Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Xoloz! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 943 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Xoloz,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.9.115.210 (talk) 21:54, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged this as a copyright violation of https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?id=233449000100806&story_fbid=427317250713979 . You declined it on the grounds that "the Facebook page is a copy of this article, which has been around for some time.) Article is substandard, but notability is asserted."

The Facebook page appears to have been created on August 30, 2013. The Wikipedia page appears to have been created a couple of weeks later, on September 13, 2013. The first edit was largely based on the Facebook page, and the current edit still contains too much in the way of copyright violations.

It is best to just delete it and let interested editors WP:STARTOVER rather than to clean it up completely and leave the copyright violations in the edit history. Please reconsider and delete the page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:50, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dohrmann[edit]

My apologies to this person in advance...I have no other means of reaching xoloz...i submitted a wiki on Kristopher 'Kritta' dohrmann...xoloz deleted this submission of unimportance (paraphrasing)... my question is how this arbitrary decision is valid... this individual should have the same stature and standards as similar recording artists... he has his own minority-owned company, creative minds inspire; I referenced links and other data, including Wikipedia to substantiate the facts; every attempt was made to not write data that could be misconstrued as 'self-serving or self promoting. I compared what was written on wiki regarding other artists to ensure and adhere to the standards I perceive the spirit of wiki preaches...I ask that I be allowed to resubmit this information... or explain how someone can be considered insignificant. I look forward to your response. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dannydohrmann (talkcontribs)

Page move[edit]

On Caste_system_among_Indian_Christians. There were a total of 6 votes. If we go by consensus. 3 users suggested that page should be changed to Caste system among Christians in South Asia, as discrimination in Pakistan, and caste system in Sri lanka was agreed upon. I agreed with it, so making it 4 support for "Caste system among Christians in South Asia", 1 support for "Caste system among Christian", while 2 oppose. So there was agreement for page move, but different name than it was suggested, you can recheck. Bladesmulti (talk) 09:22, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nikki Phoenix[edit]

HELP! I'm more than a little frustrated, as I put up the articles on Nikki Phoenix. A year ago, the first page was deleted under WP:TOOSOON. That's understandable, I archived that page, and put up a new one, documenting her multiple award nomination and everything else that satisfies notability requirements. That directly contractdicts the paragraph freerangefrog cited for speedy deletion. I also contacted the original admin, Lord Roem (see his talk page) asking about putting the page up before I did it, and he didn't bother to respond. Why was the page deleted, when that paragraph specifically says, "excluded if the original reason (wp:toosoon in this case) no longer applies."

I would need to know how to put up the page with out what seems to be descriminatory/arbitrary deletion. FreeRangeFrog also cited "has not won anything" as a reason for speedy deletion, that is completely false, I noted approx 15 other well known adult stars that have pages with only nominations cited as notability. Were the other 15 girls listed deleted as well? Please help me!!! thanks this is a frustrating situation for me and I would like someone to assist me :)

Art javier (talk) 01:12, 1 March 2014 (UTC) art_javier[reply]

Thanks so much for your response, would it be better to create an article focusing on her mainstream/singing endeavors? it would seem to me that her Billboard ads, mainstream movie appearances and particularly her singing career warrant notability, notwithstanding her multiple awards nominations. Having looked at the WP:PORN notability requirements, Im puzzled as it appears to me that she has satisfied requirements for notability in that area, but will there be better luck in her other areas of endeavor? Thanks for responding, I found it extremely frustrating that I left a detailed query on the original admin's talk page about this before I wrote the article and got no response from him.

any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Best, Art javier (talk) 16:22, 1 March 2014 (UTC) art_javier[reply]

Xolox, thanks very much for your response and for moving the article into my sandbox. I will work on the article to reflect her mainstream accomplishments, as I feel that also better represents her achievements as well and I don't want people to focus on just her adult work since that seems to be a small part of who/what she is all about. Thanks for also noticing that I had spent so much time sourcing references I do believe in citing things meticulously and not just putting up garbage so I know what you mean when you speak about that LOL. I will reach out to you to have you look over the article when I feel that it is ready. Once it is what do I do? Do I just send you another note? will you be able to look at it in my sandbox?

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate that you are trying to help me. I've always kept to myself in the Wiki community because up until you I have not met anyone that has been particularly helpful. Rather most folks I have met seem to vandalize pages and leave mean comments. How does one become an Admin btw? You have singlehandedly renewed my interest in the community.

Thanks again Art javier (talk) 18:18, 4 March 2014 (UTC) art_javier[reply]

Deleting my wikipedia Page[edit]

Dear Xoloz,

I have recently added a page on your plateform about the OCP Policy Center (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OCP_Policy_Center). We believe Wikipedia is one of the most reliable and independent sources of information and certainly the main source of information when it comes to profiles of companies and NGOs. Therefore we believe we need to be present in your plateform. Unfortunately our recent attempts to add the page on Wikipedia have failed and the page was deleted a couple of times. I am not familiar with Wikipedia rules but we would like to know the main issue with our description of the OCP Policy Center and its mission and main initiatives, and how we can adapt it to meet the Wikipedia terms and conditions. Just briefly, the OCP Policy Center is a think tank established in 2011 in Rabat Morocco and has tight relations and partnerships with several other well established think thanks like: - The International Monetary Fund : with whom we have organised a Conference on food security http://www.imf.org/external/np/sec/pr/2014/pr1464.htm (press release) and http://www.imf.org/external/np/seminars/eng/2014/food/index.htm (conference agenda)

- The German Marshall fund : with whom we have a joint research program http://www.gmfus.org/publications/wider-atlantic-series/ and with whom we organise a high level conference http://www.atlanticdialogues.org/

INVEST Financial Corporation Page[edit]

Good afternoon, You took down INVEST Financial Corporation's page and made these notes: "promotional article for a subsidiary of a subsidiary (NPH) of a major compan, prudential plc -- the top firm in the list properly has an article, butthis far down the chain it is not notable." We are indeed a subsidiary of a major company, but we do very different business from our parent companies and do substantial business across the US (our reps manage $30 billion in assets under management). We did not feel that the page was promotional or biased, but if there are certain sections or wording that you felt was, it can definitely be edited out or trimmed to basic verifiable facts. Could you reconsider the complete removal or provide more specifics as to the need to completely remove it? Thank you for your consideration! IFCosta (talk) 19:31, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, but I'm going to have to disagree with you assessment on Patrick Scales. Just because one is a professional, that does not mean they should have their own article. Scales was a member of the New York Jets prior to joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but was only an offseason member. It would be one thing if he made the active roster and played in the regular season. It's quite another when there is no reason to suggest, as of yet, he will be a even make it past training camp cuts in August. Clarification regarding page deletion for Specto_Design[edit]

Your assessment of Specto Design's design awards is incorrect. You state: "None of these awards are notable (i.e., just contests set up where people pay an entree fee and get to say they won an award". Reality is that everyone has to pay an entry fee to participate in the design contest, however this does not guarantee in any way to be nominated. I do not know the exact ratio between contestants and nominations, however even we have submitted design projects for which we never received an award for. We kindly request a re-assessment of the Specto_Design wikipeda page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spectodesign2 (talkcontribs) 15:33, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

First off Bell Gardens is a band with members of the very well known Stars Of The Lid - Brian McBride ... and Kenneth James Gibson who is very notable for being a well known artist / musician / DJ of many years. After some research it appears the the Kenneth James Gibson page was on Wikipedia since 2009 and now its gone. I am so confused as to why that was deleted just because i added the new Bell Gardens information. Bell Gardens has released music on very well known labels such as Southern records. Kenneth James Gibson himself has 100's of music releases and is a very well known live performer... I just have no idea why this got deleted. I feel very bad getting this page taken down. Please help. thank you Xoloz, Ambient.Trivia (talk) 04:46, 17 April 2014 (UTC)Ambient.Trivia[reply]

@Ambient.Trivia: I have restored Bell Gardens (band) and Kenneth James Gibson - you need to be able to add sources that show the subject is notable. See Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Criteria_for_musicians_and_ensembles to see if this is feasible. Please try and do this in the next few days as any longer than that and they may be re-deleted. sorry. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 08:14, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nimbo Page deleted[edit]

Hi,

I would like to start a discussion and hopefully get the Nimbo page activated again. The article was carefully constructed to ensure all content was linked to external, trusted resources. It wasn't sales or advertising focused. It was a basic representation of the company and highlighted technology awards that had been awarded by reputable organizations such as Microsoft, CRN etc. This page is important to tell Nimbo, the company, apart from other businesses offering product called Nimbo. If there's anything specific that triggered the deletion I'd be more than happy to comply and modified content considered COI. The article has been up for years and the only recent change was trying to update the company logo.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Redirects as search terms[edit]

Hi! I was cleaning up the redirects for the Subscriber identity module article a bit by adding missing incoming redirects, adding rcats to some, and nominating some preexisting redirects for speedy deletion per G6, which you declined stating that they were useful search terms.

I agree with you that three of them are useful search terms, but as you probably know, the search box is case-insensitive and we already have redirects of exactly the same name in proper capitalization. So, if we delete the faulty redirects nominated by me, those other redirects will automatically "take over". From the user's perspective, there will be no difference. That's why I mentioned the other existing redirects in the rationale, but perhaps this didn't became very clear.

So, while we need redirects from spelling variants and all useful capitalization variants, variants with uncommon capitalization variants are no useful search terms at all (for as long as the correctly capitalized redirect exists), they just increase the risk, that they are accidently linked to in other articles (instead of "forcing" editors to use the correct capitalization there as well).

Some of them are even left-overs from actual moves.

I would appreciate if you would reconsider the nomination. Thanks and greetings. --Matthiaspaul (talk) 14:00, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sitka Fine Arts Camp[edit]

Hmmm, this is strange. From the looks of it, I posted a message contesting the PROD for this article late this morning, yet you deleted it anyway some matter of minutes later. The edit doesn't show up in my contributions list, though it's unclear to me whether or not edits involving deleted pages are supposed to show up normally in that list. My "smart"phone is somewhat on the ancient side (HTC Wildfire), so it's possible that it tricked me into believing that the edit was saved when in fact it wasn't. Otherwise, perhaps you needed to have cleared your browser cache and didn't? I do recall seeing a timestamp on the PROD message and figured there were no worries because the message stated that the article could be deleted at any time after that point, yet the time of deletion was instead in the neighborhood of three hours before that point. I'm unsure what to make of this, but I'd sure love answers if any are to be had. I fully understand that deletionist editors are having a government purge-like field day right about now, but episodes such as this can only lead me to believe that Wikipedia is all about wasting my time. Trust me; at my age, you start treating things like your time seriously. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 22:43, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I take it my tone may have been misconstrued. I've seen so much rampant deletionism flash across my watchlist lately, it would be fair to call it the Wikipedia equivalent of the Night of the Long Knives (uh oh, shades of Godwin's law!). I dunno if this is really a minor point or not, but Andy (who proposed deletion) evidently didn't disclose that the PROD was in conjunction with this TFD. That even moreso makes AFD the more appropriate place for this, as the two actions combined would imply an opinion that the entire (sub-)topic is of no encyclopedic value. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 19:48, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I do apologize. I spent so much time considering whether to delete the article (I seriously considered contesting the PROD myself), I didn't check the talk page. In the future, User:RadioKAOS, feel free to remove the PROD notice yourself. This is your right as an editor: anyone can remove a PROD notice for any reason. No explanation is even required, though it is strongly encouraged. Your precedural objections to the nominator's actions were sufficient reasons in themselves to remove all the PRODs from the various camp articles. Rest assured that I am not a "deletionist"; I contest several PRODs a day, on average. PROD is intended for noncontroversial cases; vigorous objections are as much a part of the process as the nominations are. Lastly, per Salvidrum (Salvidrim, please! ~Salv), I am happy to restore any PRODed article at any time. Please feel free to ask! Best wishes, Xoloz (talk) 20:41, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Utsav Fashion Page Re-Written[edit]

Dear Xoloz,

We had shared the content for Utsav Fashion Page earlier, but it was rejected due to promotional content. Have updated the same now, and submitted on 'Talk' page of Utsav Fashion. Here is the link to the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Utsav_Fashion

Please advise, how can we make this page better. Let us know, if we can get in touch with your over telcon for better clarity.

Warm Regards

Team Utsav Fashion — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.19.8.58 (talk) 10:08, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My friends,

I'm sorry to tell you this, but I think you fail to appreciate fundamentally what the purpose of Wikipedia is. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia: it is not a directory of companies or a tool by which to promote them. Wikipedia exists to document subjects which have garnered verifiable coverage in reliable sources. Reliable sources include respected newspapers, periodicals, published books, television programs, and the like. Reliable sources do not include any person or entity affiliated with the subject. Such affiliation in sources or editors represents a conflict of interest. While editors with conflicts of interest are not strictly forbidden from editing subjects in which they are involved, they are strongly discouraged. Wikipedia articles must have a neutral point of view, which is very difficult for involved editors to achieve. Basically, "Team Utsav Fashion" are not the ideal people to edit an article on Utsav Fashion. If you choose to edit such an article anyway (which I strongly discourage, per policy), you must base the article content on reliable sources. Your current draft appears to have no reliable sources cited, and is unacceptable for this reason. If you wish to try again, you may edit post a revised draft to my talk page. I cannot emphasize enough that reliable sources are an absolute necessity for any future draft. Best wishes, Xoloz (talk) 21:28, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Biography[edit]

Dear Xoloz,

I saw that you performed an edit on a page I had been watching recently and seek some advice. A user, Szsmr2014, created an account to mimic my own and undo any edits on the page George_Anastassiou. I feel certain that this page does fail the GNG, but I don't want to get in an edit war with this person.

Thanks for any help.

Metronaut[edit]

Just letting you know, I had already declined CSD A7 speedy deletion on Metronaut a week or so ago, because it was not unambiguously non-notable, possibly meeting WP:BAND criterion #12, and I recommended PROD or AFD. You should probably amend your A7 deletion rationale to deletion per PROD, which was the last proposal. ~Amatulić (talk) 21:10, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I noticed that you added a blpprod to Norman Friend. He was born in 1815. He is most certainly not a living person. Please be careful.

Hi Xoloz[edit]

Hi Xoloz,

I am the user who used the account Szsmr2014. I totally understand why you closed my account. No hard feelings for it. I promise you I have no reasons to harass anybody. I know better than that. As opposed to Szsmr I am not only a Mathematician but also a Computer Scientist, and recently I got involved in Open Source projects. I am, however, very beginner in the World of Wikipedia.

I wanted to share with you my belief that Szsmr may try delete Anastassiou's page because of a personal dispute with him. These disputes should not be here on Wikipedia. Wikipedia should be a source of information, not personal disputes. If you follow my comments on the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/George_Anastassiou you will see how this user minimizes and speculates Anastassiou's work.

Similar pages by other University of Memphis faculty, with less work are not subject to deletion. Please see many examples here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:University_of_Memphis_faculty

Although I did my best in creating Anastassiou's page, and included a lot of sources, its sad to see this page getting deleted because of misunderstanding or personal disputes. (Guadalupe1960 (talk) 04:37, 24 April 2014 (UTC))[reply]

I would not despair over the page. It looks set to be kept at the AfD, which will secure its place in Wikipedia for the foreseeable future. Clearly, both you and Szsmr care deeply about Prof. Anastassiou's article. Despite your disagreements, I hope both of you become long-term contributors to a variety of articles. Caring deeply about intellectual topics is one hallmark of a good Wikipedia editor that the two of you share. Best wishes, Xoloz (talk) 21:10, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Xoloz. I really appreciate you for being objective, and seeing both our sides. (Guadalupe1960 (talk) 00:07, 25 April 2014 (UTC))[reply]
This is yet another new account that was created to fight for this page. I don't understand what the big deal is. Szsmr (talk) 03:01, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand why Szsmr makes such a big deal with Anastassiou's page either. It is very odd to me that you, Szsmr, want to learn about Wikipedia, and the first thing you do, you insist on deleting people's pages. Actually I should say, Anastassiou's page. I have a feeling that's the only page you are trying to "fix". You should instead try helping expand the Wikipedia website (especially since you are new to wikipedia). Guadalupe1960 (talk) 03:53, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Szsmr I am not attacking you by any means! You may want to play the victim, but I am only trying to avoid the deletion of Anastassiou's page. That's it. How am I attacking/intimidating you? Guadalupe1960 (talk) 04:08, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The articles about which you inquire were deleted through Wikipedia's proposed deletion process. Under this process, the request of anyone -- including yourself -- is sufficient to have the articles restored. I will do this shortly. The restoration which i will perform does not protect the articles from further challenge. They may still be nominated by any editor for a full deletion debate, where a thorough discussion on the merits of the articles can be conducted. Best wishes, Xoloz (talk) 20:29, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On what grounds should these articles be restored? They do not meet notability criteria. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:26, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(Talk page stalker) The article was PRODded, which is used only for uncontroversial deletion. If anyone later objects, the deletion is reversed and assumed to be controversial (so you can't just re-prod). If you want to start a discussion about whether the article should be retained the correct place is articles for deletion. Cheers, Tazerdadog (talk) 03:55, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm familiar with how the deletion process works, but you're wrong in that if someone objects, they must "explain why [they] disagree with the proposed deletion, either in the edit summary or on the talk page". That has not been done. Also requests must be made at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion not on the deleting admin's page.
The real problem is that most editors in the music project do not bother to patrol the AfDs and so it's more difficult to delete an article that way. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:17, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violation - image[edit]

This image seems copyright violation. It can be seen here or here. Take necessary action. --AntonTalk 09:45, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The place to report copyright problems with images is here: Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files. I'm away from home this week, and not able to address the situation quickly. Given the image description, it is possible that the image's uploader was given the rights to the image by the subject, rights which the uploader then released into the public domain. I agree that it seems more likely that the uploader was merely given a photo, and that the uploader misunderstands the principles of copyright law. In any case, the uploader should be asked for clarification. Best wishes, Xoloz (talk) 14:31, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Callington Town F.C.[edit]

I see that this was deleted via a PROD, which I did not notice. I can't comment on the article as it was because I can't see it, but they are on the point of promotion to Level 10, so the article will doubtless be recreated. Would it be possible to restore the old article when that time comes rather than start all over again? Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:04, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Under PROD procedures, the request of any editor -- including yourself -- is sufficient for the article to be restored outright. Given the circumstances that you describe, though, perhaps it would be best if I userfied the article to your userspace, allowing you to move the article to the mainspace once promotion to Level 10 occurs. I think that was when an article was attempted after Nintendo released art for the game at an E3. SNS (talk) 05:29, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked over the content at Untitled Zelda Project. Other than the mention of Miyamoto, there is almost no content of any use. In my judgment, it isn't worth merging. The other issue is that the title Untitled Zelda Project is generic enough that it might be used in for future projects in development, and a redirect to Skyward Sword thus isn't appropriate.
