Talk to me, Andy Mabbett
- If you post a message on this page, I'll reply on this page to avoid fragmenting the discussion.
- If I've left you a message on your talk page, I will be watching it, so please reply there rather than here (but do feel free to drop a copy of {{Talkback}} here).
- If appropriate, I will move discussion from here to the relevant article's talk page, so that anyone interested can join in.
- If you want to start a new discussion thread, please start it at the bottom of the page. Better still, use the "+" tab next to the "edit this page" tab, or the link at the foot of this section, either of which will do that automatically.
- Please do not make links from within section headings.
- Inaccessible HTML (coloured text, "small" tags", etc.) will be removed from this page on sight.
- Please sign and date your entries by inserting four tildes (~~~~) at the end.
- Start a new discussion.

Hi Andy, I wondering how you are doing for volunteers? I feel I should get involved because it is right on my doorstep, but I'm super busy right now and would have to make time for it. --Trappedinburnley (talk) 16:56, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
- There are still some places available. You'd be more than welcome, and it would be good to see you, but please don't feel obliged. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:26, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- I hope everything went well yesterday, it's a shame I couldn't make it. If you do another in the future I'll try my best to attend! In the meantime if there are any related articles that could benefit from some local knowledge, I'd be happy to help. --Trappedinburnley (talk) 12:45, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you; we had a really go day (and nice cake!); I'm sorry you couldn't make it. I hope we'll be doing more in the future. Meanwhile, why don't you introduce yourself to the museum manager as Wikipedian? I'm sure they'd make you welcome. There's a list of suggested articles for creation or improvement on the project page. You can sign up there as an interested party, too. Flatlist
When I use flatlist, as in BWV 37, the infobox gets very broad. Any help? As for my "needed re-integration" into teh community: 1) thanks for noticing, 2) I try to keep an article talk free from personal remarks (was not successful for Bach), 3) there is no chance that I even want to be integrated, even if I modified my red cat saying so to the more mellow one I still keep ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:22, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

King Kong
I have corrected some inaccuracies on this page having visited the sculpture last week and conducted research on the it. The previous owner's son Richard Shanley(Carl Racey never owned it - it was Mike Shanley)has confirmed two Birmingham sites which are backed up by photos and video (Gangsters series and ATV broadcasts/interviews). I have referenced Facebook because that is where this information sits. It is no more unreliable that anywhere else I might choose to publish. Please do not undo the changes unless you can disprove the evidence. I'm not savvy enough to load photos and links as citation but feel free to do so on my behalf off my site https://www.facebook.com/SaveKingsHeath?ref=hl

- Please see WP:RS (Facebook does not meet that requirement) and WP:OR. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:19, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Facebook refs removed - maybe you need to remember the real purpose of Wikipedia. To perpetuate inaccuracies because of protocol is unhelpful. All you had to do was remove the refs.
Kind regards,
Jeremy Paige. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.139.43 (talk) 20:41, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
It is so simple. I am trying to alter the page so it is correct. The locations are wrong, the owner is wrong and all I am trying to do is contribute to the page. I'm not 'snide', I'm not anonymous and have nothing to gain. I've removed the refs and you persist in publishing an inaccurate page. I give up, I hope you are proud of your shoddy research. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.139.43 (talk) 21:05, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- Another snide comment. I ask you, for the second time, to read WP:RS and, for the third time, to read WP:OR. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:32, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Oh dear, we are a bit sensitive aren't we? I'd love to know how your 'reliable' citations have allowed you to publish inaccuracies and false information, although I note you have at least conceded that the sculpture is no longer in a Penrith car park. I'll not bother you again, you are welcome to the so-called community of Wikipedia, I'm off to the real world. Bye.

Disambiguation link notification for May 4
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Alan Dean (ornithologist), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chiffchaff (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Book links
Hi Andy Thanks for today's event at Queen Street Mill. It was great to see so many people and that they were all busy learning more and editing in the afternoon. I've updated the Robert Rawlinson page to add a retrieved date to the newspaper link which I forgot to do before I left QSM. I've added more references and will look more at the newspapers online and the printed material in the library collections. I've been looking at the Lancashire Book of the Year page and have made one update to add the link to Lancashire County Council. I'd like to add links to the OCLC Find A Book in libraries site but not sure if they would be best added as References, Bibliography, External links or something else, Can you advice please.
Thanks - Carolyn 5istanbul (talk) 17:52, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- It's good to see you still editing! Do you mean an OCLC link for each book? If you include ISBNs, the library links will be available from them. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:35, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Vienna Philharmonic
Thanks for restoring those comments.. Would you care to explain exactly what is achieved by having aduplicate move request to the one at Talk:Berlin Philharmonic. Wikipedia:Requested_moves#Requesting multiple page moves quite clearly states that "discussion for all affected articles is held on the talk page of the article at current1", which in this case means Talk:Berlin Philharmonic. In any case both of those users have added their comments to the correct talkpage. Green Giant (talk) 23:53, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
- You should address your question to the person making those comments. Your assertion of correctness is bogus, and does not justify you removing others' comments. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:10, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
Newbies and user talk page notification
You won't be surprised to hear that Steven Walling of the WMF, in full IDHT mode, dismisses your report of your class as "totally biased" and (the classic way to dismiss data one doesn't like) "a small sample". Just for interest, how many were in the class? JohnCD (talk) 09:21, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you. I've asked him for an explanation. There were five or so in the class, though I didn't message them all; and about a dozen in yesterday's, ditto. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:03, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Ashdod QRcode
Hi Andy, thank you for your comment and for the QRcode. Yes, you are right, there are 4 ordinary codes.
We were just experimenting with the graphics, and used QR type with a blank center for a logo or for a language flag. Will replace it soon by a "kosher" code.
By the way - would you consider developing a QRpedia code with place for logo? It will look better bearing the symbol of town, logo of museum etc. May be even the Wikipedia logo. A project will have a unified/unique look, different from any neighbor.
thank you Yoram Shoval Mr.Shoval (talk) 19:26, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
- That's certainly something to bear in mind; but remember that use of the Wikipedia logo requires WMF approval, which, regrettably, they have said they will not give. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:47, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

- Nice article, thanks. I changed van to Van before noticing that this is an absolute hornets' nest (see Talk:Vincent van Gogh/Archive 4#van Gogh or Van Gogh if you haven't already). Apologies. Not sure what to do now! I'd always assumed it was Vincent van Gogh, but Van Gogh when the surname alone was used; I now see that this is contentious, to put it mildly. When you shorten a heading please make sure you don't remove the context. The specific heading wasn't just about RFC's in general but in response to the RFC at named page. Thanks.TMCk (talk) 01:35, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Warning
As NYB explained already, filing this DRV was an abuse of process. I invite you to withdraw the disruptive DRV or I will need to block you until I have assurances that you will no longer disrupt the project by filing DRVs that you know in advance are an abuse of process. MBisanz talk 00:39, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- MBisanz, I think that might be a little too much. Andy acted misguidedly when he opened the DRV, but he was hardly being disruptive when he did so. How else could a non-administrator reverse another non-administrator's AFD closure except by using DRV? In any event, Spartaz has ended this whole silly affair by summarily closing the DRV, so further action by anyone would clearly be unnecessary at this stage. AGK [•] 06:57, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- If I was misguided, how come the closing admin has revised the outcome and re-closed with a different result? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:18, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- The result was substantively no different: the old article remains merged into the new article. All the rest is bureaucracy. AGK [•] 11:06, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- On the contrary: the new closure "Withdrawn by nominator, merge was editorial decision and subject to usual editorial processes" ends with a very significant qualifier. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:12, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks AGK. Andy should have discussed it with NYB and MZM, as NYB asked and as is mentioned in our deletion processes before going to DRV, but I'm glad Spartaz ended it. MBisanz talk 12:07, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

- Apologies; I was conflating you and MZMcBride. Nonetheless, your threat of a block was hysterical over-reaction. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:13, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- It would have been better if Pigsonthewing had articulated a more specific objection to MZMcBride's closing and what outcome he was seeking. Once Hobit put into words what he thought the problem was, the path to a resolution became clear. I endorse Spartaz's resolution of the matter and hope it has satisfied everyone's concerns. - I did so, both in my opening comment on MZMcBride's talk page, and again in reply to your question on that page. Since another editor has now edit warred (ignoring my BRD edit summary) to prevent my undoing of the redirect, citing that AfD; no, the outcome is not satisfactory. Newyorkbrad (talk) 14:01, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- Apologies; I was conflating you and MZMcBride. Nonetheless, your threat of a block was hysterical over-reaction. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:13, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Rock Drill (Jacob Epstein)
On 14 May 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Rock Drill (Jacob Epstein), which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that Epstein's Rock Drill, a vivid illustration of the greatest function of life, was destroyed and recreated? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Rock Drill (Jacob Epstein). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Infobox body of water/sandbox
I plan to have this synced with the main template, per the merger of infobox bay, infobox ocean, infobox lake. you may want to check the classes before it is synced, to avoid a second edit request. thank you. Frietjes (talk) 22:29, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the opportunity. There was nothing broken, but I've done some cleanup and added some extra detail. Did you see my comments on the talk page, from before the TfD, about the use of {[para|depth}} and adding an

parameter? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:40, 14 May 2013 (UTC)- replied there. Frietjes (talk) 22:52, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Rock Drill
I gave the article the lead hook for prep area 2. Sorry for the bother this has caused you; I've had similar inconveniences when one of my DYKs had the hook changed for something that turned out to be a non-issue.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 17:41, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello Pigsonthewing. An editor has complained about your actions at Wikipedia talk:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring#Self deletion: is this subject to 3RR?. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 01:47, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
- But, typically didn't inform me. Given that I reverted him, twice, for a clear breach of our guidelines, and not more than three rimes, he seems to be in the wrong place. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 08:58, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
- Not informing you is surely a lapse on his part, but per WP:REFACTOR I don't see the basis for you twice moving his comment so it appears in a different thread. As the refactoring page says, "If another editor objects to refactoring then the changes should be reverted." If you want admins to look into the issue of canvassing, you know how to proceed. RE: Walsall Museum and Art Gallery Wiki Editors
Hi Andy,
Sorry to trouble you and hope that you are keeping OK.
I must apologise for not getting in touch sooner only I have been very, very ill.
I enjoyed the first day of training at the gallery and for becoming part of something wonderful and hopefully something I could actively and passionately get involved in. Regretfully my damaged spinal condition cost me dearly last year, my fiance decided that she did not want a 'cripple' as a partner so ended the relationship and I also lost my job after 16 years working for the NHS as they found I could not perform 100% due to the levels of pain that I was in and for the effects of morphine upon my concentration and memory.
Alas, as I'm sure you would agree, suffering the condition I have was bad enough and the other situations certainly had an effect on my confidence. I was looking for something that I could do, something I could get passionate about, that could get me out when I could and work from my sick bed when I could not and felt that I'd found it in the Wiki project with the Gallery as it combined my interest in computers, writing and the arts.
Regretfully, the following night, I suffered additional damage to the nerves and was screaming with the agony and ended up in hospital on a morphine drip. I am now home but still on higher levels of morphine yet still very interested in becoming part of the Wiki team, attending their meet-ups and researching projects IF I were still permitted the chance to be part off that team.
I felt I'd best explain the situation and to apologise for my none attendance and ask if it were possible to still be part of such an interesting project and to be part of that team.
Kind regards,
Luke
