Duplicate images uploaded[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fiustadium08.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Fiustadium.jpg. WP:EL[edit]

Please read Wikipedia:External links. In particular, there are passages which state things along the line of

"Links should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links, or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links."
"Avoid links to... Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject: the link should be directly related to the subject of the article. A general site that has information about a variety of subjects should usually not be linked to from an article on a more specific subject. Similarly, a website on a specific subject should usually not be linked to an article about a general subject. If a section of a general website is devoted to the subject of the article, and meets the other criteria for linking, then that part of the site could be deep-linked."

For example, you don't need to link to the newspaper's website from Florida International University, but you should probably do so from its article (The Beacon). License tagging for Image:Harold Crosby.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Harold Crosby.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Florida Memory Project[edit]

Images from the Florida Memory project are not as a group suitably-licensed for use on Wikipedia. As the website's copyright disclaimer says, "Some of the images may be protected by copyright. The user must assume any and all responsibility for obtaining appropriate permission for use or assurance of adherence to copyright restriction." List of museums in the United States[edit]

I'm sorry that I called your edit pointless. That was unnecessary for me to say.

Fort Lauderdale is a different city than Miami, so they should not be in the same section. A similar situation has arisen at least a couple other places on this page. Look at Minneapolis & Saint Paul in Minnesota. If there are an adequate number of museums from both "twin" cities, then we have combined them into one section like that.

The problem here is that in order for a city to have its own section, it must have 5 or more museums (See the rules on the talk page.). Fort Lauderdale does not have 5 or more entries on this page so we can't give it separate recognition yet. It must remain in the "Elsewhere" section until there are 5 or more museums listed - then it may be moved into a conglomerate section like you're trying to do. You may research and add more museums from this city if you would like.

It has been an unsaid rule of thumb to always shorten the name of universities in this form:

(museum name) at (ABC)

Where ABC is the shortest version of the school's name. This is to reduce clutter on the page. I have added this to the general rules/guidelines on Talk:List of museums in the United States.

If you disagree with anything I have said, please post a comment on Talk:List of museums in the United States so several of us can work together and come to a civil solution and to avoid "name-calling". I am going to undo your edit again. Miami, Florida[edit]

I reverted your changes to Miami 1) to eliminate the vandalism that was entered right before your edits and 2) because most of the companies you added are not headquartered in Miami. Try to limit your additions to Dade County, at most, since Fort Lauderdale and Broward County are a separate Metropolitan Division within the MSA. Problems with Emporis[edit]

Yeah, you probably noticed their erroneous information listed for Carbonell Condominium... I usually try to use SkyscraperPage for dates, but if that site too seems incorrect, do you think it would be better to simply leave some date entries blank? There is, after all, a note stating Table entries without text indicates that information regarding building height has not yet been released. Confused as to where downtown ends / midtown begins[edit]

I figured I would ask you if you know of a source that tells where the division is between Downtown Miami and Midtown Miami. Or is there a transitional space in between - (Omni area)? The only thing I could find online about midtown is the development that's supposed to be built in the old railyard (only 55 acres) inside Miami / SE 2nd Avenues and 36th / 29th Streets. I live in the Grand (behind the Omni) and everyone tells me I live in downtown Miami. The Opera Tower is literally a hundred feet from my front door and my realtor at The Grand & Assocs. swears up and down that the Opera Tower, 1800 Club and Quantum are all downtown properties. I was told that midtown isn't until north of 20th St. I couldn't find anything at all on the web, aside from commercial realtor sites that don't really say anything. The city of Miami site doesn't claim a 'Midtown' in any of its neighborhoods either. --> here. It seems that the downtown/midtown distinction may be subjective. Coconut Grove[edit]

Comayagua99 - I see on 5/16/08 you added "Downtown", "Brickell", and "Midtown" to the "See Also" section in the Coconut Grove article. Can you tell me why you did this? I don't see much of a relationship between these places. Brickell is contiguous to the Grove - but Midtown ? Re:Emporis/SSP[edit]

I definitely see what you mean about Emporis and SkyscraperPage often "getting their facts wrong"; it is an issue I have faced at several points :-) And in the case of The Ivy, it may very well be no longer under construction. However, in order for this to be stated in List of tallest buildings in Miami, there needs to be a verifiable and reliable reference stating that the building is no longer under construction, to "counter" the Emporis and SkyscraperPage refs. You may be interested in the long discussion at Talk:Burj Dubai regarding updating outdated information; the consensus there was that even if the building was obviously higher than the outdated official reports from Emaar stated it was, a reference from a reliable source was still needed before the information in the article could be altered. Ransom-Everglades[edit]

Dear Comayagua99 - I can see by your edits you are interested in the geography of Dade County. Let me tell you a little history. Have a look at this map: [[1]] This shows our county at about the time the school was founded. Of the settlements designated then only three remain today: Hypoluxo, Miami, and Coconut Grove. The school was founded in 1893 as Pine Knot Camp. In 1895, one year before the city of Miami was incorporated, Coconut Grove had the only hotel between Palm Beach and Key West and the first swimming pool and tennis courts in the area; at this time there were about six people in the settlement called Miami. In 1919 the town of Coconut Grove was incorporated. In 1925, fearful that Coral Gables would outgrow it, Miami underhandedly engulfed Coconut Grove, Silver Bluff, and several other neighborhoods. Trivia: streets in the Grove are named the opposite to those in Miami; thus "Grand Avenue" and "Virginia Street". So, although Coconut Grove is legally a part of Miami, we Grovites fiercely defend our separate identity; continue to improve other Wiki areas but please leave Ransom Everglades alone. --GroveGuy (talk) 01:27, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comayagua99 - On my talk page you said that "Coconut Grove, Florida" does not exist. "Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida" however, does. You are WRONG. Go to the post office website: http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp and look up Ransom-Everglades' address: "3575 Main Highway" city:"Coconut Grove" state:"FL". Comayagua99 - This dispute with you is fun. Your citing the City of Miami's NET map bolsters my viewpoint. This is just a map of administrative areas. This means that the Ransom-Everglades page should say "North/East Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida." Try sending some mail to an address in Flagami or Downtown ! Thank you. If you look at my history, I've been a member for a long time and I've contributed a lot to the website. It wasn't until recently, Miamiboyzinhere began to create usernames similar to mine to make me a victim. The problem is that the way you phrased things will make people think that "The Hammocks" is a part of Miami. It isn't. It is a separate unincorporated community in Miami-Dade County. Whenever the location is first described in the lead, because the Hammocks is an unincorporated area, the lead must state "unincorporated Miami-Dade County" - Saying it is in "Miami, Florida" should be reserved for articles about places clearly within the city limits. Saying it is a "Miami suburb" is ambiguous because there are often suburban areas within the limits of large cities.

FIU Architecture Admissions[edit]

I would just like to determine why you rolled back the changes I made to the graduate architecture admissions paragraph. I used the excel sheet located here. I used the "IV Admissions" page in the document. Under the "2009-2010" column I added up the numbers from each major in the grad I : applied row as the as the applications received. I then used admitted row as the number for the accepted students. I believed this to be correct, but if I am mistaken let me know. Hey! No, the source is good, I shouldn't have undone your edit, just maybe edited it. Because, the admissions data should include the numbers for 'Lower' just because the way the FIU Architecture has their majors set up, is that the Master of Architecture program starts the freshmen year, (they don't offer the bachelors anymore) which would be listed in this source as 'Lower'. The problem is it's kind of in a gray area, because it's both undergraduate and graduate at the same time. Metromover ridership doubling[edit]

Back in the 90s, were the hours of operation the same as they are now? It is considered to run from 5am to 12pm, but in reality it starts a little early and runs at least until 12:30, often times even on non event nights. And as it approaches closing, there is still a good amount of people on it, meaning the demand is there for it to run longer, possibly all night. And if it did that, more people would ride it because they could depend on it if they went out at night, for example, and wouldn't be going home until the early morning hours. Miami grid[edit]

The link was helpful, but just reiterated my point: direction on the Miami grid is based north/south streets and east/west avenues, where the road intersections define "NW", "SW", "SE", and "NE", which is why North Miami Avenue and South Miami Avenue are both "Miami Avenue" and East Flagler and West Flagler are both "Flagler Street". You are correct, however, streets in Miami are labeled according to their quadrant which are NW, NE, SW and SE. Road signs do not say North 20th Street, they say NW 20th Street.^[1]

The university's official media guide dictates the university be referred to as "FIU" as I cited here: FIU Athletics. Additionally, the local media, community and students refer to the university only as "FIU". I sent you a couple examples of that on your page. I believe these are strong arguments for keeping it as "FIU" instead of changing these pages for the sake of it "being less descriptive". Again, this means the discussion is more about reverting a previous move which requires less of a consensus. So again, the discussion does not support. Your appeals here are based on ignoring WP:OFFICIAL and adding WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, not strong arguments. Florida cultural events[edit]

Hi Comayagua99,

I now live in Saint Augustine, Florida, and plan to work with cultural heritage organizations and institutions in the area. I'm reaching out to you because you edit loads of articles about FL and you live in Florida. It would be great to have someone helping from the southern part of the state.

Do you have any interest in doing either outreach to cultural heritage organizations in FL or on wiki assistance to new editors from this sector.

In particular, I want to get the ball rolling planning Florida events related to Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 that will happen in September 2012. This years focus in the US is images of places on the National Register of Historic Places. While living in Kentucky, my husband and I took and uploaded images of places on the NRHP so I have a general idea of the process. I'm most interested in finding the gaps in coverage of historical sites in FL, and figuring out the best way to get these covered with local events. Maybe road trips to get some images in the outlying areas. We have a good amount of lead time so I think that this is doable.

Additionally, I plan to work with the Saint Augustine 450 Commemoration (a four year initiative to celebrate the founding of Saint Augustine and settlement of FL through educational and legacy projects) to see how that we can add value to their current events, and possibly plan some joint initiatives.

I'm also working with User:LoriLee, the U.S. Cultural Partnerships Coordinator for the Wikimedia Foundation, to create an listing of cultural organizations and institutions in the United States, and WMF volunteers interested in working with these organizations. The beginning stages of it are at Wikipedia:GLAM/US/Connect. We also plan to have State specific pages that link to the Wikiproject for each state.

I've looked in several books and the only number I can come up with is 25 people in 1895: Allan Parrish. That number comes from the 1890 Census. I too was also looking for a 1890 figure and decided to just go straight to the census. You made me do ALL THAT WORK to get seven numbers? It looks to me as though 364 is not a useful number. That is the population of "the Miami precinct". I would guess the Miami precinct (364) and the Elliott Key precinct (105) together add up to what is today's Miami-Dade county with the other three precincts being in Broward and Palm Beach counties. Figuring out how many of these people lived within the boundaries of the current day city of Miami would be guessing or "original research". Hey, you asked where it came from. In 1890, the only inhabitable area in Miami would have been the settlement around the river, which would fall within the current city limits. The Miami precinct would have been this area. In 1890 few people lived at the mouth of the river. There was the Brickell family on the south side and some squatters on the north side. There were two groupings of people at Coconut Grove and Lemon City; otherwise, people were scattered all over in 160 acre homesteads. Hey, Comayagua99. I have no idea where you pulled some of the figures from in your recent edits, but a spot check seems to support the previous figures matching the source that's cited (a 29MB pdf file, no less—grrr). Suggestion: if you're changing a sourced number in an article, please explain why you're changing it and what source(s) you're relying on. You can do that in your edit summaries or on the talk page if you need more space. I see you've been editing Wikipedia for years now, and I'm sure you have good reasons for these edits, but even the psychics among us may find it hard to figure out what you're doing and why if you don't say. Miami on Wikivoyage[edit]

Hi, I've been looking for an expert on Miami for help with figuring out Wikivoyage's travel districts for the city.

We need to divide the city into districts, each of which should be able to serve as a good, fully-fleshed travel article, and there shouldn't be too many of them (to avoid spreading the content across too many articles). Essentially the question is of how to group neighborhoods. The discussion is at voy:Talk:Miami#Districts, and some good examples of how cities should be divided up are at voy:Chicago#Districts and voy:Washington, D.C.#Districts.

North American English regional phonology[edit]

Hello, Comayagua99. You recently edited North American English regional phonology, adding two URLs as references. Both of those articles are already cited in the paragraph to which you added them. I removed the duplicates using the 'rollback' feature, since they couldn't be removed using 'undo' due to technical limitations. As a result, the more specific list of cities in south Florida was rolled back to Miami metropolitan area.

Comayagua, I just noticed that you moved the "Michael Muñoz" article to the new page "Michael Múñoz," the difference being the accented "u" in the first syllable of the subject's surname. Muñoz himself spells his last name with the tilde on the "n," but not the accent on the "u":

This is just one of a number of page moves that you have made -- without discussion -- to add diacriticals to names of Spanish origin. In most (if not all) of these instances, these people do not use the diacriticals in their names. The correct Spanish spelling of a particular name is not necessarily the right way to spell a particular person's name. Your page moves are disruptive. Comayagua99, perhaps you might enjoy exploring an alternate venue in which to exercise your preference for Spanish language accents. It seems plausible to me that such might be better received (likely welcomed even) on the Spanish language Wikipedia, https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Portada.

As opposed to trying to force such upon the English language Wikipedia wherein it risks being viewed as culturally insensitive and perhaps even as sign of someone dragging in 'an axe to grind' in an attempt to make some sort of point* by persisting in forcing a non-neutral point of view in the face of multiple objections.

note: My attention was drawn here via https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rub%C3%A9n_Salazar&diff=615444182&oldid=607149872. Personally, I concur with those above that how an individual chooses/chose to spell their own name should take precedence over ancestral language conventions. Though I'm descended from a Fahringer, a Saneholtz, and a Schuler (in addition to a Jones) and speak a little German I don't see it as giving me some special dispensation to arbitrarily force German umlauts upon the English language version of Wikipedia. Something to reflect upon perhaps.

*Comayagua99, if by chance your 'point' has something to do with social politics in the U.S.A. please consider that the English language Wikipedia is intended as a resource for English language speakers around the world and that bringing in contention relating to a specific region results in disruption for all.

Hello. If I am not mistaken, you moved the page Ruben Salazar to a new page where Salazar's first name has an accent. To my knowledge (and I worked with him personally), he did not use the accent, and he pronounced his name Rue-buhn. Can you let me know any WP:Reliable source stating that he used the accent? Miami accent[edit]

I'm not deleting a "third of an article." I'm keeping the exact same information and sources, but in a more concise form. My question is why should a third of any article be comprised of something copied and pasted directly from another source? I don't think that's what makes a strong Wikipedia page. Some of the information is great and helpful, so I kept it, but using a more encyclopedic format, rather than the kind of language used in newspapers. Isn't it preferable for Wikipedia pages to be neat, short, and to-the-point whenever possible?

I'm not sure what you mean by the excerpted language "painting a picture of the accent". In fact, I think some of the writing in these articles may do more to confuse than to clarify. For example, they talk about how the Miami accent shares Spanish's "heavier L," when usually this exact sound (the non-velarized alveolar lateral approximant) is called a "light L" or "clear L."
