I noted your excellent contribution to the article on Cobbett. I think you might be interested in my book, Music for the Love of it: Episodes in Amateur Music-Making, which has a chapter about Cobbett, with a lot of new material about the man. The book is intended for a popular audience, so I took out all the citations. But if you need them, I can send you a pdf with all the citations in it.

Thanks for your great work. Ravpapa (talk) 05:07, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

John Sykes (disambiguation)

Please note that disambiguation pages like John Sykes (disambiguation) are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:

 • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
 • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
 • Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
 • Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
 • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
 • Do not insert external links or references - Wikipedia is not a business directory
 • Do not add articles to acronym or initials disambiguation pages unless the person or entity is widely known by that name (in which case it should be stated in the linked article).

Thank you. Leschnei (talk) 14:27, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Basil Deane

With regard to this – for which many thanks – I was tempted somewhat unencyclopedically to add: my copy of which CD just turned up yesterday and is now being listened to! Dear Basil – such a nice bloke. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 11:30, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Great, thanks for the comment - in the process of getting that CD for myself! Sfjohna (talk) 12:52, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

collection of British music

Thank you for quality articles about 20th century music and older, such as Carnegie Collection of British Music, Herbert Bedford and Freya Waley-Cohen, for improving Egon Wellesz and Society for the Promotion of New Music, for "I try to apply deep research", - John, you are an awesome Wikipedian!

You are recipient no. 2478 of Precious, a prize of QAI. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:22, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much! Lovely to be noticed. John Sfjohna (talk)
You are welcome, - I smiled when I saw that I welcomed you, - had forgotten that bit. You - and especially your topics - would be noticed more if you'd show them on the Main page, in the DYK section, did you know? Let me know when you write a new one with more than 1500 characters of prose and decently referenced, and I'll take care of the first nomination. Looking at some of your productions, I thought they might profit from just a bit more lead and an infobox, - compare Wellesz and Max Reger which you are welcome to expand also. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:20, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I hadn't ever thought about "Did You Know", will certainly let you know when there's s new entry (I have several new subjects in mind). One possible might be Spike Hughes, a fascinating character who wrote the first opera specifically made for television as early as 1938 (not Amahl and the Night Visitors which most people cite as the first). But as you point out, it could do with a longer intro and a box, which I will add and then let you know - the Reger one is good. (Reger's Romantic Suite, in the Schoenberg chamber ensemble arrangement, is a favourite of mine by the way). Thanks again. Sfjohna (talk)
Fine, only I was probably not clear: it would really have to be new topics, not older than 7 days, so better not older than 3 days when telling me, because I'll need some time to look into it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:09, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from The Country Wife into William Wycherley. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from page name; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted copied template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 14:37, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

List of émigré musicians + Lasker?

Hello. I was wondering whether you thought that Anita Lasker-Wallfisch should perhaps be included in List of émigré musicians from Nazi Europe who settled in Britain? I nearly edited her in myself, but (a) I've got a bit of a COI and (b) I wasn't exactly sure what your vision would be for the development of this list, so thought it maybe better not to stick my oar in too precipitately. Autopatrolled

Hi Sfjohna, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed' and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned prolific creators of articles where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! – Joe (talk) 14:24, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Danners430 (talk) 14:07, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

okay - trouble with me is I tend to use lots of small edits, makes it harder to write sensible comments (I try always to click "minor edit" for smaller corrections). But you are right, and I will try. Thanks Sfjohna (talk) 14:11, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Name of Wikipedia page for A. L. Bacharach

You are correct — there was no noteworthy A. L. Bacharach who wrote in German. The mistake I made was probably that I incorrectly wrote down the publication year of one the German translations of Bacharach's books on music & believed that the erroneous year (because too early) indicated that the German translation was an original work by another A. L. Bacharach — very bad editing on my part. If you want to change the name of the article back to "A. L. Bacharach", then that might be preferable — although I generally prefer full names to names with initials for the titles of Wikipedia pages. Suslindisambiguator (talk) June 1, 2023

Invitation

Hello Sfjohna!

 • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
 • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
 • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
 • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
 • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!
