fake barn stars

Why did you protect instead of ban Harout72? That person gives himself fake barn stars from ip-addresses, and you let him get away with it? I don't care if that was some sort of iranian-armenian alliance, but the actions are clearly in violation of wiki. For all practical purposes, I could slap on any page 10 barn stars, but that would not make them real. Why let him get away with it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.144.179.153 (talk) 14:37, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Two things

May have been an oversight, but this IP never got the block notice. Also, your page says you haven't been active since February! Enigma msg! 20:23, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Yep I accidentally forgot to add it but its pretty much giving the vandal further recognition, which is best to deny at this point. Thanks for letting me know though. Seems the statusbots are lagging at updating my last edit timestamps...grr.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:25, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Vandals

Hi, thanks for the advice. What should I do if I see vandalism besides reverting? Should I report it? Ask for the user to be warned? Thanks. Bardcom (talk) 20:32, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

No problem on the block

I was in a grumpy mood about some other stuff (see the ANI section right below) and intentionally relaxed my response a bit to that one. If someone else viewing it thought that it warranted a block as it stood, that's fine by me. Thanks for the note on my talk page, communications always good. Have a good day! The admin Alison said that these are Beh-nam, not Tajik. Please read the checkuser page more carefully. Checkuser for HamidKarzaiIsATaliban. Merci. Sadozai1 (talk) 00:39, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. However it would be better if you contacted the admin User:Alison since she did the checkuser. Sadozai1 (talk) 00:53, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
What a strange case indeed. But yes, Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Beh-nam had picked this sock up as a sock of Beh-nam, and it certainly showed the usual characteristics of Beh-nam. As they often share the same POV, it can be difficult to distinguish, betimes - Alison 01:06, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

No trouble at all, I had actually meant to increase the block to indef for sockpuppetry, but forgot. :/ Thanks for taking care of that. · AndonicO Hail! 01:13, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Sock Puppet

Hello, I need your opinion on something. An editor who I have recently started helping brought an XFD discussion to me, and believes that the editor is commtting sock puppetry. The evidence is really on my talk page here, the XFD is here, and the suspected sock contributions are here and here, and this is the user who is suspected of sock puppetry [1]. What do you think? Could you put a talkback template on my page? Thanks.

  • Alright I took a look at the matter and I discovered multiple SPAs. I have blocked all and gave a 1 week block to the sockpuppeteer so they would understand that it is inappropriate to use alternative accounts to handle matters like this.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:29, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Taken care of.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:40, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
No, even with all that sockpuppetry, it must finish the duration of the AFD process.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:49, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

A change I made that's been rejected

Hello there,

I tried to make an edit to the page about The Tart newspaper. The name of the sports editor was incorrect but my change was rejected as it was not-relevent and I'm a little insulted.

I wanted to change the name because I am the sports editor, not the guy you've got written on the page and I think that it is very relevent that someone else is taking the credit for my work. So, I ask that this edit be allowed please.

Thank you, Daniel Sung

Advice please

Dear Persian Poet Gal,

You blocked User:Cult free world here for personal attacks. He is at it again with made-up, potentially-libelous posts against myself and another user again, see this. Help and advice would be appreciated. Renee (talk) 19:36, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Sorry that I could not be of much assistance. Too much time has passed and any action taken at this moment would be highlly unfair. Next time however, if I am unable to help you with this issue or you notice inappropriate behavior from Cult free again, try contacting an admin that is active at the moment. I usually check the activity logs and look up admin's names to see who is active.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 21:50, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your response and good luck with school. We're still actively trying to deal with the user here. Wearily yours, Renee Renee (talk) 22:48, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Dear Persian Poet Gal, you blocked me for a notice placed by above user at ANI, initially i was also surprised by her actions, but in due course of time, things have become clear to me, the statement i made was something like mentally unstable, which i regret that i expressed my personal feelings in response to another user's view, that Renee's threat to me, was legal in nature, kindly note that i have tried to avoid every possible means to directly communicate with her, there is not a single note from me, on her talk page, but my talk page is full of warnings after warnings from her, about a subject which doesn't even exist on wikipedia, I am attempting to write an article about a topic which it appears that Renee has close connection with, and she is trying every means possible to prevent that article from getting published, her first and foremost approach was to get me blocked, which i realized after i was actually blocked, we are on wikipedia for improvement and addition's, and not to get people blocked or make personal statements/comments, which i try to avoid to best of my ability, but when i see things like these, i cannot resist but answer. kindly have a look at complete picture. start with these two view's [3] [4], both appear to be admins. --talk-to-me! (talk) 17:44, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
  • My main concern about this issue was the "mentally unstable" remarks and personal attacks. To me this was inappropriate and uncalled for. However, when Reneeholle approached me again, to me the diffs he provided were stale and any action towards you would be highly unfair. I am glad to see that you have mostly staid away from the behavior I mentioned above and you are mostly focusing on creating an article. Reneeholle's concern now seems to be about the current state that this article that you are working on is in; if I interpreted correctly. However, after looking through the history of this situation a bit deeper, its becoming increasingly clear to me that both of you may simply want to avoid further confrontations (as stated by SheffieldSteel and SilkTork, who are not an admins as you said: user rights log1 user rights log2, but make very valid points that I pretty much agree with). My personal opinion as far as your progress on the current user space article is that you are not exactly editing it disruptively but you may want to whip it into shape if you are adamant about getting it into Wiki space (the tone of the writing has noticeable NPOV and OR issues). I am starting to realize this matter isn't just about personal attacks anymore but some conflicts of interest on both sides. Just to let you know, I'm going to leave a message on Reneeholle's talk page so she is aware of what I have stated here. As I said a bit earlier though, maybe its time to let the conflicts between the two of you pass. The Mfd is starting to turn into an Rfc on yourself and Reneeholle rather than a nomination for userspace deletion.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:01, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

I am glad to read your response :) --talk-to-me! (talk) 19:09, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the carefully thought-out response. Renee (talk) 20:02, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

I wonder how you take statements like these where one of the user is calling other user (most probably me) a PIG. All this is for a temp page article translated from french wikipedia. What can be done about such people ? --talk-to-me! (talk) 09:45, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Age of Conversation Book Page Deletion

Hello,

I put a lot of work into that page and I'm wondering if it can be recovered and edited. I'm more than willing to make the necessary changes to the first paragraph where the most offending text most likely is. However, there is a second volume with over 200 Authors in the works right now. So there will be more interest going forward.

Can you possibly restore the page to allow me to edit it?

If it can't be restored can you capture the wiki code so I can recreate it and work on the editing offline?

Thanks, Chris

Thank you so much for your patience and help. I've not done a Wikipedia in over a year and I forgot more than I should have. I've made the last list of changes you suggested. If you could move it to the Articles section now I will be very happy. And what's more I promise to add more to the entry asap. I need to confer with about 100 people so it may take a little time... Mentorship

Well, I am currently on editor review. Check out the editor review sticker on my userpage. Two months sounds like a lot better deal then six months, but I still am anxious and excited to get this going. Getting blocked has so much disadvantages. I asked for a rollback, and I had to wait one month. But they said it wasn't because of me, just my block, and that they will give it to me after one month of good behavior. I can do that easily, but waiting for a mentorship--well, its just so exciting. I am very, very eager. Thank you very much for the support.

Nothing444 22:27, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the smile. Well, it seems Philippe drew that number from this page. So you are probably going to have to wait six months (I wasn't aware when I commented). Keep up the productive editing however, the editor review is a good idea to help you discover areas that you can improve on. I'll see if I can leave a review some soon.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 22:34, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Your userpage has a technical issue...

I was going to ask you something about an AfD you closed, but when I got here I noticed you had this giant status bar that said you hadn't been online since 2/29/08, so i figured fixing that was probably more important. MSJapan (talk) 00:03, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Well I'm well aware that the date hasn't updated :P...its a issue with one of the user status bots. Anyways...that's really odd. I don't see any problem with the size. But what did you want to ask about an Afd I closed?¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 00:06, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
It was the lack of updating, not the size, that I noticed. What I wanted to ask was what happened to the 2nd AFD details, because both listings were linked to the same earlier discussion in the template you added. So, I simply changed the type of AfD template to afdmulti and fixed the links.MSJapan (talk) 00:52, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry that was a bit of miscoding. Thanks for fixing that!¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 00:55, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

Well, I though the step before adoption would be teaching at RyRy5's adoption centre. Why, is that not step one? P.S. if you really want that quote off, I'll take it off immediatly. Nothing444 22:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually, this is a legit MediaWiki bug. Whenever a page is protected, it effectively knocks the page from watchlists. I'd assume that was the culprit, though the heavy database lag probably had a hand in it as well. EVula // talk // // 02:19, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh. That's the first time that has happend to me; the page was protected yesterday (the 'no report' attack) and nothing happened. Was it full protected or just semi? Don't worry, I understand. The April Fools mayhem can get out of hand, and it makes total sense that an edit to MediaWiki space today gets reverted by accident in the quest to fix a prank. :) Nihiltres{t.l} 22:41, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello Persian Poet gal, just dropping by wishing you all the best in your endeavours on wikipedia. Came by your page basically by luck and i was so fascinated i wanted to send you a note. Since this is the internet and you live in USA and im a long way way away theres no probs we'll bump into each other. Its funny with the internet though, you can write anything you want and people just have to trust you that you are what you say you are. You might be a 100 yr old Chinese man. Hey, you never know!

But since your busy with school work im assuming your a tad younger:) And a lot more good looking:) Keep up the great work, its been a pleasure to write to you!

I suggest using somebody elses talk page for your comments

Thank you

Hello - I just thought I'd say thank you for very speedily reverting the redirects for the 101 Dalmatians related articles. I was looking through the recent changes page at the time and was just about to make the reverts myself but you just pipped me to it! Howie 02:22, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I like you

I logged out of my account to write this because i dont want you to know who i am. I love all the stuff you have done on wikipedia and i have a suggestion. Why dont you place a picture of yourself on your page instead of your cat and then i bet no one will ever vandalize your page again. You know what i mean? You know what i mean? Yeah you do, do you have myspace or facebook? I want to really know if your as wanted as all your many fans make out. I bet if u have a bf, he sees your page he will be pretty jealous. Then again you might be a guy. Thats the beauty of the net 220.239.55.213 (talk) 07:19, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I understand what you said at my admin coaching page.

  1. I was tagging many articles for deletion today than normal. Sometimes it is hard to decide what tags to add if they do need deletion. I will slow down on deletion tags.
  2. I will try to stop making so manny WikiGnome edits. I didn't know that someone was talking, therefor, I rm the quotes. I will watch my edits more carefully from now on.
  3. I do understand the deletion policy. I will stop saying "per nom" to often.
  4. I am a little enthusiastic sometimes. Also, I am only trying to have 1 adoptee at the moment. And back then, I didn't know that it was bad to canvass and ask for barnstar, but I have learned from all that.

I hope you can understand. I will try to slow down on my editing. Cheers.--RyRy5 Got something to say? 01:32, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Oh!

I forgot to thank you for not blocking me for edit warring..:) Otherwise I would have been able to go back to my normal life and not spend morning to night potroling Wikipedia from systematic bias and vandalism! Well maybe he can go to BEANS or some other place and find a cranky admin like User:Barneca who blocks on site! Cheers, Igor Berger (talk) 01:44, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

I looked closely at his edits and he is okay, just does not cite sources sometimes. Thinks he is an authority..:) I left him a nice note. Thanks for the help...no need of wikidrama! Igor Berger (talk) 02:31, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Pronunciation of Shiraz

Dear Persian Poet Gal, I just listened to the pronunciation of "Shiraz" and should like to mention that it does not conform with the pronunciation that I am familiar with; it is too stretched. You may wish to seek the advice of others on this, as I may have erred in my judgement. Kind regards, --BF 23:46, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Dear Persian Poet Gal, I believe that there are several things that contribute to the pronunciation sounding unfamiliar to my ears. Firstly, your "r" sounds like an English, or even a French, "r" and not like a Farsi "r": your tongue rolls, instead of vibrating at its tip. Secondly, the space in time that the pronunciation takes it too wide; I believe that this is largely due to stretching "a" (phonetically "ā") too much. Lastly, but about this I am not as certain, there is something about the way the "Sh" is pronounced; it is perhaps a little bit too mellow or rich. I believe that pronouncing "Shiraz" in isolation from other words is inherently a difficult task — this may apply to all words, exactly like the difficulty which is inherent in playing the opening movement of any musical piece (one's nerves stand under pressure). With kind regards, --BF 00:15, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Dear Persian Poet Gal, you are most welcome. Please be advised that I may not have been correct in my judgement. Kind regards, --BF 00:34, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Rangeblocked

Done both - I've also done 64.107.220.0/24 as that appears to be his other common range. Black Kite 22:46, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Was that a mistake? The way I read it, I issued a final warning after the user's last edit, User: Hoary amplified it, then you blocked the user after user had ceased being active. The user had no edits after final warning. 24.4.98.230 (talk) 00:30, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm fine with leaving it, as long as it was intentional. Cheers. Toddst1 (talk) 00:34, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Personally I agree that the three dimwit edits in fast succession are enough to block, but WP policy would I think disagree. The IP got a warning, then there was an edit clash in which he (I always think of these people as male) got two final warnings, then he made no edits, then he got blocked all the same. This, combined with your stated willingness to have the block undone, impels me to unblock him. (Just wait a few minutes.) I do this with no enthusiasm and certainly wouldn't object to a speedy block after any further stupidity on his part. -- Hoary (talk) 03:47, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Rollback power

Hello.

I noticed you seen my comment on the admin notice board and I was wondering do you know how long it may take before I get accepted or rejected for roll back power. I've been watching the recent changes page and have seen some cases of vandalism which I am keen to undo. Thanks--Energizer07 (talk) 00:45, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

That was probably just a repost, right? No need to let the police know about it again? If you think otherwise, I've got their number handy. Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:03, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok. I've been refreshing the page every few minutes to make sure nothing new gets added, same as you, it seems. If any new information regarding the threat itself, I can make the call. Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:09, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
I went ahead and protected the page for the rest of the day. It has gotten to the point that people (or the one person) is just doing it for fun, the authorities have been notified, and now its time to apply WP:DENY. Thanks for your great work today by the way! Tiptoety talk 02:35, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Re:ANI RyRy5

hiya پارسی I just thought that the rant was inappropriate for Ryan to have to consider. It has a place on AN/I because a lot of other editors are concerned about him. As far as I am concerned the post to his page was not nice and I would have liked somebody to jump to Ryans defence for once. He is a sugar full editor at the moment but I don't think that he has to bow down to every editor for trying to be bold. The particular message strikes me as bullying. Do you not agree? -- BpEps - t@lk 03:19, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

212.107.116.240

This IP address has made a significant amount of disruptive posts over the course of more than a year, and has incurred a good deal of warnings. However, there have also been a number of seemingly positive edits, so this may in fact just be a dynamic/PPPoE ADSL IP. A Google sarch also yields 2,640 results for this IP, some of which even reveal it to be a source of serious mass-spam.

Potentially constructive edits:
Nakhuda (diff)
Dagupan City (diff), (diff 2)
Manila Science High School (diff)
List of male performers in gay porn films (diff)
G-string (diff)
Censorship in Saudi Arabia (diff)
"Sandbox" style edits:
Khaled Aziz (diff)
Mumtaz Bhutto (diff 1), (diff 2), (diff 3)
Barisal Airport (diff)
List_of_assault_rifles (diff)
Disruptive edits:
Treasure map (diff)
Al Rashid (diff 1), (diff 2)
Talk:Puta (diff)
Nandamuri Balakrishna (diff 1), (diff 2)
Nudity (diff)
Wembley Arena (diff)
G-spot (diff)
Sudan (diff 1), (diff 2), (diff 3)
Ginger (diff)
Other/unknown intent:
Nandamuri Balakrishna (diff)

January 2008 - Present

Seeing as there are some productive edits coming from this IP, it does not seem necessary that it be blocked entirely. But given the prolonged nature of this vandalism, it only seems appropriate that some sort of preventative measure be taken. I'd like to request a soft-block on 212.107.116.240 if you also think that it would be appropriate.   — C M B J   08:51, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello!

You recently blocked Bobstablesmock (talk · contribs) for 24 hours. This account was created today and within the first 6 minutes of the account's creation the editor made 6 edits, all of them non-constructive. Since this isn't an IP that could be shared by multiple people but rather an account created specifically and intentionally for the purpose of vandalism, would you maybe consider blocking it a little longer?
