Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello DeAllenWeten, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Music and speech have been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 06:16, 24 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not only was this recreation of a deleted article after an afd with no rs whatsoever but also a blpvio linking a real life identity to a porn star with no sourcing. I therefore removed the article. This subject area seems off your usual area, is there a reason why you created it without any proper sources or claim to notability? Spartaz Humbug! 20:35, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article 2017 Weis Markets shooting has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable (but sadly tragic) event per NEVENT guidelines. Coverage is restricted to local outlets and the period immediately following the event.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I appreciate your thoughts. I was aware of the local media attention and the lack of international/national media. However this event occurred in a location in Pennsylvania where guns are prominent and can easily be found. This event triggered a gun-violence debate in the region and is extremely relevant in the minds of the residents of Pennsylvania, Southern New York, and Western New Jersey. I will be adding more material and will hopefully be enough to save the page from deletion as it may become relevant in the coming years.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Northumberland County Airport requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of IPT135[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on IPT135 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on UPS Airlines Flight 1307 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.tailstrike.com/070206.htm and https://www.ntsb.gov/investigations/AccidentReports/Reports/AAR0707.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello DeAllenWeten, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to UPS Airlines Flight 1307 have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

(There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article.
If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. Disambiguation link notification for January 21[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Joel Embiid, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page NBPA (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:25, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ben Simmons[edit]

There is no need for a triple doubles list, and it is unprecedented. A mere citation link in the prose to basketball-reference (like at Russell Westbrook#Player profile) is sufficient. See here for a list of Simmons' TDs. DaHuzyBru (talk) 15:11, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Thomas Embiid[edit]

Hello, DeAllenWeten,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Thomas Embiid should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thomas Embiid .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

Sources[edit]

Hello, can you please add your sources to Ted Unkel? It is in danger of deletion at the moment, as an unreferenced biography of a living person. External links just means 'suggestions for further reading', not sources used, and biographies of living people need WP:INLINECITED sources. You have been contacted many times by different editors about not sourcing articles well; please try to improve this, it is adding to others' workloads. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 08:23, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please respond? WP:Communication is required on Wikipedia. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 08:16, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Again, please respond. See WP:BURDEN, WP:V and WP:Communication is required. Boleyn (talk) 14:34, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have sent you seven messages about creating articles with huge issues, mainly being unreferenced. You've not only ignored the messages, you have continued to create unreferneced articles like 2018 PSAC Football Championship Game. You have been directed to WP:Communication is required, WP:V and WP:BURDEN. Notification[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is User:DeAllenWeten. GMGtalk 23:58, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DeAllenWeten. Following the concern raised at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, I have looked into your edits, and note that the majority of your edits are fine. Sometimes there are minor errors, such as categories not being put on new articles, or sourcing being a bit weak. But such errors are not uncommon, and even very experienced users will make such edits now and again. I do note that some of these errors have been pointed out to you. This is part of what happens on Wikipedia when someone is creating new articles. Because we've had problems in the past with lots of unsourced articles being created, and it takes time to research into facts to find out if information is accurate, we prefer all new articles to be appropriately sourced - that is why other users get in touch with you. It's not to complain, but simply to let you know how we edit Wikipedia these days. The community generally expects that when editing errors are pointed out, that users take note, and either improve or respond. Sometimes users don't understand, or simply need more information, so it's expected that they ask, rather than continue to make the same mistakes. This is not a formal warning or anything like that - just a friendly note to thank you for your contributions, to underline that people have some concerns about your lack of response, and to offer assistance if you need it. I will watch your talkpage for a week, so if you have any questions in that time you can leave them here and I will see them. After a week, if you have problems, then you'll need to speak to me on my talkpage. Regards, SilkTork (talk) 10:38, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

March 2018[edit]

Blocked[edit]

Hello, I have blocked your account indefinitely for two reasons. The first is your complete failure to communicate. The second is your failure to cite sources in spite of a final warning. Please take this time to review WP:COMMUNICATE, WP:V, and WP:RS. If you think you can abide by them, please review the guide to appealing blocks for specific instructions on how to submit a successful unblock request. You can get unblocked whenever you want. But you absolutely need to address these issues. Swarm 20:13, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Star Air (India) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Star Air (India), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the confirms on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ted Unkel, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Star Air (India), a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:22, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Star Air (India)[edit]

Hello, DeAllenWeten. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Star Air".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! Bkissin (talk) 20:22, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Georges Blind has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Cannot find significant coverage of this person. Virtually all coverage is about a 1944 photograph, known as "fusillé souriant"—there is one RS article about the photograph [1], and one brief news announcement of a commemoration without any coverage of his life [2]. Everything else that I've been able to find is non-RS (blogs, self published book, and other SPS), copied from a blog, or only passing mention.
