'''Implement "backlinking" for references?'''
On long pages there can be many links to references. Sometimes, there are several places in the text body which refer to the same reference. Occasionally, I want to find all places in the body which point to a particular reference. Is this of sufficient interest to others? Could it be implemented automatically?

Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)
    • For other types of questions, use the search box, see the reference desk or Help:Contents. If you have comments about a specific article, use that article's talk page.
    • Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only.
    • If your question is about a Wikipedia article, draft article, or other page on Wikipedia, tell us what it is!
    • Check back on this page to see if your question has been answered.
    • For real-time help, use our IRC help channel, #wikipedia-en-help.
    • New editors may prefer the Teahouse, a help area for beginners (but please don't ask in both places).

    Approval

Hi! How can I monitor the approval status of a re-submission? Thanks!— Preceding unsigned comment added by TAH0916 (talkcontribs)

Hello @TAH0916: and welcome to the Help desk. As before, you will be notified on your user talkpage when your submission is reviewed, no matter what the outcome is. You can also add the submission to your watchlist. You have to regularely check your watchlist though. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) Victor Schmidt (talk) 04:32, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
TAH0916, you can check the submission template where it says "Improving your odds of a speedy review", that can help. However, Draft:Van Romaine, your WP:BLP, (read that page if you haven't) largely lacks inline references, and will probably be declined unless you fix that. If you can't ref it, don't include it, WP:ISAWIT is no good. Also check WP:PEACOCK. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:06, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Senior Users using Online Tools to Verify Articles

Many users hereby are using free online tools to identify the authenticity or verifiability of the articles which I believe therefore, I request the team to please have a look at these users and try to curb this as sometimes these online tools might not be able to verify which links or citations are apt or which are not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ritwik909190 (talkcontribs) 04:51, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

These tools sound useful. Can you provide a list?
More seriously – if you want someone to respond to your request, you'll need to provide at least one example of the behaviour you complain of. Otherwise, it's hard for anyone to know what it is you want. Maproom (talk) 07:41, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    @Ritwik909190: If you're talking about Draft:Vikas Rawat, you've misunderstood what's going on.
Users are going to that draft and seeing that:
-There are not enough sources to meet our general notability guideline
    -The sources are not independent
-The sources do not mention Vikas Rawat!
They are then using a tool to leave you a message. That message tells you what you need to do to fix the draft. If you read it and followed the instructions, you'd know what the problem is. Ian.thomson (talk) 07:48, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Eid al-Fitr

I stumbled upon a cry for help that was made only minutes ago. If you read the first paragraph of this article, sandwiched in is “I need help” the page was last edited minutes ago. I’m not tech savvy , nor am I sure even if I were that I could figure anything out about who needs help, but perhaps someone at Wikipedia can trace the IP address or something. Please try. My prayers to the poor soul.

List of pages that use a particular template

Is it possible to get a list of all pages on which a particular template is used? TheMrP (talk) 07:12, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

TheMrP I think so. Go to for example Template:Citation needed and choose the "What links here" link on the left. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:22, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@TheMrP: Click "Hide links" and "Hide redirects" to hide pages which only link to or redirect to the template. You can also use hastemplate: in the search box, e.g. hastemplate:"Citation needed" This can be combined with other search options. Only mainspace (articles) are searched by default. Click "Search in" on the results page to choose all or other namespaces. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:33, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Wikipedia Page Disappeared

The Wikipedia page about website buildtheenterprise.org disappeared. The buildtheenterprise.org website went off-line for a while, and perhaps that triggered Wikipedia software to automatically take down the Wikipedia page. But that is only a guess.

Please restore the Wikipedia page about website buildtheenterprise.org.— Preceding unsigned comment added by SpaceWork7 (talkcontribs)

SpaceWork7 I know of nothing that "automatically" takes down articles; Wikipedia isn't built that way. Build the Enterprise was deleted per the result of this deletion discussion. 331dot (talk) 16:15, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to what 331dot said above, there appears to still exist auserspace draft at User:Marcooooos/Build the Enterprise. Perhaps if you think the concerns expressed in the deletion discussion can be addressed by editing, you can use that draft as a launch point. That said, I would recommend taking any revised article through articles for creation to ensure someone neutral agrees that the concerns from the prior AFD have been sufficiently addressed before moving a revised article back to mainspace. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:23, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That draft is now gone, deleted as promotional. Drmies (talk) 16:53, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) yeah, this is too vague to really be answerable. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:35, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reading your answers I realized that there are no prejudices to Wikipedians that have been blocked. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr Salvus (talkcontribs) 17:45, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dr Salvus. Reading your question and your answer, I'm guessing that you mean "Are there any formal or procedural limitation imposed on editors who have been blocked?" We don't use "prejudice" in this way in English,so your question was not understood. The only likely meaning of "have prejudices" is "hold judgmental attitudes towards somebody or something". --ColinFine (talk) 19:01, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How long does it take to complete the WP: CVUA? Dr Salvus 18:31, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dr Salvus: It depends on each instructor and student, could be a few weeks or a few months, but one of the most important things is that there is no rush—you learn the concepts most effectively when you take the time to carefully go through each exercise and make sure you really understand everything that's going on. If someone races through CVUA just so they can say that they've completed the program, it defeats the purpose. DanCherek (talk) 18:54, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@NZFC: According to Wikipedia:User_access_levels#Template_editor only 194 users have the template editor user right, so it may take some time before your request is answered. There are several requests older than yours, so you are not the only one waiting. Please be patient. RudolfRed (talk) 20:20, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Cannot edit/Create

Hello, I am sorry that when i'm sending this it's a bit late. I just am a bit confused. When I wanted to write a new page it wouldn't let me because it says it's blocked but no one else edits on it or adds content on it because it doesn't exist yet. I hope you are all right and can figure out something about my problem 👍

Yours sincerely , Me 😉😃 — Preceding unsigned comment added by AnonymousMeh (talkcontribs) 21:20, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, AnonymousMeh. "Write a new page" might mean different things. If you mean "Create a new Wikipedia article" then you are allowed to do so, but, as a new user, not directly: you should use the articles for creation process to create a draft, which you can work on and eventually submit for review. However, creating a new page is one of the hardest tasks there is for an inexperienced editor - I liken it to trying to perform a violin concerto after your first violin lesson. I always advise new editors to spend a few months improving existing articles that interest them, and learning how Wikipedia works, before attempting that daunting task.
On the other hand, if you mean you want to create a WP:user page for yourself, you're free to do so, as long as you put only acceptable material on it (see the link I just gave). A user page is for sharing information about you as a Wikipedia editor: it is not part of the encyclopaedia proper. Happy editing! --ColinFine (talk) 21:47, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AnonymousMeh: Looking at your user rights groups, I assume you are talking about creating a new article. Although you've made more than 10 edits, your account is less than four days old, so you are not autoconfirmed. I suggest following the links that ColinFine has posted in the first paragraph. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 23:21, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
AnonymousMeh, if you are wanting to write about the youtuber named "bionic", you should first determine whether they are WP:NOTABLE. Without notability, a subject isn't suitable for a Wikipedia article. Here is a good place to start reading about Wikipedia and youtubers.--Quisqualis (talk) 03:32, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Is speedy deleting drafts allowed?

I recently came across Draft:Civilization Reborn II: Discord Sever History. Now it is clear this draft doesn't have a snowball's chance in Hell of belonging to Wikipedia and the author has mistaken Wikipedia for a personal blog. Is it allowed to speedy delete such misguided drafts on sight, or do I have to go through some process? JIP | Talk 21:39, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

JIP You may nominate for speedy deletion any page is that you think meets at least one of the speedy deletion criteria. Note that drafts are automatically nominated for deletion after six months of inactivity. 331dot (talk) 21:42, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't feel the need ... the need for speed, since a draft isn't readily accessible to the general public anyway, but WP:Drafts#Speedy deletion says yes. To me, it's faster just to reject the draft. Clarityfiend (talk) 02:34, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dr Salvus You don't need to be formally trained to counter vandalism; a good place to start learning about it is WP:VANDALISM. 331dot (talk) 06:49, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Terence Anthony

    Terry Anthony (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Good morning,

My name is Terrence Anthony and I am writing you about the page associated with my name. Although the information is correct that is not a picture of me. I am a African American male, the picture you have associated with my name is a white male teammate of mine named David Palmer. Please make a correction with a new picture and thank you for even recognizing my accomplishments. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:9001:1E02:D075:B4DF:595E:747D:26A8 (talk) 13:13, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    • Note A google search for Terrence Anthony has an image of a black man. The image in our article was uploaded from here where the photographer states that it is Anthony. Could possibly be an error on the part of the photographer. Eagleash (talk) 13:26, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • I agree - I've just performed a Google search, and found two photographs labelled Terry Anthony, both showing the same black man. There is also a YouTube clip (which I won't link to since the copyright to the video isn't clear, but search 'Seminole Moment: Peter Tom Willis' 62-Yard TD Pass to Terry Anthony vs. Florida (1989)'), again showing a black man receiving the ball. On the balance of probability this seems to be a mistake in the name attached to the photograph - I'm going to remove it from the article. GirthSummit (blether) 13:33, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • IP/Terrence Anthony, if you want to contribute an image for WP to use, that may be good.
    However.
WP takes copyright very seriously, and any picture of you already on the web somewhere is almost certainly under some sort of copyright.
So, if you want to "donate" a picture, this is the recommendation:
Choose one you have taken yourself but not published anywhere already. Then upload it with the process that starts HERE. If someone else took the pic, they should upload it. That is a link to Commons, a sister-site to WP where we keep free images. Perhaps name it Terry Anthony 2021 or something like that. It can then be added to the article. How do i create a company page for my company?

I have been finding it difficult to create a company page for my company, Please i need your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lobon1 (talkcontribs) 14:44, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lobon1 The very short answer is- don't. Wikipedia does not have "company pages". It has articles, typically written by independent editors. Those articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a company, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable company. Wikipedia has no interest in what a company wants to say about itself, you may do that on social media or your website.
Please review conflict of interest and paid editing for information on required formal disclosures you must make. 331dot (talk) 15:28, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I attempted to add a blog I wrote about the Volkswagen Corrado page:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Corrado#References

Unfortunately when I tried to add a link to the list of works, I may have deleted all of the nine (9) works previously listed - the URL I wanted to add would have been the tenth (10):

    https://amazingheights.blog/happy-30th-to-volkswagens-first-true-sports-car-the-corrado/

I wanted to include the write-up at the bottom of the REVIEWS section:

In 2020, author/blogger Seth Ulinski published a piece to commemorate the Corrado's 30th anniversary of being launched in the United States. In the article, he estimates 1,500-2,000 Corrados are still on the road in the United States.

Is it possible for the team to help?

    1. Click on the "view history" tab at the top of the article (you will see a list of edits, in chronological order; yours will be at the top, under your name)
    2. Click on the date field of the edit just below your version
    3. Click on the "[restore this version]" field that appears near the top left
    4. A field comes up asking why, just type in "mistake" or whatever and click OK Herostratus (talk) 22:52, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Brijeshkumar.in: First off, you need to declare your paid affiliation with Aavas Financiers Limited on your user page. You may use {{paid}} to do so. Hello, Brijeshkumar.in. The article was moved to draft space a week ago, with the comment "MrsSnoozyTurtle moved page Aavas Financiers to Draft:Aavas Financiers: Corporate article with referencing and POV concerns, incubate in draftspace". The problems MrsSnoozyTurtle identified are mentioned at the top, with link to pages explaining them; once you have made the necessary declarations as mentioned by Tenryuu, you may address these issues and submit the draft for review. Please not that it is not and never will be "your page": it is Wikipedia's article about your company, and it does not belong to you and is not controlled by you. --ColinFine (talk) 12:42, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am writing to you on behalf of my leadman Schobert Norbert (at Norbi Update® Low Carb Inc. Hungary) We are eager to how to create new english content for wikipedia.org. We are asking your contribution because we planned to update the hungarian Wikipedia article about Schobert Norbert (https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schobert_Norbert) who is a well known hungarian businessman and celebrity, but the admins refused to cooperate. We were ready to provide proof that Norbi himself was our source, but this was not considered authentic enough by the site and our request was denied. Is it possible to create new, non - localized but translated (english) and extended content for Norbert on wikipedia.org? If it's possible could you please provide me the details on how to create english content for Norbert? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Norbi1971 (talkcontribs) 12:13, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Norbi1971: It appears that you are a Paid Editor. Under English Wikipedia Policy, paid editing constitutes a conflict of interest and is highly discouraged. Wikipedia is also not a soapbox or means of promotion. Please disclose your status as a paid editor per WP:DISCLOSE. Padgriffin Griffin's Nest 12:23, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Norbi1971, like many people, you are mistaking Wikipedia for a promotion outlet. If at some time English Wikipedia has an article about Norbert, the article will not belong to Norbert, will not be controlled by Norbert, will be able to be edited by nearly anybody in the world except Norbert and his associates, and should be based nearly 100% on what people unconnected with Norbert have published about him. I'm not surprised the Hungarian admins rejected your submission, because Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources. --ColinFine (talk) 12:55, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to list my startup page

Hello, I want my startup page to be published on wikipedia. Please help me with this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.139.232.214 (talk)

Wikipedia is not a place for companies, be it "startups" or otherwise, to tell the world about themselves or enhance their search results. "Startups" rarely meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization. You should also review conflict of interest and paid editing for information on required formal declarations. 331dot (talk) 12:32, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Deletion request

I am in the process of nominating the article on Ana Vives Casas for deletion. I think I must be doing something wrong, for it has not come up at Wikipedia: Articles for deletion. Does any one have any advice on how I can nominate an article for deletion successfully? Many thanks, Rollo August (talk) 16:54, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully someone here can fix that for you. For the future, I recommend starting afd:s with WP:TWINKLE, even I managed. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:05, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Rollo August If like me you don't do twinkle you can follow Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#How to nominate a single page for deletion. There are three templates and I redid the second and added the third. I advise previewing each template and checking the instructions if the page doesn't look right. You deserve a temla. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:19, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. The request seems to be in Wikipedia: Articles for deletion now, so many thanks for your help. Rollo August (talk) 09:48, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate side of the street parking

Alternate side of the street parking was created by MY GRANDFATHER!!! His name was Isidore Cohen. He was the Bureau Superintendent of the Department of Sanitation. HE created this for street cleaning. DO. NOT GIVE CREDIT TO SOMEONE ELSE!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.166.92.48 (talk) 00:05, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you have suggestions for improving an article, discuss it on the article's talk page, including references. RudolfRed (talk) 00:52, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alternate-side parking credits Paul Rogers Screvane and backs it up with a New York Times article. On the other hand, the New York Daily News says Cohen invented it, so I'll mention him as well in that article. Clarityfiend (talk) 01:12, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Sorry to hear about your husband. Unfortunately, this page is only for questions about using Wikipedia. The editors here are all volunteers and probably won't be able to assist with your specific situation. If you would like to contact a public official, you should look up their website and they will usually have a contact form. DanCherek (talk) 01:41, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia installation fails in GooglePlay on Android 4.4.2

It gives error 403 with no further explanation. Why? Is there anything I can do?

HTTP 403 means "access forbidden" by the server. You can tell which server is forbidding access by looking at the URL. It is not likely that this is a Wikipedia server, so you will need to contact whoever runs the server that is forbidding access. Post that URL here if you need help interpreting who the server belongs to.-Arch dude (talk) 05:31, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Smart search of deletion log

The deletion log (Special:Log) allows you to search for a specific target (title of article). But in the case of somebody with a common name, the article probably had some kind of disambiguation: perhaps a middle name or initial, perhaps an occupation, etc. Is there some way to do a smart search of the deletion log, that might pick up every article with a combination of a first and last name, regardless of what else is there? Or some way to find a partial match? Or other suggestion?--Gronk Oz (talk) 06:49, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The only way probbably is a database query. I am not an expert for those though. Victor Schmidt (talk) 08:58, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On home page: land in the Search box, automatically?

When going to the/a home page such as https://en.wikipedia.org/, it would be good for me, if my cursor were automatically in the Search box. Has this been considered (and rejected)? Would it have any undesirable side-effects? If not, might it benefit other people? Harry F 82.17.189.85 (talk) 10:27, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Implement "backlinking" for references?

Implement "backlinking" for references? On long pages there can be many links to references. Sometimes, there are several places in the text body which refer to the same reference. Occasionally, I want to find all places in the body which point to a particular reference. Is this of sufficient interest to others? Could it be implemented automatically? Harry F
