== Why are you preventing documentation of Toy Tinker Introduction? == |
|||
Hey. So, can you explain to me WHY we cann't mention the "From all of us to all of you"'s introduction to [[Toy Tinkers]] in the Toy Tinker article? Is it that you doubt the existence? Or that this is not cannonical material from the original release? Or is it that somebody may have forged these animation segments in the disney style to mis-inform the public? It is hard to document by citations, but there's no doubt that this animation exists -- we can all see it online. And we can all see that it was cut by Disney to be |
|||
part of Toy Tinkers at one point. The different versions available on-line from different sources are evidence that forging the clips would have been expensive. And the clips are entirely benign -- even if they are forgeries, they are entertaining and something to be enjoyed. You reversed the first versions because there were no citations. You reversed the next versions because the citations were low-class. Nobody has written a PhD dissertation on the different versions of Toy Tinkers, so there is clearly no "authoratative" source out there. Any better ones somebody finds are welcome! But those citations don't really have any relevance to the facts of the matter. We can all see for ourselves that this material exists, and is relevant to the page. What language should we use to communicate to the readers that there is this other version of the short that contains material they may not already know about and may enjoy? Merry Christmas!
BOZ (talk) is wishing you a Merry Christmas! This greeting (and season) promotes WikiLove and hopefully this note has made your day a little better. Spread the WikiLove by wishing another user a Merry Christmas, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past, a good friend, or just some random person. Don't eat yellow snow!
Spread the holiday cheer by adding {{subst:User:Flaming/MC2008}} to their talk page with a friendly message.
I'm wishing you a Merry Christmas, because that is what I celebrate. If you don't like Christmas or just don't celebrate it in any of its forms, then please accept a generic "Happy Holidays". If you celebrate no holidays at this time of year, then hopefully you will be satisfied with an even more generic "Season's Greetings". :) BOZ (talk) 21:52, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
Fantasy RPGs
Hey there! :) I have been particularly enjoying seeing you popping up again and again on my watchlist as you work on articles I created as well as ones that I am interested in, particularly lately on what you did with Shadowlands. I have started dozens of video game articles, but that was among my first, which I did as part of going through tabletop game magazine "Dragon" to make sure that all of the reviews from their computer game column had articles. I made quite a few articles at that time (and I have done similar things with other magazines since then), but going back to where I started, I made them all as little stubs and most of them have grown out of that to one degree or another over time as other users added to them. Since it looks like you are primarily interested in fantasy RPGs, if you wanted to take a look at and see what you can do with any more like those, I made a (relatively) short list: Dungeon of Death, Dunzhin, Dragonfire II: The Dungeonmaster's Assistant, OrbQuest: The Search For Seven Wards, Realms of Darkness, Tower of Myraglen, Citadel: Adventure of the Crystal Keep, Knight Force, Fire King, The Keys to Maramon, DarkSpyre, Prophecy of the Shadow, Paladin II, Challenge of the Five Realms, and Citadel of the Dead. :) BOZ (talk) 23:03, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
Video games
Hi there. I stumbled across Das Stundenglas and thought it looks very well done. Have you ever thought about taking your works to Good Article Nominations? GamerPro64 02:59, 19 January 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry about adding that fact to an Xbox game, I just found out I need sources now. 78.17.160.92 (talk) 22:53, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Die Kathedrale
Hi, Waxworker! Thanks for your work Die Kathedrale, and I am translating it into my homewiki: non-English text adventure games are always distinctive. And I have a couple of questions:
- The game was inspired by Münster Cathedral or St. Paul's Church, Munich? The source said "Als die beiden Ende 1989 die Münchner St. Pauls Kathedrale besichtigten...". I can not understand German and have to use machine translation. Are there any missing?
- In my language, there is no hypernym like "half-brother" - we need to clarify which parent is the same one. Did the game reveal something about Paz and Jan Hus' same parent (or which one is more likely to be the same)?
- What does "legibility" mean in "the legibility of the output text is excellent"? Is this comprehension correct: "output text is also written in native German, so it had a great comprehensibility"?
Thank you!--Lopullinen 10:25, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Lopullinen: Thank you for your interest in Die Kathedrale. What language are you translating it into?
- 1. St. Paul's Church, Munich! Thank you for pointing out my error.
- 2. I wouldn't know anything about this, sorry. I haven't played the game, and all information on the game I got from the sources on the article. None of the current sources specify which parent.
- 3. Your comprehension is correct: "legibility" refers to and praises the game's fluid native German text, while English games that have been translated into German may lack this fluidity due to not originally being in German. I believe the game's support for special characters used in German, umlauts and eszett were also a factor in this point of praise, as they were for Das Stundenglas. Waxworker (talk) 23:21, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
- Here is my translation . And thank you for your answer, it makes my translation better! --Lopullinen 12:25, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
DYK for Cover Girl Strip Poker
On 27 June 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Cover Girl Strip Poker, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a model featured in the game Cover Girl Strip Poker said that she was not informed what the photoshoot was for, and that several models were not paid for their involvement in the game? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Cover Girl Strip Poker. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Cover Girl Strip Poker), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Computer game reviews
Check out what I have been busy with. :) BOZ (talk) 00:58, 11 July 2020 (UTC)
- @BOZ: Neat! You've done really good work with Next Generation's reviews, I've been doing a similar thing with The One, although I'm far less active at the moment as I'm in the process of moving, among other things. The One's pre-release interviews are invaluable for information regarding a game's development, and some other magazines at the time (such as Zzap!) did them as well, so I'd recommend looking for those in addendum to reviews. Waxworker (talk) 14:30, 11 July 2020 (UTC)
- I hope you are aware of Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Reference library/The One then. There is no Reference library page for Zzap! but there probably ought to be one. :) I've also been putting work into the CGW reviews after finishing with NG. BOZ (talk) 05:59, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
- @BOZ: I was unaware of that project, but it doesn't really impact my work with The One, as I'm working on going though the full contents of the magazine, including it's interviews and news sections, rather than only reviews. The news sections have frequently mentioned games that end up unreleased or specific release dates for games (which is also useful!), and in the case of Constructor, it revealed the existence of an unreleased cancelled (probably Amiga) version of the game a full six years before the game was ever released. Waxworker (talk) 15:57, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
- Awesome! That sounds like a worthy approach, because I know that magazines go into detail on games aside from their reviews sections, even though I have been focusing mostly on what the reviews can do for reception sections. Go for it. :) BOZ (talk) 16:39, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Retro games
I have seen some of the work you do on older games. I have tried with some success to start articles from existing redirects, or restoring old redirected articles, but so far Killer Bees!, and M*A*S*H (video game), and Sorcerer's Apprentice (Atari 2600) and Lifespan (video game) were all redirected no matter what I tried to do with them - do you know if anything can be done for any of those? So far I have only been successful with Jupiter Lander and Mazogs. 2601:249:8B80:4050:E1A4:1AFE:32AC:E2CB (talk) 15:12, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- I definitely think those could be full-fledged articles, but they just need more detail before publishing. Citations need to be properly formatted, there should be an infobox, a reception section that overviews the opinions of reviews of the game, and a gameplay section that goes over how the game is played sufficiently. While I think you definitely already have an alright number of sources (on Apprentice atleast), you need to write more using info garnered from them. For Sorcerer's Apprentice, I've found many additional sources for you:[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. I found these sources through Archive.org, by selecting "search text contents" in the search window with the string "Sorcerer's Apprentice atari". While a lot of irrelevant sources come up, if you take the time to look through the results (like eyeing what's highlighted to see if it's relevant), you can find a lot of sources this way, it's what I always do. I usually also check MobyGames, Kultboy (German source), SpectrumComputing, the Amiga Hall of Light, and just googling the name of the name of the game with key terms such as the system it's on or who made it. Professional citations and tables (if there's atleast 2 review scores) also really help. Here's my go-to template for magazine citations in case this helps: cite magazine|title = |date = |url = |magazine = |publisher = |last = |first = |issue = |page = |ISSN= Waxworker (talk) 23:02, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- That's great, thanks! I will work on Sorcerer's Apprentice later today. Did you see anything else for Killer Bees! or Lifespan, or have I pretty much tapped those out already? 2601:249:8B80:4050:69CB:A787:B76E:BF3C (talk) 12:24, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- I've only done a cursory search for the other two, as I feel you should find more sources yourself through Archive.org n such, but typically with Archive.org results it's easier to find sources if the name of the game's less generic. In regards to Lifespan, there's definitely more sources, but they'll be harder to find due to the name. "Sorcerer's Apprentice" was easy to find, as the name's more specific. I wish you luck in finding more sources :] Waxworker (talk) 20:00, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- OK, thank you for your help! Back to the old drawing board. Someone reverted me on Sorcerer's Apprentice; with a stack of reviews that big, I wonder how many more sources they are expecting? Oh well. 2601:249:8B80:4050:69CB:A787:B76E:BF3C (talk) 20:17, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Barony
I didn't realize I was making a mess on your draft of the Barony (video game) page, and I apologize for undoing your revert. See my talk page for an extended response.Skrathbun812 (talk) 20:20, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
Category:Works set in castles
You have been putting that category in a lot of articles without checking to make certain they were actually set in castles. I have reverted some of them. Dream Focus 22:53, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Dream Focus: Apologies if I put it on some games that don't have castles enough to be a defining trait - by and large I was going off how much castles were mentioned in the gameplay/plot descriptions, and in the case of Dungeon Siege Castle Ehb was a major part of the game both in my opinion and it came up a lot on the article, but whatever. Sorry to be a bit of an inconvenience - was working on filling an underpopulated category and my determining factor for adding it was how much castles were mentioned throughout the article and my own personal judgement. Waxworker (talk) 23:15, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Someone else reverted you in that one. I reverted you in three other articles. Warcraft: Orcs & Humans only has the word "castle" mentioned once and that's in the backstory that happened before the game started. Dream Focus 23:22, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

KCD Biographies
Hi Waxworker!
I noticed you edited a few biographies about historical figures featured in the game Kingdom Come deliverance. I understand that you don't want to include information tying the figures to the characters in the game due to the lack of non-primary sources.
In my opinion, I think a brief mention about the characters being based on the historical figures is appropriate, and citing the game itself, which explicitly states such, should be fine under WP:PRIMARYCARE. The game itself is notable the information is easily verifiable, and I don't believe anything extraneous was included. What do you think? Mbdfar (talk) 18:31, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Mbdfar: If you want to add it back, go ahead; I think it's fine on the condition that it explicitly states ingame that X character is based on X historical figure, as the names used in the game aren't exactly the same. Otherwise it seems like original research. The images from the game being used on the article probably shouldn't stay though, as they were uploaded to Commons despite being copyrighted images ripped from the game. In addendum to this, having a video game portrayal as the main image on the article for a real person seems rather inappropriate, especially as we don't know how speculative the depiction of their appearance is, and where they got the information on what they looked like. Waxworker (talk) 18:44, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah I think thats the best way forward. I agree on the images as well. Mbdfar (talk) 18:47, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Jason Foundation
Hello Waxworker. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Jason Foundation, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: I've taken out the bulk of the article which was rather spammy. Not sure what's left is enough, so I'll probably PROD it. . Thank you. GedUK 16:20, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
Hello! Just wanted to give you a notice that I requested a restoration of Sven Bømwøllen, the article you issued a PROD for. I did that because I found several sources talking about the game non-trivially, which I incorporated into the article itself. There's more out there, such as Stern (magazine) covering some sequels, for example the 2nd title [1]. If you still wish to delete the article, feel free to nominate it at AfD. Regards, Jovanmilic97 (talk) 21:36, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
Moonmist
Thanks for fixing the header name I botched. As you guessed, it should have been Release and not Reception. The reason I removed the line about the invisible ink hint book is because that's not specific to Moonmist. Infocom sold Invisiclues books for most of their games. The hints were invisible, and you used a provided marker to expose them. Dgpop (talk) 01:17, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Dgpop: I was unaware that the invisible ink hint book wasn't unique to Moonmist, but I'm still opposed to removing info about it. I can probably find a ref talking about the 'Invisiclues' range as a whole and reword it to something like "As part of Infocom's Invisiclues range of hint books, a hint book for the game written in invisible ink was available through mail order." Apologies that I can't get to it today though, I've promised to spend the day with my wife rather than editing Wikipedia. Waxworker (talk) 08:48, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- Sure, that sounds like a good way to do it. The Infocom game articles have a bunch of duplicate info, but strangely, most of them don't mention Invisiclues. Dgpop (talk) 20:54, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- What feels wrong to me, is when each Infocom article has an explanation of "Feelies," talks about how portable the Z-machine is, etc. Maybe Invisiclues weren't sold for all games, so there's a clear reason to only include it in some articles? Dgpop (talk) 21:43, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Dgpop: I think that 'feelies' definitely needs an article of its own, as the concept was popular with a lot of RPGs and adventure games in the 80's and early 90's, although it was definitely popularized by Infocom. Hyperlinking to the article for the concept rather than re-explaining it on every page would be more apt, especially as many other non-Infocom games had them, with Ultima and all of Software 2000's artventure games (like Die Kathedrale & Hexuma) coming to mind. Waxworker (talk) 22:31, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Tagging pages for deletion
Hello, Waxworker,
I was just going over today's expiring PRODs and found one that you had tagged which was deleted. But I noticed that you didn't post a talk page notice to the page creator informing them of this tagging. This is an important step to do with any deletion tagging (CSD, PROD, AFD/TFD/CFD/etc.) so please remember to do this in the future. Otherwise, the page creator may not even be aware that their pages have been deleted or why since regular editors do not have access to their Deleted Contributions. If you make use of Twinkle, the program will post these talk page messages for you any time you tag a page for deletion which makes things easy. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 22:16, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Liz: Thank you for letting me know about Twinkle, I'd seen it in passing but I figured it required special permissions or something, so I never looked into it. It should definitely make some things easier once I figure out how to use it properly, tools that automate tasks on Wikipedia seem daunting as I'm concerned it'll mess something up and I'd be responsible for it. Hohenwerfen Castle
Hi there. What do you regard a reliable source? IMDb is seen as reliable all over Wikipedia. But I can email you some stills from the film if you like, so you can see for yourself. --Judithcomm (talk) 17:16, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Judithcomm: Please see WP:IMDB - IMDB is considered unreliable as its user-generated, and stills from the film don't show that the appearance of the castle in the film is notable. Generally for pop culture appearances citing the film/media itself isn't considered reliable, and would need a third-party source discussing the work and its relevance to the subject of the article. I wasn't able to find any reliable sources that mention the castle being used as a filming location for the film. Waxworker (talk) 18:04, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Ok thanks for the info.--Judithcomm, but I cannot help myself. See here. (talk) 21:39, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
Schrödinger's cat in popular culture
Hello, back in April you raised issues with Schrödinger's cat in popular culture at Wikipedia:Cleanup. That article was nominated for deletion at least twice in Wikipedia's early years (pre-2010) and survived, largely because of user beliefs at that time about useful pop culture articles. I think WP guidelines have gotten tougher since then, especially WP:INDISCRIMINATE and WP:OR. What would you think about nominating the article for deletion again, this time under 2021 standards? It might be an uphill battle though, because that article seems to have a lot of fans. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:54, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Doomsdayer520: I think it'd be good to bring it to AFD again, but I doubt it'll get deleted due to the article's age and as it's a large article with references (technically, even if its an unreliable source or just citing the media that mentions Schrödinger's cat itself) and I think people responding to the AFD may take an immediate glance at the article and its sourcing, see the three previous keep discussions, and come to the conclusion that it's a good, properly sourced article. If you do take it to AFD, I'd suggest making a case about why the sourcing is unsuitable and why the concept of 'Schrödinger's cat in popular culture' as a whole doesn't meep WP's notability standards, and that these standards have changed over time. Waxworker (talk) 20:48, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- I think it's a waste of time to start an AfD that is unlikely to get real policy-based votes, and you're probably right about what would happen if we start one now. I'd be willing to cut back some of the slop in that article via the cleanup process. Since you raised it at the Cleanup Project, hopefully some more folks from that team will chip in. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 00:31, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Shudderwock
How many references are needed to show that the Shudderwock in Hearthstone is clearly based on Jabberwocky? It's obvious enough when looking at the card's name, art, voicelines and flavor text.
https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/cards/48111-shudderwock
https://hearthstone.fandom.com/wiki/Shudderwock
Flavor text: Beware the Shudderwock, my son. We're fresh out of vorpal daggers.
Voice line when summoned: My jaws that bite, my claws that catch!
Voice line when attacking: Snicker-snack!
Even the sound it makes when dying is clearly inspired by that character.
Or you can just download Hearthstone (free to download) and see for yourself!
Or you can just search for Shudderwock Shaman on youtube and see the card in action, e.g. here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2Zjj-3iN6E
Or you can go to the Blizzard artist's facebook page, where he confirms the obvious:
"This is a nice Hearthstone variation on Tenniel's Jabberwock, Matt. Great job! - Thanks Jim. I've loved the original illustration since childhood so it was very cool to have the chance to pay homage."

Wenders movie in EMP-in-pop-culture article
You have undone my revision in Electromagnetic pulse in popular culture as "unsourced". Let me list sources:
1/ I'm an eyewitness, having watched the movie 30 yrs ago.
2/ See movie clip: https://www.youtube.com/clip/UgkxRP76M-lJKMJuo7XuItB_XlE2T5CiCsKh Watch with proper aspect ratio: https://www.stretch.site/?videoUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dmg6mzRlgVWo&scaleFactor=1.338&zoomFactor=1.000
3/ „In the case of Sam and Claire, they’ve been cultivating a cautious romance in their encounters around the world before eventually converging with that EMP while on the last leg of their journey, flying in a small airplane to Henry’s secret laboratory in the Australian Outback. Their airplane loses power and they have to glide down to Earth, barreling headlong across the desert scrub as Peter Gabriel’s “Blood of Eden” plays, the whole scene intercut with the other characters elsewhere simultaneously realizing what’s happened.” In: https://www.wired.com/story/until-the-end-of-the-world/
4/ „When a nuclear detonation in space creates an EMP pulse that blows out everyone’s microcircuits, Eugene goes back to basics, writing on paper using an old typewriter.” In: https://trailersfromhell.com/until-the-end-of-the-world/
5/ „Apocalypse Wow: Averted. Civilization isn't destroyed by the EMP, and life goes on. Only it takes the main characters a while to realize this, since they're out of contact with the rest of civilization.” In: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Film/UntilTheEndOfTheWorld
6/ "While Claire and Sam are in the air, the Indian nuclear satellite is shot down by the U.S. government, and the resulting NEMP effect wipes the memories of and interferes with the functioning of unshielded electronics. The engine of his plane stops, so Sam has to execute an emergency landing. He and Claire walk across the desert until they are found by Sam's friend David, who has Eugene, Winter, and Chico in the bed of his hand-cranked diesel-powered truck. David takes everyone to Sam's father's lab, which is sheltered in a massive cave. Burt eventually arrives as well and everyone settles in to wait and see whether communications with the outside world will be restored. Eugene, who was writing a novel about Claire and her adventures before it was erased from his computer by the NEMP, begins rewriting it on an antique typewriter." In Until the End of the World (This was linked in my original page edit. I was under the impression that Wikipedia articles are considered proper sources.)
You may want to check out some more EMP pop culture references at https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EMP which are not all listed in Electromagnetic pulse in popular culture, but they are beyond my knowledge. Macskabagoly (talk) 20:15, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Macskabagoly: Movie clips on Youtube aren't a reliable source (see WP:RSPYT), and it is also a copyright violation, see WP:YOUTUBE. TV Tropes is an unreliable source per WP:RSP, as it is user-generated. Wired is a reliable source, re-adding info about the film seems fine with the Wired ref, but I encourage you to read WP:POPCULTURE - the article as it stands is rather poorly sourced and should not be seen as a good example of an 'in popular culture' article. Waxworker (talk) 20:50, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info, that's really great help for an inexperienced editor like me. What about Wikipedia content as source? In this case, the movie's WP article contains explicit mention of EMP in the narrative and clearly supports my edit. Isn't that sufficient? All other entries in the movie list refer exclusively to their respective WP articles, which do or do not mention EMP (e.g. in the case of Battle Royale II: Requiem, using EMP and its role in the narrative is not mentioned in the article in any form). So how shall we proceed with my edit? Macskabagoly (talk) 08:08, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Macskabagoly: Please see WP:BURDEN - unsourced info can be challenged and removed - the rest of the article should not be used as a guide for adding new entries, as it is largely unsourced and may be removed. As I said, re-adding the info you added with the Wired article seems fine, as it is a reliable source. Wikipedia articles should not be cited within Wikipedia per WP:CIRCULAR as it is a user-generated source. Referencing is not only used to show that information is true (e.g. there was an EMP in this film), but also that it is notable. If an EMP is a major part of a film and reliable sources discuss this, then it would be good to add with said sources. If an EMP appears in a film but is not a major part of it/sources only mention the EMP in passing, then it should not be added. In this case, the Wired ref seems to indicate notability. I saw that you have a mentor - I encourage you to go to them if you have any other questions, as they would be able to explain things better than I would. Waxworker (talk) 15:55, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

1408 edit
Hi, this was my first edit I've done and I wasn't sure what I should put as a source. Would a YouTube video that I watched it on be sufficient? Leemoss (talk) 12:09, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Leemoss: Welcome to Wikipedia! Movie clips on Youtube are an unreliable source per WP:RSPYT, as well as a copyright violation. I recommend that you read WP:REFSTART - articles about the alternate ending by reliable sources would need to be added. Multiple articles about alternate endings for the film show up readily on Google, but I was unable to find anything mentioning the ending added in your edit in a cursory search. If you find a source discussing this alternate ending, I recommend that you doublecheck WP:RSP or WP:FILM/R to see if the source is considered reliable by consensus. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. Waxworker (talk) 12:27, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
FitGirl Repacks
Hi Waxworker, I noticed you reverted the removal I did in the FitGirl Repacks Wiki page in respect of the link to their website, however I wanted to let you know that their website is heavily monitored for pirate activity and there have also been reported some known instances of people (in their website's Disqus forum) having received multiple legal notices from their ISP against visiting/viewing this site, and thus, I believe this is sufficient reason as to why removal of any link to the site is necessary. I am largely inexperienced as this is my first proper edit on Wikipedia, please let me know if you think such change is unnecessary. ThinkMachine.sc (talk) 03:22, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
- @ThinkMachine.sc: Welcome to Wikipedia! I recommend that you read WP:NOTCENSORED and WP:COPYLINK - while ISPs may find the site objectionable, Wikipedia is not censored and its sensible for an article about a notable website to have a link to the website in question. WP:COPYLINK states that "In articles about a website, it is acceptable to include a link to that website even if there are possible copyright violations somewhere on the site", and articles about sites with similar legal concerns, such as RARBG and The Pirate Bay, list the site's URL. To take the example further, articles about darkweb markets (such as AlphaBay, Silk Road) list their URLs as well. If you have any other questions about this, I recommend asking at the Wikipedia:Teahouse - the hosts there would be able to explain Wikipedia guidelines better than me. Chateau d´Angers
I cordially ask you if you checked the link you deleted: https://www.topworldimages.com/Chateau_d´Angers.htm It seems to me that it contains a lot of multimedia information about the site, someone took the trouble to collect that information, right? I understand why you think it's spam? There are many external links like these Base Mérimée: Château fort, puis château des ducs d'Anjou, Ministère français de la Culture. (in French) Base Mérimée: Château d'Angers, Ministère français de la Culture. (in French) that are repeated, and it does not seem relevant information, besides being in French. 181.66.177.148 (talk) 22:00, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- @181.66.177.148: The site seems very spammy and appears to have no indication of who's running it, and including it in the article doesn't seem like an improvement. Please see WP:LINKSTOAVOID and WP:SPAMLINKS. Waxworker (talk) 22:45, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- Why do you think a site that collects information and videos of historical monuments is spammer? In the external links of Castle of Angers if the "Google Cultural Institute" appears, what does google do you think is good, what does a third party do you think is spam? Can you explain us? You saw the site https://www.topworldimages.com/Chateau_d´Angers.htm, you didn't like it, so you discard it? 181.66.177.148 (talk) 05:20, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Sorting categories?
I noticed that, in recent weeks, you have been adding lots of new categories to a wide range of articles. While these are certainly useful, I catch myself having to sort them alphabetically in accordance with the MoS every time such an edit pops up on my watchlist. I was therefore wondering whether you would consider sorting them already as you add the categories. There is a very handy script that allows you to do just that with just one click. Regards, IceWelder [✉] 20:26, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'm unsure how to use the script, and it's surprising to me that Hotcat doesn't have an option to do this automatically. Is there a way to enable alphabetically sorted cats with Hotcat that I'm missing? Waxworker (talk) 22:16, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not a regular HotCat user, so if there is something you missed, I wouldn't know of it either. The script I mentioned is fairly easy to use. You install it like all others by placing
{{subst:lusc|User:Epicgenius/sortcategories.js}}
on this page (because of substing it will give you a syntax error warning that you can ignore). When editing, a new link called "Sort categories" will appear in the sidebar under "Tools" and clicking it will perform that action. IceWelder [✉] 06:34, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Bad reasons to revert Shortcuts WP:DONTREVERT WP:BADREVERT "There are a number of things that sometimes motivate an editor to revert, but should not.
Do not revert unnecessary edits (i.e., edits that neither improve nor harm the article). For a reversion to be appropriate, the reverted edit must actually make the article worse. Wikipedia does not have a bias toward the status quo (except in some cases of fully developed disputes, while they are being resolved). In fact, Wikipedia has a bias toward change, as a means of maximizing quality by maximizing participation."
If you look at my sources they show that I added a real instance of the video being used and since it is a government propaganda video on PSYOPS (Psychological Operations) then it is not irrelevant. It is culturally relevant and if you want to make a change to it I am all ears but I feel like it was uncalled for to delete my contribution since it is valid. Even if you might not like the context it is still valid. Why not remove the instances where rap videos are cited? Some might scoff at those but not me because they directly point to an instance of the video being referenced, making it a valid entry. It may not be the best entry but I didn't lie or make the article worse (see wiki guidelines above). — Preceding unsigned comment added by RaspberryPi87 (talk • contribs) 03:04, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- @RaspberryPi87: Please see MOS:POPCULT, the brief appearance of the short seems trivial to include, and the only source for this is the video itself, no secondary sources seem to have discussed it. Please see WP:IPCV and WP:IPCEXAMPLES. Use of the short in music videos similarly needs better sourcing, and should be removed. Waxworker (talk) 23:34, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Diarmuid Ua Duibhne Edit
Your edit on the Diarmuid Ua Duibhne - In popular culture section removing the entry about Fate/Zero is a pretty terrible edit. “Lancer” in the show refers to himself as Diarmuid of the Knights of Fianna and in episode 9 of Fate/Zero the opening scene is Lancer reflecting on his previous incarnation as Diarmuid in Celtic legend. 24.179.34.65 (talk) 07:13, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
IP range reports at AIV
Hi Waxworker, first of all:
I wish that you may have a very Happy Holiday! Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Hogmanay, Festivus or your hemisphere's Solstice, this is a special time of year for almost everyone! May the New Year provide you joy and fulfillment! Thanks for everything you do here. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:47, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
Spread the holiday cheer by adding {{subst:User:Coffee/Holidays}} to your fellow editors' talk pages.
Now to business. :)
I've noticed a report for Special:Contributions/23.133.128.0/18 at WP:AIV, which is identical to Special:Contributions/23.133.128.0/24, and currently even identical to Special:Contributions/23.133.160.0/26. The latest contributions fit into Special:Contributions/23.133.160.0/27.
This leaves me wondering if you know how IP ranges work, and how you create them. The number after the slash is the number of bits that you are specifically referring to. For example, if you are specifically referring to one IP address, you can write "/32", as you are referring to all of the 32 bits an IPv4 address has. If you are referring to all IP addresses in the world, you can write "/0", as you are not referring to anything in specific.
- "1.0.0.0/8" is every IP address that starts with "1."
- "1.1.0.0/16" is every IP address that starts with "1.1."
- "1.1.1.0/24" is every IP address that starts with "1.1.1.". That's 256 addresses.
- "1.1.1.0/25" begins at "1.1.1.0" and ends at the half of the next block, "1.1.1.127". That's 128 addresses. You can halve that block further:
- "1.1.1.0/26" begins at "1.1.1.0" and ends at "1.1.1.63". That's 64 addresses. And once more:
- "1.1.1.0/27" begins at "1.1.1.0" and ends at "1.1.1.31". That's 32 addresses.
All that technical explanation aside, I'm also unsure if "disruption" is really a reason for an AIV report. If you have a closer look at the header of WP:AIV, you'll notice that it generally isn't.
Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:59, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
- @ToBeFree: I generally describe a report as "disruptive editing" if I'm unsure how to describe the IP's behavior other than 'addition of unsourced content', and to find a range I generally just put /16 after a relevant IP in the URL bar and increase that by 2 until finding a range that seems to cover the disruption without also encompassing constructive IP editors. In the case of 178.90.192.0/18, I reported as 'disruption' as they persistently add excessive plot detail to articles for MGM/Disney cartoons, adding such things as "An inscription On the final screen appeared the end an mgm cartoon made in hollywood u.s.a" or "On Then On Final Screen Goes And Inscription Appeared The End A Walt Disney Production" and I'm unsure how to otherwise describe the persistent addition of this. Apologies if I'm doing IP range reports wrong, I only vaguely figured out ranges a few months ago. Any input would be appreciated. Waxworker (talk) 22:16, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
- Ah, no worries. The approach to creating a range is almost fine, but it lacks the important final step of checking if the range is unduly huge. It doesn't always have to be the smallest possible range and the Whois information can help to choose one.
- For example, if someone vandalizes in a /27 range and the Whois output talks about a /26 range, blocking the /26 is usually a good way to prevent the user from randomly stepping outside of the range by reconnecting to the Internet. On the other hand, reporting a /18 where a /27 would have sufficed is clearly excessive to the point of making me write a custom request not to do so.
- I think in 99% of the cases, you can simply report individual IP addresses, especially if none have been blocked yet. A rangeblock is a good response to block evasion, not the initial disruption. Administrators will also usually notice a need for rangeblocks when block evasion is repeatedly reported. Reporting specific ranges at AIV is often unnecessary.
- If the disruption is only caused by the repetition using multiple IP addresses, page protection could be a better thing to ask for than a large rangeblock. At AIV, a quick note like "has been warned before at User talk:1.1.1.1" can be sufficient and even more helpful than a range.
- Whatever the person behind 23.133.160.18 is doing and why, it's certainly edit warring, so I have blocked that IP address for two weeks for now. If they return, "blocked for the same behavior at User talk:23.133.160.18 before" could be added to a report about the new IP address. And perhaps that report is best made at WP:ANEW or WP:RFPP, as the behavior is indeed disruptive but not obvious vandalism.
- All the best!

Savage: The Battle for Newerth and Savage DRX / Savage DRX Community Server
Hello, Could you advice how are we're supposed to go about this? Originally S2Games handed development to the SFE team, SFE team handed it to the XR team and finally XR team handed development to DRX team. It's many generations of developers and only way to currently play Savage is the DRX version. When Newerth.com closed down, the XR version became obsolete (if you download the game, it won't even launch because the services auto updater is trying to reach don't exists anymore). If you visit Newerth.com, it tells that "the folks at community-server.info are continuing to support the development of the game and community nearly 20 years after its release! Additionally, we have provided them with the necessary tools to revive these services in their DRX client." Since Newerth.com is the official Savage site according to the wiki page itself, as a trusted source it should be enough to establish that Savage DRX the official continuation currently. I can remove however the feature lists because Discord as a source isn't very good but sadly it's currently the only source. Savage is already at the brink of death because of the recent events and it's even worse off if we are not allowed exist among the previous developer generations. 2001:14BB:A5:8ED5:344A:562A:BD83:E166 (talk) 21:10, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
- I wrote the above message as you might guess. Wasn't logged in. BinaryStar10 (talk) 21:17, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
- @BinaryStar10: - I don't think anything else about fans continuing to work on the game should be added, as the article already states that "S2 Games have discontinued the game since, but its community continued developing it", which seems to summarize the subject well, and it doesn't seem that non-primary reliable sources have covered the fan versions of the game. Waxworker (talk) 19:29, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
- Right, yeah Savage has such a small player base nowadays that we don't have any secondary sources. Maybe we could get some gaming new site to interview our developer(s) because a story about an online game with over 20 years of community development and still refusing to die could be very interesting.
- But currently the wiki has stale information because XR is no longer the most popular continuation, and Newerth.com as the official website is closed. Wouldn't it be appropriate to at least quote the farewell message at Newerth.com? BinaryStar10 (talk) 19:55, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

What’s unsourced?
Hi, Wax. I just undid your Undo to Hotel- Dieu, deleting a change made by an IP address (not me). You justified your undo by saying it is unsourced. If by that you refer to the 829 date of founding, that is not only sourced in the article itself, but I can very well add additional sources that confirm the same date. It is clearly correct and well documented. Is that what you were referring to? Best. Doc Beaucoup. Dr Dobeaucoup (talk) 20:54, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Dr Dobeaucoup: - The specific date of "9 May" added by the IP was unsourced, and if you look at the rest of their contributions they've been adding dubious unsourced release dates to video games. Waxworker (talk) 20:57, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- Okay about the May 9. Do you have a problem with keeping the 829?Dr Dobeaucoup (talk) 21:02, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Dr Dobeaucoup: - 829 is sourced in lede, and seems fine to me, although I'm unable to view the source to verify. I hadn't removed the 829 date in infobox when reverting the IP - they just added different infobox formatting regarding dates alongside the unsourced date. Waxworker (talk) 21:08, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- Yes. You’re right. I have eliminated the May 9. Dr Dobeaucoup (talk) 21:13, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

- Apologies for the delayed response. Citing the credits themselves is a primary source, a secondary source like BFI (The Accidental Tourist on BFI, Kindergarten Cop on BFI would be better, and more readily verifiable. Waxworker (talk) 17:08, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
Suzuka Ohgo filmography
Hi Waxworker, I undid your undo. The list that I have added are part of the original page in Japanese Wikipedia here: Suzuka Ohgo. Alessandro Juliani and his appearance in Fringe
Hi. I saw Alessandro Juliani in the TV series Fringe and I wanted to mention it in the article about him. But you've reverted my change for not being backed by reliable sources. What would be enough to prove his appearance in a few seconds of one episode? IMDb isn't good enough, Wikia isn't good enough... I mean, the information has to come from somewhere, and he does play there... Possible mobile IP vandal?
You'll have to excuse me, as I really don't have a Wikipedia account to begin with and only thought to leave this here instead of as a reply on my IP's talk page when I suspected that you might not see it that way.
But to make things simple, I (personally) don't remember ever visiting either of the two pages that appear credited to my IP's contributions. I myself was convalescing in bed with a cold during the timestamp given by the edit. I've checked the edit history for the vandalized page you're referring to (Mune: Guardian of the Moon) and it appears that several different unregistered IPs have been trying to make the exact same insistent edit every time, so I can only assume it's someone cycling roaming IPs (note the mobile edit tag) and leaving others to take the fall. I'm afraid I hardly ever touch Wikipedia articles myself even when I see cleanup tags I could probably address, and I doubt your culprit is likely to learn their lesson if this message is just going to be left on unfortunate victims' IP addresses instead. 154.20.186.173 (talk) 02:15, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Asterix and the Power of the Gods
Hi. You rolled back my edit. I'm not arguing about youtube (I added a link to it just to make my edit not look like WP:OR).
But I don't think mentioning classical music used in the video game violates anything. I also believe it represents valuable information for readers. Personally, I played the game in my distant childhood, but I still remember the tunes from it and often encounter them elsewhere. In fact, I looked into the article just to identify some of them. Finding no such info here, I made some effort to find the music and get the accurate wiki links. Evilfreethinker (talk) 17:02, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Evilfreethinker: - Please see WP:VGSCOPE - #15 on a list of inappropriate content includes "Non-notable soundtracks". Reliable sources discussing the game's soundtrack would be necessary to show notability. Waxworker (talk) 17:07, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- Yep, I saw it. I just thought classical music didn't need the justification of notability as with ordinary OSTs. Well, I don't insist. I just looked at the Earthworm Jim 2 page (that game OST used a lot of classics, too) now, and there's no listings on the page either, but it is on the Talk page. So, I thought in the case of Asterix and the Power of the Gods, the song list could be thrown on Talks, too. Hope you don't mind. And, just in case, I left a heads up so no one would move it to the main page without discussion. Evilfreethinker (talk) 20:05, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
Sega Star Trek Arcade
You rolled back my edit citing "doesn't appear to be a reliable source". You used the word "appear" in your reasoning for your roll back. This would show that it is your opinion rather than based on researched fact. I am writing to prove first of my credibility as an owner operator of arcade games is apparent. I have been a long standing member listed in the KLOV database showing that I own over arcade 20 games. Second, and on a light note, I would like to challenge you to a game of Sega Star Trek to prove that my document is reliable strategy. I am not sure how else to prove that to you.
Lastly, the location of the file is on a website I have owned since 1995. It's a stable location that is not changing (in case that was what you meant by "reliable source"). Thanks Abrondino (talk) 08:59, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Abrondino: - Please see WP:BLOGS and WP:RSSELF - the site doesn't appear to be reliable as it's self-published and no reliable sources seem to have discussed the site. Waxworker (talk) 09:14, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

My source was the three episodes or so of the anime I attributed him to that he was a voice actor for, pulled directly from the credits of said anime. As several(most) of the other VC roles attributed to him didn't have citations, it should have been fine. Additionally, reading through the other notes here on your page, it looks like this is something you do to all newer folk, if you don't happen to agree with the edit or it "doesn't meet your standards". I speak Japanese, can read it rather well, and anyone else who can as well can verify my edits. You not speaking Japanese doesn't mean that my edit was invalid, and this anime has been out for a while now. You can sourcechase it yourself, if you're going to be that critical. Therefore, I'm going to re-add what I'd added, and please leave it alone. 126.197.40.244 (talk) 00:23, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Mumble Bumble page
Hey, Waxworker. In the article for the Mumble Bumble cartoon, none of the mentions of TV stations where the cartoon aired are referenced. Such references are hard to find because some of these stations, such as TV Cultura, do not have any mentions online to having ever aired this cartoon. The information can be found sparsely in the web, such as YouTube videos mentioning old cartoons that used to air in the station, such as one called "O BLOCO PERDIDO DA TV CULTURA - 1,2,3 E JÁ!". 187.18.45.241 (talk) 16:28, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- I've removed the unsourced section - unsourced content can be challenged and removed per WP:BURDEN. If no reliable sources discuss the channels airing it, it shouldn't be on the article. Youtube videos are generally an unreliable source per WP:RSPYT. Waxworker (talk) 16:36, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- I agree with the argument behind this rule but in this case, where an obscure children's cartoon is getting lost to time due to a lack of care by the relevant parts (e.g. the TV channels where it aired not maintaining any easily accessible records about it), I believe it's damaging to the work to remove information that can help people find it over the years, even if it presents a lack of conventional citations. 187.18.45.241 (talk) 16:49, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
I'm a bit confused
If you could, perhaps explain what I could have removed or not done to make the revision acceptable? I was just trying to make the wiki for a game I enjoyed better. Synthenous (talk) 21:19, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
- Please see WP:VGSCOPE - excessive gameplay detail is discouraged, specifically "Lists of gameplay items", a table of maps in the game is unnecessary. The table was also unsourced - per WP:VERIFY, reliable sources need to be cited to verify information. The succinct paragraph currently on the article summarizes the game well, although outdated in regards to describing the "dynamic campaign" system. Waxworker (talk) 02:32, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

I've run IAbot on the Spider-Man games to archive links. You also removed magazine refs with dead links - this is inappropriate as including a URL in magazine refs is optional, and just helps with WP:SOURCEACCESS and verifiability, just as a book may be cited without linking to the full text. About you reversing my edits...
Hi there. I'm BinbowsArc. I noticed you constantly reversing my edits to List of erotic video games because they're unsourced. Personally, I think this is a bit unfair, since I included Citation needed, which is to request editors to add sources if possible. It's a template meant to be replaced, not undid. It's also worth noting that I'm a beginner editor, and I'm willing to hear your side. BinbowsArc (talk) 17:57, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- Please see WP:BURDEN, which says that "All content must be verifiable. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material" - adding citation needed is generally done for existing content, not added in the same edit as the unsourced content. Waxworker (talk) 18:06, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- Guess that's fair. I'll try to search the internet more for sources next time. BinbowsArc (talk) 18:08, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- In the case of Kanon, you could look over the sources on the article for something to cite - note that the wikilink itself isn't a source per WP:CIRCULAR, but something like a review cited on the page like the Famitsu review would work. Waxworker (talk) 18:17, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- Guess that's fair. I'll try to search the internet more for sources next time. BinbowsArc (talk) 18:08, 28 May 2023 (UTC)

re: Steve Blum Diablo 4 credit reverted
My source is the end credits in Diablo IV after you complete the campaign. I don't know the intricacies of adding credits to voice actors/etc. on Wikipedia, so this wasn't done maliciously. Here's a screenshot: https://puu.sh/JIoue/d15b9c210d.jpg StarGryfn (talk) 09:50, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- The credits themselves can be cited, but this is a primary source; a secondary source such as BTVA is preferable, partially since it's easier to verify. I've restored the Diablo IV credit with an inline cite to BTVA - the source verifies the Mephisto role, but not Hatred. Waxworker (talk) 23:49, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

About the voice actor pages
I'm very sorry for adding unsourced or poorly sourced contents like that. I thought they were the right ones from the Creepy Crawlers (TV series) page, but I guess I was wrong. Please forgive me. 172.13.193.84 (talk) 17:22, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
Question
Why did you revert my edit on Mona Marshall? I wasn’t vandalizing it, I was only adding her date of birth. Now people won’t know when she’s born. Can adding something be vandalism or disruptive editing? I hope not. I just joined Wikipedia this year, and I need to learn a little bit more.2600:4040:403A:8500:B59A:9776:AA23:CF18 (talk) 02:33, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- Biographies have stringent sourcing standards - see WP:BLP and specifically WP:DOB, unsourced content should be removed "removed immediately and without waiting for discussion". Reliable sources must be cited in your edits. Waxworker (talk) 23:35, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- I didn’t know that. Thanks for letting me know. 😉 2600:4040:403A:8500:B59A:9776:AA23:CF18 (talk) 00:45, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
You just committed minor vandalism on the Sunkist page.

- It's not vandalism to remove unsourced content - see WP:NOTVAND. It isn't mentioned in the 'Dr Pepper Snapple Group' ref already on the article, I've since added an inline ref discussing it. A Walmart product listing is not a reliable source. Waxworker (talk) 15:54, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Citations
For citations, the URL link has been removed but I've hard copies to verify the information. How do I get this information verified? Dubuham (talk) 13:36, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
Unity Engine used by Yonder game
Hi, you reverted my addition of the Unity Engine being used by Yonder, due to "unsourced". I don't think this needs to be sourced, as there is a massive "made with Unity" logo which appears every time you start the game. So the information is taken from the game itself, I don't know how I would specify this in a citation (and it would be superfluous anyway)? Kidburla (talk) 15:48, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Kidburla: - I restored the engine with a ref from IGN Spain mentioning it, even if a splash screen noting Unity appears when starting the game I think a ref's necessary for more readily available verification, and it's verifiable without owning the game. Why are you preventing documentation of Toy Tinker Introduction?
Hey. So, can you explain to me WHY we cann't mention the "From all of us to all of you"'s introduction to Toy Tinkers in the Toy Tinker article? Is it that you doubt the existence? Or that this is not cannonical material from the original release? Or is it that somebody may have forged these animation segments in the disney style to mis-inform the public? It is hard to document by citations, but there's no doubt that this animation exists -- we can all see it online. And we can all see that it was cut by Disney to be part of Toy Tinkers at one point.
