Thank you for dropping by...have a nice day!

Look below to see if I have a separate talk page set up for your topic. Currently there are separate talk pages for Films, Userboxes, and Wold Newton with more to come.

Please place all of your Xanth questions and comments here...

Your qustion: A long long time ago in a comment on the talk page of the Xanth series, you placed two links to pages that are redirects now. I was wondering if you would be offended if I removed the links (and left plain text). This is part of my effort to clean up stray links to redirect pages regarding the Xanth series. Please let me know on my talk page. Lady Aleena 21:21, 25 February 2006 (UTC) PS. I forgot to specify, the links were to Crunch and Dor. They are both handled elsewhere.[reply]

Doesn't bother me. RJFJR 13:14, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any chance seeing you seem to be very much envolved in completing some of these articles about the books of Piers Anthony. Most are just skeletons. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:23, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have followed the life of these articles with interest and added what I can, when I can. However I must reguster my protest and the move of the character section into a template. The Novels standard article pattern has been developed to give a general style and guidelines for this type of article and it includes a perfectly good apporach for including a character section. This allows to list to vary and describe the characters relative to the novel in question. In addition I find the particular template format not helpful, and a little cumbersome.

Please let me suggest two things. Can the character template be for major characters and use a similar style to the novel series template. And then return the standard 'Character is "Novel title"' section for the more detailed listing. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 10:27, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for your response, Ok let's run with the template idea for now and see where it gets us. I'm still not totally convinced but there we go. The yellow is not a problem, it is ok with me, being a nice-ish clean, primary colour. The new layout you gave is slightly better in my view too. However the "boxy" nature is still a problem, not made nicer by it's placing on the right. Perhaps we could flush it left and place it in the article where a "traditional" 'Characters in "Novel title"' section would normally go, even using that heading as an anchor for the template. If you can't visualise what I mean let me know and I will mock it up on one of the articles. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 11:42, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That is a lot, lot better. Still not sure about the total concept or whether we can do without the heading. Let's leave it for now and go with as is. What is needed now is more editorial content, templates are all very well but what most are after coming to these articles is textual information, reading matter on the content, significance and other aspects of the novels. I would encourage more of this type of content if you can manage it. Things like "==Major themes==" "==Allusions/references to other works==" "==Literary significance & criticism==" "==Awards and nominations==" are obvious headings that could and probably should be added and developed. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 12:28, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Only problem with that is there appears to be no one stepping up for the task, If you have read them, you appear to be the best qualified. At least put a short introduction, or summary to each one. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 13:14, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Xanth PseudoWikiProject

Hey there. Just wanted to give you a "hello" and say that if you're interested, I'm trying to get together a group to work on Xanth pages (potentially aiming towards a WikiProject). Drop by the talk page and let me know if you're interested! --Avery W. Krouse 06:03, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are doing a fantastic work on the Xanth pages. Once I get ahold of my books, I can start adding more myself. My Visual Guide to Xanth is calling, hehe. --Avery W. Krouse 18:52, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Xanth and article headings

Thanks for your complement about the "headings" in the Xanth articles - however I can't truely take credit for them - they are just part of the standard Novel article headings for use on all Novel articles. Perhaps you would like to make use of the full set or at least an appropiate cutdown of them. You will find our article pattern here - Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/ArticleTemplate. How you find that useful - it might actually prompt a few lines of thought for things to include in the article themselves. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 17:50, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Lady Aleena, Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello, bonjour, salut, privyet, konichiwa, shalom, hola, salve, sala'am, bonjourno, and hi! I'm Sputnik. I noticed that you were new and/or have yet to receive any messages so I just thought I'd pop in to say "hello". We're glad to have you in our community! I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it's so big but we won't bite so Be Bold and get what you know down in microchips! If you do make a mistake, that's fine, we'll assume good faith and just correct you: it'll take a few seconds maximum! I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful. If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you. Here are a few links to get you started:
And remember:
 • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
 • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.
 • P.S. I'm happy to help new users. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need help with anything or simply wish to say hello. :)

Happy Wiki-ing!

Queen disambig

Hello. Thanks for not making a big deal of it. Of course it would have been better to message you but I edited at least 20 such pages and to wait for replies etc. would have taken a long time, this way its done and I can move on to other things. Thanks again, Mark83 19:01, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in that category because I am a PRIVATE pilot. However, this is not my profession, I am a software engineer if you ask about that one. I agree that "...by stuff" is a bit vague, but what you suggest instead is plain wrong in this case. Please consider something better or revert. TIA, --BACbKA 08:51, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I moved it into a subcat of "...interested in aviation" and removed the "...profession" affiliation (the "by profession" cat stays that the wikipedians have indicated their profession by including themselves, and, as I have just said earlier, it's wrong at least in my case). --BACbKA 09:25, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Page Move

"I renamed Earth 2 (television series) to Earth 2 (TV series)"

For some reason I found it very considerate that you should alert me to the page move (how unusual). So...thanks!

Page Blanking

On 08-Feb, you blanked Probe (TV Series). Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I've reverted it to the previous version. Redirects from page moves usually do not need to be removed, but if you believe this one should be deleted, please follow the redirection section of the deletion procedures. RE: The Sentinel (TV series), I need some help

Hey, sorry for the late reply. It seems you had good intentions in your edit but it seems you made the bullet points using raw HTML, with <ul>s, <li>s and all. The use of raw HTML to format text is generally discouraged on Wikipedia, favouring formatting with wiki-syntax. For example, in the source, the wiki syntax for bullet points looks like this:

* This is a point
* This is another point.

which comes out as:

 • This is a point
 • This is another point.

For ordered, or numbered lists, you use hashes:

# This is point number 1
# This is the second point

which comes out as:

 1. This is point number 1
 2. This is the second point

And finally, if you want to indent numbering into bullet points (like you did in your edit), you do this:

* Numbered heading as a bullet point
:# Numbered point under heading
:# Second numbered point under heading

which comes out as:

 • Numbered heading as a bullet point
 1. Numbered point under heading
 2. Second numbered point under heading

There. So make your edit again, but use wiki syntax to format the lists instead of HTML this time. By the way, I don't think that user should have reverted the edit, rather, he should have fixed it himself. -- Daverocks (talk) 05:17, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I prefer using HTML and CSS too. I also understand that it would have been impossible to lay out the lists like you did side-by-side in wiki code. If CSS is necessary to design certain things in articles, then I think it can be used, but probably should be avoided if possible. For example, if you take a look at the source of the Main Page, it looks like they've used divs and CSS to format certain things. Try negotiating with User:Andromeda, but at the same time, keep cool and try not to get into a bitter dispute. -- Daverocks (talk) 07:38, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I saw he reverted your earlier changes as well. I mean, you're bound to get into edit disputes. It's really annoying how some people feel they "own" a page (particularly one they work on a lot) and go crazy when someone else touches it. I'm not referring specifically to The Sentinel but you get the idea. It's difficult to allow and accept other people's changes when you work on those types of pages, but I'm sure you'll be able to work something out. It's a good idea to try to make a compromise on layout with him, and I don't think you should start using that layout in other articles if it's already causing problems now. -- Daverocks (talk) 11:08, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adjacent columns with wiki templates

Hey again, I thought you might be interested in a section of an article which uses wiki templates to format side-by-side columns, $100 laptop#External links. A part of the source looks like this:

col-begin
col-2
*$100 Laptop Project's web site
*OLPC Wiki at MIT
*Annan presents prototype $100 laptop at World Summit on Information Society - MIT press release
*Pledge to buy a retail laptop and subsidize OLPC's efforts
col-2
Audio/video
*Video of Negroponte speech, September 28, 2005 (RealVideo, 55:23)
*Audio of Negroponte's $100 Laptop Presentation
*The $100 Laptop: An Up-Close Look - Web video of the first laptop prototype, by Andy Carvin
*Negroponte discusses One Laptop Per Child (MP3), South China Morning Post, December 6, 2005
col-end

And so it seems that it is possible to format columns this way, using templates like Col-begin, Col-2, and Col-end. However, it's not much different, as the templates themselves are CSS. Just thought I'd let you know. -- Daverocks (talk) 08:58, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Sentinel (TV series) Style disagreement

Hello Lady Aleena, I'm very sorry I forget to send you a reply until now... So, I've taken a look at your edit on The Sentinel (TV series) and I think the content you wanted to add (episode lists) is useful to expand the article and should have not been reverted. What was probably wrong with your edit is the use of html style tags: however I see from the above messages by User:Daverocks that you should be able to format the text using wiki-code the same way you did with html, so this should solve the problem.

Also try to find out why User:Andromeda did a whole revert of your edit? Was it just because of html usage or did Andromeda think the content was not suitable for the article? Berserker79 15:15, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"sig buggy"

I see you added a comment to Wikipedia:Village pump (miscellaneous) (which I've answered) to which you appended the comment "(sig buggy)". I think you might be interested on Wikipedia:How to fix your signature.

Tagging for clean-up

Hello there...I noticed that you tagged all of the character articles for Xanth for clean-up. I removed them and added a line about the basis for the list articles to those pages. I realize that they need a lot more work, but right now they are the foundation of what is being built. Please check back in a week to see our progress. If you still think they need work, tag them again. :) Lady Aleena (sig buggy)

 • The context tag is not as clear as it could be. All I was asking was that the words characters of the Xanth series by Piers Anthony should appear in the first paragraph. You have done that so I am now happy and have no further complaints about the articles. -- RHaworth 00:26, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikifying

This is in regards to your article The Bionic series; per your request on your User Page, could you please explain why you don't want to use wikipedia code? It's just going to end up being wikified by me or someone else. Pages need to conform and as it stands now, the coding is a mess. Also, I suggest you review Wikipedia etiquette and revise your Userpage note -- please remember no one "owns" the articles on these pages. At any time they can be rewritten, reverted, and completely changed by anyone. (Please respond on my talk page). 23skidoo 17:08, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can't go around modifying Wikipedia rules to meet your comfort level. It just makes it a real pain for the rest of us. If you want to create your own HTML wiki site, you're certainly free to do so. In the meantime, I will be wikifying the Bionic article (and any others I stumble across with HTML) as this is the way things are here. If you have an issue with the use of Wikipedia coding, I suggest taking it up with Jimbo Wales or the Village Pump. 23skidoo 19:48, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The introduction needs to be expanded and there is material here that can be deleted since it's already included in other articles, otherwise it looks exactly the same. I do believe, however, that it is against Wikipedia format (better check the Style Guide) to have two images side-by-side like that. I'll have to investigate further. As it stands, it looks awkward because of the TOC. 23skidoo 20:06, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If wikicoding is causing your dial-up to slow down (though I'm still surprised anyone is still on dialup -- that's not a dig against you, as I keep seeing this even though broadband and cable is often less expensive, but a lot of places still don't have it), I suggest making comments to this effect in the Bug reports section of Wikipedia or Community Portal. Maybe if enough people comment about this there might be some improvements made, though the Internet as a whole is not slowing down for dial-up or modem users to catch up -- I'm on a cable modem and I'm finding it to be too slow for a lot of pages now. As far as setting up your own Wiki, I've heard of people being able to do it free of charge but I have no idea how to set it up. The coding is available from here, but unless you're able to find a Geocities or Lycos willing to give you a large amount of free space I agree I'm not sure how it would work. I was just foolin' with you on that. Personally, I also work with HTML to a limited extent and I find Wikipedia's version to be far simpler and more efficient, especially when it comes to linking to other articles. But it's only intended as an internal coding, not something to go elsewhere. 23skidoo 20:29, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I only know a little HTML, and the Wikicoding is there for a reason, so I wouldn't support an HTML movement. IMO it works better than HTML and if there's a speed issue, that's something that needs to be rectified at another level. I do like your IM idea, however, although Talk Pages allow archiving of messages, which IM does not. Also, since people around the world use Wikipedia, IM might not be practical (I tried to set up IM with members of a couple of Yahoo Groups but dropped the idea because it's hard to do it when you're in Canada and you're trying to IM someone in India. 23skidoo 17:19, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Magazine images

Hiya. There has been a big thing recently about magazine covers and fair use. Fair use only applies if the actual product itself is being discussed. The product was a TV guide -- not V. If the article discussed the TV Guide's treatment of V (if it were sufficiently notable), then that would be fair use. Hope this makes sense. If not, I can point yoi in the direction of relevant discussions. It is controversial, with imagephiliacs (?) claiming admins are being heavy-handed, etc. The JPS talk to me 16:54, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tristam

Hi. Yeah that's me. The template I created has a "Computer and video game template" category attached to it, which I think is a good category for it. However, that category carries through to all pages I place the template on as a category in each of those pages. I was wondering how I could keep it in the template itself but remove it from the individual pages (the category is not listed in the code on those pages, so I don't know how to remove it). Thanks! --Tristam 06:37, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The template in question is Template:Chocobo series, while the page in question is Chocobo Racing. However, I haven't saved my edits to the Chocobo Racing page (it isn't completed), and so it won't show up there yet.

Ah, absolutely perfect. Thank you!

Friday the 13th TV series

Yes, I am aware of the connection, and I also understand it to be an unconfirmed rumour. The idea that it is tied to Jason's hockey mask gives way to the suspicion as any fan of the film series will tell you that the hockey mask didn't appear until the last third of Part 3. Additionally, by the time the TV series was cancelled, Jason was up to at least his third mask as of 1989's Jason Takes Manhattan. --Bacteria 02:59, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, no, dear Alee, I can't believe I missed your birthday! :( I hope you forgive me, hun - let me try and repay you with a *heap* of flowers, both for your bday and the beautiful gift you so kindly gave me! Btw, it's so great to see that many people notice your extremely hard work. You deserve big credit and praising for it. I'm so sorry I couldn't help but to a minimal extent - the last days have been kinda hard in terms of finding time to do more than just some superficial editing to me. But I am sure that, considering your expertise in the matter, as well as my utter amateurism, maybe it was for the best of WP... I can't even think how embarrased I'd be to see you rectifying my mistakes! Anyway, Alee, hope you had an awesome bday, and that you're enjoying the summer. Big hugs! space stations

Good question. I would say that just because a body CAN take up orbit around another doesn't make it a satellite. So Centerpoint Station isn't in orbit around anything, but it could be. And Nightmare's Fortress is just "in space." Space Mountain represents another problem: It's locked right here on earth, but it's definitely a space station. So I'm not sure exactly where you're trying to put this, but it might be a thorny category when you do. Hope that helps!--Mike Selinker 13:35, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That group of three cats originally was for any type of userspace archive/directory, they're just a bit long-winded. DRV thing

Hi,

If it makes you feel any better, remember I wrote "restored and userfied" -- there was a consensus the speedies were out-of-process. After restoring them, I made a judgment call that it was better to userfy per GUS than to list at TfD. I did this because, although GUS isn't "policy" yet, it is gaining consensus as the solution to a very tense problem. If I had relisted at TfD, the result would have been the same, and much more friction would have been generated in the meantime. I am a process-follower, but I don't follow it needlessly -- in this case, userfication was the best option for all.

I didn't do anything a typical user couldn't do, really. Unless a page is move-protected, anybody can move it at anytime (of course, userfying pages for no reason would be disruptive.) In the case of a User Template, though, I encourage people to userfy without hopping through TfD: Just move the thing to user-space (my userspace, if you'd like), and then mark the redirects as CSD R2 speedies. Best wishes, Xoloz 23:56, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stargate Atlantis

Hi

Not complaining or anything, but what is the source of the Atlantis Glyph? It looks amazingly like the Earth symbol?

Thanks. Pydos 08:42, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No i wasn't sure either. However if you check the address from Earth to Atlantis (see at Atlantis (Stargate)) it shows this as the seventh symbol. Carter speculates in The Fifth Race that this is the galaxy symbol when dialing 8 symbols, then followed by the normal Tau'ri symbol for point of origin. Sound good enough? Pydos
Yeah i know - i thought that in the meanwhile we could use the symbol for the Pegasus galaxy - just until we see the proper symbol from Atlantis. Sound ok?

Userboxen

I created a script that will autoreplace these things. Go to User:BigDT/monobook.js, click view source, and copy the whole thing to User:Lady Aleena/monobook.js. It will give you a little button over on the left hand side of your screen in the "toolbox" that says "Temp replace image". I've set it up to replace User GMT with GMT, but it could just as easily be used to make any other replacement. (You will also get some cool image deletion buttons if you copy the whole thing. If you don't want them, remove the part from Howcheng in your copy of it.) BigDT 13:08, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template problems

These really should be listed INDIVIDUALLY on the page so they can be found. Standard procedure seems to be listing them individually. You can hardly expect someone to hunt thru to find your little sub page and then hunt thru it for their template. Please be more considerate of other users in the future. Wikipedia is hard enought to navigate and find things like this as it is. Zotel - the Stub Maker 13:39, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Javascript-assisted template substitution

Hey- please get another copy of the script from my monobook. A concern was expressed to me that the edits need to be marked as "minor" so that users running RC patroll can ignore them. Optionally, instead of updating your script, on your preferences screen, you can just check "Mark all edits minor by default". BigDT 17:50, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 • One other question - what are you doing about instances where the person uses babel? See [1] and look at anyone who is still using the template. I have replaced everything that can be replaced, but there is nothing that can be done for someone with babel - that template just takes a template name and doesn't do parameters. BigDT 18:59, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE:LOTR Templates

I'm sorry that you don't like GUS. But, it has been endourced by Jimbo as the right way to do things. And, to top it off, the two main deletionist admins (Tony and Cyde) have both endorsed GUS, saying that is the only way these userboxes (all of them) are going to survive. If you want to merge the templates, feel free to edit them where they are now, it won't make a difference. I have already bypassed all the redirects (almost 500), so I'm not going to move them back. And if you ready WP:GUS, you would have noticed it said just do it. What you're looking for is this, which was already rejected. -Royalguard11TalkMy Desk 15:39, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, ever since AP.BOT made a mess of my CSI template, I have been feeling a little nonplussed. A little bit confused and not sure how to react. Streuth! Do I thank the bloke? Or do I simply treat it as a joke? To be more accurate, I was left stumped and speechless that anyone would, on the innocent pretence that they are "updating userbox drive", not take a look at their "good work" (which was a tangled mess of "I don't know which word to use") and leave it as such. But thankyou Jesus for somebody like you, Lady Aleena. I thank you. You are from now on my "honorary authorised personnel" at both my user and user talk pages at anytime.

Hey fellow Wikipedian! Your username is listed on the WikiProject Films participants list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active on the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:FILM editor, please add your name to the Active Members list. You may also wish to add User WikiProject Films to your userpage, if you haven't done so already. We also have several task forces that you may be interested in joining as well.

Also, elections for Project Coordinators are currently in sign-up phase. If you would be interested in running, or would like to ask questions of the candidates, please take a look. You can see more information on the positions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Coordinators. Thanks and happy editing!

List of film hexologies and larger series

Shouldn't Star Trek have been moved back to ten films rather than deleted entirely? --Falcadore 09:34, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ooops, my bad, did not notice you were deleting a double up. Delete these comments at your leisure. --Falcadore 09:37, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the names of film trilogies

I've started a another discussion about the naming conventions for film series: Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (films)#Renaming of trilogies. Generally, I oppose them. But there's always room for discussion, which is the point of this message after all. ;) — WiseKwai 12:23, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notice to all members of WikiProject Maryland

There are a few things going on right now in WikiProject Maryland that I thought all members should know about, especially the first one.

 • Not too long ago, Marylandstater raised the question of exactly how many members of the project are still active. For this reason, I'm asking everyone who is still active, and wants to remain in the project, to put an asterisk (*) after their username on the project's participants list. You have until the end of November 17, 2007 to do so, sometime after that, all the names that do not have an asterisk will be removed. This is just to clean up the ever expanding list. If you've been gone and come back to find that you've been removed from the list, don't take it personally, just re-add yourself! I won't feel bad at all if no one gets removed, in fact, it would be nice if all 30 members still consider themselves active. Also, this won't affect the two subprojects, but speaking of the subprojects...
 • As of sometime next week WikiProject Baltimore City College will be no more. Myself, Golem88991, and John Carter have decided to make it into a task force of WikiProject Maryland. If you have any objections, concerns, or comments, please post them in the talk page topic concerning this.

Now for the exiting news:

 • I'm pleased to announce the creation of the Baltimore Task Force! Those interested in contributing to Wikipedia's numerous articles related to Maryland's largest city, now have a place to collaborate.
 • I'd also like to take this time to propose a project newsletter. Any comments should be directed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Maryland#Newsletter.

A couple last things:

 • The portal is in desperate need of maintenance, anyone who's interested, go check it out.
 • It's probably a good idea to add the project page (and thus the project talk page) to your watchlist. That way, you can easily see when new comments are posted.

I hope you read through all that ;). Thanks to all members for your contributions to the project's articles so far, let's keep up the good work!
Sincerely, -Jeff (talk) 05:39, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
