Finding a source

Tips for finding a source yourself

Main page: WP:Find your source
  • Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
  • Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
    • Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
  • Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
    • Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE, Taylor & Francis and much more.
  • Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.

Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request

  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
  • Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
    • point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )

Open question. Institute of Ethiopian Studies, public domain photographic works.

Greetings! The Institute of Ethiopian Studies says they have many photographic works, quite a few that are now in the public domain because of age. They also frequently provide pictures to authors for their books, i have one of these books, but i probably can't just scan some pictures and upload it here? I have sent an email to the two mails at http://www.aau.edu.et/ies/ies-library/periodical/, so far no reaction.

The first tale is for Animal as Bridegroom, since the book indicates it is a variant of Aarne-Thompson-Uther Index type 425B, Cupid and Psyche. The second tale is for The Dancing Water, the Singing Apple, and the Speaking Bird, a tale of type ATU 707.

For Animal as Bridegroom. The pages refer to a Persian/Iranian variant of Cupid and Psyche. Only this tale and the Anmerkungen (Annotations) for it on page 301. ITEM 1 HAS BEEN FULFILLED.

  • Keller, Gabriele. Märchen aus Samarkand: Feldforschung an der Seidenstraße in Zentralasien; aus der mündlichen Überlieferung in Usbekistan. Druck und Werbestudio, 2004. pp. 42 (source), 43ff (Tale nr. 5, Chötiktscha/Xo’tikcha), 153ff/156 (commentaries). ISBN 9783000092282.

For Animal as Bridegroom. The tale is a Uzbek variant of the tale type. Page 42 indicates the informant; around page 153 there is some extensive commentary on the Turkic language variants, and on page 156 is the classification.

Hello. I checked the book you sent and unfortunately that was not the book I wanted. I was looking for Uzbek tales Chötiktscha/Xo’tikcha (tale type 425B) [8] and Die goldhaarigen Zwillingskinder (tale type 707). At any rate, the pages mention other tale types I will look into. While going through an older version of the page Tikka Khan, I noticed the line, "Along with Yahya Khan, he is considered a chief architect of the 1971 Bangladesh genocide[...]", which had a Citation needed tag (the sentence has since been deleted). Upon doing some research, I found this website, which, in the section "Who was responsible?", corroborates the claim, citing Payne's 1973 work: Massacre (The Tragedy of Bangladesh & the Phenomenon of Mass Slaughter Throughout History), page 102. If someone could help verify this, I would be able to add the statement back.

To be extra precise, I am (ideally) looking for:

  1. A copy of page 102 of the book, if it does state that Tikka Khan was one of the chief architects of the genocide.
  2. If page 102 does not contain the above information, but another page within the book does, I ask for a copy of that alternate page.
