"Dropenling" is the Tibetan word for:
“giving back for the betterment of all mankind”.

Can you believe it? Finally a pass today!!! Congratulations to us all. BTW, Sholay happened on the same day too. BollyJeff | talk 22:56, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Woke up to this wonderful news. PC is FA now and one of the greatest Indian film also passed on the same day. Congratulations Blofeld. I'm very Happy!—Prashant 03:03, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations both!! And I'm proud of you Prashant that you kept your word and didn't post negative comments on the FAC and as a resulted you've been rewarded. It doesn't make what happened originally fine, but I understand that this is a learning curve for you and I hopefully you'll continue to flourish as an editor and over time learn to function differently. A hearty well done! Yes, way too late for TFA, but maybe you could consider the fact that it passed on her birthday something special and wait until next year?Tibetan Prayer 10:04, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we will wait for the next year. That would be fine.—Prashant 17:47, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewers

Are there no short disgruntled reviewers? That reads like heightism to me ;) - Sitush (talk) 08:38, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I can barely read my text! Colours are iffy, TP. - Sitush (talk) 08:39, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to change it to black, I can't remember what is what in the coding!Tibetan Prayer 08:42, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't know how to do that - I'm a twit, remember. As for the phrase, dear old Eric would probably use "long-disgruntled reviewers": the reviewers have been disgruntled for a long time, rather than lengthy reviewers have been disgruntled. He gave me a lesson on adjectival hyphenation recently :) - Sitush (talk) 08:52, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wearing one of my old man-of-the-match shirts, standing at the back. That will be the only view of me that Joyson has had. - Sitush (talk) 09:02, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, and good ole Mal in front of you too!Tibetan Prayer 09:04, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, since the following have all self-identified themselves in the past wrt this photo, Boing! said Zebedee is sat to my left (right of me in the photo), wearing blue stripey shirt, Iridescent is talking to Mal and Harry Mitchell is listening to the pair of them. I could name the others but it would be outing. A good time was had by all. Hic. - Sitush (talk) 09:10, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Never liked Iridescent, sorry..Tibetan Prayer 07:35, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia!

LOL at first I really thought "Tibetan Prayer" was a new editor! Turns out to be you. Why the name change? To be honest I prefer "Dr. Blofeld" but well it's your decision. Cheers, ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble08:43, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I may still think of a slight name change with the Tibetan theme we'll see.Tibetan Prayer 08:55, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if the Tibetan-themed name "Dalai Llama" would anger anybody.... ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble09:00, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think so LOL. Or "His Hairiness"Tibetan Prayer 09:07, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

All reminds me of a joke a friend used to say when he headed off to bed - "And saw Tibet". And of course, Ogden Nash's "The one l lama/He's a priest/The two l-llama/He's a beast/And I will bet a silk pajama/There ain't any Three l-lllama." Mabalu (talk) 09:12, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Namaste!

A Tulku reincarnation before our very eyes. How wonderful! -- Nelson Mandala

Thanks Nelson!Tibetan Prayer 08:55, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I thought you'd been vandalised!

Apologies. New name to get used to! Mabalu (talk) 09:10, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, it's an old account originally named "Himalayan Explorer", and also means that I can now upload in the commons without the broken account link. I'm thinking of renaming it back to Himalayan Explorer. Tibetan Prayer 09:15, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Name change

Not sure I'm happy with this name. But I want something based around the Tibetan/Himalayan theme. I was considering move it to Himalayan but I think if I move it'll break the unified account with the commons. Any suggestions anybody?

  • Himalayan
  • Himalayan Explorer
  • Dalai Llama
  • His Hairiness
  • Bearded Yak
  • Yeti Hunter
  • The Abominable Snowman
  • Everest
  • Lalai Dama
  • Tulku
  • Ernst Rinpoche
  • Abbot of Shalu
  • Temple Balls
  • Yakety Yak

Doctor Ohm? Mabalu (talk) 09:25, 17 July 2013 (UTC) (Too close to the old incarnation?)[reply]

I vote for Dalai Lllama cos' it's my idea hurhurhur. But honestly it really does sound better than the rest. Second choice of mine would be "His Hairiness". Cheers, ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble09:27, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think I like Himalayan Explorer and Everest the most, but I'll keep it as this for the time being.Tibetan Prayer 09:33, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reincarnation is a cool idea so hello Tibetan Prayer. "A rose by any other name..." so it doesn't matter to me what name you choose, I'm just glad you are here and in such great spirits. Perhaps Tibetan will make a different decision about dyk than Dr. B; time will tell. Namaste. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:24, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I like this user name better as we have done more than 25 articles on Tibet, Bhutan and also India on Buddhist monasteries under this name in the past, and also few GAs. Any way you are inspired more by Tibet than any other place. We will continue to work together whether it is Dr. B or User:Tibetan Prayer. Cheers.--Nvvchar. 05:06, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Withdrawal from DYK

I was very sorry to see you had decided to withdraw from DYK contributions. I realize this is the result of the heated discussion on the DYK talk page about Mink industry in Denmark but I nevertheless think it is a mistake. Your contributions over the years have not only been interesting in their own right but have inspired many other Wikipedians to participate, myself included. The reactions of a handful of reviewers should not be sufficient to put a end to this valiant enterprise. One of the major areas of new article contributions has been in translating articles from the other wikis. This has been a most important area and I have tried to participate from time to time, even if I have often been bogged down in other assignments. I hope we can continue to work in this area, with or without DYK. And as for the name change, I know Himalayan Explorer from one of your previous incarnations, so would certainly support a resurrection. --Ipigott (talk) 14:07, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be sorry, really, it doesn't make a blind bit of difference. I'll still gladly support Nvv and Rosie and work with them and I'm sure that they'll nominate our articles at least until they pass 1000 DYKs so nothing changes at present but me not being credited. I've long hoped we can move away from DYK and find some exciting new challenges which can showcase our best work and talents, didn't you notice that I already proposed a start towards changes even before this broke out? See this as the start of a new phase.Tibetan Prayer 16:38, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly agree DYK is hardly the best way to encourage editors to create interesting new articles. It's an extremely heavy process which frightens most people away. If the leads (or first couple of lines) of new articles were to be written effectively, there would be no need for a hook. And as for the review process, why not adopt the "like" approach which is becoming so popular in other areas. Then everyone could participate.--Ipigott (talk) 08:47, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of the editors I know working on GA and FA never bother with DYK and think of it as a "not so much Did You Know but a Did You Care?" and I must admit if I really look at DYK I feel the same way with most of the hooks, like "DYK that Joe Turner was coach of the Stanford college basketball team for three years before becoming its president"? sort of thing. I don't honestly think anybody but fanatics are really titillated by every DYK hook on a daily basis. But that in no way changes how I feel about the amount of effort going into producing a variety of articles and the respect for contributors who bother with DYK, whatever Tony, Sandy and the others may say, a lot of good work is put through DYK before taking to GA, and some already pass GA before showcasing. For me though DYK has always been about showing what editors have been working on and improving and it is important I think to show this and encourage new editors to produce. However, I don't think the hook format is the best way to do it, as the daily main page visitors versus the visitors to the articles, only about 1500 in 1 million people actually look at them. DYK in my opinion needs to be rebooted with a new format which really encourages high quality contributions by a monthly competition for best articles and some sort of foundation funded prize like Amazon vouchers which in turn can be used to buy books. Many of the existing DYK problems though are caused by its petty rules. I think the 5 day window and the 5 x expansion often affects the quality of content by rushing and unnecessary bloat. Wikipedia editing shouldn't be about meeting deadlines.Tibetan Prayer 08:56, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know much about DYK politics, but I like to go there when I have something that's got an unusually great hook (though recent Nell Donnelly Reed gangster rescue hook will take some topping!) and/or feel I've done a good article. My subjects (fashion) tend to be underrepresented in DYK generally though. Mabalu (talk) 09:21, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we must do more work on the fashion articles, an under-represented subject on here.Tibetan Prayer 09:31, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I totally understand TB. I recently left DYK too. PumpkinSky talk 09:55, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to hear that Pumpkin, another quality editor gone from DYK... I completely agree with you user page notice Pumpkin, most of the hardship on here could be avoided if people assumed good faith and supported one another. People seem to relish picking holes in the work of others and ignore the vast majority of work which is very good. I think it says much about these sort of people's toxic personalities... Tibetan Prayer 10:01, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, and best wishes to you. PumpkinSky talk 13:09, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Best wishes from me, too, in your new reincarnation! -- Khazar2 (talk) 18:08, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Barnstar!

Hi! (what should I call you? TP or Blofeld). Thanks for the barnstar. Well I'm traveling and my admission process is over. Thanks for being such an incredible person in my life. For my mistakes, well I learned everything just because of you and my other friend Bollyjeff. Hope we collaborate soon! —Prashant 15:44, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You'll always be Dr. B for us. I have a request, would you please look at Chopra filmography. A prose check and tightening would be fine. I'll nominate win few days.—Prashant 17:44, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Geography of Franz Josef Land

Hours of agonizing work later... Aymatth2 (talk) 12:04, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cropping a .svg is beyond my capability. I generally find a .png, which I can crop, then import into .svg to add labels. But File:Map of Franz Josef Land-en.svg is pure .svg. User:Mysid made it, and may be able to help. Aymatth2 (talk) 11:26, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A combination of Inkscape, which is free and easy for some tasks, and Adobe Illustrator, which is not free but easier for other tasks and less buggy. They both let you edit .svg files. I should learn how to do all I want with just one of them. The basic trick is to make the visible region a rectangle within the larger .svg graphic, then move in the legend boxes and adjust text so it is in the visible area. Objects that are entirely outside the visible region could be deleted to make the file smaller. Aymatth2 (talk) 15:13, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Friedrich Meyer-Oertel, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Elektra (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Dear TP/DB,I wonder if in your new incarnation you might care to revisit the Alkan FA discussion. This got beached a bit after a raft of not always very clear comments, which I think have now all been answered. (Alas in the course of this it has seemed that the Hamelin quote from Japanese TV has had to go). Best, --Smerus (talk) 18:56, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr TP :) feel free to get started on the review anytime. I tried uploading some new photos yesterday but the internet connection is poor these days here in Rwanda. I'll try again, but don't wait for new photos to get the review going. Many thanks for taking it on! -Lemurbaby (talk) 09:09, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats from me, too. I was excited to see this nomination go up and even more excited to see it pass--it's great to see a major city get through GA, in contrast to our usual English manor houses and American train stations . -- Khazar2 (talk) 18:07, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Khazar!! Yup, Marrakesh and Paris passed within the same week. Haven't seen too many English manors going through, but if you'd said "minor road in the northeast of the United States" I'd have agreed!!Tibetan Prayer 18:29, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Response

I was confused about your comment on Crisco 1492's talk page because of the username change. It isn't that I have a problem with you or your articles anymore (I don't hold grudges). My new response on Crisco's talk page is, "Oh, you're Blofeld. Sorry. This discussion isn't that much about you, but I would be lying if I said that I would want to review your articles with everyone else breathing down my back." SL93 (talk) 17:53, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I understand, given the misunderstanding of what our project is about and the backlash which seems to be brewing. But like most things on wikipedia, it is exaggerated, and if you review an article fairly and it seems OK to you, nobody should really yell at you.Tibetan Prayer
