- Gosh, that was a quick turnaround! I guess Boxing Day is as good as any, give people something to read while they nurse their post-Christmas hangover. - Thank you for the article "about the 2017 final of the EFL Trophy, an annual competition for clubs in the third and fourth tiers of the English football system. The match that year was contested between Coventry City and Oxford United, at Wembley Stadium, with Coventry the winners by 2–1. Disclaimer: I am a supporter of Coventry City, and I was at the match myself, but obviously I've written it from what I hope is a neutral point of view, with equal attention to both teams and due deference to what's written in sources."! - Which message do you prefer for Christmas, yesterday's great mystery of today's joy of heaven and earth? - You're welcome Gerda Arendt, and it's a great honour to be upon the main page at TFA again. Both those hymns sound nice for Christmas, but maybe I'll go for the joy, since I think that something we need to remember at these difficult times! Our Christmas was joyful, but low key this year. Hoping you and yours had a good day. — Amakuru (talk) 21:28, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you! As you may know, we celebrate from Christmas Eve (24) + 2 days, and at Bach's time in Leipzig, they had even 3 days of Christmas (and Easter, and Pentecost), that's why we have all these cantatas, - see Christmas Oratorio. I couldn't decide which message - not just one song - to prefer, so run them both, and you pick ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:45, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Thanks! I was in Germany for Christmas when I was around six, we were living in Aachen at the time, but I had forgotten that it was celebrated for two days. In fact I remember something happening on St Nicholas day on 6 December, he mysteriously delivered presents outside the door of the apartment! Good to see a message for each of the two days anyway

Bit of a mess here, hope you can help clear it up. I erroneously moved the page to "1953 film" and another editor tried to move it back but couldn't do so over the redirect, so he renamed the page. Then he filed a requested move. I went ahead and filed at WP:RMTR, and that move request was promptly taken care of. Now, could you close the requested move discussion? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 23:54, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: thanks for the message, and I see this has now been taken care of. For what it's worth, you can do this sort of closure yourself as a nonadmin - if it's obvious why you're doing the procedural close, and you explain in the closing summary then nobody would object. Always happy to assist if you prefer me to do it though. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 07:03, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you. I wasn't aware that I could close it. I was more worried about the tag on the article, which was placed there by a bot, but I see that the bot has now removed it. Best, Yoninah (talk) 13:08, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Create protection
Hi there, I'm dropping you a message because you create-protected Aayush Sharma. A version of the article has been submitted at AfC but can't be approved until an administrator unprotects it. I thought I'd leave you a message in case you wanted to review the submission. Thanks! Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 04:19, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Kohlrabi Pickle: thanks for the message, and it does look to me like there are more substantial reliable sources on Sharma now than there were at the time of his AfD. I've therefore modified the create protection so that any autoconfirmed can create him. Therefore you can feel free to approve the AfC submission if you deem that appropriate. Looking at the draft, it does look like it needs some tidying up, for example sentences like "Unfortunately, his first movie was declared as a flop at the box office because it simply failed to impress the audience" don't seem encyclopedic in tone. But perhaps, as you say, that can be handled in article space. All the best. — Amakuru (talk) 11:51, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Amakuru, I'll approve the submission and do some work on the article too. Many thanks! Kohlrabi Pickle (talk) 15:45, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

Help with COI on Ruth Williams Cupp article
Amakuru, Yoninah suggested I reach out to you since you have experience on Conflict of Interest issues. I created the article Ruth Williams Cupp and I am trying to get the article up to DYK status to be posted on December 16. However, I have a conflict of interest on the article since I knew the subject and her family. I wanted to clean up any COI issues before the DYK date (if that is possible). If you have any advice or suggestions regarding the article, I would love to hear them. Remember (talk) 18:03, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Remember thanks to you for the message, and to Yoninah for suggesting you talk to me. Unfortunately though, I may not be the best person to advise, as I haven't worked very much in the conflict of interest area. Obviously it's correct that you've noted your COI on the talk page, but looking at the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, it seems like you may need to avoid editing the article in question due to the "Do not edit articles about yourself, your family or friends" rule. Sorry to keep batting you around, but perhaps posting a query at the WP:COIN would be a good way forward? Although that's primarily used for reporting others' conflicts, I'm sure you'd find knowledgeable and helpful people there if you raised the question with them. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 21:23, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! I will try that! Cheers! Remember (talk) 21:38, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Laos
I know it's not specified, but the "most important thing in the article" rule really only applies to blurbs, not observances. Otherwise, we wouldn't allow for things like Independence Day in Cameroon. —howcheng {chat} 03:41, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Howcheng: thanks for the message, and I take your point - you've been doing OTD for years, so I guess whatever convention you're using makes sense from that point of view. It might be worth modifying the rules a bit to make that clear. That said, in this specific case I also feel like there should at least be some clue given in the linked article as to what the day is about, though. From what's written in Laos I can make an educated guess that the National Day coincides with the abolition of the monarchy on 2 December 1975, but that should be set out in black and white and properly cited, and ideally also with a bit of a note as to why it's an important day. Otherwise readers have no idea why we're mentioning it to them. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 11:11, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Edit war about a railway line
Could you stop your edit war on Weaver Junction–Liverpool line please? If you have any objections with that title you may wish to use the talk page. --PhiH (talk) 18:00, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- PhiH please see WP:BRD. You boldly changed the title, which is fine, but once it's reverted you should be discussing and seeking consensus rather than simply redoing the disputed change. Lines are named according to their WP:COMMONNAME, which for lines without their own specific title generally means the start and end destinations. Another editor also disputed the move, on the grounds that it names a junction at one end but not at the other, so you can't claim there was any consensus on the talk page. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 19:06, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- The comment was about the other end of the line and not about the terminus at Weaver Junction. User:Redrose64 was suggesting an alternative but I preferred to use Liverpool. Because there were no other comments I chose Liverpool as the terminus. After there had been no comments about the terminus at Weaver Junction as well I don't understand why you are missing concensus there. --PhiH (talk) 19:19, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Somewhere on the main page you can find International Harvester Travelette which currently is practically unsourced. I suggest its removal. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 08:19, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: thanks for the heads up, and yes that is not currently suitable for inclusion on the main page. Per my comments just now at WT:DYK, it seems that the content was substantially changed after the hook was approved. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 09:42, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

- That was such a strange discussion. I recommended to withdraw early, but who listens to me ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:54, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: quite so... sometimes, when fairly clear evidence of notability is presented, it's best to back down on these things rather than continuing to argue. It's sometimes hard to change minds though! It's been a nice week actually, as our orchestra met again after the recent lockdown ended, and we did a play-through of Symphony No. 40 (Mozart), one of my all-time favourite pieces. Also trying to get some work done on Paul Kagame, to keep the FAR people at bay - quite a lot to be done there to bring it up to date... Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 10:59, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

ITN recognition for Gérard Houllier
On 15 December 2020, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Gérard Houllier, which you nominated and updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:38, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi, the same IP keeps adding in an unnecessary and unsourced section at the top of the article (here is the page history). Could you leave some kind of notice on his talk page? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 23:36, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: sorry for the delay replying. I do agree that the section in question is not really adding value to the article. I would say at first glance that it looks like a good faith effort by the IP to improve the article though, and ultimately it's a content issue rather than outright disruptive behaviour, so not really something that would warrant a warning. Unless they were edit warring of course. Anyway, It looks like there haven't been further changes since your revert last night so hopefully that's the end of the dispute! Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 00:37, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- OK, thanks very much. Yoninah (talk) 00:41, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

- Consolation goal... I wonder how that ended up in the glossary................. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 22:32, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: - I've run a search for "consolation touchdown", and it seems to return only results from UK websites reporting on NFL games. Which suggests it's not a term with which our friends across the pond would be familiar. Whether its meaning is obvious from the normal English usage of those two words is hard to say... of course it's obvious to us, because we've been hearing it all our lives, but maybe not to someone else? It's also ironic because in most cases the goal is no consolation at all. I don't think Brazil suddenly felt all cheerful, just because they lost 7-1 instead of 7-0... Hope you're having a good weekend anyway, and a Happy New Tier to you and yours. — Amakuru (talk) 11:14, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
- Indeed, all is well now the link's there for the glossary. Phew. In other news, my enclave of Essex is still Tier, yet surrounded on three sides by Tier 4.... Still buggered Xmas though as we were going to Kent but such is "life" these days. Hope all is well with you and yours. The Rambling Man (Hands! Face! Space!!!!) 11:18, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi, this really has to stop. Since November 29, an IP has persistently reinserted the same new section on the "Scroll of Secrets", whatever that means, written in a heavily OR style with very little sources (one is a blog, one may be a good source but is not cited throughout). I keep reverting it, the IP keeps reinserting it. Where do we go from here? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 17:20, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: thanks for the message, and I agree that the material is not suitable for inclusion in its present format, as the language is completely inaccessible. I've therefore removed it again, and left a warning a the IP's talk page. I don't know anything about this topic, and I have no idea if the "scroll of secrets" is a noteworthy aspect of that person's life or not. The book cited, [1] does seem to be a genuine published source, but it could well be a WP:FRINGE theory of some sort. The text that was added was not decipherable enough for me to have any idea what's going on! Hopefully a discussion can take place at the talk page. Cheers and hope you're having a good weekend. — Amakuru (talk) 11:08, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

- @The Rambling Man: excellent news! And hoping you had a pleasant non-Kent-based Christmas. The 1987 FA Cup sounds like a great plan. I have a few books on the history of Cov so can definitely get some good sourcing there. In fact, a fair bit of our route to the final is already written up at History of Coventry City F.C.#1983–1987: Rebuilding the team and FA Cup win, so I will try to get the ball rolling with some WP:COPYWITHIN on that shortly. I'll also look at the 1997 final shortly when I get the chance. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 17:43, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Happy Holidays
Been sometime since we saw you at WP:ITN/C hope all is well. Sending across best wishes to you and your dear ones for the holidays and for a very happy new year! Cheers Ktin (talk) 19:11, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Ktin: many thanks for the message, and wishing you and yours a very happy festive season and joyful new year as well. All is fine with me, thank you for asking. Just been a bit less active on the Wiki than usual over Christmas, but I will no doubt be back at ITN and other places before too long! Cheers to you — Amakuru (talk) 01:04, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Amakuru:, Greetings. I know you had mentioned sometime back that you had written a few articles including a few FAs about the conflict in Rwanda. Can I ask you to have a look at Pierantonio Costa and see if there is any content that you might be able to add. Please do not worry if you are short of time, or if there is no additional content. Thanks. Ktin (talk) 22:02, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

HAPPY NEW YEAR to any talk-page watchers
Happy New Year!
It's been a strange and difficult year for many, but throughout it all we've continued building this great project here. This isn't conventional social media, but it's still great interacting with you guys every day and I'm very glad to have Wikipedia here, and all the friends I've made here in the community over the years.
And to celebrate the new year, here's a photograph I took many years ago at Rusumo Falls on the Kagera River, with Tanzania on the left and Rwanda on the right. A beautiful scene, but one which has also seen some dramatic moments in history. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 20:25, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

1987 Cup Final
Hey dude, I suggest we get a match summary in there, tidy up the post-match and then get it to GAN. It's far more comprehensive already than most GANs, but needs the report/tidy-up. I think then if you have some other sources from books on Cov etc, we can add those in for FA, whaddyareckon? The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 11:52, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: Yep, good plan. I haven't managed to find as much wiki-time as usual recently, but hopefully do some more expansion today or tomorrow if you don't get to it first! Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 15:25, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- I've done the first half, it would be great if you could give it a squizz and check for errors, typos, repetitions etc. If it's passable, then I'll try to get the rest of it done tomorrow. Perhaps you can focus on the post-match stuff, find some open-top bus quotes?? The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 21:33, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
- Done second half and extra time. Phew. And now just the post-match section to neaten up and organise. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 16:54, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- Great, cheers mate. I'll finalise the post match stuff this evening or tomorrow morning, then we can get the ball rolling on shiny badges. — Amakuru (talk) 20:05, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- I took a massive liberty of starting the GAN. It can take weeks/months to get plucked off the list so I thought we'd just crack on, it's in pretty good nick already. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 20:07, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello dude, hope all is well. Two things, (a) when this goes to GA status, I'll nom it for DYK, any thoughts on a dandy hook? and (b) when this goes to GA status, we should formulate a mini-plan on FAC, what say thee? The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 14:56, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: yeah, not too bad. As you say I'm deep into the home-schooling again, trying not to tear my hair out manning the ship while the other half is off doing long hours every day making sure the vaccination IT systems don't fall over in a heap. Hope things are OK at your end too. I'm not usually the best at doing hooks, the great and the good of DYK sometimes accuse mine of being "boring"... but possible themes might include Curtis saying "our name is on the cup" in January, or perhaps something about Spurs taking the lead after 2 minutes. Or it being regarded as one of the greatest finals. Or any other ideas that you have! Re the FAC I'll scour my books for any additional material. I've just noticed one snippet in the history book about Jimmy Greaves predicting our demise in every round of the competition, which could be DYK material too actually. But I'd have thought it's more or less there anyway. I'm happy to get it up and running whenever really; I currently still have Kigali as an outstanding solo FAC, gathering dust a little, but we're both allowed our parallel co-noms so all good there. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 16:21, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, I'll add Kigali to my to do list at FAC to keep it up and running, despite the new (bizarre) ruling of Gog whose inconsistent approach is utterly infuriating, but we'll just crack on. I'll have a think about a hook or two, but yes, the additional material would be good, there's no major rush but I think it's a 7-day cut-off for new GAs. I'll submit for joint-FAC shortly. Good luck and keep strong with the homeschool. I'm doing 6 hours of that, then 6 hours of work, then bedtimes, then 2 more hours of work... What a time to be alive!! The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 16:25, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- Fun times! And yeah, everyone's entitled to their opinion, but it's hard to see a way forward when a request seemingly doesn't match what's in any other articles, including those that have been scrutinised by other non-experts such as at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/2018 EFL League Two play-off Final/archive1. I'd expect and hope that the coords would take such an impasse into account when evaluating, but who knows... — Amakuru (talk) 17:08, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

A userpage of yours
Hello, I recently ran into this page of yours, User:Amakuru/Gentes, and was wondering if you plan on doing anything with it. Avilich (talk) 16:22, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Avilich: and thanks for the message. I barely remember what I was using that page for, to be honest! I suspect there was a requested move discussion concerning a page with "gens" in the title, and I noticed that there are lots of such articles which unnecessarily include "gens" even though the title is unambiguous. The "Unclassified" section would be all those that I never got around to classifying before I forgot about it and moved on to other things! Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 17:26, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Amakuru, thanks for the reply. I asked you this because, in the past, some editors have moved these pages to the shorter title thinking that 'gens' is an unnecessary disambiguator, but this rationale is mistaken. The term 'gens' is not disambiguation (the title doesn't make sense w/o it) and, for this reason, parentheses are now deprecated and aren't used anymore for this kind of article. The usual form now is (for example) *Pontia gens* and not *Pontia (gens)*. I just passed by to make sure you don't end up making the same mistake. Best regards. Avilich (talk) 19:57, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi Amakuru, I was just wondering if I could ask you to intervene in the discussion on Talk:Hema people (not so far from Rwanda)? I am aware that a two-party dispute on a little-watched page will often escalate pointlessly without some form of outside intervention. —Brigade Piron (talk) 10:09, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
As required before considering a Move Review, I contact you as the closer on this case[2] to ask these questions: How you determined the consensus on this case? In your closing comment it appears that you just counted the number of support? Have you ever evaluated the opposer Cold Season's argument? STSC (talk) 04:48, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- @STSC: thanks for your message, and to answer your question - yes, I did evaluate the arguments made as well as looking at the balance of the conversation. However, let's not pretend that numbers are altogether unimportant; when five people oppose something and only one is in support (disregarding for now the IP's proposal for a "shooting of..." title, which was challenged immediately on the grounds that the death was actually not caused by shooting), that's mostly a fairly clear sign that the consensus of the discussion is in favour of the five, not the one. On the specifics of this case, I would say two things: (1) WP:CONSENSUS talks about a process where editors "try to persuade others" of their argument. Clearly in this case Cold Season had a point of view, of which they tried to persuade others, but did not succeed. No other participant subscribed to that view. And (2) consensus is always assessed "while following Wikipedia policies". The argument was made in the discussion that death seems to be the more common search term, suggesting that the "death of..." name is a better fit per the WP:COMMONNAME policy, while the comment made further down that neutral term "death" rather than the loaded word "killing" invokes WP:POVTITLE, another policy, which seems legitimate in this case too, given the uncertainty over whether there was any intent to kill in this instance. Given the above considerations, I am satisfied that there was a true consensus to move the article in this discussion, and I'd be surprised if any other admin were to find differently. Thanks — Amakuru (talk) 15:04, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
- I don't agree to some of your reasoning based on your misinterpretation (or just misunderstanding) of the Wiki policies. I presume your input here would have been part of your closing comment. Thank you for your time. STSC (talk) 20:42, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

- @Gerda Arendt: many thanks, a fascinating trip down memory lane there, and a very happy 20th to you too! Actually, now you mention it I'll be nearing my 15th birthday as an editor soon - I guess this was my first ever edit, under my old account. Inspired by your example above, I decided to recreate the main page as it looked (more or less) when my first shiny FA slot occurred. See User:Amakuru/December 31, 2006. The pic that accompanied the TFA has now disappeared though. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 21:32, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Move review for Chinese whispers
Just to let you know, in a personalized form, that I notice and endorse your recent close of the Chinese whispers RM. I have read the RM and the MR and something irked me the wrong way about how both discussions unfolded: there was a lot of arguments thrown around for moving, as well as for endorsing the move, but on closer scrutiny they were rather shaky. I was tempted to close the MR myself in as similar way, but found no suitable wording to justify it, so I decided to leave that hot potato to someone else. Thank you for seeing through it and having the courage to actually close it against the apparent votecount (not that I counted). No such user (talk) 13:01, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- @No such user: thanks for the message, and I'm glad you concur with the closure. There's always a fine line between using administrator judgement and being accused of a supervote, particularly in something like move review, where editors are already opining on whether an administration issue was correct rather than the underlying question itself. Ultimately though, like yourself I just saw far too much hot air both in the original RM and in the MRV, but where policy and evidence were brought up at the MRV, they seemed to suggest rather strongly that the wrong outcome had taken place. Notwithstanding the raw numbers. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 16:50, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
