Yes, this is an odd one in that it's a transclusion rather than a template as such. As such it satisfies WP:NFCC in spirit but not in letter. Of course, the best thing would be to get free images of the two phones! Black Kite 19:51, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, just wanted to drop a note to let you know that User:Mwpnl configured a welcome bot for us - there shouldn't be any need to welcome users manually any more. Thanks for doing the 'editsemiprotected' request.
In future, when you do those, could you please stick "tn|" in the template, ie {{tn|editsemiprotect}}, so it is no longer flagged as needing attention? You might want to use {{done}} too. See this edit. Keep up the good work; cheers! Chzz ► 03:24, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Ipod Touch 1st Generation.JPG
A tag has been placed on File:Ipod Touch 1st Generation.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria.
If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the image can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Removal of PROD from Veg-O-Matic
Hello HereToHelp, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Veg-O-Matic has been removed. It was removed by Phil Bridger with the following edit summary 'Contest deletion - if you want this to be referenced or expanded then it wouldn't be hard for you to do so using some of the 555 Google Books hits for the article title.'. Please consider discussing your concerns with Phil Bridger before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. iPod Classic
Hi HeretoHelp, I'm rather new at editing Wikipedia pages, but I have been so angry about the recent alleged incompatibility problems between iTunes 9 and iPod Classics that I researched and added a page to the iTunes article and the iPod Classic article. You politely removed my edit from the iTunes page, and I accept your explanation. However, a different user edited my contribution to the iPod Classic page, saying that my sources were unreliable under Wikipedia standards. I disupte that and wonder if you could take a look at it. I think that editor was being too stringent, but I don't have the Wikipedia expertise to back it up. I'm refering specifically to the last paragraph under http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipod_classic#Hardware_issues . Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.92.1.199 (talk) 22:23, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

A summary of the community's comments on our WP:Edit warring policy will be featured in the Policy Report in next Monday's Signpost, and you're invited to participate. Monthly changes to this page are available at WP:Update/1/Conduct policy changes, July 2009 to December 2009, and it may help to look at previous policy surveys at WT:SOCK#Interview for Signpost, WT:CIVILITY#Policy Report for Signpost or WT:U#Signpost Policy Report. Help needed with Mac reviews
Could you take a look at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/BeLight_Software and comment if the allegations of "bought reviews" in MacWorld etc. ring true or not? Thanks, Pcap ping 15:51, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
By the way, I looked at Wikipedia:WikiProject Apple Inc. first, but their talk page is red... So, I'm not sure anyone is still watching it. Pcap ping 15:51, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. And I watch WP:MAC, but nothing ever happens with it. There are maybe half a dozen editors who actively contribute to Apple-related articles. HereToHelp (talk to me) 16:18, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- If those Mac magazines, MacWorld and MacUser, are nor reliable sources for the notability of Mac software, then perhaps a notice at WP:RS/N is in order; it's easier to find it there in the future AfDs. I don't know much about the Mac literature. I did some (paid) programming on the platform at one point porting some Posix software to it, but I don't follow the Mac shows, read the magazines etc. I'm not a fan, or even much "in the know"... Pcap ping 20:56, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- I've never heard of MacUser (probably because it's British and I'm in the States), but MacWorld is a reliable source for information, but it does not (on its own) confer notability. For example, just because they reviewed a TED viewer app for iPhone does not mean it needs its own article, just a sentence at TED (conference). In fact, I'm going to go do that now. HereToHelp (talk to me) 21:20, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
- I agree that even trivial Mac software tends to get unusually high levels of attention in the IT press. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Super Get Info seems to prove that. Pcap ping 13:49, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:IPhone keyboard unblured.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:IPhone keyboard unblured.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. IngerAlHaosului (talk) 14:33, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

iPhone
For what it's worth, I went back and compared the article before and after my changes and found that no images were pushed down. But, if you do find that they shift images around, I think we should use the "extendable lists" (I'm not really sure what you call them, but you know those things with the show/hide boxes next to them?) found in the PlayStation 3 infobox. You also mentioned that when the iPhone 4G is released, then the article will get too complicated. When that happens, shouldn't we just separate each iteration of the iPhone into their own separate articles? The List of iPhone OS devices article is already very complicated and should just remain a comparison chart. I would even say that that article should eventually be split into separate "Comparison of iPhone models," "iPod touch models," and "iPad models." As for the TRRS edit, thanks for clarifying. I really didn't know that. :] All the best, Horserice (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:50, 8 April 2010 (UTC).

Obsolete Mac redirect pages
Hello. Since you're an admin for WP:APPLE, is it OK if I ask you to delete the following Macintosh redirect pages that are orphaned? It's non-controversial and I don't see any future use for them, but they don't seem to fall under any CSD criteria:

- Wikipedia:WikiProject Macintosh/Article alerts (I also listed it at RFD)

IPhone 4G
Hi, I see you salted the article at IPhone 4G in July 2009. Since that time, the whole issue with the 4G and the article by Gizmodo has come up, and someone has started an article on it at Iphone 4g. I've done minor cosmetic work on the article (it still needs an awful lot of cleanup), and discovered the salt when I tried to move it to the correctly-named page as part of that.
What's the right approach here? I'd suggest unsalting IPhone 4G and moving it. This is one of the rare cases where a still-unreleased product is notable due to the Gizmodo kerfuffle. I suppose it could be under a name like "Gizmodo iPhone 4G controversy," but that's a pretty unlikely search term, and its content would just be merged into IPhone 4G when it the product is released. TJRC (talk) 17:47, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
- The name "iPhone 4G" is inappropriate because it (probably) does not use 4G cellular technology. [1] We decided that iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS were inappropriate because it would lead to mostly duplicate information. We do have List of iPhone OS devices, but we'll need to wait until it's official. I suggest we take the content and sources and merge them into iPhone#Fourth generation prototypes, salt the page, and every other similar page we can think of. (If you're not an admin, tell me and I'll handle it.) HereToHelp (talk to me) 20:53, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
Re: iPhone
I'm not sure if there's any mention of this in the WP:MOS; I do know that it is suggested that hatnotes at the to of articles be placed before anything else, including images, however. In regards to hatnotes at the top of sections, the reason I moved them before the images is because previously, the hatnotes were not indented; now that they are placed before they images, they are indented. The hatnotes SHOULD be separated as clearly as possible from the rest of the text, since they exist to highlight articles that are uniquely important to that particular section. Gary King (talk) 21:24, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Grab some glory, and a barnstar
Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. mono 00:39, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I'm going to be out of the country in July (and half of august), so my editing will be minimal if not nonexistent. Sorry. HereToHelp (talk to me) 01:56, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
iPhone 4
Hi, I just wanted to ask if you could unlock the iPhone 4 article page so that we (anyone) can perform a split.
The iPhone article is currently over 100 KB, and Wikipedia suggests that any page of 100 KB should almost indefinitely be split, additionally, the iPhone page has become far to complicated to understand. It has been discussed a number of times on the iPhone's talk page, and there are currently two active discussions taking place. There has been considerable amount of support for the idea of splitting the article into 5 or 4 articles, giving each model their own page, and having an additional article to discuss the iPhone line in general, in a similar way to the iPod and iMac articles.

Can we discuss this as part of the GA review? The reviewer complained the current image is too dark. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 13:51, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
iphone 4
Could you please unprotect iphone 4 (as typed with a lower case "p" as opposed to the upper case "P"), as it is still protected for some reason and cannot be redirected to the iPhone 4 page as it should be, rather than the ambiguous iPhone page. Thank you.--Jojhutton (talk) 15:44, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- It's still protected, but I changed the redirect. HereToHelp (talk to me) 16:07, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- Don't understand the continued need for protection, but thanks for making the switch.--Jojhutton (talk) 16:15, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Pronunciations
Thanks for the note about pronunciations -- I've corrected the IPA and removed the incorrect respelling in the articles you mention. I do find it silly/pedantic to indicate the pronunciation of the letters and numbers, but I've left it nonetheless. --Macrakis (talk) 23:20, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Macintosh FAR
Hi HereToHelp - Are you still working on Macintosh, attempting to rectify issues brought up at the FAR? The review has quite a few outstanding delists, and if there wasn't an editor obviously interested in improving the article (you), it would have most likely been delisted already. If you are still interested in working in the article within the contraints of FAR, I will keep the review open. If you don't have the time, there is also always the option of it being delisted now and being brought back to FAC whenever you feel it is ready, whether that is in two months or two years. Please let me know your feelings on this, and also, please feel free to ping reviewers who have entered delist declarations if you feel that you have fixed or responded to their objections. Thanks in advance, Dana boomer (talk) 02:38, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- I came here to ask the same thing. It's been open since early April; a peer review should be done separately, and the sources dealt with independently. I think consensus to to delist now, and fix the rest without a deadline. —fetch·comms 02:46, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

iPhone 4
Who said it has to be a straight-on shot? Something as shiny as the iPhone tends to come out badly in a shot like that, but taking it from an angle looks nicer and is easier to see. I've seen plenty of straight on photos we have on here of the iPhone, I think it came out better this way. When this photo is cropped, it comes out awkward because the photo was clearly taken at an angle. Trust me: I tried taking one straight on (and I'll try again), but it just looks nicer like this. aido2002talk·userpage 03:40, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, that much makes sense. I'll get on that. aido2002talk·userpage 03:47, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

"Part of the problem is maintaining order when there aren't many involved editors to watch anonymous additions"
Yeah, I feel your pain - I haven't even logged in for a real edit for about 3 years, and have to spend a lot of time cleaning up 2 years or so worth of edits on Microsoft (teetering on becoming a FARC itself). It's sad to see the old FA tech articles decay.... you'd hope several editors would step in and at least try to keep the articles tidy but unfortunately it seems to be a one or two-man job still.
The actual FARC of macintosh....
- Ignore the comments concerning referencing in the lead section; mostly because some of the more serious reviewers if it goes back to FAC are going to stick it to you on (double)referencing in the lead section on every sentence, controversial or not.
- As mentioned David raises a lot of points - it really needs to be written in more of a historical context, as it keeps mentioning "current" and generally current tense which is bad for FA's in general. Furtunately it's a lot easier to fix then it sounds, just a bunch of prose reworking.
- Also mentioned is the pictures of the OS, and tying in your question of what "macintosh" really defines. In my opinion it's safer to assume the Mac OS article takes care of more of the software details - as you'll have a much more solid fair use ground for the OS pictures - and the macintosh article mostly focusing on the "pure" hardware macintosh computers, and just consider the iPad, iPhone etc. as seperate entities for now. This is probably where the real work lies, although even then it isn't that bad. As mentioned, just make sure to keep it in context and consider Mac OS as the operating system and Macintosh as the hardware.
- Just a few things need referencing.... not a big deal. Sometimes it can be hard to find RS's for this stuff, especially the older parts, though.
In summary, just needs a bit of a rework; and structure is easy to fix - really just a solid few days, if that. So, don't get too upset if it gets delisted, the problems are relateively easy to fix, as least from what I can see. RN 15:46, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
- Speaking of which it's nice to see there are still level-headed mac/apple editors still here. Apple's article itself is kind of a disaster, plauged by fervent fanboys as usual unfortunately. RN 15:50, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, when they say it has too much history, they are right in a way - just need to de-emphasize the software more in the history section, which really should be in Mac OS anyway. I think you're overcomplicating things just a bit, I mean it's clearly a combination of all 3 types of personalities you mentioned - it's just the hardware side of it. Since in the apple world the hardware is the end-product and not the software like MS things like how it was advertised and such (Justin Long etc.) can still be mentioned in a passing way; at least if you like my suggestion for the article anyway. RN 16:19, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
- "but a Macintosh really is a synthesis of hardware and software (and even netware)" - oh, I definately agree with that. I'm simply saying that parts like
- "In 1987, Apple spun off its software business as Claris. It was given the code [etc...]"" get into way too much detail about the company and/or software and could be summarized in like.... 1 sentence (not to mention the paragraph after that which is almost 100% company-oriented). The problem is it can't really be a catch-all article, or I should say it can, but you need to decide on the priority of what you are going to emphasize, and adjust and condense accordingly, and since there are already articles for the OS and company itself my feeling was to simply prioritize the hardware. Feel free to disagree though. RN 17:14, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
File source problem with File:IPhone 4.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:IPhone 4.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:33, 3 July 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rodhullandemu 23:33, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Robotics vital articles
Hi
I made a second post, this time to the project page, about robotics vital articles posted here which is a little more coherent than the one that you replied to on the level three talk page - I re-read it and my brain doesnt seem to have been in full working order when I posted the first one :¬)
I am unsure as to how the selection process etc works so have left the request for the project once I realised that I had probably posted in a little used talk page.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:WikiProject Apple Inc. banner.png
A tag has been placed on File:WikiProject Apple Inc. banner.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Fair use rationale for File:Enigmo 2.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Enigmo 2.png.
Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:17, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

i made this, i was going to deal with it, but the the page was locked, then i read the page discussion. thumb Evan-Amos (talk) 19:11, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- looking at it, i wonder if it'd be better to just cheat it using my original as a template. not that i want to try and figure that out right now, but something to think about.Evan-Amos (talk) 19:13, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Willing to edit my page before posting?
Hi, I'm technologically challenged and only wanted to create a page because Jennifer Lauck should have one. Out of respect for everyone else's contributions and time, I would like as much help as possible to prevent inferior content. I'm having difficulty navigating these pages. I posted this on Catespace, user area, I think was the name. Can you help me? Erin — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catespace (talk • contribs) 17:08, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Regarding your protected IPhone 5 article
Hi HereToHelp. In late 2009, you wisely preemptively created and protected IPhone 5. Now that more details about the new device are circulating, I think it's time to start building an article about it. Would you please consider deleting your IPhone 5 redirect so that I can move Upcoming iPhone 5 to IPhone 5? Thanks! Cory Donnelly (talk) 15:19, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Can you reduce the protection timeout to something more sensible, say a week or two? Indefinite protection seems a little excessive ;). -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 22:18, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Ipad
I believe the edit should be left in since it is a fact and not POVish. It is false advertising to say it is Bluetooth compliance when it actually crippled. I'm fully aware that it is not technical issues, but it is Apple decision to cripple it, making it cripple ware. Yosri (talk) 19:49, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Please unprotect this page. I'll be blunt: there is absolutely no evidence of actual or threatened disruption after the redirect, which makes protection goes directly against the protection policy ("Pre-emptive full protection of articles is contrary to the open nature of Wikipedia."). Moreover, two out of three editors in a discussion cannot make a "consensus" except in exceedingly rare cases, which this one is not. And since you proposed and supported the redirect, it is especially inappropriate for you to then attempt to lock the page to your favored version. This is against both the admin policy and the protection policy ("Administrators should not protect or unprotect a page to further their own position in a content dispute."). T. Hey, just per your (very polite, so thank you) request: It doesn't take an army of sources to know that an enormously popular product by one of the largest computer companies in history is notable. It's just common sense from my perspective. Steven Walling 03:57, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

Apple store news
Hello, sorry if I made an error but I had no intention to disrupt Wikipedia. I am not sure where in WP:POINT does it say "start with an article and find information, but not the other way around". Should users not attempt to incorporate current information from the media into articles unless they were already seeking information to add to an existent article? I posted the information in the discussion pages because it appeared on the newspaper's front page, so I thought some readers might find it relevant to Apple. The information was about Apple and iPhone, so I sought feedback in those articles. Would you have preferred that I obtain feedback via some other method, or that I post in one page only? You did not specify why you felt the news article was not notable for inclusion. I'm now aware that there are the articles Apple Store and Criticism of Apple Inc. which might be relevant articles. Would you consider it disruptive to ask for feedback in such articles' discussion page? Thanks. Shawnc (talk) 04:57, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. I understand your concern and appreciate your admission that it was just your personal guideline and not official policy. If I may make an observation, I feel that in the future, other users will appreciate it more if you can help them distinguish, at the outset, between your opinion and community concensus regarding guidelines and policies. As an iPhone user myself, I consider it important that we don't automatically dismiss criticism regarding our favorite companies. Thanks for the feedback! Shawnc (talk) 06:20, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject US Presidents
It was recently suggested that WikiProject US Presidents might be inactive or semiactive and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. I have started a discussion on the projects talk page soliciting the opinions of the members of the project if this project would be interested in being supported by WikiProject United States. Please feel free to comment on your opinions about this suggestion. --Kumioko (talk) 02:30, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
