Plasnewydd

[edit]

Hi, thanks for spotting my factual error regarding Plasnewydd as community vs. electoral ward. However, I think in that case the sentence needs a better reference, as the Wales Online story (also referenced elsewhere on Wikipedia) is about proposals to make a change, rather than the change actually taking place. I can't easily find such a reference online - any suggestions? Martpol (talk) 13:29, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's harder to prove something doesn't exist than prove it exists. Maybe a citation to Ordnance Survey Election Maps would help? Sionk (talk) 15:05, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

San Clemente Literary Prize

[edit]

In the article I did about the San Clemente Literary Prize (moved to 'draft' by you some moths ago) you comment "Surely if it is existed for 24 years there must be more than 2 news articles about it?". There are more than 2 linked articles, and they are not from blogs, but from one of the largest private foundations in Galicia, from two newspapers (one of them is the largest read in Galicia and the other the largest published in Santiago de Compostela, the capital of the Autonomous Community of Galicia), and from the official website itself. There are photos, the winners are linked, etc. I don't understand the criteria to reject the page. What is the problem? You don't think the prize exists or you don't think that the highest prize in Galicia awarded by underage readers, and one of the largest in the Iberian Peninsula, has enough "entity" to have a page on Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gasparoff (talkcontribs) 19:45, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

District Council Election results

[edit]

Thanks for entering some of the results for South Oxfordshire & Cherwell (and others?). I spotted & fixed an error for Peter Dragonetti, South Oxfordshire Kidmore End, and provided data for Didcot South, but as a newbie, didn't know how to re-order by votes cast, or make bold, so left it at that. Do you have a slick process for getting the results into the appropriate format? If so, we may be able to collaborate. I have a spreadsheet of results with ward, party, candidate, votes, vote share (adjusted for the number of votes allowed - so for Didcot South, with 3 votes allowed, the share should add to close to 300%). HenleyMan (talk) 13:13, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There's no slick or clever way of inputting the info ...well, none that I'm aware of, other than copy-and-paste. The successful candidates will get 'bolded' if you add the word "winning" into the table template. So rather than "{{Election box candidate with party link" the template would begin "{{Election box winning candidate with party link". I'd suggest using the "Show preview" button before saving what you add. Sionk (talk) 18:18, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
thanks sionk, although preview doesn't show me how to get what I want, just that what I've entered isn't quite right. HenleyMan (talk) 23:36, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 23:46:14, 29 May 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by 73.89.211.188

[edit]

I have revised this multiple times, adding in relevant citations that include coverage by the NY Times

This is NOT "a genealogical piece," as noted by one reviewer. Moreover, the subject meets the notability guidelines and is supported by solid citations.

IMO, this is worthy of being added and should be approved without further delay.

Thank you

73.89.211.188 (talk) 23:46, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

We cannot list all writers, only notable ones. What is Rigby's claim to notability? I suppose the reviews in the NYT suggest one or more of his works may have been widely reviewed, but only one review is cited at the moment. Sionk (talk) 12:56, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Junior Eurovision song contest 2023

[edit]

Hello, I wanted to know the reason for your rejection of the article, and I hope that you will return the article instead of deleting it. Thank you هشام محمود حسونة (talk) 15:49, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I gave my reason when I rejected the article - it's not notable outside of the JESC (and sources closely related to Eurovision) at the moment. The article was returned originally to draft space because it was too soon before the event (and there was no wider interest from non-Eurovision publications). Judging by the lack of independent sources, it's still too soon, in my view. I could reject it again, but I'll leave it for another Articles for Creation editor to look at. Sionk (talk) 16:44, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think your reasons are not convincing, such as creating the draft too early for the event. This is not the first time an article has been created on JESC
I believe that anyone's duty is to fix and improve the article, not to delete it and leave it to another editor. Because of your action, readers will not be able to know the competition's developments. هشام محمود حسونة (talk) 16:54, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There aren't sufficient independent news sources to improve the article at the moment. Well, none that I can find. Little has been done to improve the article and take on board the reviewer's advice, since April. Wikipedia isn't here to advertise future events. Sionk (talk) 18:15, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly do you mean by independent sources? You mentioned Eurovoix as a news source but there are other ESC-focused sources cited (such as EurofestivalES and ESCPlus, which are Spanish Eurovision news sites) and several publications from either news media based in the broadcasters' countries or from the broadcasters themselves (i.e. Avondhu Newspaper for Ireland, TVM News for Malta, NPO Zapp for The Netherlands). Many of those other countries' news outlets are focused on far more than just Eurovision if that's what you're getting at. Also, how is it too soon for JESC's article when the contest is in November, yet the Eurovision 2024 article is already up despite the contest being almost a full year away?
(Really not trying to be argumentative, rather just trying to understand). 68.132.63.117 (talk) 06:46, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Eurovision Song Contest is considerably better known than the Junior version, it's not surprising it gets far more discussion and news coverage well in advance. Sionk (talk) 10:23, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You think it's still too early to talk about JESC It means that you have to return the article in September, then it will not be too early to talk about the contest or maybe in August هشام محمود حسونة (talk) 14:08, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ffotogallery‎ category

[edit]

Hi. Re. Ffotogallery‎, I restored "Category:Photography museums and galleries in Wales". If you look at its web site it prominently describes exhibitions that appear to be at Ffotogallery‎ and not at Turner House Gallery. -Lopifalko (talk) 12:09, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Article is about the organisation, not about a particular gallery or exhibition. Sionk (talk) 12:31, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Look here, scroll down to "Gallery: Installation Shots" for photographs of their extensive gallery. See also their web site's menu option What's on: Exhibition. An establishment such as this can be both an arts agency and a photography gallery. Or am I missing something? -Lopifalko (talk) 15:22, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's an organisation that often runs, or has access to, an exhibition space/gallery. Hence the opening sentence says it "is the national development agency for photography in Wales". I doubt it's current gallery in Cathays would be notable enough for it's own article. Sionk (talk) 18:32, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sionk:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1100 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:35, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article in New Vision is not about Hassan Shire. The article in The Independendent newspaper is written by Hassan Shire, so neither of them count towards his notability. Sionk (talk) 11:28, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New pages patrol invitation

[edit]
Hello, Sionk.
  • The new pages patrol team is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles and redirects needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • I believe that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hi Sionk. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. – Joe (talk) 22:11, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

James Mason (wrestler)

[edit]

Hi

I have been searching for sources for this subject, the article for which you succesfully proposed for deletion and have found the following multiple independent reliable sources:

In light of these five, plus the existing RIS in Simon Garfield's The Wrestling as you mentioned in the debate makes six, I would suggest that this subject easily passes WP:GNG for multiple reliable indepdndent sources and the article should be restored.
I am tagging HHH Pedrigree, Oaktree b and ArcAngel who all participated in the original debate and Liz who closed the original debate as Delete. Romomusicfan (talk) 13:36, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Romomusicfan, most of these are brief mentions in relation to events he was taking part in, though the Oxford Mail article gives a little info about his family and home location. The NorthWales.com article is a little stronger, though this isn't a major news site by any means. Maybe the closing admin, Liz, can advise you about where to go from here. Sionk (talk) 15:21, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well so far that's BBC News (main photo and three paras), Oxford Mail (greater depth on Mason's background and philosophy on wrestling) and a chapter in Simon Garfield's book still left, and three is "multiple" enough for GNG (and similar rules in SNGs). Romomusicfan (talk) 16:52, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No response from any of them thus far. Romomusicfan (talk) 10:45, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I Would like to work on this in my Sandbox

[edit]

Hi Sionk, are you able to retrieve the script for the last (pre-deletion) version of the James Mason (wrestler) page so that I can work outside of article space on getting it into a condition where it clearly and undeniably passes GNG? If so, please paste it into my sandbox. If not, who can I contact about this? Romomusicfan (talk) 16:52, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since I never got a reply for this, I have copied the entry on Everybodywiki (a mirror of the page as it was in late 2023) to my sandbox and will be working to incorporate the above sources so the article can be republished.Romomusicfan (talk) 10:59, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

[edit]

Hello Sionk,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Hello Sionk, in awe of your work on Wikipedia...

[edit]

Hello Sionk,

I hope this post find you well and in good spirits.

I am working, among other articles on Lebanon's cultural and natural heritage, on a page for Charles Corm II. I saw you commented on the Charles Corm page a few years ago and really liked your editorial stance. despite some contributors publicly attacking you for it. I guess you cannot please everybody.

I would love to get your feedback on whether the Charles Corm II page is good and would be considered for Publication on Wikipedia before I go on and submit it for Publication.

If you have a few free minutes, please let me know your thoughts.

Lots of respect and kind regards.

Caliban31 (talk) 08:26, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for your message. I think you would have difficulty getting your Draft:Charles Corm II accepted at the moment. You give the impression most of the citations are about his business, or his grandfather. The books you cite are available online, so I would stringly suggest you cite the page number(s) where the information about Corm II can be found (I did a Google search of The Big Tech Score book, for example, and couldn't find a mention). Charles Corm II will need to meet WP:GNG criteria and have several examples of substantial coverage about him in reliable sources e.g. journalistic news articles or books Sionk (talk) 12:31, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for your educated and prompt response. I will of course take all this into consideration. Regards Caliban31 (talk) 12:40, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to restore the Connected Contributor tag that this edit of yours seems to have removed from this article talk page, I'm guessing it was an automated tools error. But if it was intentional or if you have any other objections, please say. --GRuban (talk) 12:49, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Be my guest. I think it was something that happened during the automated acceptance from AfC. Sionk (talk) 13:58, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MJP DYK

[edit]

Thanks for your comment on the DYK nomination page for Mary Jane Patterson. I have followed your suggestion. Can't think how I missed that! Balance person (talk) 08:23, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jo Lindner

[edit]

And his German twins. Thank you so much for bringing the text online in the past in English. I translated the text into German but accidentally created two versions.. [6]https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_„Jo”_Lindner and [7]https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_"Jo"_Lindner Could you by any chance remove the latter? Very grateful for all your support! It would be best to ask an administrator on de.wikipedia. Unfortunately I don't have the tools to delete pages, here or anywhere else. Sionk (talk) 17:40, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for South West Norfolk in the 2024 United Kingdom general election

[edit]

On 27 August 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article South West Norfolk in the 2024 United Kingdom general election, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that by losing her constituency of South West Norfolk in 2024, Liz Truss became the first former UK prime minister since 1935 to lose their seat? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/South West Norfolk in the 2024 United Kingdom general election. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, South West Norfolk in the 2024 United Kingdom general election), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK needing approval

[edit]

Hi Sionk. I helped Balance person with their first DYK and noticed that a recent one for Mary Jane Patterson seems to be stalled and may time out. I'm resonably experienced at DYK and the alt0b hook there looks fine. Given your recent comment and the fact that you were first to pick up that DYK nomination for review, is there any reason why you can't just approve it now? I know that other editors have made comments but none look like show-stoppers. Any further issues could be handled between approval and the DYK reaching the mainpage. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:47, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've already approved it twice. Sionk (talk) 10:54, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies! I thought it was still in WP:DYK but I now see it's in WP:DYKNA. My bad! Thanks for your work there. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:59, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
