I was considering creating articles on the captures of Asosa and Gambela, both conflicts preceding the siege. At the moment, it seems that the only sources that talk at length abouth these events are the Belgian Information Center publication and the official history of the KAF. -Indy beetle (talk) 20:07, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the only reason it appeared vague was due to my admitted worry that lengthening and providing detail would warrant further conviction toward removing it. The article I got the information from mentioned it as the abandonment of his diffidence in the Senate that he had displayed for the first two months he was there up until that point. - Informant16 March 5, 2017

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Louis Bobozo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Thanks for noticing ![edit]

Thanks for noticing the new article TrumpiLeaks ! What do you think of the article ? Sagecandor (talk) 01:15, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Sagecandor: The article looks to be in pretty good shape, which is impressive, considering the website was launched only earlier today. Wikipedia normally lags behind in keeping up to date on recent news events. I guess you are ahead of the curve! But I do have two observations:
  1. You bring up some quotes from news agencies in the lead to encapsulate the reaction to the website. When they are placed in the article they have more context, explaining who wrote them. I think the standard for Wikipedia is not to write, for example, "Salon wrote of the website" unless the article in question was produced on behalf of Salon as an agency/company, like a statement from the board of editors. Instead, it should say "An editorial on Salon expressed that..." or similar.
  2. The "Inspiration and purpose" section comes before the "Organization" section. This does make sense, as you are wielding it almost like a "Background" but it isn't chronological and could be confusing. For example, it currently reads, "At the time of the website's founding...." Keep in mind the lead is suppose to be a summary of an article, not its formal introduction. So this would raise the question, "What website?" Put simply, the background information should be presented subsequently and chronologically, not retrospectively, unless mentioned after the introduction of the main subject at hand and its history.
Hope this helps! -Indy beetle (talk) 01:47, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I took your advice and made some more tweaks. Sagecandor (talk) 01:54, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for something you might know 'where'[edit]

While I could indulge in abuse in your direction :-) , it looks like you might know where there is an article on a particular subject.

The article Prosopagnosia mentions 'gait' as one possible recognition method for people so afflicted. Since I am and am exquisitely aware of "gait recognition" as a mainstay, I have been puzzled at not being able to find an article on what was termed "dynamic recognition" or "gait analysis" by the FBI (?) / NSA (?). One or both of those agencies got very excited at the idea of recognizing people by simply how they walk and move. Yet there are those of us who always knew about and rely on this technique.

Anyway, I'd wanted to link the word 'gait' in Prosopagnosia to an article on such recognition, and I can't find one. Do you know of one, or perhaps better keywords to search on? Unfortunately, until it moves, I won't recognize it... Shenme (talk) 06:30, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What to do with unreliable sources[edit]

You removed citations to unreliable sources from Seagoing cowboys. I realize this is an unreliable source, but I thought tagging it with {{better source}} was better than removing it completely. I figured keeping the citation helps readers know where this Wikipedia content is coming from and judge the source for themselves, and points researchers to what sources are available, even if they aren't very good. Is there a Wikipedia guideline on this, or what is your rationale for removing them? Sondra.kinsey (talk) 01:47, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Sondra.kinsey: Hmm, perhaps the better source tag will do. I've done some research about the blog's owner, Peggy Reiff Miller. She's written a single published book (Brethren Press) about one cowboy's travels, The Seagoing Cowboy, as well as at least one article on the subject in the The Mennonite, a newspaper. Still, I'm not sure whether this qualifies her enough as an expert for the blog to be counted as reliable (the publishers of her content are Christian entities with professional staff, but they are not academic publishers) So I suppose the sourcing can be kept but with a tag. -02:13, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

Indy: excellent work on this article. I hope you will carry over and edit the main JFK and RFK articles and consider taking on the task on bringing them up to GA status. I have worked on the Civil Rights Address article, as you know and worked on both the JFK and RFK articles over the years. I had hoped to have the time to bring them up to GA, but have not been able to make the time to do so. At any rate, carry on. Kierzek (talk) 13:52, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kierzek: Much appreciated! Sorry for the late reply, I was tangling with the weeds in the garden. In regards to the Civil Rights Address article, I was planning on finishing the Aftermath section first, then tackling the actual summary of the speech (the hardest part to complete) before nominating it for FA status (I find that the GA process, even if it is less strenuous, takes too long). Once this is done I can move on to the JFK and RFK articles, which, like you, I would like to see become GA status or better. I've done some minor work to the latter but I mostly stay away from such large articles because I find them to be polluted by Good Faith edits, non-linear structure, and inconsistent citation styles. This is why I've stuck to articles on the periphery (On the Mindless Menace of Violence, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, Joseph S. Clark's and Robert F. Kennedy's tour of the Mississippi Delta, etc.). I'm also currently working on a rather tedious draft related to another topic, which has kept me busy. Once I'm done with this and the speech article I can certainly devote more time to the JFK and RFK pages. In the meantime, if there's any specific areas I can help with, let me know. I'm in possession of the books Thirteen Days, Robert Kennedy: A Memoir, and RFK: Collected Speeches which can certainly be of use. -Indy beetle (talk) 21:08, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[4] - many thanks for this!! You may find writing the Lumumba Government article tedious, but it's important - thanks for all your hard work!! Buckshot06 (talk) 10:22, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For the FP mutiny, I see you're using Kanza 1994. Vanderstraeten 1983 may also be useful. Buckshot06 (talk) 08:22, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Buckshot06: Ah, thank you for the suggestion. I was entertaining the creation of a devoted article on the mutiny at some point (Hoskyns 1965 lays out an excellent timeline for it)... However, it would seem that Vanderstraeten has more on the military particulars (like the Belgian intervention) than the political situation. For example, he cites President of the Senate Joseph Ileo as a source when discussing the soldier's demands at the extraordinary council of ministers meeting of 8 July. It's certainly possible that Ileo's assessment was accurate, but he wasn't present at the meeting (unlike the President of the Chamber), a fact that left him quite bitter ([5]). Thomas Kanza, on the other hand, was a minister in the first government and took part in the 8 July deliberations. He lays out the discussions they had quite well in his book, including the debate over who should become army chief of staff. -Indy beetle (talk) 16:40, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A mutiny article would be great - to match the article on the East African mutinies. Thankyou for your steer regarding Kanza; I should probably dig out a copy. Did you get yours in hard or soft copy? Kind regards and many thanks Buckshot06 (talk) 04:57, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Buckshot06: I have Kanza in hard copy. I find it easier to manage, plus I'm not sure if electronic copies are available. There aren't many hard copies to begin with—some people will charge over $200 for a hardback—but I was able to find a paperback that suited my purposes for ~$30. Another thing that's nice about Kanza is that he takes a rather uniquely honest approach to the Congo Crisis. He states at the beginning of his book that he tries not to hold any grudges. It also helps that he always saw himself as more of a diplomat than a politician and was never ambitious for power—unlike other key figures—and was friends with people from different factions during the conflict. Now, what are these East African mutinies you speak of? They sound intriguing. -Indy beetle (talk) 05:55, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The image https://abyssiniancrisis.wordpress.com/2015/11/17/ethiopian-army/ was used by sports and general press agency, located in Fleet Street, London but many of their archives were destroyed in a 1941 bombing raid
So it is without copyright that have passed more than 80 years--Tahurus (talk) 00:30, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Tahurus: Well, first of all, the photo is not more than 80 years old. Even if it was, it wouldn't matter, because the photo is still most likely copyrighted. Note that here it is noted that Alpha Photo Press Ltd owns the rights of the Sport and General Archive. So just because the S&G was mostly destroyed in 1941 doesn't mean the copyright disappeared. -Indy beetle (talk) 01:05, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you go repair the article. Thanks! --MelanieN (talk) 18:43, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Civil rights address[edit]

You've been continuing to do good detail work on the article. With that said, I was sorry to see you took out my RS cited sentences from Dallek's well regarded work. The point is, there needs to be something said about the speech itself. In other words, there's background on the speech, section on preparing the speech, delivering the speech, aftermath, but nothing on what he actually says. That's what is needed. And that's what that conveyed. If I have time I'll work on it some. Give it some thought. Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 02:45, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I replied on my talk page to your post. Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 13:26, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Jacob Wayne Fredericks with Robert F. Kennedy.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Jacob Wayne Fredericks with Robert F. Kennedy.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Someone put a drive-by tag on the JFK article stating the Southeast Asia (mainly Vietnam) section was overly long and detailed. I helped re-write and edit that section several years ago. I was thinking of moving it in-bulk over to the Foreign policy article as is and keeping a slightly shorter version in the JFK main article. Also what is under the Foreign Policy article for Vietnam at this time is very inadequate. What do you think? Kierzek (talk) 12:35, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kierzek: Sorry for the delay. Yes, I'd agree with transferring the section in bulk over to the Foreign Policy article, and removing some of those "Main articles" tags. -Indy beetle (talk) 02:10, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will wait one more day to see if anyone comments on the JFK talk page and if not, will see that it is done. Kierzek (talk) 21:06, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Mass surveillance[edit]

I have merged most of Wikipedia:WikiProject Espionage and WikiProject Mass surveillance into one interconnected joint project. The new joint talk page is here. There is still a lot of work to get all the different parts of it working properly, but most of it should work. The main page is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Espionage if you want to have a look. dab on André Lubaya[edit]

I saw you reverted my edit on André Lubaya to Kasai. You put back a link to a disambiguation page - is there anything on that list which would be a better target for the link or do we need an article on Kasai during the relevant period?— Rod talk 15:42, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Rodw: I've redirected Kasai to Kasai region. -Indy beetle (talk) 15:54, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewing[edit]

Hello, Indy beetle.

I've seen you editing recently and you seem knowledgeable about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 07:37, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits at Alfred Hitchcock's film Psycho[edit]

Thanks for your edits on Hitchcock's film Psycho. The article was once an FA article back in 2004 but has been subject to periodic neglect. For the past few months, I have made some edits to make it more readable for editors and readers at Wikipedia. Since the article looks a bit better now, it occurred to me that nominating it at FAC might be worthwhile since the article was an FA back in 2004. The instructions at FAC, however, recommend that editors without a peer review under their belt like me should try doing a joint nomination with someone who has done a featured article before. If you might have any interest in this article, then with your 2-3 FA articles maybe you could team with me for a joint FA nomination for Alfred Hitchcock? ManKnowsInfinity (talk) 15:30, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @ManKnowsInfinity:. I'd be happy to help you, though I will admit my knowledge of Hitchcock is limited to a basic understanding of his styles gleaned from a film course I took and viewings of Rear Window and Psycho. Could you clarify, which article you wish to nominate, Psycho or Alfred Hitchcock? -Indy beetle (talk) 21:57, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting back to me on this. The Alfred Hitchcock article appears pretty much ready to go for FA review at this time. Another editor overnight added some images which you might double check to see if you think they are properly done and useful for this biography. Otherwise, your seeing Rear Window and Psycho are two of his finest films and would be well suited for doing a joint FA nomination for the Hitchcock biography article. Since you have done some other FA biography articles, possibly you could let me know if the Hitchcock article is ready for you to join in and make a joint nomination for FA at this time. ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Indy beetle. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for December 14[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Colonial war, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Zulu (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Please review WP:BRD. When your Bold edit has been Reverted by another editor, the next step, if you continue to think the edit is necessary, is to Discuss it on the article talk page, not to re-revert it, which is the first step to edit warring. During the discussion, the article remains in the status quo ante. Thanks, Beyond My Ken (talk) 07:10, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
