Republican Stadium named after Vazgen Sargsyan (Armenian: Վազգեն Սարգսյանի անվան Հանրապետական մարզադաշտ) also known as Republican Stadium (Armenian: Հանրապետական մարզադաշտ) is an all-seater multi-use stadium in Yerevan, Armenia. The stadium was built in 1953 and finished within a year. Some developments were implemented in 1963. It is mainly used for association football and is the home ground of the Armenia national football team.

History

At the time of its inauguration the stadium was named "Dinamo". Later, the name of the venue was changed into the "Republican Stadium". In 1999, after the assassination of the former prime minister of Armenia Vazgen Sargsyan, the official name of the stadium became to be known as the "Republican Stadium named after Vazgen Sargsyan". It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of the Armenian national team as well as the local football clubs FC Pyunik and Ulisses FC. The stadium can serve 14,968 spectators.

The first renovation of the stadium was in 1995 but due to the lack of financial sources, the process was delayed until 1999 when more than US dollars 3 million were spent on the development of the infrastructure of the venue. By the end of 2000, the stadium was completely renovated. In 2008, the stadium went under a large-scale development in order to modernize the playing surface and to create a high level VIP section and other facilities which could meet the UEFA standards.
