Recovering password of a long-standing account linked to a possibly expired email address?

Hi, I opened an account under username Julius.kusuma quite some time ago and have since forgotten my password. I fear that the email address linked to that account was my student email account that I no longer have access to. What can I do to re-gain access to my Wikipedia account? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Julius.kusuma

If this matters, I was able to reset the password on my Wikimedia account here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Julius.kusuma, however the same email account that I used to reset the Wikimedia account doesn't work on my Wikipedia account.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think you can recover your password. There may be a way to use your name and I'll look into it.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 22:00, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have more time today. I can't recall if this advice was given, but you could choose a new name and then follow the advice under WP:USURP. I think this is allowed if it's your own username, though for reasons that should be obvious you wouldn't want to do it with someone else's. An alternative is to start over with a new name. I con't think WP:CHU would work in your situation.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 18:51, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Paul Ashwood

Hello, I recently created an article entitled Paul Ashwood, and there's a displayauthors suggested message for reference 4. I've been editing the template (which has the displayauthors parameter in it, by the way), but I just can't seem to fix it. Can someone help me out? Jinkinson (talk) 01:09, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Next to the error message is a link to Help:CS1 errors#displayauthors. Apparently, you need to specify a maximum number of authors to be displayed. For example, |displayauthors=9 Scarce2 (talk) 03:20, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am aware of that. However, if you look at the template, you'll find that there is already a displayauthors parameter in there, and it is set to 10 (this should work since there are only 9 authors of the study). So even though there's a displayauthors there already it still suggests it on the main article, so I came here so someone could help me get rid of it. Elision of Animus

How can i improve my page Elision of Animus? I have been told its copyright. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fastcatz (talkcontribs) 09:13, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it seems that it's already been deleted. What you could do, if you want to recreate it, is write it based on the information that is written about it but this time put it in your own words. Dismas|(talk) 10:54, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The reason given for its deletion was not copyright violation (which as Dismas has explained, can be overcome), but "Article .. does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)". As far as I can tell, Elision really is not notable by Wikipedia's standards, so I doubt there is anything you can do about it. Maproom (talk) 10:59, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Neutron Polarisation By C. Braggatt (abstract indexer) From combined theory papers of Jennae and Poy, 1978

“…that a mass object such as this neutron should not have significance in chemical reactions is inconceivable, is over simplicity…!”

The authors here attempt proof that the neutron is polarisable into either a positive or negative charging, or to theory that it keeps the proton charges spread over a wide area of the nucleus. “…extra atom mass would slow evaporation, and maybe separation in the earth’s cooling down period into atom types was by a process of “neutronography”(sic) [neutron cascade], but in any event must serve more purpose than being a spectator particle of a chemical reaction.” Mention here is also made of a gravity well where protons polarise neutrons to yield a negative charge(!), and that electrons are not charged species at all, but just agitated (maybe vibration) states. Here, in a chemical reaction of joining atoms together, it is the nuclear mass that tugs on the adjoining electrons, but may tug on nucleuses with neutrons adding charge to repel any too-close contact. (sorry, I took degree in art). Confused. I can understand electrons having no real charge outside the magnetic field, but need elucidation on further points! In an endnote commentary, the authors speculate that neutrons could keep protons apart and so lower this energy. But do electrons (I recall transition types) move into smaller dispersed orbitals (D’s) to enable greater nuclear feel?( think electrons here are supposed to slow to be in synchronicity with remaining electrons. “Electrons are handshaking with approaching atoms to get nucleuses together and the neutrons are there to stabilise the union.” I must agree that a neutron must be there for some reason, and not just a lingering spectator item, but am still perplexed. Jennae stated electrons are not important in chemical bonding but are like a net to grab another nucleus.(!) He postulated electrons are given a sideways kick and move out of the way (and may have the form of “…pushing two octopuses together feets first!”) (sic). Protons here would have a negative charge too! In summary: the authors theorise that neutrons separate energies, or prevent charge being placed only on one side of the nucleus during a chemical reaction. In polarising the protons would lose their positive charge and create a miniature whole atom system in the nuclear shell. (here, I presume electrons have no charge but just vibration “agitation”) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carolbragger (talkcontribs) 12:23, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Does this have to do with an existing article, or do you propose to create a new article? What journal was the paper published in? Was it a peer-reviewed journal that can be considered a reliable source, or is the material likely to be tagged as fringe science? Robert McClenon (talk) 16:07, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
From the title I suspect this OP wishes to upload a new unreviewed paper containing ideas or questions to stimulate scientific debate. If so, they need to be aware that Wikipedia, a tertiary source, doesn't publish original research. - Karenjc (talk) 08:50, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request wikilinks be created from reference note citations for "Weeks, Mary Elvira" to Mary Elvira Weeks.

Apologies, but this kind of detail work is hard for my eyes/fingers. Also, the name tends to be buried in cite templates and last first named and the like. Perhaps someone who is adept has an automated or semiautomated method.

Request a class article on bromofluorocarbons

Please create a proper article on BFCs (want to link to it, not to a redirect to a Halon dab!). Stub could have simple description of the chemical class (molecules based on these atoms), little bit about major usage, explain the common usage of term Halon, describe the ozone destroying effects. Obvoiusly you could knock yourself out and write about synthesis and producers and all that crap, but no need. Enough of a stub so it doesn't get deleted or merged back into oblivion.

Not sure if converting the redirect or the Halon dab is the way to go.

    A dispute

    Hi there,

I wanted to create an article about my professor whose name is fong chan, but the people who chat with me did not believe me that he has contributed the field amazingly, not they did no accept my proofs. When I asked them to check it by themselves, they did not do it as well. Please help me about it — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.236.31.67 (talk) 07:26, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds as if the people you are talking to have questioned whether the Professor is notable: this is a word used in a special way in Wikipedia, and people often misunderstand it. It is not about whether the person is important or has contributed, but solely about whether other people have written about the subject in reliable places. So the question comes down to, Are there articles about Fong in reliable sources such as major newspapers or peer-reviewed journals? If there are, then he meets the criteria for notability; if there are not, then he does not, and there cannot be an article about him. (The sources do not have to be in English, though English sources are preferable, if they exist). I suggest you read WP:PROF and WP:YFA. --ColinFine (talk) 08:15, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Your IP address seems only to have made two edits: you submitted a blank article with no content, and you posted this question. Obviously a blank article with no content can't be put into the encyclopaedia, and I can't see any sign of the proofs you mention. If by "the people who chat with me" you're referring to a discussion in our IRC channel, that's a useful place to ask questions, but the people there won't write your article or go and look for sources that discuss him. I see you already have a message on your talk page from the volunteers at the WP:Teahouse, who also offer help to new users. - Karenjc (talk) 08:33, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean for you to copy the markup that made it look pretty on this page. What I meant was this this:
    {{cite web |title=The Day {{!}} Salem Four Corners traffic circle to start rounding into shape {{!}} News from southeastern Connecticut |last=Johnson |first=Jeffrey A |url=http://www.theday.com/article/20120806/NWS01/308069969/1044 |date=06-08-2012 |accessdate=06-10-2013 |publisher=The Day}}
    which gives:
Johnson, Jeffrey A (06-08-2012). "The Day | Salem Four Corners traffic circle to start rounding into shape | News from southeastern Connecticut". The Day. Retrieved 06-10-2013. {{cite web}}: Check date values in: |accessdate= and |date= (help)
However, because you are citing a newspaper, {{cite news}} is probably a better choice. Concider this:
    {{cite news |title=Salem Four Corners traffic circle to start rounding into shape |last=Johnson |first=Jeffrey A. |url=http://www.theday.com/article/20120806/NWS01/308069969/1044 |date=6 August 2012 |newspaper=[[The Day (New London)|The Day]]}}
    which gives:
Johnson, Jeffrey A. (6 August 2012). "Salem Four Corners traffic circle to start rounding into shape". The Day.
What I changed and why: The original title in the citation should be just the article title. The added text "The Day" and "News from southeastern Connecticut" is not part of the title and if included corrupts the template's COinS metadata output; date format because as it was, the format doesn't comply with MOS:DATEFORMAT (and because 06-08-2012 is ambiguous: 6 August or 8 June?); |newspaper= instead of |publisher= because The Day is a newspaper so is properly italicized; the article is dated material so |accessdate= is relatively unimportant in comparison so I removed it.

How can I add a new topic in Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.252.4.21 (talk) 07:30, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First search carefully to see if the topic is already here under a different name. If it is not, then consider carefully if the subject is notable, and is verifiable through independent, published reliable sources. If it is, you can use the Articles for Creation process to get a draft reviewed and possibly accepted into Wikipedia. Or you can register an account and simply create an article, but using the AFC process is often a better way for relatively new editors here. DES (talk) 08:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you have enabled HotCat in your preferences but despite that you sometimes cannot use that, am I understanding this correctly? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 11:17, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. I've tried it in a couple of different browsers, cleared the cache, unchecked and checked HotCat in my preferences - but no luck. Hack (talk) 11:35, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it works for me (see for example this test in my sandbox). Do you see the symbols (++) and (−) (±) at the bottom of an article or are they not present at all? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 11:52, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have JavaScript enabled in your browser settings? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 12:04, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I do. Just wondering if there were any known issues with particular gadgets or scripts clashing. Hack (talk) 13:19, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Does the appearance and disappearance coincide with a change of the namespace the page is located in? Note for example that HotCat is not enabled in template namespace. Other than that, I fear I have no idea what the problem could be. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 13:41, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just trying to use it in mainspace. Tried it in three different browsers. It's got to be something to do with my settings. Hack (talk) 17:17, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Archiving

When archiving a talk page, must I archive absolutely everything or can I then bring any current discussions back to the live page? Help:Archiving a talk page#Continuing discussions says only that there is ongoing work on this issue. My case in point is Talk:Birmingham New Street railway station which is quite long and a good 95% of the material is over two years old. Also that Help page states that talk pages can be archived when they reach about 75KB, but I can't find any indication of how many KB any talk page has got to. exoplanation of out of body and near death experiences

    Extended content

Cannot understand how to submit an article. will this work?

Possible Explanation of “Out of Body” and “Near death” Experiences

    Carl Lahser

In 1965 I was in a serious automobile accident out in the country about thirty miles from the nearest large hospital. I was in and out of consciousness several times and then had what I thought, at the time, was a “near death’ or “out of body” experience. I seemed to be flying along outside the ambulance seeing fluorescent green trees against a black sky. A disembodied voice said they would stop at the hospital and then go on to the morgue. I wondered which stop was for me. Then I woke up in the emergency room having my clothes cut off. I had been curious about this incident for years. I recently had my annual eye examination and the doctor asked if I had any problem sleeping. I told him I had begun using a sleeping mask. My wife wanted to read in bed and the light bothered me. The doctor explained this was lagophthalmos, a common problem of old age caused by a malfunction of the facial nerve or when the eyelids lose muscle tension. This causes incomplete blinking causing dry eyes and relaxing of the eyelids during sleep allowing light to enter the eyes. For women past 40 there is a common dysfunction of the meibomian glands called blepharitis. It causes an inflammation of the eyelids and dry eyes. It occurred to me that this was probably the cause of my “out of body” vision being semiconscious and the eyelids opening slightly and looking out of the ambulance racing through the night through the East Texas piney woods. This might also be the explanation of other similar visions of people “dying” in hospitals on the operating table and in hospital halls and rooms seeing a bright light or seeing their body from outside the body. There are definitely bright lights and reflecting surfaces in hospitals as well as voices of visitors and medical staff talking. This vision through relaxed eyelids and sounds or voices would certainly make an impression on a semiconscious mind.

An extension of this thinking might explain weird dreams, nightmares, and night terrors as a result of this relaxed eyelid condition. Passing automobile headlights flashing through bedroom windows. Nightlights casting strange shadows or illuminating objects in the room from unusual angles. Lights being projected through pin holes like a pinhole camera. Numbers on a digital clock or electrical pilot lights seen through temporarily slightly open eyes could register on the subconscious. Lights seeming to move caused by erratic eye movement (nystagmus or REM sleep). This might be scary or blend into the existing dream state.

Anyway I have satisfied myself that I was not outside my body or near death and that what I saw was real. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eumops 37 (talkcontribs) 16:19, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering about an image I have been trying to get the copyright sorted for if anything is actually getting done about it since I got the relevant person to e-mail the appropriate info and it doesn't seem to have had anything done about it yet and I am sure the email was sent about a week ago now. I apologize if this is the wrong place to put this query i was unsure where to ask.

Was it File:Mediator Mike Gaston.jpg or File:Singing Mike Gaston.jpg? The former was deleted for lack of permission - see here) and the latter has received and recorded the permissions and is now a candidate for being copied to Commons so it can be more widely used. - Karenjc (talk) 22:59, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is File:Mediator Mike Gaston.jpg I am referring to, File:Singing Mike Gaston.jpg had been deleted at the same time but reinstated once the email had been received but this does not seem to have happened with the other and I am trying to find out why or if there is more needs to be done to sort this out.

You'll probably have more success if you ask about this at the OTRS noticeboard. Make sure you specify the name of the deleted image and approximately when the permission was sent. - Karenjc (talk) 07:38, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Academics Notability

I think I may qualify as an academics. But of course it is for others at Wikipedia to decide if an article about me, Paul S. Wang (http://www.cs.kent.edu/~pwang), is worthwhile.

You're right that you are strongly discouraged from writing an article about yourself: see WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Notability for academics is defined at WP:PROF. You could request an article about yourself at Wikipedia:Requested articles, although the backlog is huge and realistically there's little chance of it happening soon. The alternative is to wait until somebody decides you're a good subject for an article and writes one, I'm afraid. - Karenjc (talk) 07:27, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Roberto221 (talk) 00:15, 8 October 2013 (UTC) Roberto221[reply]

The edit that you performed here was done correctly though it's probably not the right way to handle this. If the game is known by the new name, Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, then the article should be moved to its new title. That said, the move should probably be discussed on the talk page first. Dismas|(talk) 00:51, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) You can't redirect Maaco Bowl Las Vegas to Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl because the latter article doesn't exist. I suspect that what you want to do is to change the wording in Maaco Bowl Las Vegas article to reflect the fact that the event has changed its name to Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, then you can move the article to the new title "Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl" using the process described at WP:Move. This will automatically leave a redirect from Maaco Bowl Las Vegas to the new title. - David Biddulph (talk) 00:53, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssankaran: Hello, it's not clear from your question what you are trying to ask. Further, your recent article creation, here where instead of creating an article, you asked a question, suggests that you may not be quite up to speed on the proper usage of article space, vs. Help Desk space: "sirvi or seervi caste community certificate pali zilla which category it belongs. Can't find recently created article

Hello, I recently created an article titled "Sonatas and Partias for Solo Violin", or, I think I created it, but it isn't showing up anywhere. How long does it take to appear after creation? Or if that's not the issue, could you tell me what is, and how to get it to appear? Thank you, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Violiniste (talkcontribs) 04:40, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Violiniste: Hello! Your new-ish article appears to still be located here in the Articles for creation space, which you can locate by checking your contribution history. Looks like you still have a way to go before it can be submitted for consideration. In its current state, it would likely be classified a stub if it were released into the wild, but it would also likely be nominated for deletion because it lacks any references.
That said, I happened to notice that there is an existing, similarly titled article, Sonatas and partitas for solo violin (Bach) (partitas vs partias ?). While you do appear to be a recent contributor at that article, it doesn't appear that you created the article. (Of course if you happen to be ViolinGirl, then you appear to be an early contributor, circa 2005. Anyhow, that's what I've been able to glean.) I don't know much about the classical musix, but if you were interested in deleting your current article, and instead fleshing out the existing article (assuming they are on the same subject), you might want to request a page deletion. Drop us a note here and someone should be able to help you with that, including me. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:57, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, wait, I just noticed your edit summary here in which you write, "Explained why the solo violin works have come to be called "Partita" rather than "Partia", as Bach originally titled them." Again, I know nothing about the classical musics, but if Bach's "sonatas and partias" are the same thing as Bach's "sonatas and partitas", the only difference being minor difference in spelling, we could create a redirect from the original "partias", to the more common "partitas", which would spare you the effort of re-writing the article, and then you could attempt to clarify the difference between "partia" and "partita" on the main article. Does that make sense? Basically, if "Encyclopaedia" is the same thing as "Encyclopedia" let's just redirect visitors from "Encyclopaedia" to "Encyclopedia" and call it a day. @67.168.73.109: Hi, it's not clear from your question what you mean by "a wiki page attributed to me". Do you mean that there is an article ABOUT you, or that there is an article where you are listed as a creator/editor? I only see three edits in your IP's edit history. Are you referring to the article on Guy Maddison? For what reason would you propose that it be deleted? The article appears to be created by a user named Natalukas in 2007, not by your IP address. We need more information to be able to help you effectively. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:18, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you are talking about an article about you, then a good starting point would be to look at Wikipedia's policy on Biographies of Living Persons, especially the section on dealing with articles about yourself. Wikipedia doesn't automatically remove material on request, but there is an obligation to ensure that articles about living people are accurate, well sourced, balanced and not unduly intrusive. - Karenjc (talk) 06:50, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The two pages have different tasks, but their information should not contradict each other. If you could provide an example of any contradictory information, we can look into resolving this. All information that may be disputed should have a source in the article that backs it up, and if you find information that doesn't, especially if it contradicts that of another article, feel free to try to find a citation, or use one from the other page to correct the content.  drewmunn  talk  08:13, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Wikipedia editing policy

    Dear Wikipedia,

I have been giving donations to wikipedia for the past 3 years and this Wikipedia is my main source of information - mostly about history and science. I frequently perform minor editing of pages.

I was shocked when I read this page.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Sheldrake

The header of the article is highly derogatory to the scientist. It seems that a group of wikipedia editor with little or no training in the scientific method has decided to put down researchers interested in fringe topics as could be seen here http://guerrillaskepticismonwikipedia.blogspot.com.

While I do not necessarily concur with Sheldrake's ideas, there are other ways to balance points of view than insulting individuals.

I also find it shocking that a group of editor could associate with each other in an attempt to diffuse their ideas and beliefs (whatever that idea it might be).

    Best regards,

    A. Delorme — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.29.182.139 (talk) 05:57, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, A. Delorme. The article that you are discussing appears to be undergoing development, and has a lively discussion going on on its talk page at Talk:Rupert Sheldrake. If you find the article unacceptable, perhaps you can advocate on that page to change particular sections of it by pointing the editors to reliable sources which support your changes, or by suggesting changes to the language that you find derogatory. —Anne Delong (talk) 06:26, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, it's probably also worth mentioning that since it's common knowledge that Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, it is also generally understood that Wikipedia can be edited by anyone. (Yes, I deliberately said the same thing twice.) An encyclopedia that can be edited by the world is a dynamic process that can in some moments produce mind-boggling chaos, and in other moments produce academic greatness. Participation is always the best way to inspire change, and maybe a great place to begin is on the article's talk page, guided by Anne Delong's comments above. Unwanted page, which is also inaccurate

Somebody created this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caspar_Bowden) about me based on a Guardian artcile. The Guardian has now corrected its story (check the cited URL, but they took a week to do it), so I would prefer if the Wikipedia page about me was simply deleted

I don't want a Wikipedia page, 60% of the biog (by wordcount) is wrong (based on the errors in the Guardian article), and there is a serious point at issue :

I am a privacy guy - why should I have unwanted data collected about me because I exercise free speech to criticize people collecting unwanted data about me?. Especially because the page was only created on the basis of a journalists' cynical twists to get a viral headline?
