Development regions of Nepal

Nepal is divided into 5 Development Regions (विकास क्षेत्र), 14 Administrative Zones (अञ्चल) and 75 Districts (जिल्ला). The 14 administrative zones are grouped into five development regions. Each district is headed by a Chief District Officer (CDO) responsible for maintaining law and order and coordinating the work of field agencies of the various government ministries.
The five development regions of Nepal are (from east to west):
- Eastern Development Region (पुर्वाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र): Mechi, Kosi, Sagarmatha
- Central Development Region (मध्यमाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र): Janakpur, Bagmati, Narayani
- Western Development Region (पश्चिमाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र): Gandaki, Lumbini, Dhawalagiri
- Mid-Western Development Region (मध्य पश्चिमाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र): Rapti, Karnali, Bheri
- Far-Western Development Region (सुदुर पश्चिमाञ्चल विकास क्षेत्र): Seti, Mahakali
