Women in Red are hosting a virtual editathon from 1 to 31 December 2017 on Go local!. In lieu of a geographical focus for the month, we simply encourage you to create or improve articles on women who come from the area where you live or from the place where you were born or have spent some time. You are free to include women past and present from any walk of life or occupation. You can also write about women's works and organizations, or their significant involvement in the local community.
The virtual edit-a-thon allows enthusiasts from around the globe to participate in the work.
- The lists of redlinks below should provide inspiration.
- This essay on creating women's biographies might be helpful to newer editors.
- The main goals of the event are:
- to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of some of the world's most prominent women
- to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on a specific area
- to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
- to promote the new/improved articles and images through social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter)
