The 40th century of the anno Domini (common) era will span the years 3901–4000 of the Gregorian calendar. It will be the tenth and last century of the 4th millennium.
Predicted and scheduled events
- August 27, 3982: Mercury occults Regulus.[1][2][3][4]
- 4000 AD: The field of computer science may have reached its full potential, with all hardware and software being largely perfected.[5]
Fiction
- When calculating the year in the game with the beginning of NC, in the game EV Nova, the year is 3955 (It could be possible that the date of the game was influenced by the Planet of the Apes film series).
- Tribes 2, while mainly set in 3941, its training missions take place from 3944 to 3950.
- The film Planet of the Apes is set in the year 3978, while its first sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, is set in the year 3955. At the conclusion of that film, a cobalt bomb detonation incinerates the Earth. It is possible that the first film occurs in an alternate timeline to the subsequent four.
- In the Challenge of the Superfriends episode Conquers of the Future, the Legion of Doom travels forward in time from the 20th century to the year 3984. Before being defeated by the Superfriends, the Legion of Doom is able to conquer not only Earth, but the entire Milky Way Galaxy as well.
- The year 4000 is the time for the classic comic book Magnus, Robot Fighter created by Russ Manning. In this series, all of North America has become a single great city named North Am, with buildings commonly reaching a mile (1.6 km) in height.
- The events in the cartoon series Thundarr the Barbarian take place in the year 3994.
- In the Doctor Who series, the Daleks conspire to conquer the Solar System in the year 4000.
