just want to cite these forces' existences, then cite the city governments or the police departments' own webpages.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 02:55, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
- If you do not like my cites, but think they are factually correct, please provide some cite you prefer. It is unclear where there is a rule that news articles about minor events are not good cites. Removing cites weakens the project. Kindly restore your deletions of the cites. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 03:22, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Armonk
Hello "M" on Wikipedia,
I would like to know your "real name" and whom I am communicating with at this time. Why did you delete information regarding Heavenly productions Foundation on the Armonk, NY Wikipedia site?
Heavenly Productions Foundation is a certified 501c-3 not for profit charitable organization dedicated to helping children in need or in distress. It is comprised of an executive board and members who wish to promote volunteerism and goodwill in an effort to help lift despair in children. We encourage the participation of our volunteers to help raise awareness as we offer hope to children in need. So far, the Foundation’s Backpack Outreaches have helped over 5,000 children including the following schools: Yonkers Public School #23 in Yonkers, New York, Mount Carmel-Holy Rosary School in East Harlem, New York and Public School #100 Isaac Clason School in Bronx, New York and have brought much joy and happiness to these children in need. Heavenly Productions Foundation plans on focussing the backpack projects in 2013 to schools that were affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Heavenly Productions Foundation has produced various projects to raise money to help children in need. The first project was the creation of the “Heavenly Lullabies CD” which helped the Babies & Orphans of 9-11-01 and the second project, “Heavenly Skies & Lullabies Illustrated Song Book & CD” helped the children affected by Hurricane Katrina. Since 2003, Heavenly Productions Foundation has donated money, Heavenly Lullabies CD’s, Heavenly Skies & Lullabies Books/CD’s and supported the following organizations: the Twin Towers Orphan Fund, World Vision, Operation Gratitude, St. Vincent’s Midtown Hospital, Habitat for Humanity in Kansas, Kips Bay Girls & Boys Club, New York-United Cerebral Palsy Foundation, Blythedale’s Children Hospital, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and the March of Dimes. Most recently, Heavenly Productions Foundation released a song entitled “Winter Wonderland” on iTunes in support of Project Oatmeal and all net proceeds goes to support the Food Banks of NY and help feed the poor. Heavenly Productions has made several trips out to Long Island, Breezy Point, Far Rockaway’s and other area’s of New York delivering much needed food, supplies and clothes to families in need affected by Hurricane Sandy.
We are a part of the Chamber of Commerce. We are certified with the IRS.
Please let me know as i will bring this up at Armonk's next Town Meeting and Chamber of Commerce meeting.

The Wikipedia information on Armonk does list some of the businesses in Armonk as well as the Library and about the Frosty the Snowman Day. Why is Heavenly Productions Foundation, a very active charity in our community that even does Operation Teddy bear projects with Armonk's school HC Crittenden not allowed to communicate that it is an integral part of Armonk. I supplied you with information from one of our Press Releases. Let me know what information is then allowed.
PS By the way, your comment to me was update. Before you used the word "puffery" about our charity. "In law, puffery is a promotional statement or claim that express subjective rather than objective views with no reasonable person would take literally." "Puffery serves to puff up an exaggerated image of what is being described...." If you took the proper time to even do a bit of research about our charity, you would learn about all the good we have done to children in need in Harlem, Bronx, South Bronx, Far Rockaway, Yonkers, Long Island and even as far as Ghana, Africa, Haiti and Jamaica.
I would be very careful of what you state here on Wikipedia, I took images of what you wrote about our charity which I now deem as defamation of our charity. I will speak to our charity's law firm tomorrow.

- Hello Dr. Fallon,
- I am an experienced editor here on Wikipedia, where I have considerable background in writing articles on municipalities and communities, such as Armonk. As well, I am a Westchester native and am very familiar with Armonk and its surrounding area. If you believe Heavenly Productions Foundation has significant notability, write an article on it, because it is not appropriate for articles on entire municipalities to mention each and every charity or good-hearted organization within its borders. In general, articles like Armonk shouldn't mention any business corporation, whether non-profit or not. If the business corporation has significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, then mention can be made. Please see Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) for more specifics. If such an article were created for your charity, then it would be fair to briefly mention in the Armonk article that the corporation is located there.
- Now as for "puffery", that was my edit summary for an edit of mine where I cleaned up the Frosty the Snowman day section of the Armonk article. The word "puffery" was never used in an edit summary for an edit changing anything related to your charity. As for your open threats, I really don't appreciate them, and the Wikimedia Foundation fiercely supports its editors and its policies.
- Cheers,

2013 Spuyten Duyvil derailment
We named that article with the month because there is still the possibility that someone will write an article about the July 2013 Spuyten Duyvil derailment, the one that was just the freight train but happened at nearly the same location. I can understand creating the redirect, but try not to use the non-month name for that accident in article text. Thanks. Daniel Case (talk) 03:55, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- I figured there was probably some reason, thanks for the explanation.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 03:57, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Briarcliff Farms, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Broadway. It looks like a modified version of the draft was implemented? I don't plan to get involved, but just wanted to know if it should still be in the queue as an administrative issue or if the request edit should be closed out. A lot of people respond to request edits but don't update the template. CorporateM (Talk) 03:14, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
- CorporateM: I don't think it was finished; I'll get back to this/you/the other parties soon and resolve all of it; I've been terribly busy. Thanks.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 05:16, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, no need to involve me. I also do paid editing, so I try to avoid request edits from other independent paid editors. My inquiry is purely administrative. CorporateM (Talk) 14:43, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes, merge is different to AfD, but the merge option was thoroughly discussed at AfD, and the consensus was to keep the article rather than merge it. StAnselm (talk) 21:19, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
- It was hardly discussed, but regardless, it's the wrong forum to decide whether to merge or not, and therefore the merge proposal is still entirely valid.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 21:20, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

LEGO Castle set images
Hi, just wondering why remove image lugnet links for the readers/users? When a reader can just 'click' the link to set image right away. What you have created is an extra steps for anyone to search either on their mobile phone or desktop. In other words they would have to type or copy and paste. The behind it was to make simple and not harder. So, can you explain or reason why you remove the links of LEGO Castle set images. There are a lot Lego fans over there years who spend time to added the information and links to the page. Thank you. GoTLG (talk) 23:51, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
- Per Wikipedia's External Links rule, no external links should be placed inline in an article. It's a standard that exists over every quality article. As well, why direct to LUGNET when many would rather use a source like BrickLink, BrickSet, or Brickipedia? We shouldn't be the ones to choose that source, and readers are educated enough by now that they can easily search something like "70404" on Google and go to their preferred site of reference.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 00:23, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
DYK for Valhalla train crash
On 6 March 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Valhalla train crash, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the driver killed in the Valhalla train crash (wreckage pictured)—the deadliest in Metro-North Railroad's history—had her Mercedes-Benz ML350 on the tracks for about 30 seconds before the train struck it? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Valhalla train crash. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Revert to Cornell University
I think I deserve a better explanation than "Come on" for your reversion that reinserted the completely superfluous word "located" and the unnecessary (and ambiguous) "American" in the lead of Cornell University. ElKevbo (talk) 04:37, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- ElKevbo: An IP removed them without leaving an edit summary, so I should have the right to assume it was vandalism. As for the terms, they provide clarification. As well, "American" is a common standard. Look at the WP article of any US-born or -based actor, songwriter, author, college, company, etc. and you should see "American" in the lead. On Wikipedia at least, it is not considered ambiguous; it is a standard adjective to describe a US resident or US-based institution.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 04:45, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- First, you absolutely do not have the right to assume it was vandalism. Second, you still haven't explained why you insist on the redundant phrase "located in" when simply writing "in" is shorter and has the exact same meaning. ElKevbo (talk) 04:48, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- ElKevbo: It's a guideline, it's still within my rights. Many (most?) editors will automatically revert any content removal by an IP who doesn't leave an edit summary. It's pretty standard, just as much as the "American" thing. As for the word "located", perhaps it's slightly subjective, but I feel it gives more clarity: that the school itself is located in Ithaca. If I hear "the school is in Ithaca", I can easily presume that's only one of many locations, some perhaps even larger or more significant than the Ithaca location.--ɱ (talk · vbm) 04:54, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
