Isle of the Dead

You have clearly noticed that I have been working on the Isle of the Dead article. By any chance do you have any information on the game like its instruction manual? Been trying to get it to at least GA status but hitting a wall. GamerPro64 02:44, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi! :) Yes, I have notices your work on improving it, so thanks and good work! No, unfortunately I don't have anything like that. In case it helps, it looks like there is one more review for the game in German, in PC Joker per Mobygames: https://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/isle-of-the-dead/mobyrank BOZ (talk) 05:44, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Page move

I am requesting a history page move for obvious technical titular reasons: SP//dr to Peni Parker. Jhenderson 777 21:08, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

I tried to do the move, but it gave me an error message. You will probably have to file a request Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. BOZ (talk) 23:02, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
Is there some way an administrator is to fix the technical error either if the title is the title or redirection? It is the proper name but this shouldn’t be linked on the talk page. I know slashes should be avoided usually. But it’s part of the name this time around. Jhenderson 777 03:03, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
To be honest, that is beyond my technical knowledge. But it's probably as good of a reason as any to find someone who knows how to move the page. BOZ (talk) 12:23, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Userfication

Hey, I recently had my first article deleted. I'm trying to improve it so would you be able to provide me with a copy of the deleted article for use as a draft? Thanks, MLKinsella (talk) 10:32, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

Which article are you referring to? BOZ (talk) 12:11, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
Oh sorry, it was 'Buyagift'. Thanks MLKinsella (talk) 09:07, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
I undeleted the draft for you, but please do keep in mind the discussions on your user talk page, or someone else may delete it again. BOZ (talk) 15:27, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah I've been talking with a couple users who've been giving me advice. Thanks for your time MLKinsella (talk) 09:17, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Help in moving a Virtual Boy page

Hi man! Sorry if i haven't been able to help you a lot in the articles you've created but i'm still with the issue of not having internet on my household. I need help from you to move this article from Bound High! (video game) to Bound High!. Take care pal! Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:09, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Oh, wow! No worries, you can help out whenever you are able. :) You take care too! BOZ (talk) 15:23, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey there! Can you help me in renaming this page from this to this: List of cancelled Virtual Boy video games => List of cancelled Virtual Boy games? Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:05, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi BOZ. You protected this draft back in January because of IP disruption, The PP has run out and the IP (or IPs) is back at it again. Not sure if a new PP request is needed, but I'd thought I ask you first. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:14, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

Yep, I think so. Let's try a longer protection this time. BOZ (talk) 04:27, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
It's been in the AFC review queue. Do you think it's ready to publish or not really? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:50, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
I think it's still a work in progress. BOZ (talk) 18:36, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

SPA going after RPG creator

Hey! I wanted to bring this to your attention. Looks like we have a Single Purpose Account going after the Sean Patrick Fannon page. Dealt with them a little last year now they are back and put the page up for deletion. Looking into it a bit myself. Web Warlock (talk) 18:10, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Hahaha. So is there any way you can bring some order to this chaos?[1]. LamdaKnight is now making a claim that I am Sean. Thanks! Web Warlock (talk) 21:34, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
I know your real name, but I'm not going to out you.  :) I see on that FB thread that Jamie Chambers and Jess Heinig dared him to delete their Wiki bios... which, he went and did, just to prove a WP:POINT that he is not an SPA. :) Is this guy retaliating for the Zak Smith AFD like that FB thread seems to suggest? BOZ (talk) 21:39, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, that and he has a personal thing against Sean Patrick Fannon. Pretty much the definition of CoI I think. Web Warlock (talk) 21:43, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Frustrating that someone has created an account for the purpose of vandalizing wiki via spurious deletions. Ceronomus (talk) 14:25, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

The consensus was to not redirect. Please revert your edit. czar 05:02, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

The consensus was against redirecting the existing content and edit history to another article (rather than deleting those), but there was no comment on whether we should not have a free-standing redirect at all (at least, I am not aware that AFD as a process can mandate that no redirect should ever exist when the non-notable content has been deleted). But if you feel strongly that I am interpreting this idea incorrectly in this case, I will delete the redirect until I can come up with a better idea of how to implement such a redirect. BOZ (talk) 05:17, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

Notability of your creations

Hi, it looks as if too many of your article creations are for subjects with extremely limited notability. I have redirected a few and nomineted two for deletion, but it seems that there are many other similar ones. A review (certainly a capsule review) in Space Gamer is not sufficient to establish notability at all (and in some cases wasn't even an independent source, reveiwing stuff from their own company), and in many cases no other indepth sources fo some reliability could be found (e.g. for The Journal of Tékumel Affairs there is a passing mention in the 1984 "Fantasy Review", a fanzine, and then some mentions on game fora and wikis). Please don't create further articles on such things unless there are much better sources. Fram (talk) 14:54, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

Fair enough, I will take an extended break from working with The Space Gamer. BOZ (talk) 17:36, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

vandalism by an admin?

seems | an admin may be | vandalizing articles as the redirects made from existing articles left other articles pointing to | limbo with no reasoning or fixing other pages? and no votes or anything from the wikipedia community itself. shadzar-talk 04:02, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Well, in my experience with that user, they are pretty strict on the notability guidelines. Also in my experience in general, there are often more people who will support a delete/redirect/merge of a fictional character or element where independent sourcing is thin or non-existent in the article, than people who are willing to support that it be kept as an article. Not saying they are right, just that they are common. You can try restoring the articles if you want, but I would expect a good likelihood that they will be taken to AFD, and that unless people can come up with better sourcing, the result will not be good. Sad, but that seems to be the way the community works nowadays. That said, if you have anything halfway decent to act as a source, I say restore and add it, and then see what happens. BOZ (talk) 11:34, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
sadly i have nothing to add, just disheartened when i went to look up this controversial character only to have its information recently removed except for in the history. not the first article to be "attacked" recently because of a controversy around it subject matter. shadzar-talk 03:57, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
I know the feeling, believe me. Talos the Untamed was recently forced into a merge even though he was a major character in a film about to be released. :( Still, I believe that characters like that will eventually be shown to be notable and will need to be split back out, we just have to find proof to silence the naysayers. BOZ (talk) 11:25, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Hey BOZ,

If you have time, would you mind to add some comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/The Infinity Gauntlet/archive2? The nomination is in danger of stalling, and I don't really want to go through the process a third time. Thanks, Argento Surfer (talk) 19:08, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Oh wow, did not know it closed incomplete last time. I'm not sure that I would have much more to add of substance, other than to give moral support like last time. Didn't help then either. But, I would love to see it, especially given that Endgame part 2 will be in theaters in the very near future! :) BOZ (talk) 23:05, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Diligence

Thank you for all your service to WP:APPLE. I meant to include you in the recent mass messaging but here it is. So please check my new Welcome message and see what you think, and let me know if you think there should be an Apple II task force. I don't know what other active admins we have in WP:APPLE, but that would be gr8. I also invited Dgpop, and I'm super esteemed in your collaboration with him as per his Talk page. We definitely need an Apple II barnstar! — Smuckola(talk) 09:01, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Hey, thank you, no problem! :) I'm happy to help out where I can! I am on a bit of a sabbatical from working on Space Gamer, where the majority of my work with old Apple games is coming from, but I hope to be back on that before long! BOZ (talk) 11:31, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Help in renaming image files, articles and categories

Hi! Sorry for bothering you about this subject once again but I need your help, as i don't have the ability to rename files: File:NEOGEO Fatal Fury - King of Fighters (Garō Densetsu Shukumei no Tatakai).png => NEOGEO Fatal Fury - King of Fighters (Garō Densetsu - Shukumei no Tatakai)

No problem, how was that? :) I don't mind, but if you could help me out with sourcing on those Japanese games, I would appreciate it! I will try to pick out a few more today, but I am going to be busy for a bit fixing NGen on all those templates. BOZ (talk) 15:24, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ: Thanks man! I need more from you and this time is about renaming these categories:
  • Category:MidNite Entertainment Group games => Category:MidNite Software games
  • Category:Games published by Bossa Studios => Category:Bossa Studios games
  • Category:Software Creations (UK) games => Category:Software Creations games
Thanks as always and i'll make sure to check you the titles you've listed me ;) Roberth Martinez (talk) 04:44, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
Sounds good, I hope I did that right! I'm a little less certain on how moving categories works. BOZ (talk) 11:48, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks like always man! Here's a suggestion: Can you try to convert this into a full article? I'll try to find references for it...List of Sailor Moon video games#Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon (arcade game) 1995 (the Sailor Moon arcade title) Roberth Martinez (talk) 06:45, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
If I can find anything, I will add it! BOZ (talk) 12:47, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Done! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Soldier_Sailor_Moon_(arcade_game) Roberth Martinez (talk) 18:23, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ: I got you two files that you need to rename man ;) : File:Lynx BattleWheels.png => LYNX BattleWheels.png & File:Lynx Gates of Zendocon.png => LYNX Gates of Zendocon.png Roberth Martinez (talk) 20:28, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ: I got you one file to rename: File:SNES Magical Pop'n.png => File:SFC Magical Pop'n.png Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:51, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
You got it! Got anything more for me at User talk:KGRAMR#Japanese games? :) If you have looked at all of them, I can find more. BOZ (talk) 13:32, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:I'll try to catch up with the stuff you listed me soon enough! Here's another one: File:ARC Grind Stormer.png => File:ARC Grind Stormer (V-V).png Roberth Martinez (talk) 03:40, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hi! I hope you're doing well. I got you another file that needs to be renamed: File:NEOGEO Matrimelee (Shin Gōketsuji Ichizoku Tōkon, -Matrimelee-).png => File:NEOGEO Matrimelee (Shin Gōketsuji Ichizoku Tōkon -Matrimelee-).png Roberth Martinez (talk) 03:04, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
I wasn't able to move it to that exact name. BOZ (talk) 03:28, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Try with this one then: File:NEOGEO Matrimelee (Shin Gōketsuji Ichizoku Tōkon, -Matrimelee-).png => File:NEOGEO Matrimelee (Shin Gōketsuji Ichizoku Tōkon - Matrimelee).png Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:40, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey man! How are you doing? Hey, can you help me in renaming this article i resurrected from the grave? Andro Dunos (video game) => Andro Dunos Roberth Martinez (talk) 22:25, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
No problem, I even merged the edit histories in case there is anything there from the prior version that you can use. BOZ (talk) 23:51, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Awesome! I'll get to the other Japanse games you listed on my talk page, in the meantime, help me in renaming this article from Ganryu (video game) to Ganryu.Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:40, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
You might want to start a discussion on that one, actually, because Ganryu might be better as a disambiguation page? There is the Tekken character, the swordsman that the redirect currently points to, and the video game, and also the island Ganryū-jima and probably other things. BOZ (talk) 03:15, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Oh OK, leave it just like that. Then, how about connecting the Spanish and French pages of the game? https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganryu_(Neo-Geo) & https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganryu_(jeu_vid%C3%A9o) Roberth Martinez (talk) 17:57, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Also, rename the title of the article from Ganryu (Neo Geo game) => Ganryu (video game) Roberth Martinez (talk) 18:02, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
Fixed! BOZ (talk) 19:13, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:You have one more thing left to do my friend ;): rename the title of the article from Ganryu (Neo Geo game) => Ganryu (video game) and it'll be pretty much done :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:35, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey! How're you doing today? I got another file to rename for you :) Windows Skull Caps.png => WIN Skull Caps.png Roberth Martinez (talk) 05:35, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey man! How're you doing? I'll check the remaining Japanese game articles you listed me, as I've busy with other stuff on the website. Here are three image files that need to be renamed: ARC Truxton => ARC Truxton (Tatsujin), ARC Truxton II => ARC Truxton II (Tatsujin Oh) and ARC Kingdom Grand Prix => ARC Kingdom Grand Prix (Shippū Mahō Daisakusen Kingdom-Grandprix). Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:16, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey pal! How's been going? Here is one file that needs to be renamed: NEOGEO Super Sidekicks (Tokuten Oh) => NEOGEO Super Sidekicks (Tokuten Ou).Roberth Martinez (talk) 14:48, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Here's yet another one for today: NEOGEO Matrimelee (Shin Gōketsuji Ichizoku Tōkon - Matrimelee) => NEOGEO Matrimelee (Shin Gōketsuji Ichizoku Tōkon -Matrimelee-).Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:56, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Sorry for bothering you about this again but this file's name should be spelled like this: NEOGEO Matrimelee (Shin Gōketsuji Ichizoku Tōkon -Matrimelee-) => NEOGEO Matrimelee (Shin Gōketsuji Ichizoku: Tōkon -Matrimelee-). Is there any way to gain rights to move image files...?Roberth Martinez (talk) 07:14, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
It's not letting me make that move. Apparently admins can grant that ability to users. ;) BOZ (talk) 11:05, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:I saw the message that poppep up on my feed. Thanks man for helping me in this subject! I owe you a lot... Roberth Martinez (talk) 11:07, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey man! This is not a file but rather a name (Dogyuun(!!)) that needs to be linked into this article: Dogyuun. Roberth Martinez (talk) 22:28, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean? BOZ (talk) 05:40, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:If you can link this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dogyuun(!!)&redirect=no) to this one (Dogyuun). Just like how you did with Andro Dunos and Ganryu :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 02:27, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
You mean just change the redirect? Any logged in user can do that if it's not full protected. :) BOZ (talk) 12:40, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
@BOZ:Hey! I need help from you pal. Can you rename this category from this (Category:Cancelled Sharp X6800 games) to this (Category:Cancelled Sharp X68000 games). I did a major screw up when creating it... Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:56, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

@BOZ:Hey man! Can you try to revive this article: Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon S (3DO game)? Somebody merged it with the Sailor Moon game list, which shouldn've been done in the first place... Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:46, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

@KGRAMR: Sure thing, there you go. I would highly recommend adding sources to it, since it looks like the other user merged it due to notability concerns. You might want to discuss with them if you want time to work on it. BOZ (talk) 03:10, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

Requesting your opinion

Hi. A conflict has arisen on the Adam Hughes article. Can you offer your opinion in this discussion? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 21:34, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

BOZ, the matter described above has devolved somewhat. The other editor, 70.112.229.80, has now taken to blanking most of the disputed paragraph in section. Since editors who favor controversial edits are expected to be the ones to begin discussions on them on talk pages, I reverted this, but he then reverted my revert, calling a subsequent edit of mine "vandalism".
On the Adam Hughes talk page, he accused me of "plagiarism" with regard to a paragraph in the Adam Hughes article on a poster Hughes illustrated, and this discussion continued on my talk page. I presented him with several sources that clearly defined plagiarism to be something that was nowhere near anything I had done, but he continues to make the accusation on both talk pages. I started a consensus discussion on one the problems that he has with one of the paragraph's claims (which I invited you to above), but he has now started another discussion requesting that I be blocked for "owning" the page. He has also accused me of "lying" about something he said in an edit summary back in January, when in fact, it was simply an error on my part that I've since acknowledged. He is now also calling for me to be blocked in the first Adam Hughes tp discussion as well.
Your assistance would be appreciated, with the issue of the paragraph blanking, the sourcing issue, and his violations of WP:CIV. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 00:21, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for participating in the discussion on the "blocking" issue. But now he's blanking most of the paragraph entirely, for reasons that as I've described above, are specious. Do you think that warrants a revert by you? Or should I start a second discussion on that? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 16:19, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
A content dispute would probably be better served by a wider discussion. BOZ (talk) 16:57, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

You are invited to join the discussion regarding the split of Lois Lane to Lois Lane in other media. There might be edit conflict on it. Jhenderson 777 13:16, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
You've been at it for years, but your enthusiasm for creating and sourcing Wikipedia's video game articles never seems to wane! This barnstar is dedicated particularly to your work with Next Generation—your efforts to add every single review the magazine ever gave to its corresponding Wikipedia article, even when that means creating the article from scratch, is inspiring. I know it's inspired me. Thanks for your tireless contributions! JimmyBlackwing (talk) 05:15, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you JimmyBlackwing, I am honored! :) And, I will say, to turn it back to you, I was originally inspired to start this project of doing the Next Generation reviews because I saw you had added some of them to articles I was watching, so you inspired me as well. :) I looked at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library/Next Generation Magazine page and saw how many redlinks there were under the Game Reviews column (notice there are far fewer such redlinks and bad links now), and how many of the articles had few or no sources or reviews, and I said to myself that we can do better than this. The stubby articles I create may not start off very impressive, but we have to start somewhere don't we? Look at Doctor Hauzer and Burning Soldier as examples of where my stubs and restored articles can go if the right person takes notice! I think I am more than halfway done with the NG page, and there are a bunch of other magazine pages to go through after that, so we will see how long my stamina holds up. ;) BOZ (talk) 05:33, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

  • Thank you! And I can't wait to watch your NG project continue—the idea that all of its reviews could eventually be sources is insane to me. If this ultimately bleeds into other magazines, that will be amazing. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 05:39, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
Doing my best to make that a reality! :) As daunting as it is, I was considering moving on to CGW next, or possibly in the not too distant future - it may take a couple of years or more to get through it, but that is worth it. :) BOZ (talk) 06:21, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

Infobox D&D deity

Just letting you know that the amount of links {{Infobox D&D deity}} had was very small, and I'm pretty sure there were much more when I nominated it. Whatever links were left I added the race and series as you've asked (except for D&D as I couldn't be really sure that all links were actually for that), but I have no idea if whoever did the rest did the same. --Gonnym (talk) 12:30, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for taking care of that! BOZ (talk) 20:27, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

Maniac games:

Maniac is a German gaming mag started in like 93, and they're still around so they decided to upload all their old game reviews to their site under the Klassic Test section. They upload about two per day, and timeline-wise they're up to reviews from 1998. Very valuable resource, as its very easy to access, and they reviewed many games, including obscurities that no modern publication would talk about. They have reviews for obscure systems like Jaguar CD, 3DO, CDi.

Also, some games like Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures only came out in Japan and Europe, meaning there's no American coverage at all. And German is super easy to translate to English. Harizotoh9 (talk) 16:57, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

Awesome, thanks for letting me know! Keep up the good work. BOZ (talk) 17:24, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

Help with iron Man's Armor deletion

Hey I need your help. It has been suggested that Iron Man's Armor to be deleted and I need your help to prevent that from happening. I'm planning to use Iron Man Armor on Marvel Database, a Marvel Comics wiki to get the citation needed to save the article. I really need your help to prevent this from dying, please I really need you.Penguin7812 (talk) 19:38, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

Deleted redirects response

Restoring some of the content would be good as they were purged by @Namenamenamenamename: due to how minor some of them are. Especially those who appeared in TV, film, and video games like Kraglin, Karla Faye Gideon, Father Lantom (who was redirected to the page detailing about the characters that appeared in the TV series Daredevil), both versions of Baron Samedi (with the Loa version not being listed prior to the minor character purging), and anyone else I left out while I had to establish a page for Rick Stoner due to him being notable as the first known director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Those that appeared in The Punisher I was able to redirect to the List of Punisher supporting characters page. --Rtkat3 (talk) 14:10, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi. The building manager redirect to building management is shown to be in all caps because of how it's creator made it. Is there a way for you to retitle it to not being in caps as a favor that I ask of you? --Rtkat3 (talk) 15:54, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi there,

Not trying to give you a hard time at the Dream Pod 9 AfD. It's just that the boldtext !vote should only come from a person once. You can always add more comments, or even strike a previous !vote to add a new one -- the only thing that's kind of a no-no is repeating a bold !vote. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 22:41, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

Oh, no problem, I will remove that part. BOZ (talk) 22:44, 17 July 2019 (UTC)

Warning issued was mistake

Hey, I was just issued a warning from WP:Peachy saying I shouldn't have removed the AfD template on Dream Pod 9. It was removed from when I closed the discussion, but when it was relisted after a DRV discussion, I was warned, though this is a mistake. Are you able to assist with clearing it?

If I am mistaken, and there is a reason that this warning was issued, please correct me. ––Redditaddict69 (talk) (contribs) 03:12, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

I removed it since it was just a bot warning that was likely mistakenly triggered. BOZ (talk) 03:56, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Help at Lex Luthor

Do you mind helping solve a debate / edit war in Lex Luthor. Thank you! Jhenderson 777 16:16, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Hello

I apologize for the trouble, but as I said to the other moderator, I am actually not attempting to change anything, I have only restored the Wikipedia page in support of existing reference citations. The other individual is attempting a radical edit, based on nothing, that is in direct contravention of every single comic book authority- Overstreet, CGC, CBCS, and of course DC comics itself. Which is why the other individual is unable to produce any citation other than something from some guy's site called "mikesamazingworld", which itself, when you click the magnifying glass (the way the other individual suggest I do) specifically states in a disclaimer in the pop up that "publication dates are NOT release dates" (I also notice that Action Comics 23 has a copyright number that is also earlier than Superman 4, further undermining the edit the other individual is attempting to make).

Given that the other individual is attempting to edit 80 years of existing DC canon on Wikipedia with absolutely no citation to support anything close to the content of his attempted to edit, I would hope that the moderators take note that I am not the one who is attempting to "change" anything to advance some odd agenda. I'm simply trying to keep the information consistent with the relevant citations and established comic book canon.

Thank for reaching out.

Regards,

It would have helped if you actually talked about it and also not assumed bad faith IMO.Jhenderson 777 19:14, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
Fair enough. The two of you, and anyone else involved, should come to an agreement on the article's talk page with how to proceed. Thank you. BOZ (talk) 19:18, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
Hopefully but how can you reason with somebody who claims I have an agenda. Hopefully he would just talk. Jhenderson 777 19:25, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Redemption (card game)

Hey Boz, I saw your edit on Redemption and I see a "Legend of the Five Rings" quote on there. Is that a mistake? Leitmotiv (talk) 01:44, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

Probably! I will check it out. BOZ (talk) 03:02, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

Knull etc.

I get that the Penguin user was a sock puppet and everything. But I don’t approve of deleting his material like Knull (comics) etc. Can you possibly bring some of his good faith material back?Jhenderson 777 03:05, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, that's what happens when you get caught socking... they try to WP:DENY everything you did as much as possible... Well, if you have some specifics that you want me to look at, let me know. I'm not going to restore everything he did, but I will take a look at a few good cases and see if there is something we can still use in good faith. BOZ (talk) 04:38, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I mostly mean articles he started like Knull (comics) and Absolute Carnage. I kind of want the history back. Jhenderson 777 05:42, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Checking the deletion history. He created other few articles and image files. Jhenderson 777 05:48, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
I'm not entirely clear what the ethics are on undeleting that many revisions from a banned user, but you might want to see what they are willing to do at WP:REFUND. If they don't want to undelete those two articles, I will copy and paste the last available versions as a sort of redo from scratch (assuming that is even OK). BOZ (talk) 12:02, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Greetings, I need help with this article, please. Do you know someone else to improve this article? F. E. Puricelli (talk) 01:26, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

An Observation

I have to say, I don't think I've ever seen someone manage to be derisive to both sides of an argument at the same time, quite as well as this.Vulcan's Forge (talk) 22:23, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

Ha! Right, I did see that. I wonder where those ideas against "several"(?) people are coming from... but without naming names, there's not quite enough there for an actual accusation. Still, without evidence, it is not exactly a show of good faith. BOZ (talk) 01:10, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

Heroic Worlds

Hello dear BOZ! In the ongoing deletion discussion about the AD&D 2nd edition monster list the question about the independent/non-independent nature of Lawrence Schick's Heroic Worlds was raised now. Do you have insight in this, could you perhaps help out here? Unfortunately I cannot say at the moment, having quoted from the Monstrous Compendium article (not very scientific, not going to the original source myself, but the deletion discussion pressed for time). Thanks a lot for any input! Daranios (talk) 17:10, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

I did not see anyone questioning the independence of that book, but it would not surprise me if they did. The "notability police" are always working hard to do their job to delete topics that they do not want to see on Wikipedia, so they must attack everything that other people bring up if they want to get that delete. For my part, the book was published by an independent publisher, so I do not see an issue there. BOZ (talk) 18:03, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

Template Help

The template for the List of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition monsters appears to have been broken by a merge nomination. I'm not in a position to fix it right now, can you help?Vulcan's Forge (talk) 17:17, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Hey Vulcan's Forge, the template is not broken yet, it looks like it's just being discussed for a merger. BOZ (talk) 18:07, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
Not displaying properly for me (via Firefox); all of the tables at the bottom of the page are broken/empty.Vulcan's Forge (talk) 18:25, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
Not sure why that is, could be the warning template? BOZ (talk) 18:30, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
I know what it is; it's the template size with the "merge message". I thought the table broke on the Al-mi'raj entry in MC14, but when I tried editing it the table wouldn't render completely and the Wiki editing software gave me a warning on the preview display. There's likely no way of resolving that until the Template merge discussion closes. I'd ask the originator to close it early but judging by the snotty response I got to my Oppose vote I suspect I'd be wasting my time.Vulcan's Forge (talk) 17:06, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, I figured it had something to do with the TFD warning. BOZ (talk) 18:40, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Questions regarding citing an email

I'm working on making a page for The Surgeon, a 1985 Macintosh game with scarce information online, but found the creator of the game online (still has a stong online presence) and emailed him asking several important questions regarding the game. He responded with some really valuable insight into the game and its development, but I don't know how to cite this. I'm asking you because of your work on old Macintosh games and you seem friendly and seem like you would know the best way to handle this. I don't know if this would fall into the realm of 'original research' but I feel there's a difference between someone typing up a bunch of uncited stuff based on what they know and contacting the developer of a game for more information. Asking him to publish his response in an official capacity on his website or on his Twitter seems like overstepping some bounds, as he's active in work regarding engineering and asking him to publish information regarding a game he wrote 34 years ago seems rude. I was thinking maybe asking him if it's okay to put a transcript of the emails on archive.org, but anyone could fake that, yknow? Do you know the best way to cite this? Waxworker (talk) 20:20, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for asking, but to be honest I do not quite have an answer for you. Since it was personal correspondence rather than something published somewhere that other people can access, I am dubious that it can be used at all. One place to ask might be WP:RS/N, the reliable sources noticeboard. BOZ (talk) 20:36, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

In general

Re: merge idea and others. I am quite fond of soft delete per WP:PERSERVE, and merges are good too except sometimes they are pointless (merging bad content into bad article that will get deleted later is a waste of time).--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:13, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

I am also quite fond of WP:PRESERVE, and WP:ATD, which is why I almost always propose a merge during an AFD. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on what is "bad" content and what will and will not get deleted later, and what might be a "waste of time". BOZ (talk) 05:15, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

Corellon Larethian (Dungeons & Dragons) draft

Hi @Boz:, I wrote a new article for Corellon Larethian here. There is currently a redirect for Corellon Larethian to List of Elf deities (until that list article is deleted). So I want to move my draft into main space and then delete the redirect, right? I think that may be beyond my ability--any chance when you have time that you could do this? A general question, I have provisional 'new page patroller' rights. Is it frowned upon to review a page that you have authored? AugusteBlanqui (talk) 13:25, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

If you do move it, please feel free to name the article whatever you think is most appropriate. I added "(Dungeons & Dragons)" but it doesn't need to be there if you can sort out redirects. AugusteBlanqui (talk) 14:19, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
Good work! I will take a look it later today and see what I can do with it. I should be able to move it without issue. I'm not sure what the protocols are regarding NPP on your own articles. If there are any deleted articles you need to work on, I can move them into draft space too. BOZ (talk) 15:22, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks @BOZ:, I have done uncomplicated moves in the past (completed articles from student sandboxes to main space) but if you move Corellon (absolutely no rush) then I'd appreciate it! AugusteBlanqui (talk) 16:34, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for all that moving and restoration work @BOZ:! I have moved the LGBTQ/gender and sex fluidity back to the lead because this is, I suspect, key to countering any claim that WP:GNG is unsatisfied. I look at some Wikiproject Fictional Character articles and I think it is also better if the lead is a blend of in-universe/out-of-universe content. There have been so many deletions lately of articles could easily have been retained and improved. Could you point me to a link that states a WP:Before is not needed when nominating for deletion? I'm still trying to get my head around the process. AugusteBlanqui (talk) 11:09, 15 December 2019 (UTC) PS, I ask out of academic curiosity. My brief foray into AfD has been an interesting experience and I may write it up at some point.
My understanding about WP:BEFORE is that a person is expected to follow this, but there is no realistic way to enforce it as a policy as to whether they have done it or not (unless they admit that they did not follow it). So, an editor can go around making half a dozen AFD nominations per day without following WP:BEFORE if they want to, under the assumption that they wouldn't find anything anyway, and it really won't harm that editor at all, so they have the right to be lazy like that if they want to since it is a lot easier to try to delete an article than it is to try to improve it. :) BOZ (talk) 14:01, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well B. MarnetteD|Talk 17:33, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
