Template:Infobox Indian jurisdiction Kosi Kalan is a BIG town and a municipality in Mathura district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Kosi Kalan is a beautiful town situated in BrijBhoomi. Town was named Kosi for being treasury of NandBaba (as Kosh means Treasure). This town is a hub of cultural and commercial activities. The town is situated on the Delhi-Agra highway(NH-2)at 100 km milestone. The town is equally famous for its varied culture (since it is situated at tri-junction of UP, Rajasthan and Haryana) as for its industrial development.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Kosi Kalan had a population of 45,684. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Kosi Kalan has an average literacy rate of 51%, lower than the national average of 65%: male literacy is 59%, and female literacy is 41%. In Kosi Kalan, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age. But literacy rate has increased among the age group of 0–30 years in the last decade and every 3rd person in this group is either intermediate or a graduate.

Key Attractions

Nagar Devi (City Goddess) - Maa Bhagwati ji. There is a famous temple of Goddess on the bank of Gomati Kund.

Its location on NH2 with equal distance from Delhi, Agra and Noida (100 km), availability of continuous bus service from three state roadways and large number of plying locals (EMUs) has made Kosi Kalan an easily approachable place and convenient place.

Kokilavan, where lot of devotees come to pray Lord Shani (Saturn), is 8 km away from Kosi Kalan. Here the SHANI DEV MAHARAAJ is worshipped. It is the place of attraction for many devotees from the various parts of India and it also attracts foreign tourists. A lot of "bhandaraa" are organised every Saturday by the devotees and this devotion in the faith of Shanidev Maharaj has led the MD of Omaxe Construction Ltd to offer his company to develop the vicinal area. Now various dharamshalas can be witnessed and the prayers can be offered through well planned route.

Schools & Colleges

Kosi Kalan has very good schools of both mediums Hindi as well as English.

Town has three government, very old, intermediate colleges namely M.B. Inter College, Hindu Inter College and M.B. Girls Inter college. Town also has famous degree college, Shri Brij Bihari Degree College that is affiliated from Agra University. These colleges has produced a number of scholars who are glittering around the world in various fields.

There are several private schools amongst which prominent are Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Vidya Devi Jindal School, St. Theresa school, Aadarsh Public School.

Nearby village Paigaon has a central government's HRD ministry funded Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

The first commercial industry named "Venus Industries", an Alarm and Wall clock factory, was opened here in the 1960s.
