I'd like to help out with this if I can. I speak German and French and regularly read many news outlets from those countries, perhaps we could somehow create a list of relevant articles as the official date approaches? I'm thinking specifically of periodicals of record like [http://www.zeit.de Die Zeit], [http://www.lemonde.fr Le Monde], [http://www.guardian.co.uk The Guardian], [http://www.harpers.org Harper's] and [http://www.theatlantic.com The Atlantic]. Google News tracker is another good way to keep up with these sorts of things and keep a record (also free). [[User:Vkxmai|vkxmai]] 22:57, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

News and announcements

Adminship nomination for Bogdangiusca; Bogdangiuscais back!

This is the best news I want to share you for today! He will be even better than he was, I hope you'll respect him and support his actions. Let's be united!-- Bonaparte talk 11:16, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've nominated him for admin at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Bogdangiusca. Ronline 05:33, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Orioane

I thought this would be the best place to add this, since this noticeboard seems to be quite active - I've nominated Orioane for adminship, at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Orioane. He's already done some administrative-type work and he's also been a great help at the Bucharest article. Ronline 10:17, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx very much, I'm impressed. I'll have to ask you to give me some time to think about it and to vote only after I'll answer the questions. --Orioane 10:22, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Let us know when this happens. I think I'll ask some of the questions that I might have for Orioane in here, instead. Those Americans and Britts pissed me off with their whinning! --Anittas 12:58, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I've accepted, If you want to ask questions, I'll be very glad to answer on the Talk page. --Orioane 13:01, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship nomination for Dpotop

I've nominated Dpotop for adminship at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Dpotop. Thanks, Ronline 02:05, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the nomination, it was quite a surprise, but a very pleasant one. Unfortunately, I will have to decline it, for now. I'm in the middle of a lot of (real) work, pretty stressed, and for at least 2 months I will not have the time to contribute as a sysop should. I will use the time to read stuff that will help my wikipedia editing. Thanks a lot to Ronline, to Bonaparte, and to Anittas for having such a good oppinion on me. I hope that you will want to support me when I will be ready, which should happen during spring 2006. Dpotop 21:31, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
We'll be here to support you. Don't worry. :)-- Bonaparte talk 21:33, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Celan

I'm currently working on a literary thesis about Paul Celan, Alfred Margul-Sperber and Rose Ausländer--who were all Romanian and German speaking Jews (who survived the Holocaust) from Bukovina. I would like to create and/or edit and update existing pages for them, and perhaps create a new one addressing the nascent Romanian/German poetry that continued after the division of Bukovina. I will have time to start this maybe in two weeks. 99% of my sources will be from the German texts I personally own or borrow from Ohiolink. I also would like to create a page that addresses some of Celan's Romanian language poetry, published by Green Integer. vkxmai 22:57, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be waiting for these articles, since I know nothing about these people. Meanwhile, you could add your nickname to the list of contributors. :) --Anittas 00:43, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently there already is an Ausländer article and a Margul-Sperber one exists only in German. I'll probably just add content to both the English and German variants at once. vkxmai 16:46, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Romania's integration in EU

Romania will join EU in 2007. This is one of the most important process from recent history of Romania. Here a lot of things to be debated. I need help to write such an article. -- Bonaparte talk 17:49, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Vaslui

This is an article started by me where I worked the most. I got a tremendous help from many people. I tried to get it featured, but I was told that I needed some English references. I added many references, but none of them are in English. If any of you know of any English references that tell about this battle, please add them! Recently, I added a new image. If you guys have anything useful to add, please do so. --Anittas 14:28, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Who told you you need English-language references? That should not be a requirement. We certainly have FAs whose references are entirely in German or in Spanish. -- Jmabel | Talk 07:46, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Officially, it might not be a requirement, but it still seems to be necesary. I was told this when I tried to feature the article, and, also when I asked Raul, the guy in charge of picking the articles to be featured. See the discussion (Featured articles). --Anittas 11:50, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I added a English reference. It's still Dlugosz, but it's translated in English. I posted the ISBN. We could use more, tho. --Anittas 12:16, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
One more thing, the user who uploaded the image Image:Highbridge vaslui.jpg forgot to copyright it. I tried to contact him/her, but got no repsonse. Anyways it seems like a photo taken from a website, not made by him/her, and there could be problems if using a uncopirighted picture on a FA. Beside this, the monument deserves a better picture than that one. --Orioane 12:25, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Crap! Okay, who lives near Vaslui? Seriously. Can we find a photo of the monument elsewhere? Did you find the site? I might want to contact them. --Anittas 12:42, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Try Flickr. It's got a large number of Creative-Commons-licensed image. I've used many of them for the Bucharest article and Oradea. Ronline 02:07, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
They got none of Vaslui, but I'm sure you knew that already. All you needed to do was searching for Vaslui. --Anittas 05:02, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bucharest

I'm currently working, with help from Orioane and Jmabel, on bringing Bucharest up to featured article status. Help from people who live in Bucharest would be greatly appreciated, particularly photos, information, etc. See talk page. Ronline 00:59, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It says that Bucharest was burned down by the Turks in 1595, but don't forget that Stefan cel Mare burned it down in 1476. Also, I believe the city became the capital of Romania in 1862, not 1861. --Anittas 07:54, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
We must keep a reasonable level of details in each section. Once it becomes too large small details must be moved to a separate article. The fire of 1595 was added because it marked the creation of the first streets that still exist in present day Bucharest. --Orioane 08:06, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, seeing that you have photos of clubs and a list of so many schools, I thought it was significant enough. In either case, Bucharest was made capital in 1862. I double-checked this on Encyclopedia Britannica. --Anittas 08:19, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, but Bucharest is also a lively city, its not only history, monuments and blocurile gri, and first and foremost this article is for foreigners and should try to present all the aspects of life in Bucharest. And because its the biggest universitary city in Romania it has a very lively clublife. About the number of highschools I agree that it is a little bit longer and the list must be reshuffled, but we tried to add only the top highschools and they are quite a lot of good highschools in Bucharest. --Orioane 08:29, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Romanian language

I'm working, alas alone, on a series of articles related to the Romanian language. First I developed Romanian phonology (though there are still things to add, such as Romanian morpho-phonology, etc.), and recently I kind of finished Romanian nouns. I'm taking a sort of break before I start again with separate articles on Romanian verbs, pronouns, and so on. Before, Bogdan Giuşcă would check my articles -- his departue is such an immense loss -- now I can only hope someone will join me in this effort, at least to check I don't miss something important, or make any blatant mistake. --AdiJapan

Alex is your best choice, then, but you probably knew that already. Keep trying to reach Bogdan. He made an edit a day after he supposedly left. --Anittas 12:58, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bogdan studied this stuff in school in Bucharest I assume, while I (in the states) haven't formally studied Romanian in any school. Bogdan's the choice in this case. I just checked, and he's made as of now three edits since his purported last, goodbye edit on the 29 of Nov. Alexander 007 13:37, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Someone who is liked by Bogdan should ask him to return and join us here. Japan, you do it! --Anittas 13:39, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea if he likes me or not, but I did email him the minute I found out about his decision. No reply though. --AdiJapan 15:34, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Culture of Romania

I took the article under my supervision for quite a fuew weeks by now and with the help of Jmabel it looks quite OK by now. I still have do to about a half of it, and any help would be appreciated. --Orioane 08:11, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It' the first time I see this article. I'll check more on it, for it looks interesting. --Anittas 07:54, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Romanian history

I believe there is a huge change (in good) in the way Romanian history is publicly presented and understood. For a long time we've had a history organized around untouchable "national icons" and some "foes". Now, the focus shifts onto providing global understanding of the issues, and insuring consistency between events and figures, even though this may imply the exposure of not-so-bright aspects of great people. Two books I found extraordinary are Florin Calinescu's "O istorie sincera a poporului roman", and Alex Mihai Stoenescu's "Istoria loviturilor de stat din Romania" (4 volumes). I recommend these books to all of you, as I must say that they made me feel how great and complex Romania's history is. Giurascu started a move in this way, with his nice presentation style, but he was not able to touch recent history (too close to him). If someone shares my interest, I'd like to bring this nice stuff to wikipedia. My belief: "Only the whole truth can free us". Dpotop 09:53, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Populating and making articles for List of Romanians

I'll be working on this soon (already added a few names) - might need help on making articles though. So if anyones up for it? HotelRoom 06:49, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I added Antioch and rearranged a new category. Nice list. --Anittas 12:58, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
