9janimi Channel is a web/mobile-based Music and Movies streaming service[9] serving a hybrid of paid and free contents to users. The service was launched in 2010[10] by Nigerian startup theMedia 360 Company Ltd.[11] It's primary content is Afro-pop music.
The service is mainly music and movie streaming.[12][13] There are two subscription tiers: The Freemium (free) and Premium (paid) offerings. The service is available on Web and via mobile apps.[14]
The channel will pay royalties to artists.[15]. The service allows artists keep 75% of their songs proceeds through its Fair Trade Streaming agreement.[16]
9janimi[17][18] is a Yoruba phrase, which means "I’m a Nigerian".
History
9janimi Channel[19] was established in 2010 in Lagos, Nigeria by Soltesh Iyere[20]. The service received substantial funding in early 2013 by theMedia 360 Company Limited.[21] To further assist in the expansion of the streaming service in Africa, they've also partnered with Bashro Beats[22] in the United Kingdom to deliver services to Nigerians there. The Channel was formerly an online compendium of hip hop news, gossip and top-ten music charts.[23][24] With singer-songwriter's Halle Mordu[25][26][27] and Joejo[28] are its brand ambassadors.[29][10][30][31]
