I definitely made a suggestion that we save this hook for 28 October, the Diwali day, yet you moved this to the next update without leaving any comments. Did you actually notice my suggestion? --BorgQueen (talk) 00:38, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification. As for the prize, what if we choose the winner based on this statistics? --BorgQueen (talk) 16:17, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And, since you are online, can you fill the next update? I have to take some rest.. --BorgQueen (talk) 16:19, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dr Mabuse - Page title

Dr Mabuse (cycling) - This excellent new page has been created by your old friend Les Woodland, but I suspect that it should be titled Bernard Sainz If this is true, what is the best way to rename/move/redirect/copy it, and preserve the history. DYK for Calyptra (genus)

Updated DYK query On 31 October, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Calyptra (genus), which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Keep up the good work! ~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 07:45, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, not yet.

But you can check out who the winner is on the stats list. Not exactly a surprise though. --BorgQueen (talk) 16:32, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Nebulae stayed on Main Page for less than 6 hours (slightly more than 5 hours, as I recall), had it stayed longer the hits might have been barely over 5,000, but then it won't make it the winner anyway. The winner, as you might have noticed already, is User:Jmabel, who wrote the mummy hook. And that fact doesn't surprise me, with that photo of the handsome mummy. --BorgQueen (talk) 07:00, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tsomoriri

Hi, Victuallers,

Thanks for the DYK. I have fixed the dead reference no 2. There was a small error in conneting the notes with the web address. I have also added some more text as suggested on the Talk page.--Nvvchar (talk) 13:37, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Next update

We have enough hooks now... please stop adding otherwise would break MP balance. --BorgQueen (talk) 17:12, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course we always need your help, since neither of us is an automated machine. :-D It is just that I pay more attention to MP balance. I know we have a backlog problem nowadays but we can solve it by flipping DYK a little early, hopefully. --BorgQueen (talk) 17:23, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if this would work, but ITN has offered DYK some real estate on the Main Page. That might be a way to clear some backlog. -- Suntag 03:10, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alderwasley

Hi

Sorry to possibly confuse. I am the Head Teacher at Alderwasley and found out today that the school's page had been altered by one of my disaffected young people (possibly one I permanently excluded) so I have just attempted to correct the false changes they put on. This is my first time altering the site so just learning as I go along. I obviously have no objection to you removing overt reference to the school on the Alderwasley page - i just want to remove the emotional behavioural reference as this is not the nature of the students at the school.

I was trying to find out how to report the students who made the changes to prevent them doing the same again.

Thanks Veronica Jenkins —Preceding unsigned comment added by Veronica.jenkins (talkcontribs) 22:03, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alderwasley

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I have now found how to submit a vandalism concern. Looking at the history of the person making the posting I think I have identified who made the changes. I totally agree about the "truth" element. If you would like to look at the schools official web page http://www.senadgroup.com/alderwasley/ it will verify who I am and the nature of the students.

regards Veronica.jenkins (talk) 22:23, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alderwasley

Hi,

That will help thanks - especially as he's just changed it again. Looking more at his history and the other page that he has tried to change (those changes have been rebuffed by someone else - not me) I definiately know who the young man is who is making these changes.

Thanks Veronica.jenkins (talk) 22:46, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update

You can finish it if you like, I'm getting a bit tired. Gatoclass (talk) 14:13, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Technically, hooks are supposed to be left up for five days after the initial challenge, but if you want to discard some no-one is going to stop you, although you may cop some complaints from disgruntled nominators :) Gatoclass (talk) 14:23, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Sorry if I got you into an edit conflict earlier. —Politizer talk/contribs 15:25, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, it looks like you've got 8 in Next there already. How many more do you want there? —Politizer talk/contribs 15:27, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nvm, Gatoclass got the last one in. —Politizer talk/contribs 15:45, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know, the Magoja hook you just added to Next Update has a picture with it. I accidentally put it in earlier, too, but then I noticed the picture there...are we supposed to only have one picture in each update? Just checking, —Politizer talk/contribs 20:23, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, ok, that's fine. I just thought maybe you hadn't noticed the picture (since that is what I had done). Thanks for your explanation; I'm still just at the beginning of learning how DYK works! —Politizer talk/contribs 20:49, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added a 9th hook to Next and I must had added it right as you were moving Next into the queue, because I don't see that hook in the queue. Here it is:

... that in October 2008, the biofuel company Mascoma received a US$26 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop a cellulosic fuel production facility?

*Mascoma

Sorry about that, —Politizer talk/contribs 18:09, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

Hey there. If biographical material is in a list does it count towards a former word-count? I've expanded this page and I'd be interested in submitting it for DYK (it has some interesting points). The previous version of the article has the text in list form; does that count as a list, and if so can I discount it when doing my character counts? Ironholds (talk) 05:12, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. How would you classify the article in question? Ironholds (talk) 14:30, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have good judgement? :P. Thanks for your help; I'll see if I can expand it a bit more anyway and then push for it. Ironholds (talk) 14:56, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK queue 3

I left this message at Gatoclass' talk page, but just in case he doesn't see it before Queue 3 goes up, I'm copying it to you as well:

Hey, I feel a bit stupid for having been the one to tick this hook, but the 1970 Tonghai earthquake hook (at the top of Queue 3) is a bit inaccurate now that I look at it...it says the earthquake monitoring network was established "following" the 1970 earthquake, although it was actually established 25 years later and the source given in the article doesn't even present any causal relationship between the two (the so source basically says, "A network was installed in Yunnan. BTW Yunnan has some bad earthquakes. There was one in 1970 and one in 1976.") The hook could be changed to "installed 25 years after the 1970 Tonghai earthquake," (although that still seems to imply some causal relationship that isn't supported in the sources given), or kicked back to T:TDYK for discussion.
Sorry about green-lighting that hook erroneously, —Politizer talk/contribs 15:43, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lady Constance Lytton

Hello Victuallers,

I wonder if you can advise or assist me with regard to images and copyright. I have created an article about Lady Constance Lytton that will be on DYK today(ish). It would be greatly improved if it included a picture(s) of her. As the images in the cited in the sources are 98, 100, and circa 110 years old, can they be uploaded, how, and what rationale? The most suitable images are in her 1914 book, Prisons and Prisoners, and are specifically 1908 and 1910. please see Images of Lady Constance Lytton and Jane Warton.

Can you help? Thanks in advance. Regards. Autodidactyl (talk) 09:41, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Victuallers Re: Removal of red links, OK I was going to add articles but not really enough for more than a short stub, and dont really think short stubs contribute much to Wikipedia other than being a place holder for links in articles. Yupiit School District

Regarding pictures of schools for Yupiit School District - pictures may be available for the buildings, but they would be "I found them on the web" pictures and as such probably wouldn't meet fair-use guidelines for an article about the district as a whole. I hope when they get their web site fully up we'll see a logo we can snarf under fair-use guidelines, like I did with the oh-I-wish-it-were-1500-characters article Chatham School District, it also has good language-hook potential. Look for more "interesting-fact-inside" school-district and school articles in the coming weeks. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 21:03, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Giro d'Italia

Hello Victuallers, Can you help, please. I have created several pages and tables about the Giro, (eg. 1923 Giro d'Italia) based in the Italian data, but the pre-war Italian flag icon Template:ITA 1861-1946 doesn't work in English, so I have had to substitute the contemporary  Italy. Can you / do you know how to fix it? Upload the icon to English? Create it as a page? Sadly not my area of expertise (yet!). Thanks for any help you can give. Aldwark & referencing

Good day Victuallers,

Many thanks for your feedback on my Minninglow efforts; I shall bear your points in mind when submitting/editing in future.

I understand the value of referenced entries (was a tech journalist until I took up consulting) but feel they should always be used sparingly. Useful for substantiating precise claims, e.g. stats (I quoted Victorian population figures in when tinkering with the Aldwark page and referenced the source - thanks for tidying this, I'll be able to insert refs/footnotes correctly now). But they can be overdone - some Wikipedia stuff seems to be reference-heavy when much of the subject matter is clearly demonstrable/observable matter of fact.

One small cavil: you reckon numbers should be spelled out up to twenty but the style books I used to use as a journo generally favoured ten. Are you offering your opinion/received opinion or a Wikipedia rule? And is there a Wikipedia style book - I'd be interested to take a look.

I'll do my best to hack away at minor Derbyshire geographical/topographic and historical entries. Naturally, I'd be grateful if you could keep me on track - I see you've been in most of the entries in which I've had a hand!

Thanks again,

Thanks also for the Christmas greetings. I am only guessing - is Wiki-time based on the Greenwich Mean Time? I say this because it is 5 hours ahead of where I am in the Eastern Time Zone and I believe that would put it at Greenwich Time or there abouts (probably in your neck of the woods). Since it appears you are in England this has reminded me of a controversial article I have worked on in the past, Street light interference. Much of the material in the article is based on a book by Hilary Evans of London. He was with the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena when he wrote the book in 1993. The "effect" is just that - a simple effect that appears to happen to some people worldwide with no other special power. The "effect" has no controlled power of any type, however the article has stirred up much controversy. How I have had this "effect" is on the first External link of the first 7 YouTube videos. Over time many people worldwide have responded to these videos saying how this has also happened to them also. Don't know if you are from London or if you ever heard of this phenomenon? I would be considered a "SLIder" since it has occured to me for the last 25 years (that I have noted). Probably you have not heard of this, since it only happens in about 1 in a million people (my guess) worldwide. --Doug Coldwell talk 20:24, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting Doug, but I'm with Massimo Polidoro. The most interesting aspect is that Hilary studies this idea. Happy new year! Victuallers (talk) 12:18, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ada

Dearest Ada Lovelace was originally put on my list as a special request from some of the comp sci guys. I always liked her and delving into her history only made me like her more. I completed only half of the original request: I added citations and the rest as a stop gap measure against vandalism that wanted to put in just about any crazy thing in. The partial citations allowed for the hundreds of editors watch listing that page to know what information is real or not. I should return to her, and I most likely will after I finish her father's bio. :) Ottava Rima (talk) 17:03, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just moved the image to the bottom for Asif. I did this because it took the whole section downwards. I did not erase anything. I believe that the page looks just fine now after whatever I (accidently) or someone might have erased.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you too! I hope that 2009 is a good year for you. It would be hard to top 2008 since you became an admin. I don't think that there's anything organized for Darwin Day, but I think you should be bold and do it! I doubt you would get objections to such an important scientist. My time on the 'pedia is now quite limited as I finally found a job. While it wasn't in my field and the pay is low, I'm proud to say I did land a job in this tough economy. DYKAdminBot

I have restarted the dykadminbot so it no longer needs a human to manually update. However I need someone familiar with the process to verify the bot's contributions and tell me that they are correct. Further details are at Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#Bot.

P.S. This post is being cross posted to the 4 "active" users listed on Wikipedia:Did_you_know#Actively_involved. It is fairly critical that one of these four double check the bot before 01:00 UTC. —— nixeagle 19:37, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What little of DYK I know I learned from the code, and from asking PeterSym on IRC. Basically I need you to check that the bot is doing nothing wrong. I can't point you at a specific error to look for sorry. All the edits just need checking over by someone that is familiar with the process. The bot is doing nothing that I can see wrong, but my opinion here is not worth much until I get more into the process and start fielding feature/bug reports. —— nixeagle 19:46, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

James Carlile

Hello

I just came across your article on James Carlile because I have in my hands a volume of the Irish "Scripture Lessons for the Use of Schools" which he is said (by library catalogues) to have compiled.

The item about the purgatorial society appeared to clash with material later in the article from the Catholic Encyclopedia suggesting that he was anti-Catholic (which may be unfair given the speeches made in the House of Lords apparently referring to the Scripture Lesson material as being an attempted compromise between a Protestant and a Catholic position). I therefore looked up the reference you gave and concluded that, unless you have other evidence, it says nothing like what you have interpreted it as saying. My guess is that, in a Protestant pamphlet, he merely described what the Roman Catholics were doing.

I then looked up the reference regarding the "Belfast Academical Institution" and again (unless you can provide other evidence) you appear to have completely misinterpreted it! Castlereagh was (at that stage) seeking to stop them using the Institution because they had shown an independent spirit. I skimmed the passage and couldn't see what the suggested alternative was, whether the Scottish University was in fact correct or not.

I have therefore marked the page "disputed" and opened up a section on the article's talk page. --PeterR (talk) 23:59, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cricketers

Hi Victuallers - you may be interested in the note I left at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cricket. There is much useful information buried around Derbyshire cricketers. I hope you don't feel I have been too hard on the cricket people. There are about 100 players that still need articles and no one seems to be doing much about Derbyshire and indeed most of the articles read pretty negative about the team. Is anyone on the Derbs project interested in taking this up. Regards Motmit (talk) 20:35, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Derbyshire cricket teams contain quite a lot of important and interesting people such as brewers and landowners and I have been taking an interest in this. I don't plan to write any articles myself, firstly because I have other things to work on and secondly I'm not an expert on cricket. But if an article gets written from the non cricket world it gets sort of ticked off their list and cricket stuff doesnt get in poperly (see Samuel Hill Wood) so its a bit of an impasse. Glad you liked Buckston Mi. I gave up and decided at least to do the missing captains of Derbyshire which is now complete. As they had to be amateurs until after the war they usually had a life outside cricket. You can chain back through them and you might want to pick up some more for the Derbs project - one was associated with the mill at Matlock (though none of them were nicknamed "conversation"). Uploading images - licences.

Hello Victuallers, I have recently been editing Paris-Roubaix but it needs a headline image that encapsulates the event. Thus I am planning to email a professional photographer [1] and ask him to release a low resolution version of an iconic image. As posters and reprints are his livelihood I expect he will be somewhat reluctant, to say the least, thus I need to reassure him that a 'bcdef' licence will protect his general ownership of the image and the reprint business.

Can you tell me what licence I should suggest?
What I should do to find out?
Will a watermarked image be acceptable to wiki?
Have you got any other advice...

King of Clubs club

Hi Vic/Roger

I have just received my first Wiki-mugging for this article on the King of Clubs. It was promptly put up for deletion because I hadn't got around to putting in some references - at least I think that was the main objection! I had no idea the Wiki-police were so prompt (nominated within minutes of me putting it on !). Seems a shame because it is a highly researched article containing information that is not available elsewhere to the best of my knowledge. Anyway, your support has been valuable in the past and maybe you can tell me where I have erred ?

Vic, I have gained permission from the artist for her impression of Richard Sharp (a good pastel work)to be donated to Wikipedia. I can forward her consenting email if it helps. I think you once offered that I could email it to you, which I would prefer, since my editing skills might otherwise mean it would become lost in the ether. If you are still willing I can send it, with all the details, for adding to the article. I am still editing it as you may have noticed, to try to make it worthy.

Hi Vic

Thanks for doing the picture of Sharp (is it possible to give it the title/attribution supplied? I noticed the reference to his education being Oxford. I have never come across this unless you have turned up some new information. As a very staunch dissenter he would normally have been barred from entry (although I fancy there may have been one or two rare exceptions). Certainly, I have never seen any reference to him spending time there. A different Sharp? I have meanwhile replaced the reference to Oxford with Dr Fell's tuition, which is definite. As I recall he thought of a career in law but gave this up because morally he could not reconcile the thought of having to defend a guilty man. I would be interested to know what evidence there is, and for how long, he may have attended Inner Temple. Where did you find this? Thanks again,

Request for an opinion

If its appropriate to request this and you have time, would you please check out comments made at Talk:Python_reticulatus#Debate_regarding_length_claims_made_by_various_zoos and Talk:Python_reticulatus#Verifiability. It is my position that I've endured days of personal attacks and incivility from User:Mokele and User:Jwinius.

 • User:Mokele has told me "Cry me a river. I see absolutely no reason to listen to a mere amateur. Come back when you have a graduate degree in herpetology. Until then, stop wasting our time" and represents his editorial standpoints as "I don't give a crap if the news articles meet some overly-vague WP rule...we should stick to peer-reviewed scientific journal sources ONLY" and has referred to my good faith edits as "unencyclopedic crap" (all comments at [2]).
 • User:Jwinius has informed me that I am "silly", [3], "petulant" , "irritable", "thin-skinned", [4] etc.

I've lost count of how many times I've encouraged courtesy in these users. Perhaps encouragement of good behavior coming from someone other than myself and User:Cygnis insignis might have effect. User:Cygnis insignis's comments on our discussion begin as follows “I've waded through the incivility, bold assumptions, uncited assertions, expletives and other obstruction to this good faith contribution. However this is not the place for identifying this obnoxious pattern of behavior...” (see hidden comments at Ultimately, this dispute is about a claim made by User:Mokele and User:Jwinius to allow certain content at Python_reticulatus#Captivity that they deem unencyclopedic. Thanks for considering my comments. -- --Boston (talk) 20:03, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply

Hi, Victuallers, would you mind taking a few minutes to look at this article? Godefroid Munongo

I got your note. Sorry if my comment on the Munongo hook seemed harsh. The phrasing "involved" just seemed very vague to me. Given the history you've outlined, the uncertain phrasing certainly makes more sense. After reading your note, I tried going back to the hook to give it a second look, but it seems to have disappeared from the suggestions page. Any idea what happened to it? Cbl62 (talk) 06:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recording history of integrity here

Well I think you were pretty stiff to miss out on a DYK for this article. I really can't understand the comments that the nature of Munongo's "involvement" wasn't clear. He "personally assaulted" Lumumba on his way to execution - are we to supposed to conclude that he didn't know what was about to take place? I'm really quite mystified by the objections to this one. Unfortunately, I think it's a little late to try and restore this hook now. Gatoclass (talk) 07:29, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

50 thank yous

Thank you, this is somewhat ironic timing... even though I am past the 65 mark at this stage, it is unlikely I will be contributing any further, nevermind a large amount within the next sixteen days, due to this confidence-shattering incident... I've put an L in the name as it looks empty without it... ;) --Candlewicke ST # :) 15:50, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But is Awadewit allowed to continue doing this? I'm sorry if it came across in a bad way but plagiarism is something I have all my life been informed of as the worst possible allegation – be it at school, university, etc. I have never been accused of it and, having happened from nowhere, I was shocked due to the fact that so much of my work is generally on the Main Page at once – three of the ITNs are currently my own contributions, for example – and if I was unfit to structure a proper sentence, then I thought it highly unlikely I was qualified to continue being featured on the website's flagship page. This incident has shattered my self-esteem a bit due to a significant volume of work being blacklisted for a time by someone I thought respected (and what if I hadn't returned to DYK to check it?), which is all very well, but it cannot be good if Awadewit is doing this on a regular basis... I was familiar with the name Awadewit before this, probably from wandering around DYK, but I had never thought something like this was capable of happening... I've been over to see if she has responded and found the exchange has been removed... I haven't even the heart to go check if it's made it into a queue or been wiped completely... --Candlewicke ST # :) 16:28, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your support and especially so if you are busy engaging in other more constructive pursuits. :) I shall not take it personally. I am not one to normally be easily distressed by things going wrong and I think I have responded to what has occurred so far with a significant enough amount of fury to conclude that wrath versus accusation are now balanced. I just do not take kindly to being walked over and not at least informed with a note on my talk page as Awadewit did. I spent half of December as a sockpuppet because an IP address vandalised my userpage and I did not wish to be left with a reputation for plagiarism as well. --Candlewicke ST # :) 17:28, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya Thanks for your comments/question regarding my edit to the Pentrich Rebellion article. I'm trying to raise awareness of the Morland Dynasty which is a very well-written and well-researched series of historical novels by adding links to it on articles that are relevant to the issues or periods of history covered in particular volumes. I've found that many other articles on wikipedia have a Fiction or Popular Culture chapter where people list films, plays, novels etc. which are based around a historical character or issue. I have read the 5 pillars of wikipedia and the pages about editing and appreciate that Wikipedia is not a soap-box or advertising medium and am only referencing volumes of the Morland series which are relevant to the subject of the article.

I think that people who are interested in the Pentrich Rebellion, the Industrial Revolution and that era generally, might find the novel I have referenced interesting.

Sorry if you disagree and if the Pentrich article is yours I understand if you wish to delete my entry.

I have read the pages on formatting and will try to remember to add my username in future. Was there anything else specifically that was incorrect in my editing? I am very new to this.

Mainpage

No problem. I was just getting a bit frantic trying to figure out what was going on. Your comment on the next update page said something like "done credits" so I thought you'd moved the update from the next update page to the mainpage instead of taking an update from the queue. And then when I went to T:DYK, I couldn't find the purge button on the mainpage, and I thought the whole thing had been screwed! Given that I am up very late, I was starting to worry that I was going to have to stay up even longer trying to fix things up! But now I realize it was just one smallish error ;).

BTW, please don't forget to bump the adminbot count, you forgot that a couple of days ago. You can do it from the queue master page now, I left a link there. Gatoclass (talk) 19:20, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I know, it is difficult to keep up when you don't do it on a regular basis. Even I've made a few booboos lately and I have been doing quite a bit of updating and what-have-you over the last few weeks.
Re your query, if you go to the Template:Did you know/Queue master page, you will see a line that says "After doing a manual update, please update the queue count." Click on the link that says "queue count" and just bump the number by one. That way everyone knows what the next queue page is. Main page balance

Hi Vic! Sorry to bother you with the technicalities again, but I've noticed that several times you have removed some hooks from the update on the main page to maintain page balance.

I thought it might help to inform you that the way we generally deal with mainpage balance these days, rather than removing/adding DYK hooks, is to add or remove entries from the ITN or OTD sections on the right hand of the page instead. I generally don't do this myself, because I have an old fashioned CRT monitor (I hate those LCD monitors) which doesn't display the same as the newer widescreen monitors so it's hard for me to tell if the page is out of balance. If you don't want to fiddle with the ITN/OTD entries yourself, just give Borgqueen a nudge, she is often happy to do it.

The reason why it's generally not a good idea to fiddle with the number of hooks on the mainpage is firstly, because they've often been carefully sorted for balance, and also because we need eight hooks per update in order to avoid getting a backlog. Other than that, you are doing a great job, and thanks for all your continued assistance at DYK ;) Gatoclass (talk) 15:46, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alderwasley

Hi,

I was hoping you could help again as you were such a help last time I had a problem with the Alderwasley Hall School page.

There seems to be 2 people currently determined to add inappropriate material onto the page they are some one using the IP address: 84.69.55.49 and a user named: Johnthewalker.

Sorry to have to bother you with this but it would be beneficial to the school not to have the page vandalised in this way.

Thanks Veronica Jenkins (Principal, Alderwasley Hall School) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Veronica.jenkins (talkcontribs) 23:31, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alderwasley

I'm sorry but I don't think the changes were inappropriate. They were properly referenced, from trusted sites. This Veronica Jenkins seems to be the principal of the school, and as such is not really in a position to decide the contents of the wikipedia page. There seem to be a number of people 'vandalising' the page, not just the two she mentions.Johnthewalker (talk) 06:44, 13 March 2009 (UTC) You say that, but you appear (I say appear as I can only see what I see) biased too. Your account has only been used to edit one article .... Victuallers (talk) 16:05, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alderwasley

Hi, sorry to join in on this but as I see it, a number of parents seem to be having problems with the school, they have aired their complaints on two websites and the principal is determined to minimise their impact by warning them off wikipedia. It's hardly fair play. The websites are trusted and they are referenced elsewhere on wikipedia. 'Veronica Jenkins' only uses her account to police this specific page, it's hardly democratic of her.

I haven't posted on the Alderwasley Hall page and I have no intention of doing so, but I think it is wrong of her to treat wikipedia like an extended advert.

Thanks for listening and I'll just step down from my soapbox. 84.67.66.56 (talk) 08:33, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alderwasley Hall

Hello Victualler! Looking back on the Alderwasley Hall Site, I'm beginning to wonder if 'Veronica Jenkins' really is the principal of this school? S/he hasn't always bothered with vandalism, just wading in when specific people edit the page (including bona fide edits, such as the last one). If s/he genuinely was the principal then she would laugh off genuine vandalism and accept genuine edits. It's hardly democracy. S/he also made a rather threatening comment last November, about a child she suspected of vandalising. It just doesn't sound right to me.

There are a number of school pages which include the new schoolsnet website as a reference. Either they have all been vandalised or none of them have. Even if s/he is who s/he says s/he is, it is against the spirit of Wikipedia to cherry pick external links when it suit the user (who is not neutral in this situation), not the page. 84.66.8.77 (talk) 10:02, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the tip off. Its not my intention to support the school and its message. Obviously there is room for doubt. If you feel I have cherry picked then please revert or add to my my edits. Victuallers (talk) 16:01, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog?

Hi Vic, I just noticed you left an edit summary on the T:DYK page mentioning a backlog. Trust me, we don't have a backlog! In fact, I've been a little concerned we are going to run out of hooks lately. We were up to 240 hooks on the Suggestions page, it got down to 165, but now it's back up to 180, which is about average - but we also have some empty queue pages. Submissions seem to be down lately, so IMO there's no need to worry ATM about turning over updates quicker. Gatoclass (talk) 20:09, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 23:01, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, never mind, it looks like I just created it. Feel free to delete it if the hooks are already archived somewhere else and I just didn't notice. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 23:03, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jassy-Kishinev offensive

I think it meets the criterion. It's about 1750 chars long, which is 250 above the minimum, and we usually count in-text quotes, it's blockquotes we don't count.

I do agree though that the article seems very short, but technically I think it probably squeaks in and in any case I'm not the one who either approved or promoted it :) Gatoclass (talk) 12:06, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, sorry, I thought you posted that query on my talk page when in fact you posted it at the DYK discussion page. Anyhow, I have replied there now, on reflection I'm inclined to agree the article was too short, but it's a bit late to do anything about it now. Gatoclass (talk) 12:25, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice pics

Thanks for adding the pictures to Tissinton et al. Very good images. Do you know you can add them to commons here so that the French etc can use them too? Victuallers (talk) 17:49, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I will look at uploading them to commons, I've never really known how but I shall look into it, we wouldn't want the French missing out... Highfields (talk, contribs, review) 18:29, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Buxton High Sheriff

Dear Vic, as ever you are quite right. The reference caught me out as it only refers to HSofD. I have now moved him to HSofDNandRF. And I have added a reminder of the relevance of 1449 to both articles. Thanks for the help. RegardsOrdyg (talk) 17:33, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
