How to recruit writers for these projects?

Thanks for the suggestion. I think your olympic article looks A-Class to me, but I'd appreciate some expert opinion on that! Junior sports

Hey, I was writing Youth Girls Competition (a junior women's Australian Rules league) and I couldn't find any decent category to cover it as a junior league, in fact the only decent category I could find was Category:Children's sport!! Seems a bit weird. The page mentioned above was created by me in relation to Police Rugby League in the state of Victoria. It appears to be the only one of its kind on the site and refers to a notable club and organisation helping pave the way for rugby league in this state. It was deleted but has had appropriate changes made to it. Any advice or assistance would be appreciated as I am new to this site and would like to have the deletion reversed. Thank you. AUS Sailing - John Bertrand confusion There are two John Bertanrds in Sailing, and they both won medals in the Olympic Finn class. I added a complete explaination the John Bertrand page including the pertinent Olympic medals, dates of birth, etc, but someone condensed it down to a single sentence. Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Tas/domestic cricket

Just letting anyone who is interested in domestic cricket know I have updated all the Sheffield Shield teams with nice little infoboxes, although the total stats I got from cricket australia seem very dodgy to me. ie NSW only having played 110 games in over 100 years? Anyone know where to get more accurate info? (Seems like CA have better things to do than worry about history).

Also anyone interested in Tasmanian Club cricket, I have done the Tasmanian Cricket Association, Tasmanian Grade Cricket, and all of the Southern TCA side's pages, and will continue to update the northern ones over the next few days. Rac fleming.

It could really do with some input, particularly from somebody who has read Robert Pascoe's 1995 book, The Winter Game: The Complete History of Australian Football. State cricket teams / rugby league team names

National teams are generally named (Country) national (sport) team eg. France national rugby union team, Argentina national football team, Australian cricket team, Japan national baseball team. (Notice cricket is an exception because the West Indies aren't really a nation, so "national" is omitted for all teams.) Should we name state teams in a similar way? eg.

In the case of the cricket teams, it would help when team names change with sponsorship arrangements change.

In the case of the rugby league teams, I don't know a lot about the sport so I've been trying to discuss on the article talk pages but haven't got a clear consensus.

2007 World Aquatics Championships needs updating...

Today the disqualification of the Tunesian swimmer was announced by the Court of Sport Arbitration, which entails the revocation of his 2 medals from Melbourne 2007. Consequently, the article and its dependent articles (Swimming at.., the biogram of the athlete) need updating, as well as the addition of the newly created replacement medal winners and their times. Australian cricket colour templates

Template:Australian domestic cricket Labelled Map I've created some templates with the hex values of official colours of the domestic cricket teams. I've added them to the category Category:Australian_cricket_colour_templates - that page also has a sample of their colours (some of the colours used were a bit off the exact ones used - compare old and new versions of Pura Cup to see the difference.)

Hi Chuq. You may get a better response at WP:AWNB and WT:CRIC. Personally, while I would certainly participate in such a project, perhaps rather than a separate WikiProject it would be more suitable to establish an Australian cricket task force (including a discussion page, to-do list and a few other tools) inside the two parent projects. I am not sure that the scope needs all the paraphernalia (such as tagging) that comes with a project. Regardless, I am certainly keen to be involved. Also, have a look at the advert above. That's possible, but what prompted me to suggest a separate project was because I am currently crossposting comments both here an WT:CRIC. A task force would have the same problem - which project is it a part of? If there is a clear precedent that is easy, but my suggested name I thought was following precendents of WikiProjects Australian basketball, Australian motorsport, Football (soccer) in Australia, etc. by being a fully separate project. -- Chuq (talk) 03:29, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy for a new project to form, my concern is WP:CRIC and WP:AUS are strong projects with plenty of interaction and collaboration. I am not sure that is the case with the ones you have listed above. As for what project the task force would belong to, it would belong to both. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. Jelena Dokić

Could someone have a browse through this article? There's some very POV-sounding sentiments expressed and it appears to have been written to seem like her decision to fire her father and return to Australia caused World War 1 and 9/11. I've removed an extremely strange statement claiming her parting ways with her father and a love triangle with her trainer caused her to fail miserably at tennis but it's possible (if not likely) there's similar kind of bias elsewhere in the page. It appears to be simple Serbian nationalism at work defaming the defector but I don't have the background knowledge to back up any clean up of the article. +Hexagon1 ^(t) 06:08, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GAN backlog reduction - Sports and recreation

As you may know, we currently have 400 good article nominations, with a large number of them being in the sports and recreation section. As such, the waiting time for this is especially long, much longer than it should be. As a result of this, I am asking each sports-related WikiProject to review two or three of these nominations. If this is abided by, then the backlog should be cleared quite quickly. Some projects nominate a lot but don't review, or vice-versa, and following this should help to provide a balance and make the waiting time much smaller so that our articles can actually get reviewed! Should Category:Scandals with -gate suffix stay deleted?

There's a discussion going on here [2] (until February 13) about whether it was proper to delete the "Scandals with -gate suffix" category (Watergate, Troopergate, Travelgate) a subject that may be of interest to members of this project.

According to List of scandals with "-gate" suffix there are a few scandals having to do with Australian sports that have been called "-gate" ("Liargate", "Liegate", AFL siren controversy, 2006 ["dubbed 'Sirengate'"], I have no idea how often the term is really used in these cases or whether the one article here should ever be in that category). Two articles on Australian politics are also on the list.

There is discussion ongoing at Wikipedia_talk:BIO#RFC:_WP:Athlete_Professional_Clause_Needs_Improvement debating possible changes to the WP:ATHLETE notability guideline. As a result, some have suggested using WP:NSPORT as an eventual replacement for WP:ATHLETE. Australian sports articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Australian sports articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). Hi. I've been working on editing a few articles about Australian Paralympians and the Australian Paralympic movement. These articles are:

These articles are all in decent shape and are well cited. Two of them have a number of good pictures. It would be really fantastic if some one could come in and help improve these articles to get them up to a place where they could be nominated for Good Article. Wikimedians to the Games

If there are any Australians lurking around, Wikimedians to the Games is a collaboration drive to improve Australian Paralympic articles, with the most active contributors having an opportunity to go attend the Paralympic Games and to cover the Games behind the scenes with a press pass. Problematic new article

Australia at the team sports international competitions was created earlier this month, ironically by a user who has a Userbox on his User page saying "This user can contribute with an advanced level of English". To me, the title, which is repeated in the first sentence, displays a not so good level of English.

Height

Do members of this Wikiproject have an opinion about how height is displayed metrically in biographies within its scope? In Australia height is expressed in centimetres when using the metric system, and this is reflected in sources. Despite this however, some editors from non-metric countries are enforcing metres as the unit for displaying height (example). It seems a very trivial thing, but the use of metres simply isn't supported by reliable sources as far as I can see. A self-selected and obviously biased group of editors deciding on a move request that could impact on other sports.

Over at Talk:Sydney Derby (A-League) there's an Requested move discussion underway (it's the only thread on that page) to change the name of the article Sydney Derby (A-League) to Sydney Derby, bypassing the disambiguation.

It bothers me that the vast majority of editors at Talk:Sydney Derby (A-League) are obviously soccer fans, who inevitably all think that the change is a good idea. Editors with an interest on other sports, or even better, an objective view, are not even aware that the discussion is underway.

To my mind, any sport with two teams in Sydney has at least some claim to the title Sydney Derby, but only soccer fans are commenting. Maybe others with thoughts on this matter should take a look. HiLo48 (talk) 11:10, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Leaflet For Wikiproject Australian Sports At Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

POV pushing at Queensland rugby league team

Can I have some more eyes at the above article please. Only two of us have played on Talk page for this issue, so we need more input. An editor who is happy have players simply play for different codes when they move from one form of rugby to another insists on describing them as being poached when they choose to play Australian football. I think even the editor involved agrees that "poached" is a non-neutral term, but argues that it is what actually happened. I believe it would do no harm at all, and be a much better look for Wikipedia, if we used the neutral term "recruited", but he won't have a bar of it.

I haven't looked into dispute in question, but if it is as clear as you suggest then there is probably no need to shop. Having read the NPOV discussion, it seemed to attract very limited outside opinions which didn't really provide a specific answer (one seemed to generally suggest not using the word and the other that it depended on reliable sources). I don't think, however, that titling the post "Anti-AFL POV pushing at Queensland rugby league team" is in any way "neutral" regardless of "what the topic deserves". WP:FORUMSHOP doesn't make an exception for "what a topic deserves". Let other editors come to their own conclusions without trying to influence them if it is as open and shut as you claim (which also makes the outcome either way significantly clearer/less controversial). Wikipedia does "give a rat's" about the conduct of editors and that is why there are guidelines (which you seem prepared to ignore whenever it suits you). And I am interested in the topic (have been a Blues fan for what was until this year a depressing period). I came across this post because I look at what is happening in sport in Australia. From memory, this is literally the first time I have ever entered into a debate featuring yourself outside of the aforementioned soccer discussions.
