Hope is precious and great joy is found in living
Thank you for the sapphire—cornflower blue is a color of some significance to me.
In the maelstrom that Wikipedia can sometimes be, remember these words from Ode to Joy:

Wem der große Wurf gelungen,
Eines Freundes Freund zu sein,
Wer ein holdes Weib errungen,
Mische seinen Jubel ein!
Ja, wer auch nur eine Seele
Sein nennt auf dem Erdenrund!
Und wer's nie gekonnt, der stehle
Weinend sich aus diesem Bund!

I don't know the best way or place to write to you to thank you. (There is a heart icon that links to a way to send appreciation, but I don't understand it.) So, this is where I am thanking you for all the work on the sources of the movements of the mass, etc. After making a few edits today, I saw the history and see all you have done to create (I think) and improve this page. ==New music files==
Hi Gerda. FYI, today I proposed adding new Bach music files at Talk:Klavierbüchlein für Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, ‎Talk:The Musical Offering, and Talk:Brandenburg Concertos. Also, regarding the article Lute Suite in E minor, BWV 996, I am mulling over whether it might be a good idea to remove the music files that are there because they are already at Lautenwerck, and also because they are very unusual, and then insert these more standard music performances:

Jsbach bwv996 01.ogg
Jsbach bwv996 02.ogg
Jsbach bwv996 03.ogg
Jsbach bwv996 04.ogg
Jsbach bwv996 05.ogg
Jsbach bwv996 06.ogg

Any feedback from you would be appreciated. Cheers.Anythingyouwant (talk) 20:21, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

re Delqual
Thanks for your helpful note !

I've posted to WP:QAIPOST.

The page functions on its own at WP:Deletion to Quality, would rather have it as a standalone independent awards page, like WP:Million Award.

However, I'm curious, what do you mean by award given by QAI ? I mean anyone can give out the WP:DELQUALITY award, just like anyone can give out WP:MILLION.

I do think it dovetails very nicely with both WP:WikiProject Quality Improvement and WP:Article Rescue Squadron, by the way. :)

&mdash; Cirt (talk) 09:29, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

: Fine, understand, I think. "Precious", the QAI award, is (now) a project award. Anyone can give it (and it has occasionally been done), but - named after one founder and designed by another - it carries personal meaning, on top of quality in general, and I don't give it to (the many) users who have shown dislike of one of them/us, however high the quality of their achievements, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:38, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
::Ah okay, makes sense. Well, I do hope that WP:DELQUAL will catch on soon, and we'll start to see it being given out and awarded by multiple editors. :) &mdash; Cirt (talk) 09:40, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
::: It's a great idea! On the page, perhaps have not so many headers, to have the list of recipients "sooner"? Pipe-link, to avoid repetition of "... for deletion"? Have user names in one line by nowrap? Have months as three letters? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:56, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
::::I just designed it straight after WP:MILLION. Yeah I really do like the idea, that of recognizing the effort our editors put in, to a page previously endangered of being deleted, to getting it to a high level of quality assessment. But yeah I can try and make some tweaks and modifications, thank you ! &mdash; Cirt (talk) 09:58, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Also, per :Category:Deletion to Quality Award candidates, I think that the "Hall of Fame" might (hopefully) get to be a pretty big long list. So probably best to move it to a subpage. &mdash; Cirt (talk) 10:00, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
::::: Just yesterday, I tried to rescue one, but am afraid David Hamilton (tenor) will not go to GA, even if kept ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:02, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
::::::Sort of outside my general topics of interest, but good luck ! &mdash; Cirt (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
::::::: (ec) The hall of Precious is long (today I remembered #1009 from a year ago), and has to be, because users normally get it only once, - the list has to be complete to check. Casliber, for example, received Precious four times, by four different people. - Interest or not, you could say that he is notable, and after the copyvio (which wasn't even mentioned) is gone, is even factual, - you can compare to the tagged version we had, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:10, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
::::::::Thank you, I've made some changes to WP:DELQUAL, based on your suggestions, above. &mdash; Cirt (talk) 10:12, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Reviewing Pasticciotto article for DYK
Hi Gerda! Thanks again for your constructive comments on the article Pasticciotto that I created and nominated for DYK. I noticed, though, that you listed the Pasticciotto article as having been reviewed by you as part of your nomination of Salve Regina (Latry). A full DYK review includes checking that an article is new enough, long enough, and complies with Wikipedia policies, especially with regard to plagiarism, as well as evaluating the hook and any image, including whether the image is licensed appropriately. Whatever you find should be stated explicitly, even if it's as simple as "no copyvio" or "image permissions OK" (areas that need improvement should have a more detailed explanation of what's wrong with them).

So, if you covered all of those areas in your look at Pasticciotto, you should state that explicitly in a comment on the Pasticciotto nomination. If not, you should either do the full review and report all your findings, or take the notation off your own nomination if you don't want to do the full review. Again, thanks for your advice about Pasticciotto, and thanks in advance if you do decide to do a complete review. —<span style="color:green;;;"><b>Grammar</b>Fascist</span> <span style="color:darkgreen;;;">contribs</span>talk 17:46, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

German Peasants' War
Hello, Gerda - How are you? I've been reading the article German Peasants' War, and I've come across a few things that need attention. I don't know whom to ask, so I thought I'd ask you.

1) At the end of the third paragraph in German Peasants' War#Lesser nobility is the following sentence:

*At odds with all other estaments in Germany, the lesser nobility was the least disposed to change.

I don't think "estaments" is an English word. I thought perhaps it should be "estimates", but that doesn't make much sense, either. It is making a distinction between the lesser nobility and all other classes, or groups, in Germany at the time. Perhaps "estates", or "classes", "groups", "sectors of society"?

2) At the end of the first paragraph in German Peasants' War#Clergy is the following sentence:

*However, Renaissance humanism was still strongly connected with the Church (and some popes) and churches, its proponents had gone to Church schools.

As you can see, there is something wrong with this sentence, but since I don't know the history, I'm not sure how to fix it.

3) Also, I'm just a little puzzled by something else. At the beginning of the section German Peasants' War#Clergy, it says:

*The clergy in 1525 were the intellectuals of their time.

Now, it is true that in the third sentence it says, "the clergy was beginning to lose its overwhelming intellectual authority", but it doesn't say the clergy were dropping to the bottom of the intellectual heap. Then we read, in the second sentence of the next paragraph, "Clerical ignorance" was "rampant". There's no indication of the passage of a great amount of time, so how did the clergy go from being "the intellectuals of their time" to being a group among whom "ignorance" was "rampant"? Corinne (talk) 14:41, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

: You are probably right, but being on vacation, it's not the first thing I will care about. How about asking project Germany? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:05, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

A well-deserved barnstar

The Barnstar of Integrity
Gerda, for your ceaseless efforts across the project to recognize and encourage civility, goodwill, and all manner of useful contributions -- and just generally to foster a collegial and warm atmosphere -- I hope you will accept this barnstar. I had considered giving you the Random Acts of Kindness star or the PumpkinSky Prize, but (unsurprisingly) I find they've already been awarded, so I've settled on this option, fresh and just as appropriate as it is. All my best. Snow talk 03:34, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The "notorious infoboxes criminal" accepts with delight! I was planning to write on Geh aus, mein Herz, und suche Freud today (my mom's favourite song on her birthday) which is about seeking joy, - now joy just comes ;) - Thank you, made my day! (I still plan to expand the article, it's not too obvious anyway that it's about actively seeking joy when you don't see any.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:45, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well, geteilte Freude ist doppelte Freude, as the old chestnut goes -- and it's always nice in particular to share it with someone who so exemplifies that perspective. But regardless of the source, I hope the day brings you more joy still.  :) Snow talk 10:47, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Non Barnstar

Barnstars are well intended but for my taste they are a little too impersonal; sort of like a store-bought greeting card versus a handwritten letter. So I am taking this opportunity to say that Wikipedia is a better place because you are here. I wish you all the best. PS: Have you ever sung Berg's Altenberg Lieder? I think maybe it is not quite your style of music but I find the pieces hauntingly beautiful, and the words are simple but profound. Short Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 03:53, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the lovely musical note! No, I didn't sing those songs, nor even know them (yet), - I like simple but profound! - Did you know that "you" are mentioned on my user page, sort of? Look for laugh ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:03, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

the blue stone

Dear Gerda, Thankyou for the anniversary message and the fanfare (that's a good article) - the stone, like the music, has a seraphic clarity and spiritual warmth. Just what one needs in these cruel months of the year. I have been reading the psalms in Latin, with St Augustine's comments, and am amazed. Also Jeremy Irons's Four Quartets (Eliot) (Radio 4 broadcast) is still reverberating - that dude is right on the vibe. So we are rather off in our own world, and loving it! ;) kind regards Eebahgum (talk) 22:08, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

thank you - reverberating Halelu-hu ... - from Jenkin's Gloria ... loving it! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:11, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Always watching

There's a few things I don't know.

Like how you know what to watch, or where.

But there's one thing I do know. If you didn't exist we'd be poorer. Much poorer.

Thanks Gerda. (everyone else can wonder, or work it out, or ask, or fail to care...).

You're still awesome. That makes me smile. And it always will. Take care.

Arbitration

I received the following two messages. My first impulse was to archive or even delete. The design of this page is influenced by Br'er Rabbit and Hafspajen, and the pompous style doesn't fit. - After thinking, though, I left them as an anchor for discussion. How could this request, declined by all who commented, grow to what we see below? I made my comments in the workshop, about a huge waste of human potential which is correctly named "ebforcement". I dream of getting rid of, replacing it by something productive which is not driven by the power (and interest) of individuals. Did you know that at present an admin who sees a clear violation is free to act? Acting meaning most often a block, a net loss for Wikipedia? - Comments best in the workshop. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:26, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

By motion, the Arbitration Committee authorises the following injunction effective immediately:

 1. The case is to be opened forthwith and entitled "Arbitration enforcement";
 2. During the case, no user who has commented about this matter on the AN page, the AE page or the Case Requests page, may take or initiate administrative action involving any of the named parties in this case.
 3. Reports of alleged breaches of (2) are to be made only by email to the Arbitration Committee, via the main contact page.

You are receiving this message because you have commented about this matter on the AN page, the AE page or the Case Requests page and are therefore restricted as specified in (2). Arbitration enforcement arbitration case opened

By motion, the committee authorises the following injunction effective immediately:

 1. The [Arbitration enforcement] case [request] is to be opened forthwith and entitled "Arbitration enforcement";
 2. During the case, no user who has commented about this matter on the AN page, the AE page or the Case Requests page, may take or initiate administrative action involving any of the named parties in this case.
 3. Reports of alleged breaches of (2) are to be made only by email to the Arbitration Committee, via the main contact page.

You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has, per the above, accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Arbitration enforcement. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Arbitration enforcement/Evidence. Please add your evidence by July 13, 2015, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Arbitration enforcement/Workshop. For a guide to the arbitration process, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Guide to arbitration. Apologies for the potential duplicate message. For the Arbitration Committee, L235 (t / c / ping in reply) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:43, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like arbitration is sitting about the unclear rules and rulings of arbitration. - I tell myself to assume good faith, but it takes a lot. The topic of yesterday's cantata is The Mote and the Beam. My statement was:

I request the committee to look at an aspect of AE that troubles me: a report without a talk to the other user before. A talk, hoping for a revert, has been done, and I suggest AE to request it if not done, before comments even begin, hoping that the user in question will revert or modify the edit in question.

The Sunday sermon in music is about mercy.

caution: dangerous thought

I was reading the case talk page when I came to realise that I'm now in risk of being blocked for having nominated a page one of the "named parties" created for deletion. Alakzi (talk) 15:31, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing would surprise me here any more (quoting myself from much earlier) but deletion proposals are probably not among the actions that might get you in trouble related to this. Speaking to me might be more dangerous ;) I borrowed the above from User talk:Kiefer.Wolfowitz, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:38, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I can't believe it how similarly we think: I fixed the end span - and didn't get an edit conflict because you had done the same thing! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:46, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
hah! Yeah, I'd not think anybody would think to block me for it, but I don't know what to think anymore. Perhaps I just need to stop thinking. Alakzi (talk) 18:17, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dammit, now I'm tempted to close it and get a ruling on whether closing a deletion discussion is inherently an "admin action".
The secretly immature part of my brain really wants to find a harmless, trivial way to violate an overly broad restriction implemented in response to a harmless, trivial violation of an overly broad restriction. Opabinia regalis (talk) 19:21, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You'd not want to put an end to our pursuit for objective truth though, would you? Alakzi (talk) 20:52, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I coined "petty restriction" in 2012, - before I even knew what arbcom means, - about the time when I put Reformation on my user page, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:06, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
... reading there - amused: "Not impressed with the rhetoric. Accessibility is a core WMF priority and many existing visible styles are really poor." - Didn't change much in three years. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:10, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Am I the only one who finds it funny that the admin corps are suddenly offended by ArbCom? It's all good when ArbCom rip into the common folk, but God forbid they send our admins a stern message. Alakzi (talk) 21:47, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am not there often, but it seems rare that a sitting arb is a party. I tried to talk to her, but she has obviously other concerns. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:56, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If I didn't know better, I'd think imposing an unreasonable restriction on a group containing advocates of very strict interpretations of unreasonable restrictions was a clever accelerationist move. But all the kvetching about how the wording on the notice was less than greeting-card friendly is pretty funny. Opabinia regalis (talk) 09:06, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You manage to cheer me up, you two, - welcome to my talk, Opabinia regalis! Alakzi recently joined the cabal of the outcasts, DYK? The term "outcasts" was featured on this talk in 2013, connected to a woman who was an alleged witch, pardoned 300 years after her trial, good company ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:35, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Ha. There is a cabal of people not in the cabal. Opabinia regalis (talk) 09:06, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Some people are in the cabal without signing up, such as Alakzi (before) and you, - what you do makes you part of it, as I hope you don't mind ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:31, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

From the southwest tip, outside, no internet in the room ;) - Thanks for the inspiring images and a GA! - I would like to see the article with an infobox that mentions the things Bach mentioned on the title page (see talk) and a recording table with the Alakzi colours (see GA review). Heading in, getting cool in the breeze from the sea, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:09, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So hope everything is "tip top" with you. :) Martinevans123 (talk) 19:15, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I go by Ermutigung (memorable DYK, DYK?) - Work on my wishes, to go for tip-top ;) - As in fairy tales you always have three wishes, there's Verdi also. For background on the Alakzi colours and other ways to improve articles, go see and feed WP:QAIPOST where I mentioned Sinatra, but only for image size thoughts --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:07, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
 • Yes, Gerda, you simply must be in the pink, now or very soon. We cannot carry on without you. Wishing you all the best, with abundant good music. Have a very blessed vacation in Portugal. I hope it's a lovely visit. Softlavender (talk) 09:18, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
 • Please be well and I wish you all the necessary strength from any available God to get there. Portugal can be a bit rainy this time of year, but it's a lovely friendly country, especially if you are able to get away from the big cities, and great if you enjoy eating fish. Also those little egg custard "flan" things they serve you with your morning coffee in the bars in Lisbon. Of course, there are people who will tell you there's more to life than food. Which is probably true, but I don't think the great JSB ever made it to Portugal. But Portugal has plenty of art, history and culture of its own. I remember being rather taken with Evora. • Just noticed this... you'll be in the thoughts and prayers of the Khazar family as well! Feel better. -- Khazar2 (talk) 13:01, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
 • I wish that you will restore soon, so that we can take again advantage of your appreciated expertise. You know that I am a medical doctor. Do not hesitate to contact me be e-mail. Best regards, Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 14:40, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

re GA reviews

I saw you mentioning GA reviews. Some open ones are are at WP:QAIPOST, which is also a forum of free speech ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:42, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the note, Gerda Arendt, and for your interest in Freedom of speech !!! But perhaps as you can see from above on my user talk page, I've got enough reviewing on my plate at the moment. :) — Cirt (talk) 10:45, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My note was much more general: look there anytime and post anytime. For immediate action, I find other ways ;) + see above what really matters, vacation for example, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:54, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Some baklava for you!

Good to see ya! Don't know how much I'll be back for, but hope to pitch in at least a bit. I think doing only one article a time and no longer keeping a watchlist may be a recipe against wiki-burnout. But it's great to see that you're still spreading wikilove from one corner of the 'pedia to the other. Your efforts here are always appreciated! -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:59, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Happy to see ya! One corner is the cabal of the outcasts, where I created a template today, will do a few more such as popcorn ;) - If you want to post anything related to improvement of articles, such as don't block content creators, feel free to add to WP:QAIPOST. - I like to receive fresh baklava, that might be another idea! I kept your last one under "blushing" (above) where I look when I need refreshment. Facing the natural pools (left) in gentle rain, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:49, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
ps: if you still do GA reviews, open ones are also found on our POST page, Schmücke dich is an especially lovely topic, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:52, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
For you, I'd love to. It may be a few days before I can post a review but I'll claim it right now. -- Khazar2 (talk) 17:01, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Lovely, and no rush. It was written for the 20th Sunday after Trinity Sunday, which was on 18 October, and appeared on DYK anyway before. I had Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir, BWV 38 appearing right on time yesterday as a new GA, but was not happy with the quality, see its talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:13, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, welcome back Khazar2 - I have a couple of GAs in the pile if you want to have a look. Gerda, I really should make a point of improving Sophie Wilson and Carol Kaye to GA - I think both are total and utter geniuses who deserve far more recognition than they really have, although Wilson appearing in the Science Museum and Kaye appearing in the Wrecking Crew movie, that may change. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:08, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Ritchie. Good to see you too. I'm not sure how actively I'll get into GA reviewing again but you will definitely be on the "for old time's sake" list. Glad to see you're still producing awesome articles. -- Khazar2 (talk) 17:18, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele, BWV 180 you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period.
