WP:ADOPT[edit]

Hi there,

As a user looking to Adopt with the Adopt-a-User program, there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention, as well as request help with the backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

You should know that the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking. Once adoption is complete please use the templates found here on the Adoptee's and your user page.

Also numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Furthermore a new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you have and if you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

So I hope you get adopting soon - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 15:25, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect of Barbados Rocks[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Barbados Rocks, by Mschel, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Barbados Rocks is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Barbados Rocks, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Barbados Rocks itself. Speedy deletion of User hate Nicktoon Network[edit]

A tag has been placed on User hate Nicktoon Network, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. AfD nomination of Ahmed Faseeh[edit]

An editor has nominated Ahmed Faseeh, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ahmed Faseeh and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 14:18, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Research Questions[edit]

Thank you for taking the time for this interview.

Do you feel that the general opinion of Wikipedia in the academic community is more positive, or negative?

To the extent of my knowledge, many members of the academic community regard Wikipedia in a positive manner.

Why do you think this perception exists?

People find Wikipedia to be a fast, easy source of information, although they do acknowledge that it may not be perfectly accurate.

How accurate do you think the information in Wikipedia is compared to other encyclopedias?

The same as other encyclopedias on average, but quite variable: Since Wikipedia is run by the people, articles of interest to the general public will probably be the most reliable.

How wide and comprehensive is the scope of Wikipedia compared to print media sources?

By the standards of encyclopedias, the scope of Wikipedia is colossal and still growing. When you have thousands of contributors from different backgrounds, you are bound to end up with information that no other encyclopedia has.

As an administrator, what flaws do you see in Wikipedia?

Unfortunately, a consequence of having so many contributors is that there is a good chance that many of them are not familiar with the policies and guidelines. Therefore, unreferenced or poorly written statements lurk in every corner.

Of these flaws, which do you think are fixable, and which are inherent in the system?

The wonderful thing about a wiki is that everything can be fixed. The process of correcting newcomer errors usually involves the placing of templates by individuals who notice the mistakes, which flag the article as needing attention. The disadvantage to templates is that they look unappealing to readers; the advantage is that they warn of the error.

Have you ever taken information on Wikipedia to be fact, and then later realize that it was in fact wrong? Has this happened to people you know?

Learning false information from Wikipedia is nearly inevitable, but it doesn't happen often.

How quickly is false information generally dectected and corrected?

An editor reads through the article inconspicuously, but suddenly encounters a statement that either contradicts what they have heard before or is attributed to a reliable source. They look it up and confirm their suspicion that it is wrong, and fix it.

How do you feel that Wikipedia deserves to be treated among students and teachers? e.g. Would you find it illogical for a teacher to say “Wikipedia is bad; don’t use it.”?

If someone condems Wikipedia because of its potential inaccuracy, then they suggest that the entire Internet, even secondary sources in general, should be shunned. The encyclopedia contains a gateway to knowledge; students just need to have the wisdom to use it properly.

Finally, is there anything else you’d like to say on the subject? Any closing thoughts you’d want to express to the public at large?

It is human nature to err, and The Free Encyclopedia is no exception. Nevertheless, a cautious reader can find limitless information contained within the wiki. Falacious information is added regularly, and can be seen on almost every given list of recent edits, but it vanishes as quickly as it is published, and for every instance of vandalism, there are several more beneficial or good-natured modifications. As the project progresses, we are doing our best to ensure that only the improvements survive. Remember, Wikipedia can be the ultimate source for facts if you browse carefully.

Again, thank you for your time.

Thanks!![edit]

Thanks a ton for doing this! If I knew how to give you some kind of kooky award on your userpage, I would ;) Goat77 (talk) 18:08, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Happy Tree Friends characters[edit]

What's your opinion about restoring the character's articles ? I asked about 10 users but only one of 'em answered, how can make the other answer ?

--Mr Alex (talk) 02:36, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He's right you know, he asked me at least, so has seeked other users opinions. Deamon138 (talk) 20:20, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure that other users will say it if they disagree about restoring the articles once the work will be done.

PS : Do you now allow me to restore the articles ?

--Mr Alex (talk) 22:56, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please respond ? If you don't I'll restore the character articles without permission.

--Mr Alex (talk) 01:56, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I wasn't willing to restore the main characters' articles until the images got deleted, they all deserve a main image. The porpose of restoring the articles is first of all, to illustrate each characters. One of the reasons that the characters were merged in a list was because there where way too much imformations. The content in the article where the same as in the list exept that there is a table and a Trivia section. This makes a very good deal, there wouldn't be too much imformations, each main character would have their own images, the list of characters wouldn't have too many images and this would allow a few other characters to have an images too, though, we don't need any more images. And I would add that the tables would be useful for reader who just want to make a quick check on basic informations such as a characters' gender and species. Images like the one on the main one in the list are perfect for recurring characters, not for main characters. Compare my version of a main character article and the one of wikia, as an example check Cuddles, which one is bigger mine, or Wikia's. Tell me your opinion about that. Is it a deal ?

--Mr Alex (talk) 19:42, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, so how many users did agree to giving the characters their own articles besides Alex and I? Tedmund (talk) 19:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HTF copyrighted images[edit]

This discussion concerns you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alex 8194 (talkcontribs)

We should decide wich character we illustrate and who we don't, Cuddles' rabbit slippers are not visible in the main image, the same thing for Russell's peglegs and his hook is barely visible. Cuddles, Giggles, Toothy, and Lumpy are the four most primary characters, they are featured in almost all episodes. Having a picture of Good Flippy is a good idea, Bad Flippy is in the main image. That would be fair. What do you think ?

Salutations. I propose you change your username (for the second time) this can be done at Meta Wiki. You should change it to UberScienceNub , [don't worry its not taken I checked]. My reasoning is as follows. No one who actually comprehends science could actually believe in Theistic Evolution. For you see you can't explain what god evolved from- the ultimate 747. This probably won't make you inclinced to modify your POV but remember the truth is out there for those willing to seek it. Try the book called The God Delusion for one. Hello! I am Belugaboy of the Wikipedia Signpost. I am here to strongly urge you to join the WikiProject Desk at the Signpost! All you need to do is sign your name in the contributors box at the desk page and you're all set to find a project to interview. This is a popular feature at the Signpost and is actually quite an enjoyable experience. So please, come on down!

Hello! My name is Belugaboy, and by now, you and I both have heard of the Motto Shop, and if not, there's a Motto Shop! It's an exclusive place where users can get their own motto to live by on the wiki. It's great, but we're really running slow, in fact, we haven't seen a customer in months. So we thought YOU, the contributors to Motto of the Day, could spread the word to your WikiFriends, heck, order yourself one, whether you have or haven't before. Thank you and warm regards to all of you!
