River Foss[edit]

Hi again. Good work on the article, and nice template. Some thoughts:

  • It seems a bit odd that the template goes from North to South, but the list of bridges goes the other way.
  • Not all the bridges on the list appear on the template (I'm particularly attached to the disused cast-iron Foss Islands Road/DEFRA bridge, but maybe that's because I took the photo on the Bridges of York page).
  • One or two things in the template need altering, e.g. Foss Bridge rather than Fossgate Bridge.
  • Also, the Castle Mills lock pic doesn't actually show much of the lock, just the lock gates on the left, with no sign of the other end of the lock. The water in the middle is the Foss approaching the lock, plus a sort of overflow thingy that goes either straight into the Ouse or probably (perhaps?) down to the Foss Barrier. I'd go and have a look but it's dark (and snowy) at present. (Added: see [here.)
  • Do we still need the See Also link to Bridges over the Foss? And I'm also wondering whether the text and images there might be moved here. Then maybe Bridges of York could be renamed as, um, I'm not sure what...

1993–94 Rugby Football League season[edit]

Thanks for acting on my plea for the Division-2 standings for the 1993–94 Rugby Football League season. Woop-Woop cheeky request alert... Does the Rothmans Rugby League Yearbook 1995-1996 also "tackle" the 1984–85. 1989–90, 1990–91, 1991–92, 1992–93, and 1995–96 seasons? (he asked knowingly). Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 17:12, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

It does and has all the historic tables. It is one of my long term aims to bring the seasons pages up to date. I'll "try" to do the others you've highlighted in the next couple of weeks when the kids aren't hogging the PC.Rimmer1993 (talk) 10:35, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Salton[edit]

If you look in the infobox, it will say [disambiguation needed] since Salton is a disambiguation page, that is a list of possible uses. Not being from the area, I was not able to determine which article was appropriate. So I tagged it to make the bad link more noticeable so that that someone with more knowledge could jump in. If you are interested, try this link for the tool I used. That would bring up the article in the UK project that have the same problem. You can just jump in and fix as many as you can. Please do you caution and try to get it right. Select 'I don't know' from the drop down box of choices when you are not reasonably sure. That tags the link as you saw making other editors aware. Have fun. Vegaswikian (talk) 17:39, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Thoralby[edit]

Hi, thanks for the changes to Thoralby and similar articles. Just as a note I think that there are about 20 of these type of villages pages that are done in a similar manner be new registered users and all starting editing about the same time. I suspect that it is a school class that has been given a project to pick a village and expand the article. The villages are mainly in North Yorkshire, but there are some in Lincolnshire, so may be the school involved is in North Yorkshire and the Lincolnshire ones are because the person comes from there. Keith D (talk) 09:10, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Recent Editing[edit]

Hello, just to confirm you were right about it being a project however it is not a school but a university one, the University of Portsmouth to be more exact. This is because our lecturer runs the website a Vision of Britain and this project is benefiting him greatly as it aids his site please follow the link for more details if needed. http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/ 15:26 9 April 2013

  • Thanks for letting me know. I do use information from that site on a lot of the village pages i am updating. With the release of the 2011 census data, it now makes even more sense to use sites like that for info for articles to provide the historic demographic data too. As always the info used is properly referenced so that the site gets credit. I would advise against just reproducing the wholesite info on wikipedia though. Comparisons of data over a spread of years is arguably more useful to a reader than focusing on just one year (unless that is all you have to go on).Rimmer1993 (talk) 16:48, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
  • Also, is there any way to ask someone to stop deleting stuff off the page, at least until I've put it all up and printed it off? In one hour, well 20 mins everything I had in the main body is basically gone... talk 16:19, 10 April 2013
    • I will take a look at what Acabashi has done, but they are a pretty good editor so probably made some reasonable points about what you had added. I would advise you take a look at Guide to writing about settlements and see some of the things you can and can't do as well as the style of writing, which is maybe what has got picked up on here. Don't get put off, some editors are more forthright in their editing than others and don't intend any slight (for want of a better word). If you examine the references at the bottom of the page you will see that the source you have found is one I use regularly too. Just be careful to put things in your own words and not just copy. Happy to keep helping. Also, you might find it useful to use the user sandbox that comes with your account as an area that you and only you can edit. This so you can see what any changes look like before they go live by copying them to the article in question. The link to your personal sandbox can be found at the top right of your user page.Rimmer1993 (talk) 17:03, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

County cups[edit]

Hi Rimmer1993 and thanks for your great work creating articles on the county cups of England. I would like to point out there is a specific infobox, Template:Infobox football tournament which should be used on such pages and not the Template:infobox football tournament season which you have been using. I have updated a few but it would be appreciated if you could make sure they all use the right format. Thanks and keep up the good work, C679 05:05, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Catterick Thanks[edit]

Cheers for this. My apologies for missing the links request you put on the Catterick Page; look like you hit most of the big players anyway. The additional information available on 'PastScape' (a historic environment record website ran by English Heritage; just search 'pastscape') will be a very useful addition. It will be a formal breakdown of the known information, history of excavation, date ranges, and have a few additional references to paper sources thrown into it. Zakhx150 (talk) 09:41, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

North Cowton[edit]

Hi. I've done further copyedits and adds on North Cowton. The London distance [1] I've put to nearest 10 miles, anything sharper would probably be too precise given the distance and the size of London - up to 100 miles from London I tend to go for 5 mile jumps. Somewhere like Berwick is 300 milesish so that a 298 or 303 would look a bit ridiculous. For the same reason I've truncated the distance from Northallerton, which itself is of quite a size. I've truncated the postcode district, as a postcode district is not 'part of a postcode district'.

I like the way you've used a section named 'Community' (which I use) - this is slightly away from WP:UKVILLAGES guidelines, but what do you do when there isn't enough stuff to make up all the other advised sections ? So a heading of 'Community' can be a useful catch-all for lots of other stuff that's not 'History', of which there usually is a lot.

I've changed the 'English Heritage' named refs to 'British Listed buildings'. BLB web site (easier to navigate) isn't EH, just a copy of the stuff. I hope I'm not preaching to the converted but you can use the BLB building ID/Ref no. to nav through here - [2] - and then use the equivalent EH number to add to the <ref>{{NHLE |num= add number |desc= add building |grade= add grade level |accessdate= add date}}</ref> template.

Cheers. Acabashi (talk) 03:59, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 4[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Downholme, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hudswell (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

2008 West Riding County Cup Final[edit]

Just to inform that I have re-altered the location of the 2008 West Riding County Cup final back to Woodlesford, Leeds, as this is where it was played.

You had altered it back from the original entry of Woodlesford to the CNG Stadium (home of Harrogate Town AFC). As far as I am aware, at least in the last ten years or so, it has never been played at the venue of one of the participating teams.

85.255.233.225 (talk) 04:24, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

The reason i had changed it back was that i had checked the West Riding County FA website and found their reference.http://www.westridingfa.com/cups/2007-2008/county-fa-county-cup/results#final . As you will see it states it was at the CNG Stadium in Harrogate. I would say that is pretty reliable source.Rimmer1993 (talk) 17:06, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Well you, and it, would be wrong as it was held at Woodlesford! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.40.248.148 (talk) 23:53, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

As you will see i haven't changed it back whilst this is in dispute. However, if you have or know a reference from, say, a local paper, one of the team's web sites or such to back your claim, then this would resolve it. It is not wikipedia rules just to accept someone's word, it needs to be verifiable.Rimmer1993 (talk) 11:36, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Yet you seem to think your word is gospel - interesting! Anyway maybe this will finally stop you - http://www.harrogatetownafc.com/club/harrogate-town-afc-archive/wrcc-07-08/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.174.156.212 (talk) 23:59, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

I never claimed my word to be gospel, just pointing out that this is exactly the sort of evidence you needed to provide to back your claim to ensure that the article is accurate. Thank you for doing so. My only point was that the only source i was able to find at the County FA website, which is proved to be inaccurate. There was never anything personal in this, just trying to make articles as accurate as possible. If you have not already done so, i will add your reference into the article.Rimmer1993 (talk) 11:02, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
