== user script disables all wp javascript, even the editor ==

I tried installing a user script in a new common.js, according to the instructions. My common.js had the line

importScript( 'User:Thespaceface/MetricFirst.js' ); // Backlink: [[User:Thespaceface/MetricFirst.js]]

This script worked as intended, but lots, if not all, of javascript in wikipedia stopped working. The edit page editor appears to use javascript in the code text area, which no longer accepted input, so I couldn't fix it. As I'd just created the page, I couldn't revert it. Stuck. Trapped.

Eventually, I tried the "Mobile view" link at the foot of the page, and the mobile editor let me remove the above, and javascript in wp started working again.

What did I do wrong, or is that user script in error?

    Submitting for peer review

Hi, I am a new editor on wikipedia and am trying to submit a draft for peer review. However whenever I try and add "subst:PR" on the article's talk page I get the immensely confusing error "This template should be substituted on the article talk page." Neonrights (talk) 00:09, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Neonrights: That template is for peer-reviewing articles in main space, apparently, not draft space.
I assume you're referring to Draft:Paraphrase (Computational Linguistics). That's already been submitted for reviewer review, which amounts to the same thing. All you need to do is wait. I'll give it a look right now in fact. ~Anachronist (talk) 00:28, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    I just accepted it. L293D () 02:31, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Neonrights:. When next you write another draft you should use {{Subst:Submit}} inside the article not at talkpage. It will be sent for review. –Ammarpad (talk) 10:33, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will keep that in mind for my next draft. Thanks for the help! Neonrights (talk) 19:55, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is the WIkipedia Help Desk for helping people to use Wikipedia itself. Do you have a question about doing this? If you are seeking factual information you should instead post a clear question on the Wikipedia Reference Desk, as instructed (and linked) at the top of this page.
If it helps, my cursory search suggests that the spelling "Caplinski" is rare: you might find more results with "Kaplinsky" and "Chaplinski" (or "–sky" in both cases). {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.220.212.253 (talk) 15:20, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Voting for an Article’s Deletion

Hi, thanks for fielding my question. I am contributing to an article that was nominated for deletion. Votes are being cast and I want to vote. Can you guide me to where I can learn how, or provide instructions. Thanks ev (talk) 02:41, 22 February 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajahnbrahm1401 (talkcontribs) 02:39, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ajahnbrahm1401: The best place to probably start would be Contributing to AfD discussions let me know if you have any more questions. TheDoctorWho (talk) 02:47, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ajahnbrahm1401—Are you referring to the article titled Emma Gonzalez? I think the discussion you refer to is taking place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Emma Gonzalez. Bus stop (talk) 02:50, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and I successfully voted to KEEP the article. I think too! Thanks to you both for your assistance. I thought I needed some sort of certification to vote. Ah, freedom! ev (talk) 03:52, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For clarification, as explained at Contributing to AfD discussions, it is not a "vote" as such. You will sometimes see users referring to "!vote". What matters is not the "number" of responses on each side but the extent to which the arguments are based on Wikipedia policy. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:40, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • By the way, Ajahnbrahm1401... What you just wrote (I successfully voted to KEEP the article. I think you should too!) is IMO against the Wikipedia policy outlined at WP:CANVASS. In that case it is not a big deal, but keep it in mind next time you want to invite people a Wikipedia discussion in which you are involved. TigraanClick here to contact me 17:20, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tigraan Following your same exact logic, which is pretentious and hypocritical at least, you opining on me opining is also a violation of policy. Is it your opinion that opinions do not exist on Wikipedia? Use of “IMO” doesn’t make it any better. Listen, I’ll leave it at this: I’m offended that you think you can control someone’s opinion and suppress my ability to use this site by referencing policy alone. Feel free to report me if you feel that is appropriate. I will still have opinions, and you will still have an opinion about said opinions. The purpose of AfD discussions is solely to bring them up. ev (talk) 00:13, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ajahnbrahm1401: I suspect you did not read WP:CANVASS. Tigraan is not referring to expressing your opinion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Emma Gonzalez but to asking editors on another page to vote keep. This is against WP:CANVASS which says: "When notifying other editors of discussions, ... keep the message text neutral". PrimeHunter (talk) 01:40, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
PrimeHunter why do you suspect that? And please keep your answer within policy. Respectfully, ev (talk) 01:48, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ajahnbrahm1401: I got the impression you incorrectly thought Tigraan was objecting to your opinion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Emma Gonzalez, and if you had read WP:CANVASS then it would be hard to make that misunderstanding. But maybe you actually disagree that saying "I successfully voted to KEEP the article. I think you should too!" is against WP:CANVASS. It seems clear to me that asking people to vote keep is against "keep the message text neutral". You are an inexperienced editor and not expected to know all policies and guidelines. I think Tigraan said it politely and there was no reason for your impolite reply. It can actually harm your side in a deletion debate if others in the debate discover you have canvassed, so politely pointing out that Wikipedia disallows canvassing (without alerting the others in the debate to it) is a way to help you. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:14, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @PrimeHunter: I changed it. Cogito ergo sum. ev (talk) 02:23, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It was worse. The edit falsified quotes from the subject to make them look bad. This is totally unacceptable for any subject no matter what you think of them. I don't think the ACLU would support it. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:09, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How do I start a page about a person

    Hello,

How would I go about starting a new page about a person — Preceding unsigned comment added by Killah Threat (talkcontribs) 15:00, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Killah Threat. You should probably start by reviewing our tutorial on writing your first article, and if you feel that the individual meets our notability standards for biographies, (which usually requires sustained in-depth coverage in published sources like magazines, newspapers, and books) you can start an article using the Article Wizard and submit it for our Articles for Creation project. There it can be reviewed by an experienced volunteer who can offer feedback prior to publishing. GMGtalk 15:13, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of best- selling albums by year in the United States

List of best-selling albums by year in the United States (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Goodmorning the site List of best- selling albums by year in the United States of you is not correct because I miss Elvis in the list

Elvis has many records to his name. For example 165 songs in the American charts while the nr 2, James Brown, only has 107. When it comes to albums he scores another record with Elvis 30 # 1 Hits in 2002, that of the longest period between his first and his last album top rankings, namely 46 years. According to Billboard's classification system, Elvis has made the most number 1 hits and the most successful albums, making him the most successful artist of all time.

Anja Goedhart — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.201.71.207 (talk) 16:36, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Without going into it in any great detail, perhaps Elvis, despite selling huge amounts of records did not actually have the best-selling album in any one year. The article appears well-referenced. If you have reliably sourced information that states he did do so please feel free to edit the article appropriately (citing your sources... see WP:REFB) or you can propose changes on the article talk page. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 17:02, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed; note the absence of other 60s megastars like the Beatles and the Beach Boys in that list. While Elvis was extremely successful, prior to the CD era the biggest-selling album in any given year was almost always the soundtrack to a popular Broadway show, as they had consistent sales over the entire year rather than a brief spike in the month of release. ‑ Iridescent 17:07, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a page for a nonprofit

    Hello,

I am trying to create a Wikipedia page for a nonprofit called Jails to Jobs. I did this before and it got deleted for copyright issues. I talked to the founder of the nonprofit and he wants to send approval/ copyright rights to Wikipedia for a few specific paragraphs that are used from this webpage and an amazon page (both created by him). He wants to sure that he is only donating those specific paragraphs, and not the whole website content and books content.

Meanwhile, I found the "Donating Copyright Material" Wikipedia page. I used the template provided (Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries) to have him send an email (from a viable, Jails to Jobs email), and I placed {{OTRS pending}} on the article's talk page. However, the Wikipedia page still got deleted and the account I used got deactivated indefinitely.

Can someone help me understand how to do this correctly? We own the information and are happy to donate specific parts of the webpage to be used on Wikipedia. We have not had luck trying to do this due to copyright issues (which I guess is good... thanks for protecting our website info, Wikipedia), but would really like to get a Wikipedia page up and running.

    Help please!

Sarah — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarahrose94 (talkcontribs)

I'd suggest rewriting it in your own words - it shouldn't take that much time and will avoid copyright issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.156.233.252 (talkcontribs)
Hello, Sarah. I haven't found the deletion record for the article (I don't know what it was called, or what you username was) but I would guess that there is a good chance that it wasn't deleted just for copyright issues. Even if you manage to sort those out, I struggle to think of anything from an organisation's website which would be appropriate in a Wikipedia article about it - maybe some images, but little else. I suspect that you have a very common misconception, that it is in any way appropriate for you to create a Wikipedia article about your organisation (a misconception inherent in your choice of words: "create a Wikipedia page for" rather than "create a Wikipedia article about"). If we have an article about Jails to Jobs, it will not belong to the organisation or to you, you will have no control over its content, you will be strongly discouraged from editing it, and very little of its content should come from the organisation or its associates: almost the whole article should be based on, and referenced to, what people who have no connection with the organisation have chosen to publish about it in reliable places such as major newspapers, or books from reputable publishers. Please see CORP, NPOV, PROMOTION and COI. --ColinFine (talk) 21:14, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I looked as well and can find no record of a page called “Jails to Jobs”. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:19, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Found it: Draft:Jails to Jobs. It was twice deleted as a pure copyvio, and the account blocked for violating the TOU, so actually this account is now engaging in block evasion so that’s a problem as well. Paging Yunshui in case they’d like to chime in rather than just reblocking, which in light of this could happen at any time. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:23, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The article was Draft:Jails to Jobs, which was deleted for copyright infringement both times. The blocked account is User:SarahatJailstoJobs. Sarah: I'll ping Yunshui, the deleting and blocking admin. Hopefully he can help you out. However, I also agree with the above comments - your website seems to be written mostly in the 2nd person, and in a very casual tone which would be out of place in an encyclopedia. Dairy {talk} 03:40, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, that was an edit conflict, but I lost session data so it didn't take me to the ec page. Dairy {talk} 03:46, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping. What we have here is an undisclosed paid editor evading a block for copyright violations and showing a distinct lack of clue; I see no reason not to block the new account and will do so after leaving this message. Jails to Jobs does not appear to meet the notability guidelines (it doesn't help that the name is fairly generic and is used by a number of programmes which appear unrelated to the subject of the draft - on a side note, the New York Jails to Jobs program instigated by Bill de Blasio may be article-worthy), and no email about the content had been sent to OTRS last time I checked (two minutes ago). Chinese govt pushing SPA

I have found an account (multiple IPs) that appear to be a WP:SPA pushing the views of the Chinese govt. He has repeatedly removed reliable and valid information on things that do not alight with the views of the Chinese govt. This does not line up with Wikipedia's core values of creating an encyclopedia and neutral point of view. How should I report him / ensure his disruptive editing doesn't harm the encyclopedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.156.233.252 (talk) 20:27, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

univ seminar assignment to edit/update a Wiki page

Our final group assignment, in a univ seminar this semester, is for students to collaborate on updating and significantly enhancing a Wiki page on a particular/recent scholar. Apart from having all of the students create an account and learn to use the editor properly, I'm wondering if there's any good advice here for ways to go about doing this--for example, we're developing our own in-house method for ensuring accuracy and editorial uniformity concerning structure/headings and content rather than just turning them all lose on the Wiki page, but sooner or later there will be a variety of editors tackling revisions to the page over the course of several weeks.Rtmccutch (talk) 20:25, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Add image to Page

    Hi,

I'm the original illustrator for images used by the Gopher (protocol) development team (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gopher_(protocol)). The Gopher developers asked me to post the original GopherCon shirt image. I'd like to do that, but even though I've had my Wikipedia account for some years and have done many edits (over 10), it's telling me I'm not yet confirmed, which would let me upload the image to the page.

    What's my next step? Wiki-helperella (talk) 22:22, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Wiki-helperella: Hello, although your account was apparently created in April 2014, your contributions here show that you have only made seven edits to date (in just the last week). Have you edited from another account or whilst 'logged out'? A few more edits would see you autoconfirmed or in the meantime there's WP:FFU. Eagleash (talk) 22:59, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Wiki-helperella. Are you intending to license the picture under CC-BY-SA or compatible? If so, please upload it to Wikimedia Commons, so that any Wikipedia (or other Wikimedia project) can use it. I don't believe there's an autoconfirmation requirement at Commons. If you're not planning to license it in that way, then you can upload it to Wikipedia, but only if its use meets all of the non-free content criteria. --ColinFine (talk) 23:16, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Baker House

My new edit is ready in my sandbox. How to make an article of it? This is my first (new page) edit in en.wiki - I write in fi.wikipedia. --Weird1e (talk) 02:40, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It looks like we already have that particular topic covered at List of Massachusetts Institute of Technology undergraduate dormitories#Baker House. You may want to read Wikipedia:Your first article for more information on creating articles here. Beeblebrox (talk)
No new page opens when I click that link or the red Baker House, I just get to this. I have red the information and I am an old user in the Finnish fi.wikipedia. --Weird1e (talk) 03:09, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I just clicked the link in my reply and it took me straight to the content on this building, so I’m not sure what the issue is there. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:12, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I also went ahead and created a redirect page at that redlink. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:15, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Baker House should probably be a disambiguation page, since there are several articles (and probably many buildings) with that name or something similar. nagualdesign 03:19, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is. They used a piped link with a longer title in their comment. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:25, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    Ah.. My mistake. nagualdesign 03:28, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, there is this list, okey and no need for an individual article. But the problem still exists: I cannon start a new page whatever I try. I wonder if the problem is my user name? Can any of the admins give some help? How can I get contact to the admins? --Weird1e (talk) 06:30, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Weird1e: At this English-language Wikipedia, the rule is that a new account cannot create an article until it has made ten edits and been registered for four days. Your posts at the help desk have brought you up to ten edits, so you should find that you can now create a new article. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:59, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But my standard advice on creating articles, Weirdle, is that it is hard, and unless you are very confident that you can get it right all in one go, you should use the articles for creation process to create a draft that you can work on and then submit for review. Have you read my first article? --ColinFine (talk) 17:56, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that’s why I linked YFA in my first reply, but they apparently didn’t bother reading it. Experience on other projects is great, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you know how things work on this project. 20:10, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
The real problem was that I did not know the ten edits rule. Thank you for your kind help. --Weird1e (talk) 00:33, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Weird1e: I'm pretty sure that Beeblebrox "bothered" to read your reply and your draft, and even went to the trouble of finding an existing article, as was clearly explained to you. I also "bothered" to read your draft and made several minor edits to it in order to assist you. A "thank you" is always appreciated but not really necessary, as the editors here are always happy to help out, but saying that we "apparently didn’t bother reading it" is a little bit rude, don't you think? Or did you not bother to properly read the replies you received? In answer to your other question, your username is not an issue. nagualdesign 04:29, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Nagualdesign: Well this is embarassing. I said that, and apparently accidentally signed with five tildes so there is only a timestamp. Beeblebrox (talk) 07:03, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    Ooops! nagualdesign 07:05, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Nagualdesign: Beeblebrox beat me to it. Did someone say something about "properly reading replies"? :-) Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 07:23, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Євгенія Ковальова: Hello, there is a 'button' within the grey notice at the foot of the page, which, if you are happy that the page is ready for mainspace, you can use to submit for review. However, the system has a backlog and this could take several weeks. It is somehat 'risky' to try to create a Wikipedia article for someone as a 'gift'. They would have to pass Wiki's rather stringent rules on notability and the page would have to conform to the community's other standards also. I will leave some links at your talk page. If you have a close association with the subject or someone has asked you to write the page, particularly if part of your employment or for any sort of reward you must read WP:COI and WP:PAID and make any necessary disclosures. I have several related questions about the technology used to produce certain Wikipedia content elements. Certain pages (such as File:Elliptic orbit.gif and File:Geostationaryjava3D.gif) include animated gifs. My first question is:

    1. Is there a Wikipedia standard technology/toolkit for producing such gifs? Other pages have similar looking but static graphs (such as File:Analemma Earth.png and File:Sunrise - Libreville, Gabon - 2008.svg). My second question is similar to the first:
    2. Is there a Wikipedia standard technology/toolkit for producing such graphs? To produce such graphical elements requires some mathematical computations. Separate from the first two questions which are about the presentation of the information is this third question:
    3. Is there a Wikipedia standard technology/toolkit for producing such mathematical computation? I have spent about an hour searching for answers to these questions with no success. My final (meta) question is:
    4. Where/how should I have been searching to get these answers?

    Thanks. 45.25.168.52 (talk) 16:05, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello IP user.
    1. No, such are made by editors with the software they want. If the description was filled in properly, it usually indicates how it was done. In the case of File:Elliptic_orbit.gif, the metadata tells us it was made using POV-Ray, and it even includes the source code to generate the image.
    2. Same answer - there is no standard, look at the metadata. The Libreville sunrise used Gnuplot. There are a couple of ways to generate graphs and the like with Wiki-code, but they are quite limited and rarely simpler to use than external tools; anything that is included as an image in the Wiki-code was from an external tool.
    3. Same answer. Unless you mean how to write math equation on Wikipedia pages, in which case see WP:MATH.
    4. Here and the Teahouse are fine places to ask any sort of question about Wikipedia editing, and to be honest, for these particular questions I do not think there is much better. Maybe at the Graphics Lab but that is only tangentially related. TigraanClick here to contact me 17:41, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Draft:Famous Dex

Hi, the Famous Dex draft is (finally) looking a lot better than it previously did in the past by IP and user vandalism/poor and unsourced edits. He has a song that has peaked on a Billboard chart so that should establish some notability re:music/artist related articles, can this be moved from a draft to an actual article? thanks,Melodies1917 (talk) 16:12, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    reference citation question

Sometimes I can't find answers to questions around here and this is one of them... Is there any kind of guideline etc that governs the following situation: The article's lead has this phrase

The issue of what access and inclusion within the circles of power does to individuals' lives, aspirations, and outcomes;[1]

and then this is the reference:

1: See, e.g., Angelo, First Families.

    So my questions are:

    • Is it acceptable to use an entire book as a reference citation (in this case, for a statement in the lead)
    • Is it acceptable to use "e.g.," (an abbreviation for the Latin phrase "exempli gratis," meaning "as a good example" or "for example") as a reference in Wikipedia.

In this article, this is the only time this book is used as a reference in the article. There is a similar reference-citation for another book, which, again, is the only time this other source is used in the article. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 16:50, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This question would be clearer if you said what article it's about. Maproom (talk) 07:55, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Uploading images

Hi there, I am trying to upload images that we have rights to, but I keep getting an error message. I have also received written permission to use certain images on a wiki page. How do I get more images on a bio page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SpaceJunkie1 (talkcontribs) 16:52, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@SpaceJunkie1: Hello, you will not be able to upload files to Wikipedia until your account is at least 4 days old and with a minmum of 10 valid edits. Images should ideally be uploaded to Commons where the requirements are different. Click upload in the tools on the left and the upload Wizard should guide you through the licensing requiremnts also. A successful upload will provide you with a pre-formatted link to use the file on Wikipedia. Logos, however, should only be uploaded to Wikipedia and if using the file in an infobox just use the basic filename E.g. XXXX.jpg. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 17:04, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Could you clarify who "we" are, and what rights you claim? Who holds the copyright of the images? Usually this is the person who took the photographs (if they are photos). Company logos can often be used at low resolution under a WP:Fair use policy and uploaded directly to a Wikipedia article. Dbfirs 20:57, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid that "I have received written permission to use certain images on a wiki page" is hardly ever sufficient, for two reasons, SpaceJunkie1. First, the Wikimedia Foundation must receive the permission - either by it being made public eg on a website, or by an email. But the trickier reason is that permission to use an image on Wikipedia is never enough. To satisfy Wikipedia's goal of being freely reusable, images must be released under a licence such as CC-BY-SA, that will allow anybody to reuse the image for any purpose, as long as they attribute it properly. See donating copyright materials for more information. There is a limited possibility of using non-free images (in which case permission is irrelevant), but this is hardly ever possible for a picture of a living person, though it is often used for logos. See the non-free content criteria and LOGO. --ColinFine (talk) 23:02, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A slight change needed. Can you help ??

    Hi there

I have trying to write the history of the Forests Commission here in Victoria, Australia

This is my first Wikipedia entry and I'm still learning

I created a page named "Forests Commission of Victoria".

Its been pointed out it should read "Forests Commission Victoria" (ie NO of).

    I can't seem change it.

    Can you help please

    Thanks

DBHOB — Preceding unsigned comment added by DBHOB (talkcontribs) 09:13, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the article to Forests Commission Victoria. It took me a while to check that this is its preferred name: most of the sources cited in the article don't mention the Commission at all. Maproom (talk) 10:22, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Publishing

How do I make my article live? It needs no references as I am Cris B. Mark. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crisbmark1997 (talkcontribs) 09:50, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The draft will not go live. It does need references as Wikipedia is not interested in what you say about youself, but only in what is said in published reliable sources independent of the subject. Please read Wikipedia's advice against autobiography. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:57, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You should probably requst deletion of the page at your sandbox by placing {{Db-G7}} at the top of the page. Eagleash (talk) 17:26, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Beverly hills chihuahua (film series)

How do I put “this page needs work” on? because I don’t know how? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Woothero (talkcontribs) 15:26, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Further to the advice above, I have reverted your recent edits to Beverly Hills Chihuahua (film series) as they were entirely unsourced. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:36, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Page delete request

Hi, all... i procuded a redirect-site House Lemke to Lemke House and would like to have it deleted as this makes no sense. Could someone be so kind to do this? Thanks, --Gyanda (talk) 17:01, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Gyanda: If you are the sole author, you can request deletion by placing {{Db-G7}} at the top of the page. Eagleash (talk) 17:23, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gyanda: Ignore that. As the redirect results from a page move, it should probably be retained for attribution purposes. No harm is done by its retention and redirects are cheap. Eagleash (talk) 19:14, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay, thanks for the info. I just thought, i had done something wrong, which would need repair. Good that all is okay :-). Kind regards, --Gyanda (talk) 21:21, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

using images from other wiki pages

I'm sure it's been asked but I couldn't find it, so I apologize ... There is an article about a Russian scholar in English ... the English version doesn't have his pic in the infobox but the Russian version does. Thought it'd be neat to post it on the English page (especially since it's a great pic of him with his cat!) but i'm pretty new so i'm not sure how... any guidance? thanks so much for y'alls time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arqueogato (talkcontribs) 18:53, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Arqueogato. Click on the image on the Russian Wikipedia to get more information about it. If the image is hosted on Wikimedia Commons, then you are free to use it here or anywhere else. Just copy the image file name and add it to the image field in the infobox template here. If the image is hosted on the Russian Wikipedia, then things are a bit more complex, and you should ask a follow-up question with a link to the Russian article. Edit war

    Re. Template:2018 Winter Olympics Calendar

When an edit war in wikipedia is ongoing (and I admit that the undo button has been used far too many times in this case), the disagreement should be hammered out in the discussion page I believe. While this is being sorted out, which version of the page should be left for viewing, the original version or the edited version? Need advice.Juve2000 (talk) 19:50, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My advice would be to just leave it as it is and engage wholeheartedly in discussion. Arguing over which version of the article should be left for viewing while discussion in ongoing is moot, and can only detract from discussion. Really, the article should be left how it was before the edit warring began, but there's no rush to get it right and insisting that the article should remain one way or the other usually only serves to antagonise the other party. nagualdesign 21:13, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Editors to watch

Is there somewhere to post the names of disruptive editors so that their contributions can be monitored? For instance, an IP user (83.136.45.112) seems to be making a habit of disruptive editing but probably doesn't edit often enough to face sanctions. They're a good example of what I call "one to watch", but you can't add specific editor's contributions to your watchlist. I wonder if administrators do have such capabilities and where I might alert them to specific contributors. nagualdesign 22:40, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    disturbing image

Is it allowed to upload porn images to Wikipedia? L293D () 23:20, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    No. nagualdesign 23:21, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It could depend on the context; see WP:NOTCENSORED. Eagleash (talk) 23:47, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. Can you imagine a context in which pornographic images would be acceptable here? Even the article about Pornography only has historical examples. See Wikipedia:Pornography for more details. nagualdesign 00:00, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Nagualdesign: I'd be careful of delivering a flat no. As Orangemike says, some people consider the images in articles like penis and breast porn. It's not as bad as it used to be, but we get the odd "think of the children!" crusader popping up. --NeilN talk to me 00:12, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
See my reply below. nagualdesign 00:14, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Depends on how you define porn, too. Lots of conservatives whine about how many sexual images are in the Wikimedia Commons, but those are not actual porn but licensed private pics uploaded by copyright holders. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:05, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There's only really one definition of porn: the portrayal of sexual subject matter for the exclusive purpose of sexual arousal. The last part is the important part, so pictures of a clitoris or penis, for example, might well be used for illustrative purposes. People certainly disagree over what constitutes profanity, but not pornography as far as I'm aware. nagualdesign 00:11, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Nagualdesign: You might be interested in reading the first thread in Talk:Human penis/Archive 2. --NeilN talk to me 00:21, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I gave it a quick once over. To be honest, I just looked at the pictures. Just to be clear, I'm no prude and my threshold of what constitutes profanity is fairly high. I can see the benefit of showing a picture of an erect penis in an article, for example. What we don't do, and I'm sure everyone agrees with this, is include salacious images for the sole purpose of sexual arousal, which is how I understood the original question. History of erotic depictions shows many would-be pornographic images of artefacts that were certainly pornographic at the time they were made – Pompeii was full of that sort of thing – but since they are used on WP for illustrative purposes they cease to be pornographic. nagualdesign 00:31, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was referring to this edit, (I requested it to be deleted), in which a IP user added porn images. I'm not positively it was porn sure because I didn't really see the images, but the name of the image was clear. L293D () 00:55, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@L293D: It's an image hosted on Commons and used in a couple of foreign language Wikipedia articles on hentai (if you don't know what that is then I do not recommend searching about it at work or on any other public computer). --NeilN talk to me 05:47, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

user script disables all wp javascript, even the editor

I tried installing a user script in a new common.js, according to the instructions. My common.js had the line

    importScript( 'User:Thespaceface/MetricFirst.js' ); // Backlink: User:Thespaceface/MetricFirst.js
