The full structure of the British Army under Army 2020 is:[1][2]

Under Army 2020 the army will be divided into:

  • Reaction forces comprising a modified 16 Air Assault Brigade and an armoured division (3rd (UK) Division) of three armoured infantry brigades. These will be the 1st, 12th and 20th Armoured Infantry Brigades.[3][4]
  • Adaptive forces comprising a division (1st (UK) Division) of seven infantry brigades, three of which (the 4th, 7th, and 51st) will be deployable.[5][6][7]
  • Force Troops Command comprising nine brigades.

It should be clearly noted that elements within the nine regionally-aligned brigades report to two separate command chains. Within each regionally-aligned brigade, such as 7th Infantry Brigade and Headquarters East, there is a Regional Point of Command (RPOC) that is responsible, not to 1st UK Division or Force Troops Command, but to Headquarters Regional Command at Andover.[8] These RPOCs handle routine links with the civilian community, ranges etc, and the 'defence contribution to homeland resilience' - homeland defence.
