The 2015–16 season is Galatasaray's 112nd in existence and 58th consecutive season in the Süper Lig. They will be aiming for an unprecedented 21st League title, after finishing the Süper Lig first place in previous season.

In Europe, Galatasaray will be competing in the Champions League for a 15th season. As well as this, they will also compete in a domestic cup, the Turkish Cup.

Season overview

  • On 31 May 2015, Galatasaray revealed the pre-season summer camp schedule. The camp schedule for the Galatasaray professional football team prior to the next football season begins on July 5 at the Windischgarsten, Austria.[1]
  • On 13 June 2015, it is announced that head coach Hamza Hamzaoğlu had extended his ongoing contract for 3 more years.[2]
  • On 17 June 2015, it is announced that Galatasaray began official negotiations regarding the transfer of Turkish professional football player Bilal Kısa from Akhisar Belediyespor.[3]
  • On 18 June 2015, it is announced that defender Sabri Sarıoğlu has extended his contract until 2016.[4]
  • On 25 June 2015, it is announced that Galatasaray sold Nordin Amrabat to Málaga. Málaga triggered the €3.5M buyout clause for him.[5]
  • On 26 June 2015, it is announced that Galatasaray will not participate in the Afyon Cup between 11 and 14 July. Instead, Gala will play with SV Ried at Austria on July 14.[6][7]
  • On 28 June 2015, the second pre-season camp schedule of Galatasaray is announced. The second camp schedule for the Galatasaray professional football team prior to the next football season begins on July 20 at the Velden, Austria.[8]
  • On 2 July 2015, it is announced that Galatasaray loaned Endoğan Adili to FC Wil.[9]
  • On 2 July 2015, it is announced that Galatasaray began official negotiations regarding the transfer of German professional football player Lukas Podolski from Arsenal.[10] The original bid of Galatasaray was reported as €2.5 million, also Podolski would receive a salary of €3 million per year.[11]
  • On 7 July 2015, it is announced that Galatasaray sold Goran Pandev to Genoa.[12]
  • On 8 July 2015, it is announced that Galatasaray began official negotiations regarding the transfer of Turkish professional football player Jem Paul Karacan from Reading F.C.. Cem Karacan would receive a salary of €0.6 million per year.[13]
  • On 11 July 2015, it is announced that Galatasaray began official negotiations regarding the transfer of French professional football player Lionel Carole from Troyes.[14] The original bid of Galatasaray was reported as €1.5 million, also Carole would receive a salary of €0.7 million per year.[15]

  • On 31 August 2015, it is announced that Galatasaray began official negotiations regarding the transfer of German professional football player Kevin Großkreutz from Borussia Dortmund. The original bid of Galatasaray was reported as €1.5 million, also Großkreutz would receive a salary of €1.85 million for the first year.[38]
  • On 2 September 2015, it is announced by FIFA that Galatasaray had failed to submit the relevant documentation for Kevin Großkreutz before the transfer window closed. FIFA dismissed the case, because the signed documentations were not submitted on time by Galatasaray. FIFA have refused to sanction Kevin Grosskreutz's proposed move from Borussia Dortmund to Galatasaray, therefore the player will not be available for all the matches until January 1, 2016.[39]
  • On 3 October 2015, it is announced that the contract of Wesley Sneijder has been extended by Galatasaray until 2018.[40]
  • On 9 October 2015, it is announced that the contract of Hakan Balta has been extended by Galatasaray until 2018.

  • On 1 March 2016, Galatasaray has announced the dismissal of head coach Mustafa Denizli.[49]
  • On 2 March 2016, Galatasaray banned from UEFA competitions for one season by UEFA. Galatasaray will not be able to qualify for either the UEFA Champions League or the Europa League this season due to their failure to comply with financial regulations. The ban will come into force the first time that the Istanbul club qualify for either the Champions League or the Europa League within the next two seasons, though the sanction will be waived if Galatasaray fail to qualify for continental competition in that timeframe.[50]
  • On 16 March 2016, Galatasaray has announced the interim manager will be the current head of youth development, Jan Olde Riekerink.[51]
