WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 21:29, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

The article Kamraj Desiya Congress has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references finds only a single very minor published (gBooks) reference to the subject, fails WP:V and WP:N

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello, my friends: A group of us are working on clearing the backlog at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Articles_lacking_sources_from_October_2006. The article in the above header has been without sources for the past four years and might be removed if none are added. I wonder if you can help find one or two good references. Sincerely, and all the best to you, GeorgeLouis (talk) 19:22, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Enthrian dispute

Can I get a third party opinion of [edit] which is now locked? Can the company's revenue report of 179 crore be taken to mean the same as box office gross? Are the sources that were there already considered reliable? If not, what can be done, as it seems that aren't many sources for Tamil films deemed reliable. City templates

There are currently city templates for 4 cities in TN - Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore and Madurai. While the Chennai template is the first and the oldest, I created the Tiruchi and Coimbatore templates based on the Chennai template, with the intention of expanding the city template concept to include all million-plus agglomerations. I just want to know whether it would be a good idea to expand the idea still further and include all municipal corporations. I thought a bit about it and found that while some corporations like Tirunelveli have a long, rich and colourful history, new ones like Tiruppur barely have any past. Hence, I would like to have your opinion on the same.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 16:25, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

I agree with your direction, it seems the history section for new cities will be a simple article rather than like othesr with older histories. Kanatonian (talk) 16:39, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Yup! And culturally, too, some cities don't have much to offer.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 12:31, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
I think lot of details in the existing templates can be merged with district ones - likeTiruchirappalli has listing of all localities within Trichy, which are otherwise one line articles with no details. The history section is common in many of these templates. We can look at including municipal corporations with the city or district templates S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 22:09, 30 October 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
The question is not whether city templates are actually necessary but for which cities templates are needed. Creating city templates is a requirement for Wikipedia and a general discussion on whether city templates are actually needed should be taken at a pan-Wikipedia level not in specific Wikiproject discussions. As you might notice, there are templates for all metros in India, such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. There are also templates for New York City and other big agglomerations. By the way, you might also have noticed district templates like Settlements in Uttara Kannada district which has many one-line articles in the list. The point is, (I've already told you many times) one-line articles are not taboo in Wikipedia as long as they have sources. And then, going by your logic, the history of most of the districts are similar. Most districts have been ruled by the Vijayanagar Empire and the Medieval Cholas. So what do you propose to do in this case. By your logic, district templates, too, would not be necessary. And then, the history of Tamil Nadu and Kerala were identical until the fall of the Medieval Chola Empire. So, by your logic, state templates, too, would seem unnecessary.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 12:19, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
I think it's a good initiative to expand this idea for other cities too. However, for cities like Tiruppur and Erode, which don't have much to mention about history, a template might be still necessary as those cities are developing more nowadays. Coming to cities like Thanjavur and Tirunelveli, which have a long "History" a lot can be written. So I feel it's good to have templates for all Municipal Corporations and for some major towns like Thanjavur and even Kanchipuram, which have a rich heritage. --Commander (Ping Me) 17:03, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Yup, though, Thanjavur is only a municipality we might make an exception in this case, as it has more than 2000 years of history behind it and certainly interesting things as the Tanjore doll, Tanjore painting, etc. Hmm, true, indeed, but I think it would be better if people who live in these cities (Tirunelveli and Tiruppur), or have atleast been there, create templates for them. Any volunteers???-RaviMy Tea Kadai 15:37, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

I have explained why the district and city templates are same in case of Trichy in1. Suburb defintion may not be applicable to trichy/madurai and these needs to be split to villages/areas. When history of any link within a city template is clicked and not even a mention of the city is found, is it relevant to have it under the template? The history in the region may be the same, but specifics would be more apt - like Malik kafur war, carnatic war or War of Serigham etc. Any city would have hundreds of areas - the point is distinction and noteworthiness. While defining or expanding these city templates, we need to define city limits or use generic phrases like 'in' and 'around'. - else district template is same as the city template. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 22:12, 31 October 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
It appears that you don't get my point. The Government of India clearly defines what constitutes the Tiruchirappalli urban agglomeration. See here. The Tiruchirappalli municipal corporation comprises of erstwhile municipalities of Tiruchirappalli, Golden Rock and Srirangam while the urban agglomeration comprises of Tiruchirappalli municipal corporation and the municipalities that are listed in the above link. The Trichy template created is for the urban agglomeration. We do consider places which are "around" Trichy municipal corporation but within the urban agglomeration. As for the similarities between two templates, you might notice that the city template lists all the sieges of Trichy city while district template doesn't.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 15:16, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
You based this on census UA, but still has wrong details within the scope. Like for other templates, why shouldn't this be given to locals who are more knowledgable in the stream to avoid some missing aspects like bhel, happ which IMO are rather prime. Second, suburb is a wrong term for cities like trichy - ex. Thillainagar is not fully suburb, neither an admin region- compared with chennai, which has a relatively better suburb delineation. Try using the term villages or town panchayats or sth that is more apt S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 22:46, 1 November 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
Thillai Nagar is neither a village nor a town panchayat. FYKI, User:Vensatry who is from Trichy is involved with this. Suburb is more appropriate for parts of an urban agglomeration than "village" or "town panchayat". True, the level of urbanisation is not as high as in cities like Chennai, but that does not make such areas "villages". And FYKI, the Chennai template also lists places like Porur, a town panchayat, among its suburbs.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 01:51, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
I'd like to bring to your knowledge that Thillai Nagar, Tharanallur are neighbourhoods and parts of the municipal corporation, not suburbs; and FYKI, Chennai neighbourhoods like Mylapore, etc., are also not administrative regions. The Mylapore assembly constituency also includes corporation wards which are considered part of Adyar. As for suburbs, I believe, suburbs or Trichy are as well demarcated as those of Chennai.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 03:06, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
What is the source of suburb demarcation for Trichy? I feel the UA blanket is used for rural areas within Trichy & it is quite misleading. One can refer by whatever term, but they are still villages(ex.kambarasampettai). I think you got the whole point - we cannot have the same template as of chennai as it is highly urbanised compared to Trichy & the terms need to be different. Also i just observed there is already a template for neighbourhoods of Trichy. Can we have sth like a rolling template - like the one used in Delhi. The district, UA and neighbourhood templates - given that many artciles would be using these three together, duplication can be avoided here.
I think all municipal corporations can benefit from a template with some optional parameters. As an aside, I notice that the "educational institutions" field often gets unwieldy and questions of relative notability could crop up. Isn't it better not to have it in the template? Also, is there a MoS recommendation for the colour scheme of such templates? The green colour of Template:Chennai topics seems to be out of place in the overall article scheme, no? -- Sundar \talk \contribs 04:24, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Well, why don't we list only those educational institutions which have an article. Every educational institution article, itself, would have to satisfy notability criteria in order to remain in Wikipedia, isn't it! As for the colour, my choice is the default "light blue" rather than a "Hindu saffron" or an "Islamic green" or "Communist red". :-)-RaviMy Tea Kadai 15:22, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
I've removed the colours for the Chennai template. A plain one is better, I feel.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 15:41, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Revenue blocks

I see numerous articles on revenue blocks/taluks - all of them are one liners from TN admin website. Instead of having so many articles, a single page listing all these would be of much value. If anyone feels notable details can be added to these, discuss about it or merging them S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 22:15, 30 October 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt

I don't see your logic. There are so many articles on municipalities, so do we need to create articles for each and every one of the 100-odd municipalities in TN; why not merge them into a single list. There are also so many unsourced or poorly sourced articles on Hinduism in Wikipedia. Do we need all these articles?-RaviMy Tea Kadai 12:28, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Also, if you merge the 1,000 revenue blocks into a single list, the list may be more than 100 KB long.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 12:46, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

My point is - if most of the blocks/taluks dont have much of a scope to be expanded, they can be collated as a list(not single, probably at district level) and an umbrella sort of structure can be created listing taluk-> block -> pachayat etc. These can in turn be brought under something like "local adminstration in Tamil Nadu". If you look from an outside users' perspective of Tamilnadu, until we give the correct search string, these blocks/taluks cannot be retrieved since not much links to them and they were not categorized properly as well. I have categorized the blocks and can do for taluks, but i am not sure whether that fully satisfies the purpose until we have an index page. Municipality pages have more details(and have scope to expand) and i dont see a reason for them to be merged. Any unsourced or poorly sourced article anywhere in wiki is under review - Hinduism articles are no exceptions. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 21:37, 31 October 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
I'm not sure if a list under "Local administration of Tamil Nadu" is actually permitted as per Wikipedia:NOT#DIR. However, there are no specific criteria for places, though many have been suggested. So, the stubs created do not violate any of Wikipedia's extant policies. And then, you've yourself said these individual sections in the list could be expanded if more sources can be found. Considering that there are over 500 revenue blocks in TN and assuming that there is 0.5 KB of stuff on each of these blocks on the average (as you might notice, I'm making an extremely conservative estimate), this would create an unnecessary, long list with a size of over 250 KB.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 15:01, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
I think you missed this - "they can be collated as a list(not single, probably at district level) ". When 500 articles can be created, a set of index pages linking all these can't be against policies!! I checked up data for blocks, there is hardly anything to expand - my expansion point was on municipalities. I will categorize the blocks/taluks and create the index pages to link all these. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 22:35, 1 November 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
There are district templates and categories for the same purpose; so what is the need for an index page.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 02:56, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
check this Local_administrative_units_of_Romania. The concept of blocks/taluks may be very specific to India and that they belong to local administrative units of a given order is not currently avaialable. Also if we form such a table, those 500 pages can be encompassed to sth like 30-40 based on district or local classifiction S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 10:51, 3 November 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
Two pages on the revenue units - List of Revenue Divisions of Tamil Nadu and administrative units - List of Developmental administrative units of Tamil Nadu are created and expanded with Local Body in Tamil Nadu. The pages on the blocks can be taken up for deletion. Each of the block pages, at the maximum can provide the list of villages under them, which can be clubbed again into a list. The taluk pages have some scope of expansion, but most of the taluks link to town pages - so no linking to taluks is provided in the list S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 00:56, 8 November 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt

There is no Wikipedia policy which prohibits the creation of articles on places, you see. And it is your opinion that those articles do not have any scope for further expansion. There are lots of stuff that can be added - the year the block was created, list of administrators, etc. There is stuff which can be added; it is just that we don't have enough time to search for them. But there are people who might do. Now consider the article on Navenby which is an insignificant village in the UK. Are you aware that the article successfully passed an FAN and was featured on the main page. And in case you do not know, there are articles for all the 200-odd taluks in TN.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 16:43, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
These are not articles of places - they are administrative names with village/place names. The consideration of block as a village is totally wrong. Take Andanallur/Jiyapuram - it is a village in trichy and a panchayat union (block) as well. A description of Andanallur being a block can be mentioned in the village page and not viz. The point is what is the unique about these 500 odd pages - if you expand on staff/internals, it is going to be in the lines of Wikipedia:NOT#DIR. The year of creation, administrative head, list of villages under it all can be encompassed into another table. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 01:15, 16 November 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt

I don't get your point at all. You've yourself said that village != block. Then, how come can we add details on the block in an article on the village; it is a completely different entity altogether. -RaviMy Tea Kadai 02:56, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
It is the village name that is retained as the block name and villages are not equal to blocks. Block or panchayat union is a set of villages and the office of the block is located in one of them. The block is an administrative entity of an org with the name of a paticular village its limits specify. Treat it like a particular village has a bank(like SBI), while its neighbour doesnt. Are we entitled to create SBI of village A, village B etc with no worthy details differntiating them? A mention about the bank can be specified in the village A page - so goes for these blocks(given that it is located there). I think originally the articles were created thinking blocks are equal to villages - if so they are definitely candidates for deletion. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 13:01, 16 November 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt

Interesting argument! Well, branches of a bank are not notable but then, branches of the government - yes, they are, indeed, notable. You simply cannot compare administrative divisions to banks, you see. There is no article for the head office of the SBI or IOB but there is an article for Chennai :-) And they are, indeed, different. A block X might comprise of 10 villages while Y might comprise of 60 villages. X might be covered with hills while Y might be located in a flat plain. X might have been created in 1801 and Y might have been separated from block A in 2008. And as far as Wikipedia:NOT#DIR is concerned, one like List of tahsildars of Kumbakonam taluk does breach the limit, but a section "List of tahsildars" in Kumbakonam taluk, doubtful indeed.-RaviMy Tea Kadai 15:26, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
All these argument is still considering the names of these blocks as places - Chennai as a place needs to have an article - Chennai block? I have shown how these can be encompassed into List of Revenue Divisions of Tamil Nadu and administrative units - List of Developmental administrative units of Tamil Nadu and expanded with Local Body in Tamil Nadu. I have been in villages and these union offices are more like an office with one officer with a few staff and they remain closed for most of the year. The elected members of panchayat visit these offices once in a while for a montly meeting. There may be active blocks, but the function of these blocks are way too limited than panchayats even. As you mentioned the block being in a hill or a plain is never a matter - at the end it is a set of villages, the number depends on parameters. Rather than entangling in an endless argument, illustrate with one block article(with sources differentiating from the villages they are located) as to how they are different compared to others and why 500 odd pages are required. The target for TN project is to have more number of articles in better status - IMO these will remain stubs with no referenced source for expansion. (semi)Protecting Abdul Kalam article

A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has seen a spur of recent edits by anonymous users, which is mostly subtle vandalism. The first section now starts with "Kalam see the world without fear.[8]" I could not find where in the history the first paragraph that stated about his early life was removed. Then there are dubious claims about him published in Bangladesh newspapers cited and written about as truths rather than claims. POVs all around. Can it be at least semi protected under BLP? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aki 27 (talkcontribs) 15:00, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi All,

I improved the translation for Jimmy's letter 002 and 003(URL is given below) in the language Tamil and changed the status to 'proofreading'.

Can u pls proof read and publish it?

This is as per the guidelines I've got from the help desk (as in the following URL).

The above mentioned category is found to have a wrong title. If 'Ooratchi ondriyam' (ஊராட்சி ஒன்றியம்) is translated to Tamil as revenue blocks then it's going to be an error. District -> Taluks -> Revenue Villages forms the hierarchy in revenue administration. But Blocks (Developmental blocks or unions) are the panchayat units in taluk level but no way related to revenue administration, they are local bodies functioning from a different ministry. Members kindly note this and discuss it. --BabuOnWiki (talk) 04:43, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

The whole set of articles under this category needs a overhaul. The previous discussion went without any consensus. Renaming the category is a must, deletion of the whole set is also quite an option. There are around 400-500 articles that exponentially multplies the stub count of the project. These will remain stubs forever. I think originally the articles were created treating villages = blocks, but actually it is village names = block names. These will fall short of notability by all means & factually wrong as well. I support renaming the category or if possible, deleting the whole set as well.

S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 12:44, 6 December 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt

The stubs are of no use really. It is just increasing the number of pages falling in this category. Instead of these stubs, it could be mentioned in the parent page of those places. And the term revenue block is also carried to the stubs and templates. Lets form consensus and do the needy soon. --BabuOnWiki (talk) 15:57, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Strongly support deletion. If there are other thoughts, please discuss. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 23:21, 6 December 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt

"The stubs are of no use really". Well with ignorant comments like that you are no use to wikipedia either. Adminstrative divisions are most certainly notable and should be expanded asap.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:42, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

User:Sriram_mt, that those articles shall remain stubs, forever, is entirely your opinion. I hope you did not grasp what I had said before. There are well-written articles on blocks in West Bengal, like Amta I. I do not have time to expand these articles or rename those categories as I'm occupied with other work. But that does not imply that they should be deleted. There are sources - you just ought to look for them; I've suggested Google Books many times but you ignored them and kept complaining about "stubs that couldn't be expanded".-RaviMy Tea Kadai 18:46, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

There are a few things that you have been conteding all through 1)"There is no Wikipedia policy which prohibits the creation of articles on places, you see" - these are not places 2) Denotion of "revenue" 3) categorisation under "revenue blocks.." I have done a detailed search for sources - take an article like Andanallur block - 2 - this is the reference & what all we find is the mention of it. Now in the article we have incorrect details for all leaving the number of villages. So if a set of articles fail notability, factual content and categorization, what more can be proposed other than deletion. Important thing - don't get this too personal - I or for that matter none of us can target individual contributions. You not need pull folks to support you, resulting in further mudslinging - we are here as a community to support each other. If you feel I am demeaning your effort, please disregard it; I have widely expanded or used most of your stubs/reference sources - if you get discouraged, it would be a loss to the forum. You might have noticed the recent WP India results - the stub count is way too high in India compared to any other project. My effort is merely oriented towards reducing the stub count. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 00:53, 10 December 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
Dr. Blofeld,
please. I support keeping them myself. But please stop insulting people. They are both valuable editors who just happen to have a different standard of notability.

Sriram and Babu,

Please keep the discussion to renaming. If you bring in deletion, it will end up no consensus like the previous one as opinion in wikipedia about such things is always sharply divided.--Sodabottle (talk) 20:02, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

I hate comments by ignorant individuals who think they can predict the future of wikipedia with comments like "These will remain stubs forever" and "stubs are of no use". Frankly I see nothing more insulting than that to people working hard to try to improve wikipedia's coverage and are editing in good faith. Yes Revenue Blocks are small divisions and perhaps the time and effort would be best put into expanding our stubs on towns and disricts/taluks first but a truly great wikipedia would have articles on every Revenue Block and expansion must be encouraged. They can be expanded like Bhavanisagar block, even if the chances of them all being expanded like so, pretty slim. You can have your opinion on their notability but please drop the pig ignorant remarks. The biggest problem I see is that they are all orphans and are not linked within the relative district and taluk articles. That's likely the decrease the chances of them ever being expanded. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:18, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Apologies if it was an overshoot. The renaming would still keep it factually incorrect - these administrative blocks have same names as the villages they are present, but more like a branch office of an organization. I have done quite a bit of search on this topic and serialized/categorized widely - the comments were not in the air(please refer to the discussion in the previous thread where specific lists were created to illustrate how these pages can be encompassed into fewer lists). I am willing to expand this provided a set of references can be provided distinguishing the village names from the blocks. It should always be noted that we are writing more about administartive setup of a government organisation and IMO they fall notability guidelines by all means. The overall aim of the project is to have articles in better status and let us target that. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 22:58, 8 December 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
Additionally, there is always a mention of "revenue block", but blocks are not related to revenue at all. Please note block or union is a set of villages; check the references provided in the article - 3. Tamil Nadu local administration is divided into 1) revenue administration district -> revenue divivision -> taluks -> revenue villages; 2) Developmental administration a) rural Blocks -> panchayat villages b)urban Corporations, municipalities and town panchayats. The factual base of these articles is highly questionable - i leave it to the forum to decide whether a renaming or deletion is necessiated. I am not up for a blind deletion myself(and that is why discussion is initiated), but factual contents should always take precedence. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 00:42, 9 December 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
Sriram, the articles have references to show these blocks do exist at the administration level. For example, Ariyalur Block. The government calls it the same, Ariyalur Block with 37 panchayat villages that is part of the Ariyalur District. There should be no doubts as to factual accuracy of the articles. Ganeshk (talk) 02:59, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
The blocks do exist, but not 'revenue'. Check the links - they are merely stated as blocks and not "revenue blocks". Also there is a misconception that it is a geographical entity, but it is an adminstratative entity. So notability is required. We know the name of the block and which district it is in through the links - there is no link to differntiate the village name from the block names. The whole discussion is this - there is no geography involved at all. The block names are equal to village or place names resulting in all this confusion. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 04:04, 9 December 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
This link shows the list of villages in the block. It does show you that village and blocks are two different entities. Villages are geographical and blocks are administrative. Ganeshk (talk) 12:01, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Precisely my point - if you see the previous thread on the same topic, it was argued that notability for places is not rquired as these blocks were considered places. We know the name of the blocks and the villages under it - further details from the references pertain only to the villages and not these blocks. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 12:53, 9 December 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
Okay, I googled Ariyalur block hoping to find nothing on the Internet except the TN government website linking the block to the villages. To my surprise, I found this. I guess there is hope for expanding these stubs. Ganeshk (talk) 22:56, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Is the proposal to change Category:Revenue blocks of Ariyalur district to Category:Pachayat Unions of Ariyalur District as per [4]? Ganeshk (talk) 02:43, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Yes.. or merely Blocks of Ariyalur District would do. S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 04:04, 9 December 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt
Yes, Renaming is the main essence of this discussion. --BabuOnWiki (talk) 09:12, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
According to this article, they are called "community development blocks". I suggest such a renaming. The same has also been used in the case of blocks in West Bengal, as you might observe here-RaviMy Tea Kadai 18:05, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
The above link is related to agricultural community development! I've given the link above which is cited from the TN Panchayats act. I request to consider the name changes from the act which is to be used for Tamil Nadu state specifically. --BabuOnWiki (talk) 09:17, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Any consensus on this? S Sriram(talk - my page - contribs) 23:09, 12 December 2011 (UTC)ssriram_mt

Appam article inaccuracies and misquotes

Hello Everybody,

I would like to bring to this group's attention about the inaccurate information being added to Appam food page. Efforts to keep the information neutral are being negated with edits getting reverted and repeatedly overwritten by folks who seem to take narrow minded approach based on false interpretation of the facts. All information from other regions and countries are being reverted without proper explanation and contents are being saturated and monopolized by attributing everything to a particular community. I know contents of this page are not of much importance. However, as an article supported by both WikiProject Kerala and WikiProject TamilNadu, I strongly feel that it should represent facts and also be neutral as per Wikipedia guidelines.MariaJeyaraj (talk) 00:48, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Tamil Nadu to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tamil Nadu/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the Tool Labs tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 23:23, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Expert attention

This is a notice about Category:Tamil Nadu articles needing expert attention, which might be of interest to your WikiProject. It will take a while before the category is populated. Iceblock (talk) 21:03, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

This article has been tagged as a hoax, and I am considering AfD (it was dePRODded back in 2009). With this spelling, it is not found in GeoNames, Google Maps or Bing Maps, but there may be transliteration problems. Can anyone provide a reliable source for its existence? WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

2016 Community Wishlist Survey Proposal to Revive Popular Pages

Greetings WikiProject Tamil Nadu/Archive 2 Members!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.

Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Best regards, SteviethemanDelivered: 18:09, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Notice about adminship to participants at this project

Many participants here create a lot of content, may have to evaluate whether or not a subject is notable, decide if content complies with BLP policy, and much more. Well, these are just some of the skills considered at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.

So, please consider taking a look at and watchlisting this page:

You could be very helpful in evaluating potential candidates, and even finding out if you would be a suitable RfA candidate.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:40, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

2 articles about same place

Dear Wikipedians from Tamil Nadu,

I think two articles Pallapatti, Karur and Pallapatti, Virudhunagar are about same place. I am not from Tamil Nadu and thus kindly pardon me, in case I am wrong.

Popular pages report

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tamil Nadu/Archive 2/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Tamil Nadu.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

 • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
 • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
 • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Tamil Nadu, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Natana_Gopala_Nayaki_Swamigal

Just to note that Draft:Natana_Gopala_Nayaki_Swamigal has been proposed for quick deletion. I have prevented that for now, but if anyone would like to add some sources, it might prevent this in the future. I have found this source, but I am unsure of what a "Sathsangam" is, so I'm unsure of how to add it. Egaoblai (talk) 03:04, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template Transclude lead excerpt.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:57, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

WP 1.0 Bot Beta

Hello! Your WikiProject has been selected to participate in the WP 1.0 Bot rewrite beta. This means that, starting in the next few days or weeks, your assessment tables will be updated using code in the new bot, codenamed Lucky. You can read more about this change on the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team page. Thanks! audiodude (talk) 06:49, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:25, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

New Page Patrol

New Page Patrol needs experienced volunteers
 • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles, including Tamil Nadu related articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
 • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
 • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions and review our instructions page. You can apply for the user-right HERE. --John B123 (talk) 14:20, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
