Fix the reference of 1995 in Greece
Could help me fix the reference of Greece in 1995 for adding as Adjutant of the Hellenic Navy? He served with the President of the Hellenic Republic Constantinos Stephanopoulos (1995–1999). 108.21.67.83 (talk) 00:46, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Done, the accessdate of September 24, 2023 was causing one of the error messages since it's only September 17, 2023. The other error message was because there was a blank line in the middle of the reference title. Cmr08 (talk) 01:25, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

At File:Cricket, 2022 Asian Games.svg, which I extracted from pdf using Inkscape, why when viewing through Media Viewer the ball on the right look cropped out. It looks fine when clicking "Original file" at that file page. Hddty (talk) 03:24, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Edit war
Hello! Trying to avoid an edit war by not undoing recent revisions to two schools by the same user: [[1]] [[2]] that I previously undid. My original edits were removing unsourced content, and adding citations to the content I could find sources for.
I've noticed the other editors history is all the same and after googling their username I believe they may be conencted with the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Office which the school's they're editing may come under. I've asked about the username just now, but this justifies to me more that I'm right to undo their edit. However, I still know this would count as an edit war even if I feel I'm justified, so what is the best way to proceed from here? Thank you. -- NotCharizard 🗨 06:55, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Although this is pretty minor in comparison to other users listed in the page I’m about to mention, it may be suitable for this situation to be placed in WP:AN/I, as this seems like POV-pushing, especially considering the potential long-term link between the user and the article subject, as well as the consistency of reverts. — Mugtheboss (talk) 13:57, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- This user has been making edits to similar articles as mentioned since 2019. — Mugtheboss (talk) 13:59, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- The first thing is to try to talk to them. The user name and contributions history suggests undisclosed paid editing so I have posted a standard warning on their talk page. The user name also suggests a shared account, which is also not allowed, but I have left that till later. You posted on their talk page on 11 September and they seem to have replied as an IP, we have both posted today and hopefully they will reply in the next few days. - Notcharizard, the COI account has now been blocked, so you may as well revert their disputed edits. Hopefully they will be able to return with a better understanding of the COI policy. TSventon (talk) 13:45, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Redundant redirect
There is an old redirect here that could probably be deleted (and by the same logic, perhaps the Catherine (White) Coffin article should be renamed "Catherine White Coffin"). [NB: I'd do this myself if I were 100% confident about not inadvertently breaking something.] Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 09:08, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Searching in titles - Am I missing something?
A few times recently, I’ve wanted to search for multiple words within titles of pages on Wikipedia — e.g., earlier today, I wanted to get a list of all the pages that include the words ‘lgbt’ and ‘activist’ (case-insensitivity) somewhere in their title.
Due to intitle:
seemingly not supporting multiple parameters (or - if it does - me
not knowing how to use it), I ended up doing this via a query on Quarry instead (quarry:query/76626), which worked fine (hopefully!) after a bit of tinkering.
However, it’s just left me wondering if I’m missing some really obvious easier way of doing searches like this!
Best, user:A smart kittenmeow 11:17, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @A smart kitten You can combine intitle: searches as in this example The output is not precisely and "AND" between the two intitle searches: it finds either "lgbt" or "activist" in the title, with the other term occurring anywhere in the article. See H:INTITLE Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:40, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Michael D. Turnbull Thanks for that! If I wanted an exact ‘AND’ search, do you think using Quarry as I did would be my best bet? Thanks again, user:A smart kittenmeow 11:48, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- I'm no expert on Quarry but you seem to be on the right lines. My personal approach would be to do the simpler intitle search, followed by a visual scan of the results, assuming the output wasn't too large. Although I've written SQL in the past, I haven't investigated it for Wikipedia queries. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:56, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @A smart kitten: intitle:"activist" intitle:"lgbt" does search for both terms in titles but it includes redirecting titles. I don't think you can exclude redirects. Confusingly, the search results page may display a hit in the body instead of the redirect hit which caused the entry. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:30, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

He told me to disapprove my draft wikipedia page, unless I pay him 50 USD.

- New accounts cannot directly create articles; you need to create and submit a draft via the Article Wizard or Articles for Creation. Please note that writing a new article is the most difficult task to attempt on Wikipedia, and you will greatly increase your chances of success by using the new user tutorial, as well as first gaining experience and knowledge by editing existing articles. 331dot (talk) 06:33, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Search box cache
When I click on the search on Wikipedia or any sister projects (like Commons) a list a suggestions always appears including "War and Peace", "Ritsurin garden" and some other things I have searched in the past. I have cleared my browser's cache and deleted cookies and saved information for all sites, but I still get this same list. Is there some sort of cache associated with my account or something that I need to clear? Photos of Japan (talk) 11:19, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Photos of Japan This will be your browser, not anything to do with Wikipedia. Try using a search engine to look for instructions about removing them. e.g. "delete search history chrome" if that's the bowser you are using. On some browsers (including Edge, which I use), you can hover over these suggestions and a "trash" icon appears which allows you to delete the suggestions one-by-one. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:51, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply. I am using Google Chrome. I deleted my visit to the page on Ritsurin Garden but it did nothing. I have the same problem as this person but when I follow the suggestion and hit my down arrow and try to delete the suggestions it does nothing. It's always the same 6 suggestions and they are unique to the search box on Wiki projects. Photos of Japan (talk) 12:29, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Photos of Japan Two more suggestions: 1) Switch to the default vector 22 skin. I only get these suggestions when I use the vector 2010 skin. 2) when I see the suggestions, there is also a small "x" at the top right of the list with (on hover-over) a prompt that says "Don't show saved information" which I can click to switch it off. I think that this must mean it is a Wikipedia function but one that isn't present in all skins. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:19, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Mike Turnbull Thank you for the suggestions. I tried all of the skins and some of them had the suggestions and some didn't, but I didn't get the small "x" in any of them. I have uploaded a photo of what I see which shows how I basically have two different suggestion lists. The first one I get when I first click the box and don't do any typing, the suggestions have been static for months. The second is the normal suggestions list which changes as I type. Messing around with things I came across a weird way to change the first list. When I searched for my edit summaries I discovered that my list of recommendations changed to whatever I searched for. So now I have ""sand, add, pull, iodine, one, edit" as my recommendations every time I click on the search box since I randomly searched my edit summaries for those 6 words. I wonder if the suggestions are related to toolforge somehow. Photos of Japan (talk) 10:11, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- The fact that we are seeing slightly different ways the suggestions are presented convinces me that the behaviour is due to the browser. When I edit articles in the source editor, for example, I get a whole bunch of suggested edit summaries that I've used before: I find that very helpful. Edge and Chrome have similar engines but different detailed implementations. I think you would need to ask an online Chrome forum how to control the lists you are seeing, or delve into the settings menu and submenus. It could even be the case that Chrome keeps these lists associated with your Google account. Try using Wikipedia from a different device. If the new device doesn't have the suggestions, then they must be stored locally. If they travel with you, they are stored in the Google cloud. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:42, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- It doesn't appear on other computers. I tried searching the cache associated with my Google account but couldn't find anything, but I will seek help on a Chrome related forum. Thanks! Photos of Japan (talk) 05:33, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

How do I find a template in another language. In particular I'm interested in Citation needed in German, but no search I've performed produced any result. Gciriani (talk) 16:04, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Gciriani, if you can't find an article with an example to look at/copy, the next best thing would probably be to ask at that Wikipedia's version of the help desk, if they have one. German Wikipedia's help desk seems to be here. 57.140.16.29 (talk) 16:26, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Gciriani, different Wikipedias have different policies, so you should be familiar with de Wikipedia policies before adding a template to an article in de Wikipedia. TSventon (talk) 16:32, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Gciriani asked there and was directed to a discussion from 2013 where the idea of a citation needed template was roundly defeated. It's nice to see their discussions can be as wild as ours. StarryGrandma (talk) 20:15, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- There's a real irony lurking in that discussion and vote you linked, which turned out Oppose by 183–76. In order to make an argument about how horrible things would become at de-wiki if they allowed a {{citation needed}} template over there, they pointed to how bad things were at English Wikipedia, and god forbid they should imitate our disorder. For example, the #1 responder in the "Opposed" column (#1 of 183, here) gave as his example of en-wiki chaos, our article "Pilatus Aircraft", pointing to the 30 Aug 2012 version (rev. 509918320), which, admittedly, was pretty ugly, littered as it was with "citation needed" templates all over the place. But that ugly revision was already five months old when Armin wrote his comment at 08:29, 19. Jan. 2013, and by that time, in rev. 533563703 of the article, all of the numerous "citation needed" links had been resolved with citations. In other words, the template worked, and the verifiability of the article improved as a result. Nobody pointed that out at the time, and the tag was roundly defeated, but I find it pretty funny now that the poster-child example of en-wiki ugliness by "opposer #1" in fact worked like a charm. Self, do I detect a touch of Schadenfreude, here? Tsk, tsk... Mathglot (talk) 07:54, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

- TonyTheTiger, Commons:File:20230304 Carla Vernón and Antonio Vernón at Pizzeria Lola 02.jpg is on Commons not Wikipedia, so this is probably the wrong helpdesk. The tag says "For an update on the issue, please contact the user who added this template to the page, or someone else with a VRTS account, or the VRT noticeboard", so you could ask Commons:User:Krd who added the template or Commons:Commons:Volunteer Response Team/Noticeboard. How to provide "page needed"
The article I am editing has [page needed] following a block quote. I know the page number. It happens to be "1". I just don't know how to replace the "page needed" with the right markup. Also, how could I have efficiently found this information in the vast help universe of wikipedia. Pojoman (talk) 19:51, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- I think you just need to update the relevant citation to include the page number (how to do so will depend on the form of the citation) and then you can delete that template. I'm somewhat guessing since you didn't link to the article in question. :) DonIago (talk) 19:57, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- It would help to know what article that is. Is this attached to a reference or just next to the source of a quote? StarryGrandma (talk) 20:25, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Language
Why is the page "Bipolar disorder", even if it's not a uniquely American topic (like, for example, American celebrities), written in American English? British English should be used for all topics that are neutral and do not directly relate to the United States of America. JackkBrown (talk) 21:08, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Per WP:ENGVAR if the subject is not specific related to a national variety of English, it typically stays in the version of English it was initially written in unless there is a consensus to change it. Your idea would require changing that policy and subsequently, if accepted, changing millions of articles. Feel free to try to work to change the policy, but it will be a long, hard process- and probably won't work unless you are a master persuader. 331dot (talk) 21:13, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Not per WP:ENGVAR. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:14, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- To be crystal clear, JackkBrown, there is no preference for or against British English in any articles about any topics other than those primarily related to the United Kingdom. - @JackkBrown just wondering, what is so wrong about American English that we need to change millions of articles to get rid of it? What makes British English much better than American? (Not trying to be rude or crass, just curious) Industrial Insect (talk) 14:55, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Review and Potential Unprotection of Mizanur Rahman Azhari Article
Hello! The article on Mizanur Rahman Azhari has been protected indefinitely. I have created a draft on his biography in my user namespace, specifically at User:ImranAvenger/Mizanur Rahman Azhari. The protected and deleted article currently does not seem to meet the notability criteria. I kindly request you to review the article in my user namespace, User:ImranAvenger/Mizanur Rahman Azhari, and assess whether it aligns with the notability guidelines. I want to mention that I translated the content from the Bengali Wikipedia. If, after your review, it is found to adhere to the guidelines, I request that you unprotect the article and move User:ImranAvenger/Mizanur Rahman Azhari from my user namespace to the main namespace. Data entry deletion
Hi, I tried to enter a piece of information related to the Festival I work for on this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_multigenre_conventions and I would like to know why the line I added is then deleted Vale3311 (talk) 12:15, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Esw01407: this question is for you. Please respond. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 12:18, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Vale3311: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. First of all, given that you work for the festival (even if you are an unpaid volunteer), please read the policy about paid editing and make the appropriate disclosure.
- If you look at the article history, Esw01407 reverted your edit twice with the edit summaries of "WP:WTAF" and "write the article first". Granted, that is a bit rough, but it does explain their reasoning. If you click on that page, it is an essay that says one should write the article about a topic (in that case, Napoli Comicon) before linking to it in other pages.
- Now, there are layers to this.
- WTAF is only an essay. WP:REDLINK, which is a guideline, says that it is acceptable to put in links without a corresponding article if one reasonably expects that the article could be created. The existence of an Italian Wikipedia article about the convention is a strong indication that an English Wikipedia article has a chance (even if notability criteria differ a bit, so no guarantees).
- List of multigenre conventions is a list. How to choose which entries belong to a list and which don’t is a vast topic, but one of the most common criteria is "everything that has a Wikipedia article (and fits in the list)". (Read the CSC link, it goes on to explain what should be done when the entry is notable but does not currently have an article.) To me, it seems a reasonable criterion for the multigenre list.
- In any case, the next step is to open a discussion on the talk page (Talk:List of multigenre conventions). TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 12:42, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- So usually the standard for these convention lists has been a wiki article, usually English language on at least the ones I've edited. They tend to become messy due to conventions trying to add themselves when they don't have enough sources or notability for an article. This might be the first time anyone has tried a international linking on any of the lists I've edited, which I frankly would not be totally for due to how frequently conventions come and go. If there's a pre-existing standard on how this linking is supposed to work, I have no problem following it. Esw01407 (talk) 02:20, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
How to show company
How do i show my company in your list? 98.118.52.74 (talk) 13:00, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- That depends on what you mean, IP editor. There are a lot of lists of various companies on Wikipedia and some have different inclusion criteria than others. Which list in particular are you referring to? If you're asking how to publish an article on your company, see Help:Your first article. 57.140.16.29 (talk) 13:04, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- See also WP:NCORP and WP:COI. There won't be much chance of success if the aim is to create an article about a non-notable company.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 13:07, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Hurricane Carla 1961 (Texas Gulf Coast)
I understand that this meteorological event occurred a long time ago. I don't know that commenting on Hurricane Carla is worthy of mention at this time. I merely wish to suggest the Storm may have impacted more areas than were mentioned in the Wikipedia treatment of the event. I am familiar with the Baytown area, east of Houston. In 1961, it was a medium-sized town, dedicated to the operation of the Baytown Refinery, Humble Oil's (Later re-named Esso and Exxon) local plant. The Refinery was the largest producer/refiner of petroleum products in the United States. It bore the responsibility of supplying more diesel fuel and other petroleum-based products to American Armed Forces in World War II's European theater of operations than any other refinery. It continues as a major refinery today. The point of this comment is that I saw no mention Of Baytown as an area of impact in the Hurricane. I heard from many citizens shortly after the storm. Their stories were horrific. One newer subdivision on the edge of the residential area was completely flooded; nothing was left that could be recognized as homes, stores, schools, etc. My only reason for commenting is to suggest that Baytown may have been omitted either as a result of an error or oversight. I don't pretend to decide whether it is worthy of adding into the story of Hurricane Carle, I am merely stating that one city that was strongly impacted was not included, as far as I can see. It would be inclusive to add the name of "Baytown" to the list of communities that were affected. I had numerous friends and relatives in this community. I had a personal connection, although not a current one to the area when Hurricane Carle struck. It surprised me to see the town's name not a part of the storm's story. Thank you. Remoay (talk) 13:20, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Remoay, all articles have talk pages - that is the standard place to discuss improvements to the article itself. If you post at Talk:Hurricane Carla and can provide reliable sources to back up your recollections, someone may eventually add the information. 57.140.16.29 (talk) 13:30, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Remoay I'm afraid that without any reliable sources reporting the event, this cannot be added into the article. However, as the previous user recommended, try to find some sources then post them at the talk page, and someone might add it into the article. Industrial Insect (talk) 14:51, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Remoay, here is an article about Hurricane Carla's impact on Baytown. Here is another article. This book appears to be a collection of news reports about Hurricane Carla and it includes at least three articles about its impact on Baytown. I hope this helps. Module:Transcludable section
Hello,
I had asked at WP Scotland about this module as it had been creating a lot of white space on some articles. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from as the code was basically identical to that on other articles. As an example, the code on 2022 Glasgow City Council election and 2022 East Ayrshire Council election are the same but the Glasgow wards (eg- Newlands/Auldburn (ward)) have white space added whereas the East Ayrshire ones (eg- Ballochmyle (ward)) don't. Number 57 has kindly provided a temporary solution at Linn (ward) but it would be much appreciated if someone could help figure out just what is wrong.
Thanks, Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 15:13, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Have you asked the module's author(s)? When I put
{{:2022 Glasgow City Council election|transcludesection=Newlands/Auldburn}}
(from Newlands/Auldburn_(ward)) in Special:ExpandTemplates and tick 'Show raw HTML', at the bottom of the raw html window I see this:<p>Source:<a href="#cite_note-1">[1]</a><a href="#cite_note-2">[2]</a> </p><p><br /> </p><p><br /> </p><p><br /> </p><p><br /> </p><p><br /> </p><p><br /> </p><p><br /> </p>
- which accounts for the whitespace. I notice that only that section transclusion in Newlands/Auldburn_(ward) has references so I wonder if the referencing is somehow confusing the module, or possibly MediaWiki. Ask the author(s).

Changing the content on Transactional Analysis page
Good afternoon,
yesterday I tried to change some content on the Transactional Analysis page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transactional_analysis
However, I see that the revised content is still waiting for approval. I am a member of the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA) and as a member of the Association's Communications Committee, I am the responsible person for the contents of the social media accounts and also Wikipedia page about Transactional Analysis.
Could you please help me what I should do so that the changes we made on the page will be approved and seen publicly? Yesterday I just made a revision on a small part of the page. If that will be approved, we would like to continue with the rest of the page. The reason we would like to revise the content is that the current content is not updated and it does not include the necessary/important subjects, theories and content about TA.
Many thanks in advance for your support.

- @BowlbyMaya: You fall under our definition of a "paid editor", if you are being compensated in any way for this effort. This would include being a salaried employee of some organization the sends you to EATA meetings. You are required by our terms of use to declare this relationship: See WP:PAID. Even it you do not feel that you are technically "paid", you still have a technical conflict of interest (WP:COI) and you should still declare yourself. In either case you should not edit the article directly. Instead, suggest changes on the article's talk page, and add the
{{request edit}}
template. Please provide published reliable sources for your changes. Please note that Wikipedia does not recognize you as the "responsible person" for the article: see WP:OWN. I know this all sounds very negative and harsh, but please don't be offended. - In addition to what Arch dude said, please note that all Wikipedia articles should be based almost entirely on what independent published sources say about the subject, not on what the associates of the subject say or want to say. If the changes you are asking for have been picked up and discussed by independent commentators, then they can very likely be made to the article. If they have not, then it is likely that the article will not be altered as you wish (though certain kinds of information can come from non-independent sources: see PRIMARY). Your requests will be much more likely to be actioned as you ask if you cite the relevant sources in your requests. ColinFine (talk) 21:03, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Any policies agianst someone frequently changing their IP address for no apparent reason?
Are any policies agianst someone switching their ip address almost periodically without reason. Just asking because ive seen it happen a lot recently. Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300 (talk) 17:05, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Idontknowwhattouseasmyusername300 I'm not sure how you would know that a given editor was changing their IP if they had an account, and if it was an editor identified by their IP only, then this may well be out of their control. My ISP resets my IP address every time I lose a connection, for example. I'm not aware of any relevant policy and I don't think there could be one. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:13, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- The reason why I asked was because I reverted a edit that had no reference without realizing the person had also made a large edit before that, it did a rollback because I was using AntiVandal. Doubt Regarding verification of an admin
I have seen a user @katie_shah, who is seen to be so called "reverting" any edits without any good reason on the page Bhagwa Dhwaj, like I added a pic of the RSS's Bhagwa Dhwaj in the infobox of the article and after some minutes, this user "reverted" my edits saying something I cant understand that I am adding something "religious", but the point is that, it is just the logo or Bhagwa Dhwaj and I must say, the one of the original one, if there is any. And the fun fact is that the I did not got a notification that my edits were reverted which come after an admin reverts and the user is i think vandalising the page because I cant see her talk page nor user page which makes me suspicious. I hope someone replies, and if you are, please take some time and mention me so I got the notification.

- The Yamantakks, I suggest that you follow the WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle and start a discussion on the article talk page, explaining why you believe your edits are justified and pinging the other user. Katie Shah (note the capitalisation) is not an admin, but a new user with three edits, so it is not surprising that they have not created a user page and no one has posted on their talk page. Be careful about referring to vandalism: on Wikipedia WP:VANDALISM means edits which deliberately damage Wikipedia, while this editor seems to be making edits that they believe are correct. Should this article be lengthened or does it not require the "Expand Italian" template? The Wikipedia page in the Italian language is about 60,000 bytes longer. JackkBrown (talk) 12:13, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- Unless there are some important aspects of her biography that are present in the Italian article but missing in the English one, I would not add the (rather ugly) {{Expand Italian}} template (personally, I think this type of templates should only be used on stubs). It also helps if you say what exactly is missing in the article. —Kusma (talk) 12:49, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
Disambiguation query
Hi, I created the page Christopher Hodson (director). Two pages for other people of the same name already exist: Christopher Hodson and Christopher Hodson (bellfounder). What is the correct way to handle disambiguation? Or is it unnecessary in this case? Thanks in advance for any advice.
~~~~ Tobyhoward (talk) 12:56, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- I would suggest that this comes under WP:NOPRIMARY and therefore following WP:USURPTITLE is appropriate. The steps I propose are:
- Post notices on the affected page, allow a week for comments.
- Follow WP:MOVE to move Christopher Hodson to Christopher Hodson (judge).
- Follow WP:USURPTITLE to usurp Christopher Hodson which from the previous step will be a redirect into a disambiguation page.
- Follow WP:MOVE#POST to repair links and prose.
- I believe the above course to be non-controversial so will not be listing this at WP:RM unless any objections are received. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 13:44, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- Concur with Martin of Sheffield (talk · contribs), I think none of these three qualify as an unambiguous, so a disambiguation page appears necessary, usurping the current Christopher Hodson page. Shazback (talk) 13:47, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
In the case of persons, Wikipedia articles are usually titled with the name the subject is most commonly known by (and hence searched for), not what might be technically more correct: hence for example Bill Clinton, not 'William Jefferson Clinton' (which if searched redirects to the Bill Clinton article. For that matter, seaching Wikipedia for 'Valerie Rockefeller' brings up the article under its current title as the first hit.)
- To re-title this article (which would actually be done by WP:MOVE-ing it), we would need two things: (i) a Reliable source showing that the subject does now use the name 'Valerie Rockefeller' (many divorced women continue to use their married surname), and (ii) evidence that 'Valerie Rockefeller' is how the subject is now most commonly referred to by the public at large.
- I suspect from your User name that you may be (or be working for) the subject; however, we don't have (and do not want) proof of that, and pranks by third parties are often attempted, so we have to guard against them by relying on and citing Reliable sources. If you are the subject (or their agent, either of which mean you yourself should not edit the article directly) you will surely be able to find good sources to verify the facts. Having done so you should go to Wikipedia:Requested moves and follow the instructions there. I hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 51.198.107.25 (talk) 15:42, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- This is helpful context and I'm grateful people like you are out there keeping us all honest! Indeed I am the subject :) who hadn't looked myself up, so I could share my (public) divorce document. I'm on the websites for Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors and other boards on which I serve (as well as voter records) under my maiden name, which I've used for several years. I'll look at requested moves and follow those instructions. Thank you very much and take care! Vbr71 (talk) 17:05, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Vbr71, please review our guideline on editing with a conflict of interest (which includes editing articles about yourself) - WP:COI. 57.140.16.29 (talk) 17:09, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
IP address keeps tripping possible vandalism filter without vandalizing
Every edit IP address 204.148.142.250 makes seems to set off the "possible vandalism" filter. I don't notice the user editing against the policy, is there a reason for these continued false positives? ~With regards, I followed The Username Policy (Message Me) (What I have done on Wikipedia) 18:06, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- I suspect it's due to an unregistered user making certain kinds of changes to infoboxes, which is often vandalism, but the notes for one of the filters adding these tags mentions that it generates a lot of false positives. The only real thing anyone can do in this speicifc case is encourage this person to register an account, but looking at the type of edits they are making, it is likely they are editing as in IP by choice. Red lettering
Please advise why my edit of "Ackerman, Mississippi" has red lettering in the References section. Swingrfd (talk) 18:39, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Swingrfd, you made a small markup error - I fixed it in this edit (and also removed the archive parameters which still went to the old source). 57.140.16.29 (talk) 18:55, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
The Nobel Prize in Physics was not awarded to Bruno Pontecorvo for political reasons (only because he moved to the URSS)? Really? So the United States of America has always considered itself a champion of freedom and the highest values (when it has committed some of the most serious human rights violations and some of the worst genocides ever seen in human history), while communism was to be wiped out? In conclusion: US good, Russia bad (always and in any case)? Anyway, back to the point: why did Bruno Pontecorvo never win a Nobel Prize in Physics, when he certainly deserved it? I would like to know more about this. If you cannot answer me (surely this is an incorrect place to ask this question), kindly point me to a more appropriate place, thanks in advance. 151.18.16.160 (talk) 20:23, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- You might get an answer over at one of the reference desks - probably humanities rather than the science desk - if Bruno Pontecorvo or one of its references doesn't have your answer. But I'd recommend toning down the political grandstanding. 57.140.16.29 (talk) 20:27, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
