Happy Birthday!!

Happy 16th birthday, cymru lass! Have a great day! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 15° 30' 30" NET 01:02, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Holy expletive, it's my birthday!
I forgot. Thanks for the birthday wishes! Happy Halloween!! --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 01:04, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
I happened upon this page and learnt it's your birthday. I don't think we've met before, but just to spread the Wikilove: Happy Birthday! Heimstern Läufer (talk) 07:57, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Why thank you, kind stranger! Aside from a friend who stayed up 'til midnight for me, no-one off-wiki has mentioned it yet. Then again, it is something like 2 AM.... --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 08:01, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Hey yeah - Happy Birthday from another Dr Who fan! Now you need more than a nibble to store your age! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:47, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, Graeme! This is all very pleasant. This was actually the first thing I saw upon waking up due to forgetting to turn my laptop off! --- 14:02, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
You actually forgot is was your birthday? Might have been due to the concussion! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 213° 33' 0" NET 14:14, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Penblwydd Hapus! (and that's about as far as my knowledge of Welsh goes I'm afraid) Hope you're having a lovely day. the wub "?!" 21:32, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Hope I'm not late already ; however, buon compleanno from me too! Salvio Let's talk about it! 23:47, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
@TheSevenSeas, yes, I managed to forget it was my birthday I'm special like that. But it made it all that much better!
@the wub, thank you! I'd say thanks in Welsh, but I'm afraid I lack any knowledge whatsoever of the language, except "cymru". I won't get the chance to start learning for a few years
@Salvio, HI! Long time no talk! Thanks for the birthday wishes!! I love Italian (don't let my Spanish homies hear me saying that; they'll kill me :P)! You're definitely not too late, at least by my clock! --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 00:38, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
I believe "thanks" in welsh is "diolch". There's always The Welsh Wikipedia if you're up for learning the language. Spanish and Italian are very similar languages, so it shouldn't be too bad. Forgetting does indeed make it that more special! Suprises are great! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 16° 13' 45" NET 01:04, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the Welsh tip ! Hahaha, the fact that Italian and Spanish makes the playful rivalry between my Spanish and Italian friends all the more "serious". --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 01:09, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
No problem! I take it you're the inbetween? Someone's got to prevent World War III! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 256° 5' 0" NET 17:04, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Hahaha yep! I'm the gringa who speaks Spanish better than several of the Latinas and used to speak Italian --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 02:20, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
All that and to think Italy and Spain don't even share a border! I guess you should learn French then! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 321° 8' 15" NET 21:24, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Yep, I'm taking it next year—despite the fact that the French accent is the only accent I can't imitate. I can even do accents when reading (Romanized) Arabic and Hindi, but when I try to read French, I sound like a strangled cat --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 01:03, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
It takes time and practice to develop these things unless you've grown up with it. In that case, it becomes second nature. Can you actually read Arabic and Hindi? That's way better than French! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 325° 37' 15" NET 21:42, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
I can't read or understand Arabic and Hindi, but if I'm given a written-out (i.e., in the Roman alphabet) transliteration, I can do a passable accent. I pick up accents really easily—which isn't always a good thing. I spent 3 weeks in New Zealand almost five years ago, and I still speak with a en-zedder intonation and use their slang—which confuses the heck out of people, especially since I don't speak with an accent --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 23:54, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
That could come in useful at times! One of my friends is a kiwi, so I sort of know some of the slang. Do you really sound like a strangled cat when you try to read French? It can't be that bad! You know what a strangled cat sounds like? All I've ever heard are cats squealing at one another! Now that's what you call a cat fight! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 3° 31' 30" NET 00:14, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, I don't know what a strangled cat sounds like per se, but I'm guessing it's pretty close to me speaking French. I was in a French opera once (Carmen), and it took me forever to make sure I didn't sound like a fool! --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 00:36, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

I didn't think so. I would be surprised if you did. Isn't that going round in circles? If you were in a French opera, then you must have a good accent! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 14° 10' 45" NET 00:56, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Lucky for me, opera singers use softer accents than the typical Fresh accent when singing opera, at least where I live. --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 01:44, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
I guess in that case you can get away with it! If you did end up in a real French opera, then you'd have to try even harder! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 267° 1' 45" NET 17:48, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Hahaha, true that! --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 23:06, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful!

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating!

September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words).

October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page.

Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News

Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the February 2017 GOCE newsletter. The Guild has been busy since the last time your coordinators sent out a newsletter!

December blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 December; the themes were Requests and eliminating the November 2015 backlog. Of the 14 editors who signed up, nine editors completed 29 articles. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all who took part.

January drive: The January drive was a great success. We set out to remove December 2015 and January and February 2016 from our backlog (195 articles), and by 22 January we had cleared those and had to add a third month (March 2016). At the end of the month we had almost cleared out that last month as well, for a total of 180 old articles removed from the backlog! We reduced our overall backlog by 337 articles, to a low of 1,465 articles, our second-lowest month-end total ever. We also handled all of the remaining requests from December 2016. Officially, 19 editors recorded 337 copy edits (over 679,000 words).

February blitz: The one-week February blitz, focusing on the remaining March 2016 backlog and January 2017 requests, ran from 12 to 18 February. Seven editors reduced the total in those two backlog segments from 32 to 10 articles, leaving us in good shape going in to the March drive.

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 stepped aside as lead coordinator, remaining as coordinator and allowing Miniapolis to be the lead, and Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators. Thanks to all who participated!

Speaking of coordinators, congratulations to Jonesey95 on their well-deserved induction into the Guild of Copy Editors Hall of Fame. The plaque reads: "For dedicated service as lead coordinator (2014, 1 July – 31 December 2015 and all of 2016) and coordinator (1 January – 30 June 2015 and 1 January – 30 June 2017); exceptional template-creation work (considerably streamlining project administration), and their emphasis on keeping the GOCE a drama-free zone."

Housekeeping note: We do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Miniapolis, Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

Art+Feminism, Saturday, May 6, at Jacob Lawrence Gallery, UW Seattle

Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

Despite its wide reach, content on Wikipedia suffers from the bias of its editors: white, technically inclined, English-speaking men that live in developed, majority-Christian countries. This represents an alarming absence of voices in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

In an effort to change this, the Jake is organizing a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Saturday, May 6th, 1 - 5 pm. Our mission is to bring together diverse communities to participate in Wikipedia editing, and improve its coverage of queer people and women of color in the arts.

We will provide childcare, snacks, and tutorials for the beginner editor.

Bring your laptop, power-cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. No previous Wikipedia experience required!

RSVP at and stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates.

What: Improving Wikipedia's coverage on queer and women artists of color
When: Saturday, May 6, 1-5pm
Where: Jacob Lawrence Gallery, Art Building #132, 1915 NE Chelan Ln, Seattle, WA 98105
Who: People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate.
What to bring: A laptop and power cord. Access to UW wifi will be provided for non-UW affliated participants.

Guild of Copy Editors December 2017 News

Guild of Copy Editors December 2017 News

Hello copy editors! Welcome to the December 2017 GOCE newsletter, which contains nine months(!) of updates. The Guild has been busy and successful; your diligent efforts in 2017 has brought the backlog of articles requiring copy edit to below 1,000 articles for the first time. Thanks to all editors who have contributed their time and energy to help make this happen.

Our copy-editing drives (month-long backlog-reduction drives held in odd-numbered months) and blitzes (week-long themed editing in even-numbered months) have been very successful this year.

March drive: We set out to remove April, May, and June 2016 from our backlog and all February 2017 Requests (a total of 304 articles). By the end of the month, all but 22 of these articles were cleared. Officially, of the 28 who signed up, 22 editors recorded 257 copy edits (439,952 words). (These numbers do not always make sense when you compare them to the overall reduction in the backlog, because not all editors record every copy edit on the drive page.)

April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 April; the theme was Requests. Of the 15 who signed up, 9 editors completed 43 articles (81,822 words).

May drive: The goals were to remove July, August, and September 2016 from the backlog and to complete all March 2017 Requests (a total of 300 articles). By the end of the month, we had reduced our overall backlog to an all-time low of 1,388 articles. Of the 28 who signed up, 17 editors completed 187 articles (321,810 words).

June blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 18 through 24 June; the theme was Requests. Of the 16 who signed up, 9 editors completed 28 copy edits (117,089 words).

2017 Coordinator elections: In June, coordinators for the second half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 moved back into the lead coordinator position, with Miniapolis stepping down to remain as coordinator; Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators, and Keira1996 rejoined after an extended absence. Thanks to all who participated!

July drive: We set out to remove August, September, October, and November 2016 from the backlog and to complete all May and June 2017 Requests (a total of 242 articles). The drive was an enormous success, and the target was nearly achieved within three weeks, so that December 2016 was added to the "old articles" list used as a goal for the drive. By the end of the month, only three articles from 2016 remained, and for the second drive in a row, the backlog was reduced to a new all-time low, this time to 1,363 articles. Of the 33 who signed up, 21 editors completed 337 articles (556,482 words).

August blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 20 through 26 August; the theme was biographical articles tagged for copy editing for more than six months (47 articles). Of the 13 who signed up, 11 editors completed 38 copy edits (42,589 words).

September drive: The goals were to remove January, February, and March 2017 from the backlog and to complete all August 2017 Requests (a total of 338 articles). Of the 19 who signed up, 14 editors completed 121 copy edits (267,227 words).

October blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 22 through 28 October; the theme was Requests. Of the 14 who signed up, 8 editors completed 20 articles (55,642 words).

November drive: We set out again to remove January, February, and March 2017 from the backlog and to complete all October 2017 Requests (a total of 207 articles). By the end of the month, these goals were reached and the backlog shrank to its lowest total ever, 997 articles, the first time it had fallen under one thousand (click on the graph above to see this amazing feat in graphical form). It was also the first time that the oldest copy-edit tag was less than eight months old. Of the 25 who signed up, 16 editors completed 159 articles (285,929 words).

2018 Coordinator elections: Voting is open for the election of coordinators for the first half of 2018. Please visit the election page to vote between now and December 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Thanks for participating!

Housekeeping note: We do not send a newsletter before (or after) every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Miniapolis, Corinne, Tdslk, and Keira1996.

GOCE February 2018 news

Guild of Copy Editors February 2018 News

Welcome to the February 2018 GOCE newsletter in which you will find Guild updates since the December edition. We got to a great start for the year, holding the backlog at nine months. 100 requests were submitted in the first 6 weeks of the year and were swiftly handled with an average completion time of 9 days.

Coordinator elections: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2018 were elected. Jonesey95 remained as lead coordinator and Corrine, Miniapolis and Tdslk as assistant coordinators. Keira1996 stepped down as assistant coordinator and was replaced by Reidgreg. Thanks to all who participated!

End of year reports were prepared for 2016 and 2017, providing a detailed look at the Guild's long-term progress.

January drive: We set out to remove April, May, and June 2017 from our backlog and all December 2017 Requests (a total of 275 articles). As with previous years, the January drive was an outstanding success and by the end of the month all but 57 of these articles were cleared. Officially, of the 38 who signed up, 21 editors recorded 259 copy edits (490,256 words).

February blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 February, focusing on Requests and the last articles tagged in May 2017. At the end of the week there were only 14 pending requests, with none older than 20 days. Of the 11 who signed up, 10 editors completed 35 copy edits (98,538 words).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Miniapolis, Corinne, Tdslk, and Reidgreg.

Wikipedia is one of the most wide-reaching repositories of shared knowledge, yet a 2011 survey found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female, suggesting an alarming absence of voices. What and how information is shared is skewed by this gender disparity. To help change this, the Jacob Lawrence Gallery is organizing a quarterly series of Edit-a-thons to improve Wikipedia's coverage of womxn artists of color.

This Saturday afternoon's gathering will focus on creating, editing, updating, and expanding pages for womxn artists from Latin America and the Caribbean. The Edit-a-thon will feature a talk by Dan Paz, Lecturer in the UW School of Art + Art History + Design, an artist, and an educator who explores the labor of digital imaging production as a collaborative site where the intersections of the image-idea and lived experience are produced and contested. Through videos, photography, and sculptural projects that query the ability of documentary processes to be manipulated—to be multiplied and replicated, stopped and started, rewound and advanced—Dan works within the impossibilities of absolute replication to question the very ability of the image to truly represent.

Everyone is welcome. Access to UW WiFi will be provided for non-UW affiliated participants. All you need to bring is your laptop, power cord, and ideas. No previous Wikipedia experience required! Childcare, snacks from local businesses, and editing tutorials will be provided. Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

June 2018 GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2018 News

Welcome to the June 2018 GOCE newsletter, in which you will find Guild updates since the February edition. Progress continues to be made on the copyediting backlog, which has been reduced to 7 months and reached a new all-time low. Requests continue to be handled efficiently this year, with 272 completed by the end of May (an average completion time of 10.5 days). Fewer than 10% of these waited longer than 20 days, and the longest wait time was 29 days.

Wikipedia in general, and the Guild in particular, experienced a deep loss with the death on 20 March of Corinne. Corinne (a GOCE coordinator since 1 July 2016) was a tireless aide on the requests page, and her peerless copyediting is a part of innumerable GAs and FAs. Her good cheer, courtesy and tact are very much missed.

March drive: The goal was to remove June, July and August 2017 from our backlog and all February 2018 Requests (a total of 219 articles). This drive was an outstanding success, and by the end of the month all but eight of these articles were cleared. Of the 33 editors who signed up, 19 recorded 277 copy edits (425,758 words).

April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 15 through 21 April, focusing on Requests and the last eight articles tagged in August 2017. At the end of the week there were only 17 pending requests, with none older than 17 days. Of the nine editors who signed up, eight editors completed 22 copy edits (62,412 words).

May drive: We set out to remove September, October and November 2017 from our backlog and all April 2018 Requests (a total of 298 articles). There was great success this month with the backlog more than halved from 1,449 articles at the beginning of the month to a record low of 716 articles. Officially, of the 20 who signed up, 15 editors recorded 151 copy edits (248,813 words).

Coordinator elections: It's election time again. Nominations for Guild coordinators (who will serve a six-month term for the second half of 2018) have begun, and will close at 23:59 UTC on 15 June. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible, and self-nominations are encouraged. Voting will take place between 00:01 UTC on 16 June and 23:59 UTC on 30 June.

June blitz: Stay tuned for this one-week copy-editing blitz, which will take place in mid-June.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Corinne, Jonesey95, Miniapolis, Reidgreg and Tdslk.

Reversing my edits

Thank you for your welcome, but I don't plan to stay here. I just want those citations to be removed from singer Tarkan's page for three reasons.

i) They are not correct citations. The should be removed for stylistic purposes anyway. Where are the correct links? Where is the original articles? You can't just use the versions I translated and not even cite correctly.

ii) In one case I used an example by providing the original source link and its original heading in place of MY TRANSLATION of it and you reversed that, too.

You can't have it both way by stealing from my blog and then not citing correctly. Either find the original source or remove the info.

iii) It is theft because all those so-called citations if you google them will all bring up my translated articles as they are the only source on the net. So-called "editors" have simply used my work and removed my blog's name. I do not give permission for any of my work to be used, correctly cited or not.

There are even whole quotes lifted from my translations and again all credit to me removed.

I agree with that. My blog is only a private blog and in no way should it be used as source or reference on that page - but if it's going to be done, please let it be done properly.

Just wondering

1. So you’re a fluffy kitten, and not quite 24.

2. The icon with ”123” for your edit count says server error, for me. Could be coz I’m on an iPhone or in Australia.

3. I was miffed when orphanwiki undid my reformat in less than 1minute in History of male circumcision on 12Aug. And only recently saw that you reinstated my typing. I’d been wondering how to get others to view what I’d typed, for a 2nd opinion; so how did you see it? Have you got special (psychic) powers?

4. Similar thing for Primavera (painting), just today. Quite confusing; similar sentences, seem contradictory on first (and 2nd) reading; so I “corrected” it. It’s been reverted by johnbod who wrote it in Jun2017, and lots of other bits. He also thinks 'Allegory of Spring' is unreferenced; despite it being in the article from before 2010, til he removed it in June 2017; and LOTS of Google refs including EBrit. So; will (most) others see my edit; or is it only the mavens (like you)?

5. Welsh?

6. My iPhone dictionaries (US and UK) can’t find mavin! So I went with maven.

MBG02 (talk) 17:12, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

@MBG02: Hi there! Sorry for the delay, I'm travelling for work right now. I noticed your edits because I sometimes keep an eye on the new changes feed on here. You can read more about that here. To bring up an issue with an edit, if it's vandalism or something where the user behavior is in question, the common practice is warning the user on their own user talk page. However, if it's a content issue, the practice is to bring it up on the talk page of the article in question so others interested in the article can easily locate and participate in the discussion. I'd suggest pinging the other user(s) involved using {{ping|username1|username2|etc}} at the front of your comment so that they get a notification that you started a thread they may be interested in.
I did restore your edit to Talk:Yo-yo that was removed by that editor as that was obviously a mistake. Something that is obviously a mistaken revert can be re-reverted, with a proper edit summary. However, we do have a three-revert rule, as well as rules about "edit warring" so I'd give those two pages a look over. If in doubt, discussing it on the article talk page is a good idea.
All of the pages I linked in this reply various Wikipedia policies and guidelines that you might find helpful or relevant! Some of them are pretty long, but if you give the intro a read and then take a look at the sections of each that seem relevant, you'll get a pretty good feel for the way things work around here.
Welsh, but very far removed! 4 generations ago, I think. Just an admirer of the culture, and I was 14 (wow!) when I picked this username
As for asking others to take a look at an edit you've made, I would suggest posting a message on the talk page of a relevant WikiProject (group of editors who work to maintain articles related to a specific subject). You can generally find what WikiProjects an article belongs to by looking on the article's talk page. So Talk:History of male circumcision has banners at the top with links to 5 different WikiProjects that might have editors who could weigh in on your edit.
Hope this guidance helps! Let me know if you have any more questions for me, and happy editing!! cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 17:28, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
1. Triffic. Thanks. I hadn’t done anything about the Yo-Yo one, because I hadn’t figured out if there was a difference between his view (on a computer) and mine (on the iPhone); it looked alright to me, but I had typed “==“ to separate my post from the references; coz they looked (to me) like they were part of my post.
2. The Circumcision one seemed like too much (in size) to post to Talk. I was mostly annoyed that no-one else had had the opportunity to see it; and was still (3 days ago) trying to figure out how to get an “interested party” to comment on it (not realising you’d reinstated it 4 weeks earlier). My thinking (7 weeks ago) was to “talk” to the most active editors; but I checked the top12 and they were all banned or inactive! Controversial subject!
3. So I was wondering if the same thing (an angel like you) would happen for the Primavera article? I’m ready to post to Talk, but I’ll wait for your comments.
4. (Trivia) Australia’s only female prime minister (so far), was born in Wales.
MBG02 (talk) 18:51, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

I still don’t know how you saw my edit, 3 weeks after I did it. Are you going to see this? Or should I post on the top page?

I am still waiting for your comments to above (esp #3), and I have a new Q.

Replaceable fair use File:Valerie Davidson from AK LtGov Website.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Valerie Davidson from AK LtGov Website.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 03:44, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

@Whpq: replied on the file talk page! cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 15:11, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
I'm replying here because the file talk page may be deleted when the image is deleted. I can appreciate the desire to provide a photo as is common with other biographies of politicians, however, non-free content must be complaint with Wikipedia:Non-free content, and meet all of the criteria outlined in Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. For living people, point 1 on replaceability is almost always an issue as a free image of a living person can be taken. It's not sufficient that you can't find one existing now, it also must be teh case that one cannot be created. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 16:26, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
@Whpq: Fair enough. The nuances of the policy aren't really something I'm familiar with since I don't do a lot of File: work, so I'll defer to your judgement here. Cheers, cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 18:36, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 5th Avenue (candy), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hershey's (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:10, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

Labradoodle

undid undo

I've undone your undo of my edits to the Labradoodle article; I was still in the review-and-touchup phase when you made the reversion, and want the whole package to be intact.

Please note that almost all of my revisions are merely corrections to citations (e.g. mistaken use of "|edition=" instead of "|publisher=" and missing links to original URLs when an archive URL is given. Most of all, I converted depricated web-links to the preferred {{cite web |url=... |title=...}} form.

Since I did not change the substance of the text in the article, I suspect that you may have thought that I deleted something, when all I did was move it around when creating subsections. And regarding subsections/subheadings: recall that the Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and long runs of unbroken prose are, in fact, a bad thing. The general style of writing should be short and choppy, so that impatient readers can get in, get what they want, and get out quickly. I think that that's what my changes have done.

I am certainly aware that the edited article still has problems: There's a sentence about "comfortable living in a condo as living on a sprawling acreage" that is an un-cited statement of opinion, not a fact; the sizes are described in two places, and the coats are described in three places. All bad, but it would require more art or care than I have available at the moment to trim the whole text and fix those problems. 24.21.60.20 (talk) 19:47, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

done editing

I think that I've finished all the editing that I have the ambition for on the Labradoodle article, so I will no longer have any editing conflicts with your reversion, should you choose to do so. 24.21.60.20 (talk) 20:30, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Help on Becoming an admin and How

Hello I think I need help becoming an admin and how do I become one ? TUB3900 (talk) 01:11, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

@TheUltamateBoss3900: you'll want to take a look at Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship, as well as this essay on new users and requests for adminship and Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates. The long and the short of it is that a new user who is still learning the ropes here will probably not pass a request for adminship (RfA). Spend more time familiarising yourself with our policies, our guidelines, and getting involved in areas such as vandalism reversion and deletion discussions before requesting adminship. cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 01:16, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
  • (talk page stalker) That's a good answer Cymru.las . In short, one needs to work on different project areas such as Good articles, DYK, deletion discussions, ANI, RFPP, and more importantly, gain the trust of the community. Adminship is not a reward, but a responsibility. The more you work on the mentioned areas, you learn more. --Titodutta (talk) 14:38, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

Lisa Fay

Hello Cymru.lass, Thanks for paying attention to the template attempt regarding Lisa Fay. I don't really know what I'm doing, but trying to learn. I think it's probably not a good idea that I be the one looking into creating this entry but someone else who is not involved, and who knows how to work with Wikipedia. Is there a way to find out if someone would be interested in considering making an entry about the work of Lisa Fay in theatre - in social issues theatre and experimental theatre over the past thirty years? I'm reading many of the pages about how Wikipedia works, but there's a lot to learn and I shouldn't be learning by trial and error. All the best to you, Bubby (talk) 09:56, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

@Jeff Glassman: Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm going to go ahead and agree that you're probably not the person to be writing the article. I don't mean to offend, however! But you hit the nail on the head when you said that someone who is not involved should write the article. Wikipedia has a guideline on conflicts of interest (COIs) that is relevant here. I'd urge you to give it a look over; it's actually not too bad a read. What's most relevant to you is sections 1, 2, and 7. This is a quick and simple explanatory guide to accompany our COI guideline.
So where do you go from here, given that information? There's two avenues you can take. The first is going to Wikipedia:Requested articles, reading the instructions at the top of that page, and then posting it to this list of requested theatre people articles, with links to sources.
Or you can go through our Articles for Creation process, where you draft an article and wait for it to be approved by one of our volunteer reviewers. You'll have to disclose your COI in any case, and instructions for how to do that (it's quick and easy, we have a template for it) are here. I'm not sure it applies here, but I do have to note that if you are getting paid in any way for editing, you not only have to disclose your conflict of interest, but that you are getting paid for your edits. Information on that is just below the COI disclosure instructions on the page I linked.
I know this is a lot to throw at you, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions! P.S. I have several people near and dear to me who work at Krannert! Small world. cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 13:28, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello again Cymru.lass! Thanks for all you say. I really need to be "talking" to someone. I've read a good deal of the Wikipedia material and still am lost. You are certainly helping. Before I follow up on your two avenues that you suggest, let me lay out a few things. There is no payment regarding this desire I have for Lisa to appear in Wikipedia. The conflict of interest is that we are long-time collaborators (27 years) in artistic work as Lisa Fay and Jeff Glassman Duo. Our artistic fates are interconnected. I have had a Wiki page for a long time, since 2006. I don't know where it came from - possibly from students at The Evergreen State College where I teach from time to time. I just don't know. It began with several glaring factual errors which I corrected and put my name to the corrections. It's all very short. For a long time I've felt a person searching for Lisa Fay ought to find information on Lisa's importance - in our work together and also in her work independent of our duo - and that she has a remarkable history of contribution to social issues theatre and experimental theatre. So now I'm doing something about it. There are other people who would do this, some I know and there are some I don't know. But how to begin? So I delved into it myself, and found the conflict of interest descriptions and see clearly that I'm not the person to do this, but other people don't necessarily think of it, or think they could have access to making a Wiki entry...I just don't know. I have no problem of course making a CoI claim...does that exclude me from helping or being a source of information? I'm looking at the two ways of proceeding you suggest. Is one better than the other? There is the concern that the information about Lisa Fay is something I have at hand and ready to go or write, whereas someone else would have to work at it and might not understand what they find. Can I be a consultant? So Request Articles, or, Articles for Creation...which do you suppose for starters? If you know people at Krannert, we might very well know them too! Our duo is in residence at Krannert, working on a new production we're creating. As you say, small world. All the best, and thanks again very much for your help in this! Intersex people and military service in the United States

Hi, about your edits to the article, I have to question some of the decitions. You removed the Navy section, but it was sourced by a reliable source, why is that? You also removed the link to Military brat, but Zzyym calls themselves "military brat" in the video, this is a recognized subculture in the united states. I don't see why it should be removed, it gives context to their person and experiences. I hope you don't take offence.★Trekker (talk) 20:53, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

@*Treker: I removed the Navy section because it was a copy and paste of the Air Force section, right down to saying that the "Air Force" rather than "Navy", so I wasn't sure if it was a mistake or not. As far as removing the reference to Zzyym as a "military brat", it was due to the tone of the sentence. I'm down to reinstate the link to military brat (U.S. subculture), but with more encyclopedic wording. Maybe something along the lines of stating Zzyym "grew up in a military family" with the wikilink like that, or stating "Zzyym, who refers to themselves as a military brat" etc. cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 21:03, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
I see, maybe I could reword the Navy section someway. I also think your idea for the Zzyym is good!★Trekker (talk) 21:31, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
@*Treker: Sounds good to me! Cheers, and happy holidays cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 21:42, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
Happy holidays to you too! Not 100% sure what holiday tho. Haha. ★Trekker (talk) 21:53, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
@*Treker: technically American Thanksgiving Thursday, but for me November and December are just one big happy season! cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 22:38, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Draft Article

Hello Cymru.lass. (I sure hope I'm putting this in the correct place for you. I am not savvy.) Thank you for your feedback. Sourcing is always a challenge when writing about living artists (which is an interest of mine). While researching this article I came across a non-profit that has contributed much and yet they are not on Wiki. I hope the sources I've gathered for that are sufficient. We shall soon find out. The article in question already has sources, when there are more I will add them, thank you. Etnacross (talk) 15:20, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

this is a real quote FYI

→‎Finance: Ackerman also said that day to the SEC, “One guy with a few friends and helpers discovered this thing nearly a decade ago, led you to this pile of dung, Bernie Madoff and stuck your nose in it and you could not figure it out”)

I posted a Q on your archive page Nov17. Did you know?

I’m still wondering how you saw my (reformatting) edit to circumcision, 3 weeks after I did it.

I posted a Q to [1] and I’m wondering if I can just revert... or what. It’s a serious Q (to me), trivial compared to the rest of the article, but I expect more than a few to be interested. So will others see it anyway (in the same “magical” way you saw the circumcision one)? I really dislike the nazi-like way my post was excised.

@MBG02: oops, I seem to have missed your earlier message! I'm sorry about that. It looks like that's because it was posted to a subpage of my talkpage; Wikipedia will only give a user a notification if the message is posted directly on their talkpage, or if you ping them (by putting {{ping|username}} in your comment) like I did at the start of this one. I can't quite remember for sure, but I think I found your reformatting edit just by browsing Wikipedia. I spend a lot of time on here just reading, looking through histories, stuff like that.
As for the edit to Talk:Barack Obama, I think the reason it was removed is that it wasn't so much a discussion on how to improve the article, but a question about the subject. Some people will remove those from higher-traffic talk pages so that discussion about article improvement doesn't get lost among the shuffle. We have a place on Wikipedia called the Reference Desk, which is possibly a better place for the question. I'd suggest posting your question there and seeing if anyone there knows the answer! Cheers, cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 17:45, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

I see it as [actually it is] an extension of something already in the article. In many (most)? topics the origin of the name is important – actors, bands, countries, places...
The (implied) Q is a bit broader; how Americans (or any country) treat people with foreign names. (So, that bit is for a different page.)
And it’s impossible to discuss an article without discussing its subject!

Prep 1

Hi, thanks for helping out with promoting prep sets at DYK. A heads-up: 6 out of 8 hooks in this set are biographies. We generally try to achieve a 50/50 ratio, alternating bios and non-bios in the set. Take a look at Prep 6 for example. Best, Yoninah (talk) 02:52, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

@Yoninah: oh no! I'm sorry for the mix-up. I'm still pretty new to the process and I'll definitely be mindful of that in the future; thank you for bringing it to my attention, Yoninah. Cheers, cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 02:55, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
