Georgi Manev

Dear Materialscientist, In December 2020 I addited smtg about Dr. G. Manev, but I do not remember what exactly by now. I assure you, it was not a prank or vandalism. No, I do not have references. Can you remind me?

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Georgi Manev, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 16:08, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi I'm not a professional with editing Wikipedia, however I noticed the reverted edits you made to Drayton Manor Theme Park. I'm not sure how to provide my source, though everything I added was either just additional content to inform people, and one was an update as a ride has recently been closed. Please could you tell me how to cite my sources so my edits can be restored?

Thank you hello, I just wanted to tell you that the Cleveland daily Banner, is actually a three day weekly newspaper. They couldn't afford to be daily anymore. Can please stop undoing the edit, and leave it up to people that live in Cleveland. Thanks.

External links

Hi Materialscientist,

I understand that you want to limit the external links in wikipedia.

But in the "CAD data exchange" page we can see several external links to commercial web sites in the "Third-party translators" section. So I still don't understand why you forbid a link to a non-commercial website developed to provide information to people. Of course, we could copy the content of this website into wikipedia, but it would be a waste of time.

And what about having this link in an "External links" section ?

Editor not blocked, despite your notice

Hi Materialscientist
Yesterday you added a notice at Abdullahmumtazahsan stating "This account is a sockpuppet of Mumtazabdullahahsan1 .... and it has been blocked indefinitely."
However, as shown in their block log, you did not actually indef them, and now that the 31 hour block imposed by Bishonen earlier has expired, they have started editing again.
Could I please ask you to impose the indef block, as per your notice - thank you - Arjayay (talk) 15:25, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Materialscientist. The page on Inayat Khan is disorganized and contains inaccurate information. The changes I intend to make are all borne out by published sources, and I am fully prepared to provide additional citations as needed. Inayat Khan's paternal ancestors were Turkmen rather than, as the article incorrectly states, Pashtun. The article cites the dissertation "A Hybrid Sufi Order..." but there is no mention of Pashtun ancestry on the cited page or anywhere in the dissertation. On the contrary, as confirmed in the book "A Pearl in Wine: Essays, on the Life, Music, and Sufism of Hazrat Inayat Khan," edited by Pir Zia Inayat-Khan (New Lebanon, NY: Omega Publications, 2001), pp. 57-58, the paternal ancestors of Inayat Khan were "Turkestani" yuzkhans and bakshis. My correction of the titles attributable to Inayat Khan is likewise supported by this published account. There is no published (or indeed non-published) evidence for Pashtun ancestry. My edits are not vandalism and I wish to continue. Please kindly explain your objections or withdraw them. Thank you. Sincerely, Mirmughal

Slightly puzzled...

Just found this message from you dated Nov last year (2020) - puzzled because although I made a few wikipedia edits probably nearly 10 years ago now I certainly haven't made any since then and certainly none on Johnny Hallyday's page!

Information icon Hello, I'm Materialscientist. (talk page stalker) Just to save Materialscientist who may not be online - you're editing from an IP address so contributions made are not necessarily unique to you. A look at the contributions from that address here shows that it has been used sporadically by somebody, including an edit on Johnny Hallyday here which is the reason for MS's response. There is the standard response here - if you create a userid you won't have to worry about this sort of thing happening, and second, if it wasn't you, don't worry about it. There don't seem to be any edits on this IP address from nearly 10 years ago, so I suspect you're on a dynamic IP address and it was different then - and may change again. Hi User:Materialscientist

Apologies for not providing an edit summary, the reasons for the removal of contend on the above page are cited on the Article for Deletion discussion page - what I removed was basically unencyclopedic content with NPOV issues that was unrelated to what the article is supposed to be about. One of the (many) issues with that article is a drift in focus from a psychological concept to the minutiae of a certain subculture.

Unexplained deletions

I added a couple of sections to the talk page for caryophyllene. I worked hard on these talk sections. I don't know where they went or why. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. And I've been making contributions to Wikipedia for 9+ years. My understanding of talk pages is that they're for talking and need not be as polished as the articles. These sections were important. They concerned

Medical uses of caryophyellene (per PubMed)
The hazards of pure 100% caryophyllene (per NOAA and PubChem)

If the deletions were accidental, I want them restored. And if deliberate, I would appreciate an explanation. In this case, I want access to the material that I wrote. For example, instead of just destroying stuff, moving it to my personal talk page would be nice, just sayin'.

Deleted Material

I received your message on my recent edits to the National Guard Bureau page. Specifically you reverted my changes and left the following note:

"Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to National Guard Bureau—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks."

The page currently lists multiple issues with the article version to which you reverted: "This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. The specific problem is: last section just dies, there is nothing bringing this article to the present even the lede mentions the major changes during the Global War on Terror, there is no reference in the article to the transition to a full position on the Joint Chiefs - the article essentially ends in 1998 (April 2014) This article needs additional citations for verification. (March 2007)")

I would appreciating an explanation of why addressing the specific issues cited with the page (notably adding sections on the Global War on Terror, transitions to the full position on the Joint Chiefs, and including 26 additional citations) "do not appear constructive" and have my edits restored, as they represent nearly three weeks of intensive research and revision. URGENT - unsubstantiated and defamatory claims made in revised article

Hi, I noticed that you reverted a change made on a development project run by a charity I work with at present. Unfortunately, a former volunteer on the project who was unhappy with his dismissal (with two weeks notice as agreed in the volunteer contract) stemming from performance issues and an unwillingness to work as part of a team, decided to smear the name of the founder. None of the citations he provided are connected in any way to the accusations made. We have an entire team willing to vouch for the founder and the falseness of the claims. Please allow me to make the changes as it is utterly inappropriate for them to be made against a school with children and a thriving development project which we hope to expand. If you have any questions please contact me innagh@gmail.com

Sorry, I have no slightest idea what are you writing about, as your message gives very few hints to the actual Wikipedia article, editors and content. Materialscientist (talk) 14:24, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

LGBTQ+

Hi Materialscientist, MorganLoys here. I noted you reverted LGBTQ+ back to LGBT in this edit because you felt it did not appear constructive. The reason I updated is that LGBT is generally considered outdated and not inclusive of the whole community that this post about community-based marketing relates to. I feel that while it is a minor edit, it is constructive as it gives the page greater authority. MorganLoys (talk) 13:34, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edits absolutely NOT inappropriate

This is an encyclopedia. It intended to provide accuraqte and complete knowledge of the subjects covered.

To do so, one must look at a topic from all perspectives, both those that cast a positive "politically correct" light on the subject, and those that convey an equally true yet not quite as flattering reality of the topic at hand.

There is no denying that the subject of the link in question is very much a part of "ladyboy culture". This may not be the progressive ideal one might aspire to achieve for this subculture, however as it stands, historically and in present, that is very much a reality of the ladyboy subculture.

To omit and censor out such facts and details would be to deprive the reader with a complete global perspective of the topic they are researching. Therefore, what is inappropriate is the overzealous censorship you took it upon yourself to thoughtlessly partake in this morning - clearly without taking a moment's time to consider what it is that you were doing, ad it took place seconds after it was posted.

What you are doing is against the spirit of free encyclopedic facual knowledge - you are censoring history and present day fact and writing your own version of facts (which are not facts, by the way).

I'm fairly certain thatis the exact OPPOSITE of the mission of Wikipedia

(talk page watcher) Ronnie Hokanson, we generally don't include links to external sites inline, which is likely why Materialscientist reverted your edit – this has nothing to do with censorship. If a site has value as a source, it should be cited inline – otherwise, they should usually be omitted (see the first link). Best, Blablubbs|talk 20:25, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Blablubbs Ordinarily I would be inclined to agreewith you and accept that as a likelihood, however the specific message I received specifically stated that they "feel the url submitted was inappropriate for an encyclopedia" - a verbatim quote that gives little merit to nuances in editing and absolutely screams personal opinion and censorship. Nice attempt at a save though
Ronnie Hokanson, you got me curious, so I clicked the link. It's literally a porn site. So no, it isn't appropriate for an encyclopaedia. Blablubbs|talk 20:41, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Again with the assumptions...

Not sure where you got this hairbrained idea, but I DO NOT OWN NOR AM I AFFILIATED WITH THE SITE THAT I LINKED TO - that was in no way shape or form a promotion that I would in any way benefit from - it is a link that sheds further light on a FACTUAL aspect of the life and culture of a ladyboy - whether you like it or not.. You really need to have your privileges removed, you are doing this page and anyone looking for accurate information on anything for that matter, a HUGE disservice

User:Judgement1

Hi, I wonder if you might be being a bit harsh on User:Judgement1. They are a newbie, and when making longer edits seem to have problems editing without trampling across existing formatting. They also need to understand the need to source their additional information. However, I think they are clearly editing in good faith, e.g. this edit, one you reverted, was an entirely correct emendation of a typo on my part. (Btw, congratulations on all those thanks! That is very cool!) Dsp13 (talk) 01:11, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Socionics

Hello, I'm a new user and made a mistake, thanks for the reversion.

I have a question and would like to ask for you help in those matters. After your reversion I moved the information that was not factual but declarative, that is, a non-evidence based opinion, to the propper "Criticism" section, where specific views on the theory can be discussed. However User MrOllie reverted it back to the missinformative version without giving any reason, and pointed out my edit was "disruptive". Why is that unverified, disinformative version the offical one? If something is not factual, why should it be declared as such in an article?

You really are something else.

You write this:

wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Hadj Mohammed Mesfewi—because it did not appear constructive.

I spend nearly an hour trying to improve the article using news reports from 1906 and you just revert me because they didn't appear to be "constructive". Did you bother to read the references yourself? Of course not. You're the one who is never constructive. Everything I wrote is referenced in those news reports.

I am fed up with this. Is it some kind of goal to put off any new contributors to his site? Every edit I make now, comes with the question is it worth it? Will it be an hour of my time wasted because it will get reverted by the likes of you?

Your unpleasantness deserves to be thoroughly investigated at an RF because your reversion edits go way beyond what is constructive or considered someone with a healthy mental attitude!81.141.59.72 (talk) 14:00, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Per WP:ROLLBACKUSE, there was absolutely no reason to rollback on Gary Rowett, where I had in fact added SEVEN references, including one about his retirement. Frederik Paulsen Jr

Hello Materialscientist

You reverted the edit (my very first in fact) saying that it was unsourced. Apologies - I thought I'd give editing a go before creating an account and getting into it as a hobby. I am aware of Paulsen's polar exploration and simply felt that that was interesting enough to be in the introduction, which I thought was rather dull. The point I mentioned was supported by citations later in the article. But if this is not appropriate, so be it. I thought that I'd made it more interesting, even though I was not adding anything to the fact base. Anyway, editing seems far more complicated than I had realised so I may not get involved. The Borderlands film

You reverted my addition describing the characters of the film as "members of a Catholic investigative team called 'The Congregation'" and have accused me of 'disruptive editing'. Please explain why. The change is based clearly on information provided in the film, and serves to amplify the background of the characters and the premise of the movie. I have been editing on Wikipedia for 10+ years. Thank you.

(talk page stalker) If I may, your additions are not "essential" - that they are members of a Catholic team is already evident when its said later in the sentence that they are sent by the Vatican. In any case, plot summaries should always seek to be rather short and not too verbose - shorter is better because it allows painting a broader and more informative picture without getting stuck in little details such as what the team is called. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 22:01, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I take your point about plot summaries being concise, however, I don't agree that my addition amounted to 'disruptive editing', which would involve providing false or misleading information. I did not do that. However, I will refrain from editing this page any further.

The Very Things

Thank you for your message about reverting changes I made to The Very Things page. However, there are many inaccuracies and some misspellings on the page. I am Robin Dallaway, founder member of The Very Things (and The Cravats) and would like the page to be accurate about our history, especially since I am now working under The Very Things name once again, having just recorded a new album. I am a newcomer to Wikipedia, so forgive me any inappropriate action, but as a primary source (myself) do I need citation for my additions? If you believe I do, I'd be grateful for any advice as to how to proceed. I would like to add substantially to the page and bring it up to date. RR Dallaway (talk) 13:25, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker)@RR Dallaway: As a primary source you should abstain from writing on yourself or matters closely associated with you (see WP:COI). In any case, the fact is that, on the internet, anybody could claim to be anybody (you will surely understand that it is not possible to simply take your word for it - if you are indeed who you claim to be and you would like to further edit the Conflict-of-interest article then you should probably file a ticket with WP:OTRS). To avoid this issue, and also since personal anecdotes can be inaccurate, it is best if the information you add can be sourced to a reliable, (ideally independent from the band), already published source (such as coverage in news reporting outlets). Looking up in online databases, International Watchman, Inc. barely exists. It has an ancient website that doesn't work anymore built for the year 2006. Additionally a different company has the trademark for "NATO STRAP". This is in addition to the fact that there's a lot of NATOs out there ranging from the National Association of Theater Owners, National Association of Tobacco Outlets, and mostly notably the North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries. Regardless, even things which are copyrighted trademarks (like company names and products) we're still allowed to talk about them. Just mentioning "<Whatever Product>™" isn't a copyright violation. It's more likely to be an advert than that. Anyway hatting, xsigning, and disregarding further. ~Gwennie🐈💬 📋22:28, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adding context to Washington, Louisiana entry

Hi Materialscientist: You reverted my recent edit to Washington, Louisiana and I think it was appropriate. What was previously there:

In The Civil War in Louisiana, historian John D. Winters described the city as "squalid and dirty...[with] filth, ugly buildings, and its large number of black inhabitants."

This is a clearly racist statement, attributing the town's squalidness and dirtiness to its black residents, and it is presented without any context. The context is that John D. Winters was, in fact, very racist — even among his (generally quite racist) fellow Dunning school Southern historians of the early to mid 20th century. See his own entry:

Winters' work has been criticized for reflecting white racial bias toward slaves of historians of the early 20th century, particularly followers of the Dunning School. In a review of historiography of the war and historians' treatment of blacks in the South, Clarence L. Mohr of the University of Georgia wrote in 1974 of The Civil War in Louisiana that Winters treated blacks "in a more insensitive manner than many earlier studies"... Winters' discussions, however, are characterized by frequent mentions of the "Negro problem," allusions to sexual indiscretions by 'colored wenches' and attempts by Union soldiers to "lure" slaves away from their masters...The author's perspective is further revealed in his description of black conduct in areas occupied and later evacuated by Federal troops during General Nathaniel P. Banks' Red River expedition in 1863. "Some [Negroes]" writes Winters, "refused to work and were shot; some were soundly thrashed; and all of them began to act better."

If we're going to quote him attributing Washington's squalor to its "large number of black inhabitants," it is thoroughly appropriate to note his bias in the matter. Otherwise, the quote does more harm than good. 2601:19C:4680:EFB0:7C42:E3BC:F31D:31AA (talk) 02:54, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I simply tried to correct a name that had been wrong for years.

Materialscientist, you have reverted my tiresome 1 h and 26 min work that I stayed up late to fix, may I ask why? Kinopio-kun is the proper name for Toad, a character of the Mario franchise. I made sure to check my spelling for each of them, and also corrected Toadette into Kinopio-chan. Mario was made in Japan, and I believe that people should stop using a false name given to him. My edit was only for educational purposes only, which you had reversed. I later found out that one of the file names had been meddled with (completely by accident, by the way) and I fixed it immediately. My 31 hour ban has been lifted, yet I still can't edit the specific page. Is this of your doing? From all of the information given to me, my fixes is not any acts of vandalism. Perhaps you can tell me what to do about this?

Don Omar vandal, possibly

Hi Materialscientist.

I'm back with the same problem but if you would prefer I to take this to SPI, please tell me as I don't want to bog you down with trivial BS. I'm pretty sure the next reiteration of said problematic user is back, this time with a new registered identity, Drells and is making the usual edits to Don Omar related articles, editing sales of albums etc. They are attempting to source some edits but these are to either unreliable websites or the source just 404's. Also, gauging from edit summaries, this person, like all before them (as well as this new account), are probably French Spanish speaking. Could I once again ask you to take a look or would you prefer this taken to SPI? Robvanvee 08:05, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On the other hand, after months of persistent vandalism, perhaps I'm just being paranoid. As such, I'd value your input. Robvanvee 08:55, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request Resolved

Changes no longer needed. I do not know how to delete this (I am new to Wikipedia) so please remove it yourself if you can. Thank you. Chaos Gentleman (talk) 17:53, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Chaos Gentleman: Please be aware of conflict of interest and policies about concerted efforts by outside groups. I've given you some relevant links on your talk page. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 16:58, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

IP vandalism

Materialscientist, the IP currently known as 2a02:c7f:1423:f000:f8b5:3e5b:2af7:eb0d vandalized 15 articles over a period of about two and a half hours, starting at 18:40 yesterday. While I was cleaning them up, I realized that one of the articles, Let's Sing and Dance, had been vandalized over a period of a few months by various IPs, and one of them was the similarly named 2a02:c7f:14f5:7f00:a126:6ccf:4b30:a5f8 two months earlier; those edits were still current. Both addresses frequently use the fake edit summary "Added links".

What I'm hoping is that you can block whoever it is for a significant period to prevent this kind of damage—they're clearly not here to build an encyclopedia. Thanks for anything you can do. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:41, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
