Speedy deletion nomination of Ebola virus epidemic in Liberia
[edit]Hello Starstr,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Ebola virus epidemic in Liberia for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, [[{{{article}}}]].
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

- It was deleted before I could get to it. The whole article was new so I don't know why they used that criteria, and it avoided having a discussion. I think its fine now though. Thanks for stopping by. Starstr (talk) 17:12, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

HI Starstr i temporary restored the main page "Ebola_virus_epidemic_in_West_Africa#Liberia" till this issue is resolved. Personally i don't see a reason for this deletion. BrianGroen (talk) 18:17, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I don't either and it really does not seem to meet the criteria he is saying. Starstr (talk) 18:31, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
- restored the link on main article...just a small note we need to align the article so i'm not going to interfere in this one. But Liberia's core in the main is about as minimal as we can get. I will remove section that are here.. GreetingsBrianGroen (talk) 19:05, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
Ebola virus epidemic in Liberia
[edit]Hi Star,
I asked an admin who is an expert on copy vio here on WP. Since you took material from Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa to create the Ebola in Liberia page, follow these directions here. There shouldn't be any problem with getting tagged for deletion once you've done this. Great job, btw. SW3 5DL (talk) 22:31, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
- Well it started as independent, but now it has stuff moved from that page and people copied everything from the new page back to the main article. Starstr (talk) 22:47, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
Just a note the particular section i added back on was the original copy from the main. It was not copied from yours but just moved back. Please abide by the rules. BrianGroen (talk) 06:26, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Nigeria move
[edit]HI Starstr just because a spin off article gas been created does not mean you can delete it from the main article. First get consensus before doing this. BrianGroen (talk) 06:09, 1 October 2014 (UTC) Just a friendly note this is grounds for a possible user block or vandalism report but i will not do it since you are new to wiki..BrianGroen (talk) 06:12, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
And also as a spin off it may not be a direct copy of the main article so please edit your article to avoid a deletion of your page.BrianGroen (talk) 06:23, 1 October 2014 (UTC)i.e add more content on this page... and a lead etc like you did with liberia..BrianGroen (talk) 06:49, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Group consensus
[edit]Since you are new perhaps you do not realize that major decisions such as splitting an article are always done by group consensus. Please use the talk page to discuss any major changes to the article in the future and only then, if you find that the group is in agreement, should you make any major changes to any Wikipedia article. Gandydancer (talk) 10:52, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- The article wasn't split, Gandy. Your article has not been affected in any way. A separate article on a country in this epidemic is not only appropriate and necessary, but there's no need to obtain consensus from editors on a related page who have only given short summaries on individual countries. SW3 5DL (talk) 15:05, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- Gandy is making a good point. Being WP:BOLD is important - we need people to take initiative or nothing would ever happen here - but WP:CONSENSUS is equally as important. As editors, we have a responsibility to edit the encyclopedia overall; too many times editors focus on just one article and neglect related ones, and we end up with a suite of related articles that are out of sync and tell different and sometimes contradictory stories. This is a real disservice to our readers. It is better, when creating articles that are clearly subtopics of broader articles, to do that thoughtfully and in dialogue with folks working on the topic. Jytdog (talk) 15:18, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- I will say this again. Nothing was split from Gandy's article. There were only summaries on her article. Read what other editors have written before you reply to their comments. SW3 5DL (talk) 15:31, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- please comment on content, not contributor. please do not call an article "your" article as it implies WP:OWN. Setting up a subarticle is something that needs to be done with care and thought so that the editors working on the topic can keep everything aligned. btw the relevant guideance articles are WP:SPLIT and WP:SUMMARY. [edit]Your recent editing history at 2014 Ebola virus epidemic in Guinea shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 13:44, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- Pot meet Kettle. A small sample from the last 12 hours. section blanked here and section blanked here and section blanked here. Also, don't bit the newbie, and one who is working hard to improve articles. He probably doesn't know about the three revert rule, like you do. SW3 5DL (talk) 16:07, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
Starstr, there's a rule here about how many times you can revert in 24 hours. Reverts on the same page, all in a row, without any intervening edits by others, equals one revert. You get up to 3. However, some administrators will block if they see repeated reverts even without 3 rr, that are occurring with other editors also reverting you. This is because edit wars are disruptive to the project. They are a real time-sink. Some editors engage in them just for that reason. Like when they blank/redirect articles, and blank whole sections on articles without first discussing on the talk page. Also, see WP:BOLD. If you come to an article and delete or add material, you can be reverted and then must discuss on the talk page. Some editors read that the wrong way and think the opposite. They think the extant material on the article represents bold already, and that they are reverting. That's not how it works. SW3 5DL (talk) 16:07, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Not appropriate

- Whats not appropriate is how you and others on this page have treated other editors. Asking me to recant my view of the situation only confirms how far your willing to go. I can only hope we have more editors like SW3 5DL on these page, ones that are willing to confront this kind of behavior. Starstr (talk) 17:20, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- Starstr, (e/c). I can see what you mean. In this case, a good policy is to always comment on the comment and not the editor who made it. Everybody does it at sometime, even admins, because discussions can become heated, and editors get frustrated. But in general, it's to be avoided. Most admins won't block for incivility. But if the comments are serious enough, as explained in this policy, you can be blocked. As for the comments Doc James is objecting to, it would be better for you to go back and strike all or part of your comment. You can also change the section title to something generic. That's allowed. On the comment itself, usually it's a strike out,
like this. Doing this is also part of assuming good faith. You are assuming that the other editors mean well, just as we can assume that you meant no harm when you said that. SW3 5DL (talk) 17:42, 3 October 2014 (UTC)- Well if you both agree I certainly don't want to be rude. Starstr (talk) 17:44, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- Well done, you. And yes, you're right, there are editors who cluster who do things they shouldn't. That's why always commenting on the comment is best. It makes sure you don't end up looking just like them, and worse, getting blocked while they sail away. You know the saying, "Never argue with a fool, people might not know the difference?" Ebola edits
[edit]Today you created a new section titled "Additional problems" and added a couple of sentences about a few Nigerians that died from drinking salt water, thinking it was a cure. I have removed this information from the Nigeria article several times already, and it certainly should not have been returned with its own header. You also changed the heading "Countries with local transmission" to (something like) "Countries with former transmission". We are using the terminology that the WHO uses. Please become more familiar with WP guidelines before you do anymore major editing or OK your suggestions on the talk page first. Thanks. Gandydancer (talk) 17:47, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- I don't agree with you removing the Nigerian deaths. I can understand why you did not want them on the Nigerian Ebola page (currently re-directed) and but I don't know who added them back there. If you don't think they belong on the West Africa page, where can we put this information? Starstr (talk) 17:51, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- You could start a discussion to ask other editors if they think it is important enough for the article. Gandydancer (talk) 17:53, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Ebola virus and soccer
[edit]The article Ebola virus and soccer has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- The Ebola epidemic and it's affect on association football may not warrant a separate article. Ebola affected many events, not just football. Instead, we can merge what little information we have into their respective articles, Africa Cup of Nations, Club World Cup and Football in Sierra Leone.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — MusikAnimal talk 18:17, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi. You just reverted a bunch of edits to the Ebola virus disease in the United Kingdom without giving any justification for the edit. In doing so, you both removed useful material, and also re-added material that had been removed because it was not supported by the citation given. Please can you break your edits down to a finer granularity, and provide reasons for them in your edit comments? -- The Anome (talk) 19:07, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
- No it was just one small edit. The problem was people are adding stuff so quickly the small change was based on the old version. Thank you for reverting it actually, I went back in made my small change now. Starstr (talk) 19:09, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Extraneous prediction removed
[edit]I've removed the following text from the Ebola virus disease in the United Kingdom article:
- In October 2014, the United Kingdom was rated as the 6th most likely country to have an imported Ebola case.[1]
While this might have been relevant in October, it's no longer relevant today. The actual case of an imported infection constitutes facts on the ground, and makes such speculation completely irrelevant: the post facto probability turned out to be 1, and any considerations of "forward looking" probability are only worth considering from a philosophical basis, if at all. As the guidelines say, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, and it's certainly not a retroactive crystal ball. -- Impsswoon (talk) 19:40, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
