Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements. As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. I just thought I'd let you know that Krimpet (talk · contribs) took it on herself to delete the brunettes userbox you were using. Okay, I have removed the deleted template; however, I cannot think of why it would be deleted. I find brunette's attractive, okay, so what? I do not only think of brunettes in a physical manner, nor do I have anything against non-brunettes. Redirects

Nothing prevents deleted articles from having redirects after they are deleted, and since they are duplicative, nothing is lost. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 06:23, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't see why redirecteable articles need be deleted as well. Keeping edit histories public is beneficial for RfAs as not all can see deleted edits and for those of us who do believe these articles are worthwhile, we can at least see the previous version. Plus, when better sources do turn up, it is far easier to bring an article up to snuff without having to start over. --Happy editing! Question

Question from this - how do you feel about my recommendation to restore the previous article, "Blood Angels", move Dante there, add the 12 sources that I found so far to expand coverage, emphasis critical response, dates of creation, etc.? I don't know much about the primary sources or topics, and I guess someone can help me with that. However, working on topics in general, I think I can put together something encyclopedic. Roi, I've gone ahead and graduated you from the adopt-a-user program. Your need for it has, in my opinion, long since passed, as you've acquired an admirable grasp of policy, guidelines, and procedure in the last twelve months and acquitted yourself quite well in a variety of forums on the site. Though we still may disagree about AFD, I don't think there's been anything left that I can coach you on in that regard for more than a year. Besides this, neither one of us is currently very active on the project, so I thought it'd be best to graduate you before I become really busy with grad school. Please withdraw the Commander Dante DRV

Hi. Since I think the community has made its feelings on this matter abundantly clear, I'd like to formally ask you to withdraw the DRV on the Commander Dante article. I do think that would be best for everyone involved, and for the encyclopedia for you to voluntarily withdraw this, rather than to cause everyone to waste time on a matter whose fate is, effectively, already decided.

I appreciate that the above request is made politely, but as I started the thread in good faith and if editors think it is waste of time then they do not have to comment there. Just because I start a discussion, no one is compelled to comment there. We have a big project and no one is required to post in any one DRV. No one seems opposed to having an article on the actual historical figure. If that is true, then I see no reason why not to undelete what I had written and allow me and others to continue improving that article about the historical figure. People there might make these lies about me attempting a red herring, but the truth is I really thought it might be a good compromise idea to try a disambiguation page and if that didn't work, then to just focus on the historical character, which I started to do. I don't think trying to be open mind, think outside of the box, and improve the content as such should be treated in the manner that it is. --Happy editing!
