Police patch collecting

I am the original poster of the article. I am new to this forum and admit my first attempt at posting here may have needed some advise or correction. I am NOT a professional wiki.

The above being said, I would rather the whole article be removed than have it altered and vandalized to the extent you folks have done which gives it significantly different meaning. You could have added your information as new information without ruining.

From my perspective as a retired California police officer, four decade patch collector, and non-profit publisher of the most comprehensive database on California law enforcement emblems in the world...you folks have butchered the facts and the thrust of the article.

The focus of police patch collecting posting was to accurately inform about preserving law enforcement emblem history in the US from coast to coast. It no longer does that.

From what I can see he's just doing normal editing. The problem of before was that what he added needed to be pruned by other users so that it fitted wikipedia specifications, and unfortunatly he took that as an attack and it escalated from there. I've dropped him a note explaining why edits will be made to his contributions (wikify etc.) and told him that if he doesnt want me particularly to do that he can let me know. Stay cool Chris! I see what you mean. Having left a warning on Patchbooks talk page about removing the tags, i suspect (or at least hope) that he will stop without further action being taken. Good catch, though I hope you don't mind me saying that perhaps voicing what you've noticed on the article talk page may have provoked Patchbook into unnecessary anger, might have been better on my talk page or the wikiproject talk page? Nevertheless your suspicions might well be correct, as I have said hopefully the issue will die down now.

It's the only conflict that iv come across so far in the project, which is a good sign! Hopefully this minor one will dissipate :)

No worries, its turned out fine as far as I know (he says, having not checked the article yet) lets just try not to atagonise him further and just get on with the article, hopefully he can be included in editing it if he learns how to do so properly. When I was a policeman I had an assignment dealing with some child molesters. I got disciplined because in the course of my official duties I made a verbal commentary that it was "Nothing that a thirty cent bullet wouldn't cure".

Now decades later I am retired, and that same commentary comes to mind.

3RR

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. I see that you reported Okkar for 3RR violations. You need to clean up your report to get it considered. In the diffs, you have to actually put a link for the diff, not just like the times in which they occurred. You have to show the link for that revert at that time. In a bizzare turn of events, Okkar's report of you only gave three reversions (you need to do four to break the rule) but in your own report you actually reported four diffs in which you revert others, thus proving you broke the rule!!

This suggests a little confusion on your behalf. Looking at the edit summaries on the Military of Myanmar page, there are a few policies you need reminding of. I've decided not to block you for the 3RR violation - but future violations would almost definately result in a block; I'm taking the view that a block now would be purely puniative and a clear explanation of some of our policies would work best this time.

• Wikipedia:Three-revert rule - the policy states that "Edit warring is not productive. Editors who revert a page in whole or in part more than three times in 24 hours, except in certain special circumstances, are likely to be blocked from editing." You re-added the picture more than three times - a clear and simple violation of the policy. Bear in mind that a revert means undoing in whole or in part the edit of other editors. Please also note that in reporting a possible violation, you need to show the diffs of the other editor's actions. The dispute resolution section shows the options that are available to you other than edit warring

• WP:OWN and WP:BITE - I refer to your edit summaries "you're_ the vandal, as an anonymous user" and "info was on article long before you got here" - I know that was in repsonse to a personal attack. However, the first quote suggests that you are 'biting the newcomers' - IP addresses' contributions are just as viable as rejistered users. The second one suggests a bit of WP:OWN - anyone is free to come in and edit pages and remove the contributions of editors who have been on an aritlce for years, as long as they can justify it.

You seem a decent editor, but just don't let the whole thing stress you so much. For what its worth, I don't see a problem with the picrue, but neither does it seem too important. --Robdurbar 11:58, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia includes in their definition of Sockpuppet "to generate an appearance of consensus, or to vote more than once", and at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sock_puppetry#Forbidden_uses_of_sock_puppets says

"Voting and other shows of support" "Wikipedia uses a "one person, one vote" principle for all votes and similar discussions where individual preferences are counted in any fashion. Accordingly, sock puppets may not be used to give the impression of more support for a viewpoint. So it appears that I wasnt the only who is being bullied by you. patchbook was right, you are trying to drive out anyone who dont agree with you. You abused your long term affiliation with wikipedia and exploit your know-how of Wikipedia's complaints functions and procedures to get the upper hand on anyone who stand up to you. You either try to slience them with various form of complaints based upon made up accusations and trickery, or you simply drive them out with the help of your friends. God knows how many newbies you succeeded in driving away from Wikipedia. I really don't know when--I heard it can take several weeks. It's amazing; when I removed the Myanmar cat from the Military of Myanmar article (as I usually do with Myanmar articles when there are more specific cats available), Okkar accused me of working to promote the agenda of the Burmese government-in-exile and censoring his work. He even had the nerve to warn me, even though I regularly re-categorize, so articles can be found in the more specific cats. Hopefully the Censorship in Myanmar article I recently wrote won't be misconstrued for "pro-democratic propaganda" again. Tennessee law enforcement agencies

A couple of months ago you proposed merging Tennessee Highway Patrol‎ and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. You did not provide any discussion. I seem to be the only user who discussed your proposal; I oppose it because the agencies are not related (it would be sort of like merging the federal FBI and the Secret Service). REQUEST FOR OPINIONS - Isn't BSA Exploring part of scouting?

In the article about collecting scout memorabila[2], a section includes links to related subjects. Law Enforcement Exploring[3] is an existing related Wikipedia article. Kintetsubuffalo believes it is not related to the subject of collecting scout emblems, and has repeatedly removed it. Since Law Enforcement Exploring is a formal part of BSA, and hundreds of unique emblems are used by the BSA LE explorer program, I believe it to be properly related and should be included for reference. I created the Bubusara Beyshenalieva page, in which I correctly spelled the word, "Kyrgyz", a total of five times. Don't you think that perhaps the one incorrectly spelled instance might have been the result of a simple typo rather than, as you imply, a case of an ignorant person, "throw[ing] some consonants together"? re: article tagging and WP:PAW

Hi Chris, thanks for you interest in the project. We're always needing new hands!

As to the tagging, I think you should only tag articles for WP:PAW if you're willing to be a member of the project, which would mean (1) adding your name to the member list, unless you'd rather not (2) familiarizing yourself in general with the scope and thrust of the project and (3) devoting at least a small amount of your Wikitime to working on the goals of the project.

I, personally, only like to have a few articles tagged, ones on which active work is being done or will be done, although others have disagreed with this.

Keep in mind that, although it's true that we are mainly engaged in reverting child-sex-normalization propaganda, neither are we "against" pedophilia (a disease) or pedophiles, most of whom are law-abiding and very unhappy persons, whereas most child sex offenders are not truly pedophiles but just rapists or abusers who like easy targets.

Anyway, here is what I wrote at the project talk page

Editor Chris has tagged Lolicon, Category:Murdered children, Oakland County Child Killer, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Child Pornography: Model Legislation & Global Review. I'm in discussion now with Chris over whether he wants to participate actively in the project. If he's not, I think these should all be untagged, unless someone else is working on them. If if is, I still have serious qualms about tagging Category:Murdered children and Oakland County Child Killer, and perhaps National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, although the other articles are OK. Reason being, I'm unsure what connection there is between this project and (say) the Oakland County Child Killer (whoever he is), who may or may not be a pedophile but the operative work here is killer, perhaps this article would be better served by WikiProject Murderers or whatever. Right?

Sorry for the long delay in responding to you. I didn't notice the messages you left me. For adding the red dot on the maps, you have to obtain the geo coordinates of the place and put them into Template:Infobox City Myanmar's coordinates section. I think the coordinates may still be a little off, but a user who's more experienced than me should finish the job I started here. I'll also begin writing conventions for Burmese-language articles soon, but I think all the ideas should be out in the open, so we all collaborate. I think I'm going to first check out how other conventions are written. It's well beyond WP:AGF, and if he's still trying to impress with his "clever" use of plausible deniability two months ago, it's a sign of needing to be fed. I live and work in Tokyo. As long as you don't mind getting low-paying job at first, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job. After getting some idea of what you need to do/know to get a good pay, look for another job. If possible, avoid getting job as an English teacher at one of many English-language schools. Many Japanese companies doesn't like to hire someone who worked there, as there is no assurance that he or she is actually competent at other job or proficient in English. Briefly, I was in charge of hiring native-English speaker and I wasn't impressed with most of applicants whose previous job was a "teacher". It's better to have worked at a company before coming to Japan and have one or two professional skills than coming here straight out of school and trying to find work. Unfortunately, no. It's been a long while since I tried to create a template but I will attempt one sometime today. Were you thinking of the new articles I created yesterday? If so, I've thought of that as well, but I've been trying to decide if I should use images or unicode fonts to show the Khmer spellings. I can never get Khmer unicode to render properly in IE. I have tried to organize the Category:WikiProject Tibet for starters but Please note though that Portal:Tibetan Buddhism exists and all the categories for WikiProject Tibetan Buddhism most of which are empty. SHould this be moved to WikiProject Tibet? Plus I don't think User:Sylvain1972 is aware of events. When I suggested it to him/her they didn't seem happy with the idea. I don't know how many articles are related to Tibetan Buddhism but it can't be a huge number although I do see the idea of the project from a religious viewpoint. But I am quick to say that a major part of Wikiproject Tibet is religiously entwined anyway. What shall we do? I have layed out the Categories of Tibet on the main page but the only thing is as the banner is still WikiProject CHina there can be a lot of controversy. E.g I have just tagged the Dalai Lama page this should be regarded as a high important Tibet article nobody can really argue he is not a part of Tibet but labelled with a China tag can look really disrespectful to the great buddha. Its just there is a lot of tension historically and if you begin labelling traditional religious figures which are regarded as strongly Tibetan with a China tag tibet=yes tag who were respondible without argument for destroying many suvh monasteries and people it might look a little wrong. Wouldn't it be like labelling a synagogue in Germany with a Swastika? Tibetan articles though need to be tagged by th Tibetan project? I think I have solved it by keeping the Tibetan Buddhims template -CHanging it to Wikiproject Tibet:Tibetan Buddhism and adding the Category: WikiProject Tibet articles -this way it avoids the China tag but is still in the Category:Tibetan articles. I have everything sorted now I have just tagged all of the cities and villages as part of the project. The Tibet banner is part of the China banner china|tibet=yes but I am keeping the Tibetan Buddhism banner for articles which are not related to CHina but still go in the Tibet category. It is important to have Tibetan Buddhism working as a sub project within WikiProject Tibet because e.g article like the Dalai Lama are not related to CHina but to Tibetan Buddhism. Chris, I understand why you want to keep the latter two, but I do not think the use on Scouts Australia is fair use. They would be OK on an article on Scouting on Christmas Island or Scouting on Norfolk Island, but while I have studied them in depth I have no reliable sources. For example, on Norfolk Island the Group has lapsed because of no leaders and it comes under the International Commissioner for New South Wales, but that is not enough for an article and the source is only an e-mail from the NSW Commissioner. YMCA Camp Fitch

I can't find any record of a second Camp Fitch in Ohio. Most people believe that YMCA Camp Fitch of Springfield PA is in Ohio due to the fact that it is operated by the YMCA of Youngstown, OH and is only 6 miles over the PA border next to Erie County. Hi. I notice you tagged the stevia article as part of the chemistry wiki-project. This article isn't about chemistry, it's about a species of plant, its history, political controversies, commercial uses, health effects, regional names, etc.

Deletion etiquette

Hi Chris,

When you nominate an article for deletion, would you please note that fact in the edit summary for the article? When you don't do that it amounts to a sneak attack on the article supporters, and any deletion can be contested, creating more work for everybody. I think this is mentioned in some article somewhere on "How to delete an article". I'd suggest even going back to the articles you've nominated, hitting the edit button and typing in something like "deletion nomination" so it will show up on the watch page of anyone who cares about the article. I like the project actually

I wasn't mocking the goals of the project, just semi-humorously pointing out the enormity of the task the project really has. It's something that's often occurred to me, when people sometimes suggest that we couldn't possibly have need for more than a million articles, that we still are missing the vast majority of articles on international relations. I do actually think we should have an Andorra-Tuvalu relations article eventually (obviously it would be quite a low priority), and have toyed with the idea of trying to write an article like that myself, to see if it would be possible. Stoopid Monkey Logos

As you are probably aware, the Stoop!d Monkey page was the subject of an AfD and the result was, of course, "Keep". Currently, the logos are a point of contention with myself saying that they were part of the "Keep", while User:Calton saying they were to be dropped and the article was to remain.

I asked the admin who closed the AfD his opinion and he replied, "I just said the article was to be kept, I don't know about the logos". There wasn't a decision given on the logos and in the AfD only 3 users said the logos should go, only 1 said keep the article, lose the logos.

I am not sure how to handle this, but since the admin who closed the AfD made no decision and the AfD wasn't about the logos in the first place (and the majority said to keep the logos if you want to be picky about it, as far as I can tell).

This wasn't an issue from April 16th (immediately after the AfD) to May 3rd when User:Calton realized that I was blocked for 48hours (not related to this) and I couldn't revert his changes. User:Calton had no interest and made no changes on the page itself or the talk page during that time. So, to me, his initial revert on May 3rd was done because of my block.

I have asked two admins (in case one is offline) to revert his changes and put a block on the page until this can be worked out. I am also asking you, since you contributed to the AfD, what your opinion is on just the logos themselves. I appericate you input one way or the other. Thanks...SVRTVDude ^(VT)

The badge is property of the former government of Burma. This does not mean it's free use. Simply because you own a badge of it and are capable of making an image of it does not transfer rights from them to you. getting to Japan

The most likely option is the big 4 Eikaiwa, which are practically everywhere that you might want to be. Another option is the JET Programme, though you have little control over where they place you unless you qualify as a CIR. Finding a job outside of English teaching is tough. You may want to see if the Scout Association of Japan has some sort of international exchange program which you can hitch a ride on and see what your options are when you get there. Some professional skills might be desired as well, though one would normally need a professional level of Japanese to be considered for them.

I did create it, but I just copied it from {{Arabic}} so I don't really know how to do these things...I'll see if I can figure it out. Btw, it's a great idea on how to separate the different languages. We should do a similar way with Arabic (Persian, Urdu, etc.), Chinese (Chinese, Japanese kanji, Korean hanja), and others. Hi, what are you missing in the article Junák that you added translation templates? Article cs:Seznam známých českých skautů is quite similar to List of notable Scouts#Czech Republic, except some actors. And article cs:Český skauting doesn't seem to contain more information about history than Junák in english. (Maybe there is some interesting notice in the czech article, that 20 years of communism "froze" czech scouts in the "old days" which has some advantages and disadvantages.) Mongolian script

Hi, you added {{Mongolian}} to Talk:Mongolyn Skautyn Kholboo, but I don't quite understand why. For an organisation only founded in 1992, the "original spelling" is invariably cyrillic, as given in the article. They may use the old script for decorative purposes, as do most organisations in Mongolia. But that seems more a "nice to have" item than a "need". Which means they use it as a logo (next to their graphic insignia), as many businesses and other organisations in Mongolia do. Alberto Fujimori, the ex-president of Perú who was democratically elected by the people two times, was born in Perú, but both of his parents were Japanese. Therefore, there are so many manifestations of japanese life style in Perú, you probably might want to consider move to Perú as well, It will be easier for you. For example, a Peruvian-Japanese cuisine is very popular back in Lima, there is more than sushi and teriyaki. Talk:Wii

Is that really needed? Checking out the official Japanese Wii site, the name appears to be just "Wii" with no katakana version (the name is always rendered in English). Hi, i recently noticed you moved the {{law enforcement}} template to {{WPLE}} without discussing or establishing a consensus, please be aware that WP:BOLD does not apply to moving templates.

I have had a look at articles which use the law enforcement template and it does not affect them, luckily!

Scouting

I see you reverted my attempt to explicate the the position in UK scouting as regards a requirement for adult leaders to acknowledge a higher power. At the risk of frustrating you (or worse given your acquaintance with firearms)can you please point out where at http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/por/2006/2_2.htm#part_1 or http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/por/2006/2_1.htm#part_ it says this. In fact by my reading there only exists a requirement to be fully aware that they will be required by their personal example to implement the Association's religious policy which is what I said and which is hardly controversial.

Scouting in Laos

Hi, I just saw your request about the lao text in the logo. It reads "skudlao" which is how laotians would pronounce "scouts lao" ("u" as in english "good"). I'm sorry but I cannot put the lao characters into the wiki page - I have the fonts installed, and they work fine in MSOffice, but in Wikipedia I just get question marks (in Firefox) or little squares (in IE). Copy & paste does not help - I get "ld5f]k;" which is not better. I am going on a vacation now, back in August and this problem is one I will tackle again then (not really because of your scouts interests, but for myself).

The character in the badge looks like the lao letter L (for Laos) - the same as the 3rd-last character in skudlao.

Fair use image use

You reverted my removal of a fair use image from User:Kintetsubuffalo/workshop/Gallery of Scout and Guide national emblems[10]. Please understand that the display of fair use images outside of the main article namespace is not permitted per WP:NFCC item #9. Such images may be linked, but not displayed, on non-main namespace articles. The vast majority of images appear to be fair use images and may not be used on this page in the way you wish. I've changed the display of the images to eliminate "Image:" from all but one the images on this page. Please do not revert this change such that fair use images are displayed again.
