Scarface The World Is Yours

Your Wiki Page regarding video Game Scarface The World Is Yours credits Viken Heineken as additionally voicing the character of Tony Montana. This is untrue. André Sogliuzzo is the only actor credited, and the only actor who actually did the voice of Tony Montana in Scarface The World Is Yours. I should know because I am he. Check the game credits for proof. There is no such actor as Viken Heineken. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andresogliuzzo (talkcontribs) 00:12, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see Viken listed at all. CTF83! 00:22, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There is no mention of Viken Heineken in Scarface: The World Is Yours. I guess you mean the article Tony Montana where you removed it before posting here. Thanks for fixing that article. If you still see the error on another page here at en.wikipedia.org then please post a link to it. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:31, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

only edit to user page?

What do we do about things like this User:Lakshmi K. Raut - the users only contribution about a year ago was to place a semi-promotional blurb about themselves on their user page? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:23, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AUTHOR

who is the author? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.205.135.75 (talk) 03:36, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you are trying to find the author of a particular article, there are likely several editors who have worked on that article and not one single author. If you're trying to cite a Wikipedia article for a paper that you are writing for a school assignment, there is a "Cite this article" link on the left side menu of every article. For more info, you can read Wikipedia:Citing Wikipedia. Dismas|(talk) 04:06, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Overlinking - geographical features

According to WP:OVERLINK, major geographic features and locations should not be linked. Is there anywhere (essay, guideline, etc) where there is a consensus on what this actually means? For example, are the United States and Kyrgyzstan both major geographic features/locations. Hack (talk) 03:59, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As with many things here, some context is needed. If you're writing an article about North America, it would be silly not to link United States. But if you're writing the biography of someone and you say that they visited the United States, then it's probably not necessary to link it. It doesn't have any great importance to the subject, so no link is necessary. See what I mean? Dismas|(talk) 04:13, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the point you are making but I am trying to find where or how a major geographic feature or location is defined. Hack (talk) 05:12, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It depends entirely on context. In an article about topography in general, it may be worthwhile to link the word mountain. However, in an article about, say New Hampshire, it would not be worthwhile to link the word "mountain" in noting that Mount Washington is the tallest mountain in New Hampshire. It depends on whether you mean "should I link commons words about geographic features like 'mountain' 'lake' 'river' directly" or if you mean "should I like names of specific mountains, lakes, etc. directly". I would say the former should be used sparingly, and only when the context of the article leads to a natural link (for example, linking the word "river" in an article discussing hydrology or water bodies specifically), while the latter should be linked whenever a specific geographic feature is first introduced (for example, in an article like France, it's OK to link the names of specific rivers like Rhone River or the Seine River. --Jayron32 05:44, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Have problems citing sources

I want some stats to put into Chorus_Limited#Copper. I found conflicting stats on the Chorus website, so I emailed their press contact person. I got an answer back that is different from all the stats on the website. I assume the stats the press contact provided are the most up to date ones, but I can't cite it for the article. What can I do? F (talk) 12:11, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

we cite what is verifiable as published in reliable sources. a personal e-mail to you is not reliable. if after they took the time to communicate with you, they didnt bother to update their website, thats not our issue. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:42, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So I either use the new data and leave it uncited, or I use the old data with citation. So frustrating. F (talk) 13:52, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you're in email contact with them anyway, why not ask that they update the website? Once that's done the article can be updated without concerns that you're replacing sourced data with unsourced. DonIago (talk) 13:56, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is it acceptable to upload a diagram based on a copyrighted scientific article?

• The article is copyrighted (2004)
• The diagram to be uploaded was drawn by myself, it's not a scan.
• The diagram shows a hierarchy of techniques for solving a problem

I couldn't find a suitable category in the File Upload Wizard. The closest appears to be

This file is entirely my own work. I am the copyright holder. I made this myself, from scratch, without copying or incorporating anybody else's creative work, and I am willing to release it under a free license.

and that's clearly not accurate. Does that really mean we can't show this hierarchy? The copyrightholder didn't invent the techniques, he just made a diagram showing their relationships. Thanks for any clarification. pgr94 (talk) 13:04, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pgr94. The answer is: it depends. If the original is sufficiently complex as to constitute an exercise of creative expression, and if you have essentially reproduced it with minor changes, then your version is a derivative - not an original - work, and can't be used here. If the original is not sufficiently complex - for example, if it's just a collection of techniques placed in order, with perhaps a few simple lines connecting them - then it may not constitute an original creative expression, and so would not be subject to copyright; in this case, either your version or the original could be used. If you've based your diagram on the original, but it's significantly different enough to be an original work in itself, then you can use it here under the category you've quoted above. Unfortunately, without seeing the images in question, it's hard to make a call one way or the other. Yunshui  13:17, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply Yunshui. It looks similar to this organisational chart [1] obviously with different text. If the text is changed from what appears in the article, then it is no longer accurate. The items can of course be shuffled around. Copyright law is frustrating when it comes to trivial things like this. :( pgr94 (talk) 13:29, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You can't copyright facts— the usual example is a telephone directory. You can copyright the arrangement or presentation, but org charts are not a creative expression unless you really add something to them. --  Gadget850 talk 15:20, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How can I disable the notifications?

How can I disable the facebook-like notifications that show as a red number at the top near my user links? Can I choose what to see there, or change the annoying (for me) red color to something prettier? Sofia Koutsouveli (talk) 15:03, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Go to Special:Preferences and select the Notifications tab. You can disable all notifications except for new talkpage messages. No news on whether you can make it a prettier colour, though... Yunshui  15:06, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rename my recent new entries

I recently created two new entries for Wikipedia which I named asx-turn and ST-turn. They both belong to the category protein structural motif. Looking at the other names chosen for motifs within the category I now realize that almost everybody else omits dashes from their names. For example "alpha helix" "beta sheet" etc. are not "alpha-helix" and "beta-sheet". This makes me feel, for consistency, I had better ask you to rename my recent new entries "asx turn" and "ST turn". If you will be kind enough to do this and tell me I will then change all the text and link names accordingly. Thanks JamesMilnerWhite — Preceding unsigned comment added by JamesMilnerWhite (talkcontribs) 15:23, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesMilnerWhite: I don't know anything about protein naming but your account is old enough to rename them yourself. We call it moving. See Wikipedia:Moving a page. It leaves a redirect so links to the old names still work. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:35, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What was the article called? AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:01, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As a practical suggestion, I would always make a copy of any new article in your own namespace, say as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:JOX67/MyArticle (substitute your own article's name for MyArticle). Unlike a mainspace article, a copy in your own namespace should usually be safe from deletion. StuRat (talk) 16:21, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Users are not "reinstated with a new account in the same name". A block can be lifted and the old account continue editing, or a new account can be created with another name. The account User:JOX67 was created yesterday.[2] It has no live or deleted edits and I can see no sign the account has been blocked. When were the missing edits made? Have you previously edited with another username? PrimeHunter (talk) 16:49, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There's an account JOX1967 (talk · contribs) - could it be that? Peter James (talk) 18:46, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Seems likely, but that account has never been blocked - I'd hazard that the OP is using "was blocked" to mean "lost the password"... Yunshui  23:57, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

: ([[|talk]]|edit|history|logs|links|watch) (restore)

deleted out of process by administrator User:RHaworth as WP:G12 : Unambiguous copyright infringement of {url} - Mosfetfaser (talk) 17:14, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As @RHaworth: explained to you on his talk page, while the phrase "Unambiguous copyright infringement" is slightly misleading, the image is not a free photo and not one that qualifies for a FAIR use claim because the subject is a living person, and therefore under Wikipedia's copyright rules mandate the removal of the image. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:32, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You as the nominator for deletion are involved - the fact is I uploaded the file as fair use non free and speedy deletion as a copyright violation was wrong, false , and I am requesting a review of that admins actions/speedy deletion for their claimed false reasons - please format a deletion review for me - Mosfetfaser (talk) 17:37, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Whether notation had said "This is a picture of a person dressed in blue which is illegal to post in every country of the world" or "pghtpagfjsljljke", it would not make the copyright picture of a living person any less against the policies of Wikipedia images and less subject to immediate deletion. The picture does not meet the requirements for use on Wikipedia and will be deleted no matter what the reason the initial deletor placed in the summary. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:44, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
• looking for assistance here to create a deletion review discussion regarding this file? 18:03, 21 March 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mosfetfaser (talkcontribs)
Wikipedia:Deletion review is probably the avenue you are looking for. Although going by the above it's not likely to get the result you are looking for. Per the non-free content criteria photos of living people are replaceable and not normally permitted. Яehevkor 18:16, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are supposed to fill out the fields like this (there is no xfd_page for the file so that can be blank):
~~~~
But first see Wikipedia:Non-free content. Wikipedia itself is non-commercial but we allow others to reuse our content, including all images, for commercial purposes. This means we cannot allow images with a license saying they are only for non-commercial use, unless there is a valid fair-use rationale. Claiming there will probably be no free image of a living person for years is unlikely to get support as a valid rationale. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:28, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong Talk Page attached to article
It's a long story, but in the process of renaming an article and creating disambiguation links, the talk page for Paul Baum (mathematician) has gotten attached to the article Paul Baum (artist) and I can't figure out how to fix it. Renaming does not seem the way to go. WQUlrich (talk) 17:41, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, it just looks like the artist's talk page redirects to the mathematician's, meaning that all we have to do is blank the redirect. Has there ever been a talk page for the artist? If so, its history might need to be restored from somewhere. Writ Keeper  17:44, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Picture Posted without Permission!
Alright, I'm posting on here cause I keep going in circle's to try and find where to send message about a complaint and it's important and is going here. I was called over by friends of mine as they showed me a picture I took with my old phone in 2009 of my eye while I was in the parking lot of Lowes sitting in the car. My old phone went missing when it wasn't were it was when I left it, so we knew it got stolen and later we tried to have it turned off. Well the girl's eye in this picture here.
File:HumanFemalewithAmberIris.jpg
Is me, and I know for a fact cause the eye shape and color is mine exactly and was not photoshopped in anyway, along with what hair you can see color is exact, the eyebrow shape and color is exact. Also I remember the picture plain as day, but due to the fact it went missing I can not really prove it's me, however I know it is and I'm not happy with it being posted on here and google images especially with someone claiming it as "their work" and saying what camera and such was used. when it's not enhanced, not took with camera only a phone, and is not their work it's MY picture off stolen phone. t might seem ridiculous but with how bad identify theft and stuff is going on, I don't want it on here and I will make sure it's removed cause identity theft and everyone knows Wikipedia isn't a good site to refer to or trust as all, it's why it's not used in schools. So asking kindly, please remove my picture or something to remove it. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.181.195.166 (talk) 23:16, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Note: The camera is in the metadata, which is something the image added. One is probably not going to go to the lengths to change that data, so if it's not a camera phone model, it's probably not you. - Purplewowies (talk) 23:22, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you mean the article List of Rhodes Scholars, you will see that at the top it says it is "A partial list of Rhodes Scholars covering notable people who are also Rhodes Scholarship recipients". In Wikipedia terms, that "notable" means that it is a list of people who have an article about them. If Ms Kafoure ever gets her own article, backed up by references to reliable independent sources, then that article can be added to the list. I hope that helps.     It's apparently about Morgan Williams (rugby union). The article says he "was fired from his position as the head coach of the Canadian national men's sevens team by Rugby Canada". If he still does other work for Rugby Canada then the article sounds misleading. Anything with "fired" gives the impression you no longer work there unless otherwise stated.     Edit page MALFUNCTIONED!
I was attempting to edit a section of the Wikipedia page, Agnes Martin. In the section entitled "Legacy", I saw much text pertinent to that section, and wanted to add the following: "On March 22, 2014, which would have been her 102nd birthday, Agnes Martin was honored by the internet search engine Google with a special doodle on its homepage, capturing the unique style of Martin's artwork.", or something to that effect. When I clicked "Edit", I was expecting to see the same text I saw on that page. However, when the editing page loaded, I was HORRIFIED to see that MOST of the text MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARED! I SWEAR I did NOT "do anything wrong", I only wanted to contribute, but I did NOT expect THIS to happen to me! My question is, what could have possibly gone WRONG? This "incident" occurred at approximately 7:00 AM, EDT this morning. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I hope I'm NOT in trouble, but please note this post as part of any possible investigation as to what may have gone wrong this morning, here on Wikipedia.     Birch Beer
Hi,
I noticed that Avery's Soda in New Britain wasn't listed under Birch Beer. This beverage company was founded in 1904 in New Britain and has been making birch beer longer than most companies listed under 'birch beer'.
Appreciate any updates to that effect.
Thank you, Kathy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.62.152.116 (talk) 20:53, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The Birch beer article includes a list of brands for which Wikipedia has an article. If you would like to create an article for Avery's Soda (Avery's Beverages) then please let us know, and we'd be glad to provide assistance.
Reference for personal knowledge
I was reading an entry about my great-uncle (deceased) and realized one fact was wrong. I do not have an article to cite. I have this information from my great-uncle's sister, who is my grandmother, and it was often repeated in the family, especially by my mother, because this missing fact caused a breach. My grandmother never talked to her brother during my lifetime because of this fact. I did not put in any disputed facts, just a neutral description of the action that caused the breach. I am missing a reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Olivia Schulberg (talkcontribs) 21:37, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If there are certain errors in an article, or if there are problems with the sources it happens to cite, editors are allowed to exercise editorial discretion. But I don't think we're allowed to add factoids that can't possibly be backed up with reliable sources. Maybe you could leave a brief note on the article's talkpage. It could lead to someone finding a suitable source someday down the road. Good luck.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 22:17, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Referencing errors on The Singers Unlimited
Reference help requested. I have completely revised the "Discography" on the page for "Singers Unlimited" but I can't get the system to accept my edits of the discography section. And, I am being confused by the explanations given about a "Reference List". I have replaced all the lines in the discography that had errors in them with verifiable information from the 15 original Singers Unlimited vinyl LP records because the information on almost all the existing lines had errors on almost every line, especially with regard to dates of the recordings and the original album numbers, and the sequence of the release of the albums. I have corrected all the incorrect references with verifiable facts. But the system rejects my input saying that I have created a "reference list error". So, here are all the corrected lines that should be in the discography.
Will someone there please replace the existing lines of the discography with these lines which are all veritably accurate. I can't figure out how to use "Wikipediaese" ""reflist"".
Thanks, DanMcGarigle (talk) 02:37, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done. You had a ref tag below reflist. (I took the liberty of cutting the discography and the headings in your above message, hope you don't mind!) Best, Sam Sailor Sing 02:51, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@DanMcGarigle: (e/c) Hi Dan. Please see Help:Referencing for beginners. In short, citations to reliable sources go inside the text, directly next to the things they verify, and those citations, inside of  tags, are collated and displayed in the references section you properly placed through the reflist template. You cannot place a citation inside of ref tags below the reflist template, which will result in an error message. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:58, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Recovering history of old article
Several years ago, around 2009, I added a small, but in my view significant change to
Incompleteness of quantum physics.
I felt very good that the change I made was accepted in further development of the article.
Now the above address has been redirected to
I very much would like to recover the history over the time I made my small change to the no-longer-existing article I contributed to.
I cannot find a way to trace back to that original article.
Can you please help me?
Again, what I'm looking for is the history of the first-cited article above. Can that be retrieved? And if so, can you give me advice on how to do it?
I sent to Wikipedia the background to the use of this photograph which was as follows. The photograph was taken by the photographer, Helen Neale in 2010. Helen Neale gave me permission to use the photograph and I sent this e-mail to Wikipedia when I saw the query about the use of the photograph. Despite this the image has been removed! Can you tell me how I go about reinstalling the image which is of the person the page is about, the use of the image has been authorised by the photographer and Wikipedia was sent the information.     Citing a web forum
We have an established way to cite Newsgroups, through the cite newsgroup template. But how would I go about citing a post in a web forum board? For what it's worth, web forum boards (forum has no plural) essentially are an HTTP evolution of the newgroup. Yannis A. | 16:27, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know where you got that, but, as far as I know, the plural of forum is forums or fora. Anon126 (talk - contribs) 17:10, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Alas, too few people would understand fora, and forums is a neologism that must be avoided like the plague. This is, of course, just my opinion. Anyway, you didn't provide an answer to my question, just commentary. Yannis A. | 17:27, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Forum posts are self-published sources and should only rarely be cited. If it's a mailing list which also has a web interface then you can use Cite mailing list. Otherwise you can just use Cite web with the forum name in the website parameter. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:26, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not an advertising platform or a directory. In order to have a stand alone article about a subject, the topic must have been the subject of significant coverage by reliably published, independent sources. As someone with a conflict of interest you should not create or directly edit an article about yourself and instead wait for someone with no connection to you to do so. You can make a suggestion at the "requested article" notice board and see if someone there will create the article. Providing the reliable third party sources would be an incentive to a potential writer. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:37, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Question about "help:page name" example
On "help:page name" the example http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f3/Pagename_explanation2.png has a caption saying, "...and the URL is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvo_D'Acquisto" as an external (non-wikilink). Shouldn't it be an internal/Wikilink?
Just FWIW from an "anal-yst"! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Webistrator (talkcontribs) 17:45, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
An external link with the usual external link icon seems appropriate when a URL is displayed. It's made automatically as you can see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvo_D'Acquisto (click edit to see I wrote the url just like that). A wikilink would be the code Salvo D'Acquisto which produces Salvo D'Acquisto (I don't know why the example used underscore instead of space). I'm not sure why you think the example should be different but maybe Help:Link will clear it up for you. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:47, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see you posted another formulation at Help talk:Page name#Example "Pagename explanation2.png" shows an external URL to Wikipedia -- ???. That may shed more light on the source of confusion so I copy part of my reply here: "a wikilink is defined by how it's made (with double square brackets, see Help:Link), and not by where it goes. google:example is a wikilink (click edit to see how I made it). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvo_D'Acquisto is not a wikilink." In the U.S.A. marchers began in New Orleans, San Diego, and San Francisco, in Canada marchers began in Montreal and Toronto. The San Fransisco March began on Oct. 21, 1981 with a ceremony on Alcatraz. 13 marchers, being Buddhist followers of Nipponzan-Myōhōji, Native Americans, U.S. and German citizens, began the S.F. march. marching about 20 mile per day they were hosted each night by community groups in every town and on Native reservations. many mayors and town councils made proclamations and such honoring the the peace and disarmament marchers. over the course of the march citizens were moved to join.     Right, the line is customized for the English Wikipedia at MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer. Nearly all customizations are only made for the default English language. It's possible to do for other language settings, in your case at MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer/hu, but there are hundreds of languages and we don't bother. You can see the English interface without changing language or logging out by adding ?uselang=en to the url, for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Norden1990?uselang=en. If the url already has a '?' then add &uselang=en. I have made a script to do this with a click: User:PrimeHunter/English interface.js. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:04, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Problems with moving an article into Wikipedia
I attempted to move an article from my sandbox to Wikipedia. The article is about the extreme endurance athlete Bill Bradley who recently set a world record. Since there is a very famous athlete/senator Bill Bradley who already has a page, I thought using the title Bill Bradley, extreme endurance athlete would be sufficient to distinguish the page.
Unfortunately, the title was inappropriate and I was not allowed to move the page. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to undo what I have done and try again to move the page. Can you assist with this or tell me what to do?
The url still seems to be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jabailey1/sandbox, though there is now a note that says the article has been redirected.
Thank you for your assistance.
Jabailey1 (talk) 22:59, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The move form has a namespace dropdown box where you must choose "(Article)". However, we use parentheses for disambiguation like at Bill Bradley (disambiguation). "Bill Bradley (endurance athlete)" would work. It shouldn't be too long and "extreme" is not needed. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:28, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I moved the page back, which you can do if there's no other history at the page you moved it from. I've tagged the userpage you created when you moved it to the new page for deletion. The page is now actually at User:Jabailey1/sandbox. - Purplewowies (talk) 23:33, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On the basis that disambiguating titles should be as simple as possible, I have moved it to Bill Bradley (athlete) and converted the redirect on the sandbox page to a plain wikilink.--ukexpat (talk) 18:04, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose that title as too generic for disambiguation here. Athlete can be used about many sports and Bill Bradley (disambiguation) shows five other athletes with articles. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:44, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Opposition noted, page now back at Bill Bradley (endurance athlete).--ukexpat (talk) 20:21, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I think Bill Bradley (athlete) should either be deleted or redirect to Bill Bradley (disambiguation). PrimeHunter (talk) 20:43, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Editing TV show episodes in advance
Hello, I am trying to establish if there are any specific guidelines about editing TV show episode numbers in advance. I keep coming across an editor (120.147.113.111) who routinely advances the number of episodes a TV series has telecast, before the episode has aired.
A current example is the Have You Been Paying Attention? article. The 13th episode went to air yesterday (Sunday 23 March 2014, Australian time) and yesterday this editor has already changed the number of episodes aired to 14 with the notation "as of 30 March 2014", a full week in advance. On Fridays he/she changes episode numbers for shows that don't go to air until the next Monday late afternoon (Million Dollar Minute, Millionaire Hot Seat). I have tried to communicate with this editor but they choose not to respond; I have also put an note in the episode number editing section saying "only increase number after the episode has gone to air". Again the editor chooses not to do that and continues editing in advance.
I personally feel that editing in advance is incorrect but maybe I'm getting 'carried away'. I would greatly appreciate some assistance. Cheers. Melbourne3163 (talk) 03:02, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
infobox television states that the num_episodes parameter is only for the episodes that have aired/been released and that any other number requires a WP:RS. - Purplewowies (talk) 04:08, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
any claim of episode numbers should be sourced. depending upon a Wikipedia editor to find and accurately account for all episodes and somehow assume that is a valid representation is beyond WP:SYN simple math of looking at content in one source. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:51, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On page about VAPIANO restaurant you have mistaken. There are no restaurants in Latvia as it written in article!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.134.39.59 (talk) 13:39, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Can't create subpages such as User:Dougweller/common.js.
Trying to create User:Dougweller/common.js I see the edit field flash up then disappear, leaving me with no way to install a script Dougweller (talk) 13:43, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
.js pages are treated specially and may conflict with some scripts. I have created the page for you. Are you able to edit it now? PrimeHunter (talk) 13:53, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but no. I see "→ Go to editing area" but clicking on it does nothing. I've never been able to get further than that. This is in Firefox and Chrome and IE. Dougweller (talk) 14:52, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What is your skin? Does [12] work? PrimeHunter (talk) 16:12, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you have enabled wikEd at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets then try disabling it on the icon in the upper right corner when you edit .js and .css pages. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:03, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much PrimeHunter - that let me add the script User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/massRollback.js but it's not working yet. I'll fiddle with it tomorrow. Thanks again. Dougweller (talk) 19:11, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
• BYPASS your cache and it should work if you added it correctly. Looking at your common.js page, I see that you copy & pasted the actual code of the script. What this means is that your copy of the script won't be maintained for you, and is rarely a good idea. I suggest that you replace all of the code on that page with importScript('User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/massRollback.js');//User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/massRollback.js so that way whenever Writ Keeper updates his copy, yours will also be automatically updated. Happy editing and good luck! — Technical 13 (tec) 19:26, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How do I recommend that an administrator be stripped of Admin status
I have been editing a long while (I think about eight years) and never wanted nor was offered Admin status. A relatively new admin is, in my opinion, causing trouble by thinking he is now Dictator of the World and can do what he wants without consensus or discussion. (I can give you the appropriate links but I imagine you are rather busy.) To where should I put this discussion? To strip an admin of his status because it is a privilege not a right, and in my opinion is abusing it. I thought about WP:ANI but that seems the wrong venue. Si Trew (talk) 14:05, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It would usually be a normal case of WP:BRD but since the other editor has admin status and is using it as a kind of golden crown, that is not what admin status is for. Especially when something comes up at, as it happens WP:RFD to which I am a regular contributor and come with views sometimes agreed with sometimes not but always with my homework done. Si Trew (talk) 14:10, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please carefully read WP:RFCC ensuring you have tried all the other avenues described before raising it per the appropriate guidelines there. CaptRik (talk) 14:17, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Or, not quite so tersely: You start by getting agreement that there's been serious misbehavior. Consider a "request for comment". (NB the "minimum requirements for making an RFC.) If it's agreed that serious behavior has taken place, he'll be told to shape up. If he ignores this and continues, he'll be in trouble. -- Hoary (talk) 14:21, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Um, a discussion about someone without notifying them? Not a good idea. Dougweller (talkcontribs) 14:55, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And this seems to be about Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2014 March 24#Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2014_March_22#Chimping out - please folks, look at that before commenting again. Dougweller (talk) 14:59, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the notification, Doug. Also, I have to chuckle about "relatively new admin". I had already been an admin for a year when Si Trew registered his user account. Anyway, that's by the by and I won't clutter the help desk with any more on this topic. — Scott talk 15:06, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Brian Flemming is a Hit Piece
Blatant propaganda...
There are some clear BLP and NPOV violations, eg "Flemming launched three unusual media campaigns to support his biased documentary" but this would belong at WP:BLPN. Dougweller (talk) 15:40, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The Church in Hockering, Norfolk is St. Michael's.
Sandbox linked to article after creation
Hi,
I used my Sandbox to create a page for the Cosmology Large Angular Scale Surveyor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmology_Large_Angular_Scale_Surveyor), and then I tried to wipe my sandbox clean and start a new article there. Unfortunately, that also wiped clean the main page listed above. How do I unlink the two so that I can use my sandbox for something else?
Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tom.essinger.hileman (talkcontribs) 20:43, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Tom.essinger.hileman. When the page was moved from your sandbox to its final destination, Wikipedia automatically left a redirection in your sandbox (it always does that when a page is moved). To get to it to edit it, you need to pick it, and it will show you the destination page; but just underneath the title it says " (Redirected from User:Tom.essinger.hileman/sandbox)", and you can pick that link to go back to the actual sandbox. You'll find if you edit it, it contains just the text "
#REDIRECT Cosmology Large Angular Scale Surveyor
R from move" and you can remove all that. --ColinFine (talk) 21:15, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No password reset email
I have not used my Wikipedia account 'Theron McCollough' sense 2011.
I put in my username and ask for password reset but email never comes. I have tried with both my username and my email address, searched user logs and can not find my profile. I want to maintain this as I have made entries and want to maintain my Wiki clout.
Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.29.100.59 (talk) 21:59, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The edits by User:Theron McCollough can be seen at Special:Contributions/Theron_McCollough, so it was 2012. If Help:Logging in#Login issues and problems or Help:Email confirmation#Known issues do not help then you have to create a new account. The old password will still work after a password reset (assuming the mailed password) is never used, so if you get new ideas what the pasword may have been then just try them.     (e/c) (It was actually used in 2012 [13]) Are you sure you are looking at the same e-mail that you assigned to the account? Are you sure that you connected your wikipedia account to an e-mail? have you checked your spam filter? 22:15, 24 March 2014 (UTC)-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 22:16, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering if i was alowed to sell books with alot of information from wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.238.120.93 (talk) 22:48, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How about numerous wikipedia citations making up much of a published compendium or book?
I wonder how to cite Wikipedia in this special case in publishing, where a compendium or book author (compiler or editor) uses numerous Wikipedia citations for providing bulk, factual text, effectively dominating the book, only still embedded within the compiler/'author's own narrative. Is it ok? Could it still be a one-author book? Or is it an anthology? Should Wikipedia authors be acknowledged, perhaps listed, and if so, how? Is it being done, with examples of ok and not-ok use for guidance? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sofloc (talkcontribs) 23:01, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
