Howard Stern[edit]

I've tried for awhile just to get that one, and I just did a quick search and there's still nothing recent that I could see that was quality. There were a few from 2005/6 that I saw, but they had poor poses. The best bet is to try and contact his show or agent to see if they are willing to release an image. Otherwise, keep searching Flickr for new images. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 06:22, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Citing sources[edit]

In general you can use it for quotes or for how the person is feeling, but its best to use secondary sources instead. You can find info there and then look to see if you can find a secondary source for it on the web, then use that internet source instead. Googles News Archives are great; make sure you search for articles with no price as that will give you freely accessible articles. Also The New York Times archives are currently free back to 1987. Here's a search for articles mentioning Howard Stern sorted by oldest first:[1] Those would be good to look through regardless imho. Also here is an unbelievably awesome site that I sometimes browse through which doesn't meet WP:RS but is useful as a directory since it cites articles:[2] Its dead now but you can browse it via the internet archive like this. If you scroll to the bottom there are links to articles on the history of Stern's show and its broadcast history with tons of affiliates. If you scroll to the bottom of the info for one city there is usually a link to more info from that city. All the info is cited with sources. Don't cite that website, cite the sources, there are links and bibliographic info provided. AaronY (talk) 21:46, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you can enable your email that would be great. You would do that in the preferences interface in the top right. Message me when you have done that. AaronY (talk) 21:56, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, email sent. AaronY (talk) 21:11, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fantasia[edit]

Hey there. Thanks in large part to your work, Fantasia (film) has shaped up into a very good article, I think. Have you given any thought to submitting it for peer review to see whether it might be close to or ready for a GA or FA status? Just a thought. Markhh (talk) 07:32, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I think you have been confused by a comments that user "Visokor" sent me under the same heading as yours. I understood what you were talking about and agree. As soon as I have time I'd enjoy listening to the commentaries and taking some notes for use here. Cheers Markhh (talk) 23:03, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot that would be really great! LowSelfEstidle (talk) 23:07, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for your message. I hope you don't mind my tweaks to your latest edits which I think are terrific. (In the Digital Fantasia of the 80s I don't think Taylor appeared at all. There were just brief title cards for each section with the new voiceover comments.) Your research has really brought this article to an excellent place. I agree that its about ready for review. Let me take a closer look this weekend when I have time and see what else might need to be done. Best, Markhh (talk) 06:42, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've just started to go through the article carefully line by line. I made a few edits just to establish themes and clarify things a little. Here are a few thoughts for you. More to come if you want them.

  • Opening section 2nd paragraph: would “Surround Sound” be appropriate to add to Sterophonic sound”? i.e. “in Sterophonic sound and surround sound.”
  • Prior to the last sentence of the opening, it feels like it needs another sentence to establish that it became popular over time. something like “Over time, Fantasia connected with audiences and became a popular hit.” I had added a sentence like this way back but it was deleted as being unsourced. Maybe you have the source for such a statement at your fingertips.
  • Is there any source for how much it has earned in home video sales?
  • In the last paragraph of “Origins” it’s a little confusing that Disney is pursuing Stokowski, but when he contacts Taylor, he is too busy to work on the film. Can this either be fleshed out a little, or maybe just eliminated? Maybe it’s too much detail for this section?

Overall it looks very good. Your last edits really improved things. Best, Markhh (talk) 04:41, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note that at the beginning of "Origins" I changed the date Disney first thought of the film to 1936 because that is what is in the source from the LA Times. If this is wrong please correct it. Thanks, Markhh (talk) 05:33, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Jumping ahead to Home media - Audio: The LP record was not introduced until 1948. If Disney proposed a record release in 1940 it would have been a multi-disc 78rpm record album. But the whole soundtrack would have taken an album of many 78 records, at least 12 or so. That would have been very expensive at the time, although some classical works, like operas were released as very big albums with many records. Best, Markhh (talk) 06:08, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey! Sorry I haven't had time to respond to your other comments, but here's my guess about Fantasia in digital stereo. I would bet that the 1982 version, while recorded digitally was exhibited in analog dolby stereo on prints with standard magnetic audio tracks - like magnetic audio tape only on the edge of the film. The digital master would have been converted to an analog soundtrack on the release prints. Probably no theaters were equipped for digital playback back then. So 1985 was probably the first time it was exhibited with a true digital soundtrack - and even then there were probably not many theatres equipped for that. That's just a guess, but I bet that's the answer. I had never thought about that before. Also re the records, the source about the Phila Orch just says that Disney had considered releasing "records" of the music in 1940, i.e. 78's, before actually releasing the 3-LP set in the late 50s. Makes sense that they would wait till home stereo was a reality to make a home version. More later, best, Markhh (talk) 02:53, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes-related edits[edit]

Why are you moving all the lede prose into the article body itself? And why just the Yes album articles? I don't understand your reasoning and I don't think you understand how Wikipedia articles are meant to be structured. All articles must have a lede which act as a summary of the entire article. Please stop with these edits. LowSelfEstidle (talk) 17:25, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why not? I don't think either you understand how Wikipedia articles are meant to be structured. OK! All articles should have a lede, but a short one! In fact, the "Overview" section acts as a lede to me... Don't you think? Please stop undoing my edits which I think are relevant... HurluGumene (talk) 19:11, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Do you really think your edits were relevant? And besides, how can you make such changes without discussing it on their talk pages? Surely some sort of consensus needs to be agreed upon, no? LowSelfEstidle (talk) 21:11, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Q1: yes!
Q2: very easily!
Q3: are you serious? A consensus for such trivial changes!? Which planet or galaxy are you from?!
HurluGumene (talk) 23:30, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
HurluGumene, Wikipedia does have a manual of style that includes guidance on the WP:lead section of articles. I have reviewed that guidance and it does not appear to me to support your approach of shorter leads and the use of an "Overview" section. Clearly several other editors oppose these edits as well. I suggest the time has come for you to accept these changes are not appropriate. Bondegezou (talk) 09:25, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, good to see somebody else digging out their old Genesis albums and trying to improve some of our articles. I've just done a bit on A Trick of the Tail and Duke, but I haven't done anything on Wind and Wuthering as you seem to have got that fairly well covered, so I'll leave it in your capable hands. Selling England by the Pound is now a good article, and with a bit of work, hopefully some others will be. The main problem I've got is that the only really good source I have is Bowler and Dray's book, while you seem to have back issues of Sounds and various other magazines. Are these old copies stored in the loft, or do you have an online subscription? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:57, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits to Yanni[edit]

I've noticed the large number of changes you've recently made to the Yanni article. Since none of your edits have an edit summary (see Always provide an edit summary), and your individual edits often contain large numbers of unrelated changes, it is extremely difficult for other editors to understand the changes you have made and how they impact the article. It's largely too late now, but in the future please make each edit specific even if it means more edits, and provide a specific edit summary for each. If there is a more general reason you are making a series of edits, please explain on the article's talk page (or here, if appropriate). Thanks. —RCraig09 (talk) 15:03, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Rick Wakeman - Piano Portraits cover.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Rick Wakeman - Piano Portraits cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 19:31, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You have done some nice work on this article. I've reassessed it as a C-class maybe it should even be a B now. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 08:55, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I just added the poster to the infobox and move the existing train image down to the Crewe paragraph but add or move them if you have a better idea. ww2censor (talk) 09:56, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi can you add that £10 million BBC source to Ronnie's Infobox on his Wikipedia page. His career earnings are unsourced at the moment. I don't know how to add it OK?. Regards 92.251.195.40 (talk) 15:54, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Utopia Strong, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Since you did a really great job with the articles on other Genesis albums, would it be possible for you to bring this one up to snuff as well? There's a good amount of sources available on the making of this album, such as the Genesis: Chapter and Verse book, as well as this interview with Tony Banks: http://www.twronline.net/issues/twr35/twr35_tb01.htm.--CherokeeJack1 (talk) 21:59, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Friends and Relatives Vol. 2[edit]

Hello LowSelfEstidle. I am currently disagreeing with User:Laser brain, who has reverted my removal of your adding Yes, Friends and Relatives (Volume Two) to Template:Yes (band). I found Wikipedia:Navigation template, and it states that we should consider writing articles first before adding links to them to navigation templates. Would you please consider making the article so the template does not have a red link? I am not sure how much information you can find, however. The album didn't chart and being one of their more obscure compilation albums probably doesn't have a lot of album reviews in rock publications. 1.43.124.103 (talk) 14:16, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Guy Protheroe has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The only source on this page is an obituary of another person which doesn't even mention Protheroe, and the only sources I could find which did only had passing mentions. I'm surprised to find so little, especially for an article this extensive, but I do not see evidence of notability here.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination of Guy Protheroe for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Guy Protheroe is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Guy Protheroe until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.

Back in 2018 you made this edit to the article Night Mail and the very last paragraph you added refers to the copyright of the W.H. Auden poem for which you did not provide a reference. I know it is quite a few years ago but do you have a suitable citation to add to the article? Otherwise it should be removed as unverified. Thanks and have a happy holiday. ww2censor (talk) 20:38, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
