Mehdipatnam is a major locality in South western part of Hyderabad, India. Named after Mehdi Nawaz Jung, a politician, bureaucrat and eminent personality of Hyderabad State, [1] it provides connectivity to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport through the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway from major suburbs like Banjara Hills, Ameerpet, Begumpet, Kukatpally, Nampally, and Musheerabad. It derives its name from Nawab Mehdi Nawaz Jung who lived and owned the area during the Nizam's rule.It is 12 km from the IT corridor of Gachibowli and Madhapur.

Commercial Area

Mehdipatnam has seen enormous development in the last two decades. It is the center of shopping for many suburbs. The area is always filled with crowd.

There is a vegetable market, Rythu bazaar here, which makes a good spot for buying fresh vegetables.

Gold market

At the heart of the area is the okaz complex located which houses numerous jewellery stores like Mujtaba jewellers,[2] Sri Krishna jewellers and Danish jewellers are among the favorites of the local crowd.[tone][citation needed]

Street Vendors

On the busy roads of Mehdipatnam, we can find numerous street vendors selling toys, snacks, school and college textbooks, and garments. The recent trend in toys are air-borne toys, inverted cone-shaped balloons. The business on streets is booming as much as in shops.

Food

There are several restaurants, like Prince hotel restaurant, City Diamond hotel, Paradise hotel, Al baik Shawarma centre, Sarvi Bakers and dine-ins like Anupama, serving Hyderabadi food. Food chain stores like Subway, McDonald's, Dominos, KFC, Goli Vada Pav and Pizza Hut have been set up here recently. Swathi Tiffin Center being one of the oldest, is favorite among the locals. Many fast-food and tiffin centers, tea stalls, ice cream parlors offers nothing less than a delight. This suburb is at its best during the holy month of Ramzan, when the local hotels dish out haleem.

Shopping Malls

There are many shopping malls on the main road like Safa Arcade Commercial Complex, SGM Mall, Chandana Bros, R.S Bros, Chennai Shopping Mall, Max, Malabaar jewellers, and P Satyanarayana and Sons are a couple of jewellery shops that attract many locals.

Groceries

There are a number of small-sized shops that can serve one's grocery needs. In addition to these, a bunch of outlets of big super market chains came up in this area. Ratnadeep, More, Heritage Fresh and Reliance include the most promising ones.

Entertainment

Mehdipatnam has a lot of movie theaters and multiplexes which entertain the local crowd on a daily basis. Amba theater, Eswar theater, Galaxy theater and Asian Multiplex include the most prominent ones.

Others

Brands like Jawed Habib's, Naturals, Neeru's have made their place in the market recently. Anything from Pharmacies like Apolllo to sweet and saltine hubs like Delhiwala, G. Pulla Reddy Sweets are available. Mehdipatnam even has function halls like Mahboob Mansion function hall, MP garden function hall that are rented out for marriages.

Hospitals & Clinics

Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital is located here. It is a government hospital serving patients free of cost. Jayabhushan Hospital is the oldest multi-specialty hospital here. Other significant hospitals include Anusha hospital, Olive Hospital, Vasan Eye Care,Mina Multi Speciality Hospital, Premier Hospital, and MM Hospital. Many medical clinics and newly opened dr Nayak dialysis centre, Sameer hospital,[3] can be found in this locality.

Transport

Mehdipatnam has a TSRTC bus depot, making it a hub of many buses bound to all parts of the city. It acts as a connector of various regions across the city like Chevella, Moinabad, Uppal, Secundrabad, Lingampally, Koti, Gachibowli, Madhapur, Aramghar and others.

The closest MMTS Train stations are at Nampally and Lakdikapool.

Education

There are many schools and colleges here catering to students of all budgets.

The St. Ann's College for Women is located here and along with the G. Pullareddy Educational Institutions, Prof. K. Nagi Reddy Educational & Cultural Society as well as G. Pullareddy Highshcool, Degree College, PG College and the OU G. Pullareddy College of Pharmacy, Lal Bahadur degree college

Religious Places

Masjid-e-Azizia

Masjid-e-Azizia, the main Islamic Center of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Students Islamic Organisation of India is the largest mosque in Mehdipatnam. It consists of four floors with Wuzu Khana (Place of Ablution) on every floor. It witnesses a crowd of more than 7000 during Ramadan. Worshipers come from near and far to worship here. Worshipers consist not only of Indians but also Arabs, Africans & Turks. The Friday sermons are delivered both in Urdu and Arabic, which are chiefly focused on current/contemporary issues.

Khaja Gulshan Masjid

It is a centre of Ahl-e-sunnat ul Jamaat. It is one of the oldest mosques[citation needed] it has a dome and minaret. The dome is lit during the holy month of Ramadan making it the centre of attraction.

Masjid-e-Gumbad

Located in the Ayodhya Nagar colony. This mosque is currently under construction. Construction of the mosque started in early 2006. The land was subject to legal hassles before the construction took place. People used to pray on the barren land without any roof or covering 5 times a day battling the extreme heat of summers, rains and the winter. The area consists of a dome-shaped mausoleum dating back many years. The ongoing plan includes the construction of 4 tall minarets and a large dome. The construction is under progress. This huge mosque has the capacity to accommodate as many as 3000 people.

Qutub Shai Masjid

Located in Murad Nagar, Arab lane. This masjid was famous by the name of CHOTI MASJID.

Masjid E Banu Wa Faiyaz

This masjid (Mosque) is located in the vicinity of St Ann's College at Santosh Nagar. It has a good capacity for people.
