Resource Request

Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Finding a source

Tips for finding a source yourself

  • Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
  • Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
    • Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
  • Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
    • Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE, Taylor & Francis and much more.
  • Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
  • Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.
  • If the article is paywalled, a browser extension may bypass the paywall. Try Unpaywall for academic journals or Bypass Paywalls Clean (Firefox, Chrome) for news websites.

Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request

  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
  • Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
    • point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
    • share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
    • upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
    • email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
  • Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

Studies in the Franciscan Order

Where can the essay Kajetan Eßer: Studies in the Franciscan Order. in: Interest. The franciscan Approach, 2 (1966), pp. 5-10. be found? cf. https://www.antonianumroma.org/prof_bibliografiaViewnota.php?lg=ge&id=3166 Dr Lol (talk) 17:06, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Probably worth checking if this is even what it says in the bibliography. There are several quite substantial (presumably OCR-related) mistakes on that page (eg "Der Laie ini ursprUnglichen Minderbriiderorden (Mitteilungen des Grabmann-Institutes der Università! Mùnchen, Heft 11)" - quite a bit has gone wrong here ...). — Pajz (talk) 00:04, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Open question. Institute of Ethiopian Studies, public domain photographic works.

Greetings! The Institute of Ethiopian Studies says they have many photographic works, quite a few that are now in the public domain because of age. They also frequently provide pictures to authors for their books, i have one of these books, but i probably can't just scan some pictures and upload it here? I have sent an email to the two mails at http://www.aau.edu.et/ies/ies-library/periodical/, so far no reaction.

● Open question: Does Wikipedia/or individual editors have acces to this institute collections? For Ethiopia related articles

Request for Pamirian folktales (in German)

  • Levin, Isidor. Märchen vom Dach der Welt: Überlieferungen der Pamir-Völker. Die Märchen der Weltliteratur. E. Diederichs Verlag, 1986. pp. 94-100 (Tale nr. 11, Sultan-scheckiger Hund); 120-128 (Tale nr. 15, Die drei Frauen des Padischah); 249 (classification for both tales); pp. 327ff Anmerkungen (only the commentaries on tales 11 and 15). ISBN 978-3-424-00883-8.

The first tale is for Animal as Bridegroom, since the book indicates it is a variant of Aarne-Thompson-Uther Index type 425B, Cupid and Psyche. The second tale is for The Dancing Water, the Singing Apple, and the Speaking Bird, a tale of type ATU 707.

KHR FolkMyth, is the second edition (1989), https://d-nb.info/890323623, fine as well? They have the same size (also page size), so I don't think the page numbers will be different. Might just be a reprint with a few typographic fixes. — Pajz (talk) 20:47, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If the contents are the same, regardless of edition, then I see no problem with using the most recent. KHR FolkMyth (talk) 02:03, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For Advanced eXtensible Interface This is an open-ended request for getting book sources, which seem to be quite common when looked up on Google Books, to help improve this article. I'm thinking of this as more of an open-ended request for sources like this, that mention the topic. I don't think direct access to the files is needed. A list of citations will do. 2601:647:5800:1A1F:F4E8:3E1B:616:B8B3 (talk) 22:31, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For example, I need to know the exact number of some page for citation; and it is very possible, that in that OCR-version the total amount of pages differs from the original paper version of the book. صلاح الأوكراني (talk) 12:41, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For Ursula Sillge I don't speak German and while I am happy to pay them 0.99€ for the article, I don't want a subscription to a newspaper I can't read. Even if I could figure out how to pay them for it, I have no clue how I would cancel a subscription after receiving the article. I am hoping someone has a subscription and can send it to me.

Robert Payne: Massacre, page 102

  • Payne, Robert (c. 1973). Massacre (The Tragedy of Bangladesh & the Phenomenon of Mass Slaughter Throughout History). p. 102. ISBN 9780025952409.

While going through an older version of the page Tikka Khan, I noticed the line, "Along with Yahya Khan, he is considered a chief architect of the 1971 Bangladesh genocide[...]", which had a Citation needed tag (the sentence has since been deleted). Upon doing some research, I found this website, which, in the section "Who was responsible?", corroborates the claim, citing Payne's 1973 work: Massacre (The Tragedy of Bangladesh & the Phenomenon of Mass Slaughter Throughout History), page 102. If someone could help verify this, I would be able to add the statement back.

To be extra precise, I am (ideally) looking for:

  1. A copy of page 102 of the book, if it does state that Tikka Khan was one of the chief architects of the genocide.
  2. If page 102 does not contain the above information, but another page within the book does, I ask for a copy of that alternate page.
