Hallo, you moved [[:Carlos Martins]] to [[Carlos Martins (disambiguation)]], but "the title of a disambiguation page is the ambiguous term itself, provided there is no primary topic for that term. == Your userpage ==

Hello. Your userpage (like mine) has some images which may be misplaced or not chown when using a different skin. I'm sure you usually see [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fridae%27sDoom?useskin=vector this (vector)], but I decided to use a different skin for examples. If you click on any of the links, you will see what I mean (I'll not show all skins, just four for examples):
*[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fridae%27sDoom?useskin=monobook Monobook]
*[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fridae%27sDoom?useskin=modern Modern]
*[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fridae%27sDoom?useskin=myskin MySkin]
*[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fridae%27sDoom?useskin=simple Simple]

So you have seen what I mean...
Also, if you noticed, on the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fridae%27sDoom?useskin=modern Modern skin] (I'm using this, as this is what I checked), collapse boxes ''do not work''. I know I have some of the problems listed above, and I'm working on them (I cot rid of my collapse boxes already). Just a notification of "malformatted" userpage contents. :Oh, thanks for telling me, yeah I know :/ problem is I don't know how to fix these issues, I'm not an expert when it comes to dealing with cross-skin issues, I've moved the flags, as for the topicons, I'm not really fussy about those, but I thought that topicons were displayed the same on all skins... it seems I'm mistaken. Thanks again. <b>[[User:FD|<font color="Red" face="Tahoma">Ғяіᴅaз'§Đøøм</font>]] &#124; [[User:FD/t|<font color="Teal" face="Tahoma">Tea and biscuits?</font>]]</b> 10:12, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much, but I don't have much need for the crat flag just now. I don't do a whole lot around RFA, Bot Approvals, or renaming requests, which are the main areas crats are supposed to help out at. I appreciate the offer, though! :-) [[User:Hersfold|'''''<em style="font-family:Bradley Hand ITC;color:blue">Hers</em><em style="font-family:Bradley Hand ITC;color:gold">fold</em>''''']] ([[User:Hersfold/t|t]]/[[User:Hersfold/a|a]]/[[Special:Contributions/Hersfold|c]]) 18:48, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

== GA review ==

Hi Fridae'sDoom, I noticed a GA review you recently did at [[Talk:Anne Marie Louise d'Orléans, Duchess of Montpensier/GA1]] and was a little confused. You seem to be saying in the checklist that the article ''doesn't'' meet all the criteria, but then you've passed it as a GA. Do you know you can put the article "on hold" to allow the nominator to fix the issues before passing? Sorry, I don't mean that to sound patronising at all, if you already know that, but I couldn't tell from your userpage whether or not you've done any GA reviews before. --[[User:Belovedfreak|<span style="color:#006699; font-family: trebuchet">Beloved</span>]][[User talk:Belovedfreak|<span style="color:#336666; font-family: trebuchet">Freak</span>]] 12:22, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
:It's ok, it was only those two issues that I found that were the problem, I didn't think there was need to put it on hold since they weren't really major issues that hindered the viewing and understanding of others. What do you think? '''[[User:FD|<font color="Red" face="Tahoma">Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм</font>]] &#124; [[User:FD/t|<font color="Teal" face="Trebuchet MS">Champagne?</font>]]''' 12:25, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

::Well, it's up to you as the reviewer. If it was me, if I felt that any of the criteria hadn't been met, I'd put it on hold to allow for that to happen. I'd also give a more thorough review with suggestions for further improvement, but that's not to every GA reviewer's taste. I haven't looked too closely at the article itself, I'm just going from the discrepancy between your checklist and decision to list the article as a GA. If you feel that the lead is not long enough (and I agree with that; it doesn't cover all the main points of the article), then that criterion has not been met. Only a few MOS points need to be adhered to at GA, but [[WP:LEAD]] is one of them. There's no hurry to pass a GA nomination, many nominations are put on hold, even from experienced nominators.--[[User:Belovedfreak|<span style="color:#006699; font-family: trebuchet">Beloved</span>]][[User talk:Belovedfreak|<span style="color:#336666; font-family: trebuchet">Freak</span>]] 13:17, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
:::The images used have had their copyright term expire. I wasn't trying to contradict myself, more so that I thought that putting it on hold because of the Lead might be taken about in the wrong way since it meets the other criterion without fail. '''[[User:FD|<font color="Red" face="Tahoma">Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм</font>]] &#124; [[User:FD/t|<font color="Teal" face="Trebuchet MS">Champagne?</font>]]''' 20:42, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
::::I don't think you need to worry about it being taken in the wrong way, you just say it's nearly there, and there is just x, y and z that needs to be fixed. Regular GA nominators get used to fixing things in order to bring the article up to scratch, and new nominators quickly learn from reviews. Nominators that are looking to improve the article beyond just getting the GA stamp, and are possibly even looking to go to FA, appreciate a thorough review. The point is that the article is listed as a GA when it meets all of the GA criteria, not just most of them.

::::Having looked at the article a bit more, I'm a little worried that there might also be some parts of the prose that are a little unclear and would need improving to meet criterion 1a. (I already fixed a couple of spelling and punctuation errors, which come under 1a.) I hope you don't feel that I'm getting at you here, and I certainly don't want to put you off GA reviewing, as it's a task that needs more editors. I just want to make sure you/we get it right. I'm off to bed myself now, but tomorrow I'll have a closer look and if you don't mind, outline the bits I think there might be problems with. I'm a bit too sleepy now, and it might not be as bad as I think, so I'll look again tomorrow. Again, I hope you don't mind me taking a closer look and don't feel that I'm picking on you in any way!--[[User:Belovedfreak|<span style="color:#006699; font-family: trebuchet">Beloved</span>]][[User talk:Belovedfreak|<span style="color:#336666; font-family: trebuchet">Freak</span>]] 21:55, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

:::::Rightio then, thanks :) I read through the article and didn't find any issues bar the Lead and cause of death theories/speculations. '''[[User:FD|<font color="Red" face="Tahoma">Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм</font>]] &#124; [[User:FD/t|<font color="Teal" face="Trebuchet MS">Champagne?</font>]]''' 22:08, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
::::::I still don't understand why you passed it if you think there ''are'' issues. Anyway, I've looked through the whole thing and made some copyedits, but there are still too many things that seem unclear to me, things that I don't think can be fixed by me, or you, but by someone familiar with the article and in possession of the sources. I've started a community reassessment because I don't feel completely confident in reassessing it individually. It's not the kind of article I would normally pick at WP:GAN so I'd rather get some other eyes on it. Also, as you don't see much wrong with it, it would be helpful to get other opinions, in case I'm seeing problems that aren't really there! Feel free to comment at [[Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Anne Marie Louise d'Orléans, Duchess of Montpensier/1|the reassessment]], whether to make suggestions or to disagree with my comments or whatever. :) Sorry to do this to your first review (your first, right?), but I think the issues are fixable and hopefully it will stay as a GA.--[[User:Belovedfreak|<span style="color:#006699; font-family: trebuchet">Beloved</span>]][[User talk:Belovedfreak|<span style="color:#336666; font-family: trebuchet">Freak</span>]] 18:38, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

{{outdent|7}}Fridae'sDoom, as you edit the article on ''La Grande Mademoiselle'', would you mind giving clearer edit summaries than just "fixing issues per GAR"? What are these "issues"? Could you spell them out at each revision? And why did you GA pass it so quickly while there is so much work to do on it? Nobody had time to read the article, edit it, or interfere in any way, that you had already passed it. Even after the work
[[User:Belovedfreak|BelovedFreak]] did on it on 10/11 September, there is still quite a bit to do. Why the rush all at once on this particular article?

== [[George Washington]] ==

Thanks for nominating [[George Washington]] for GA - it's an important topic that should be one of our better articles. Unfortunately I've had to fail it. The amount of work needed to make it match the GA criteria is going to take a while, and preferably would involve people who either already know a bit about Washington or have good access to sources on him. I will keep the article on my watchlist and attempt to assist with the article's development now and again. <span style="border: 1px #F10; background-color:cream;">'''[[User:SilkTork|<font face="Script MT" color="#1111AA" size="2">SilkTork</font>]]''' *[[User talk:SilkTork|YES!]]</span> 15:41, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for being a great mentor, and for adopting me. Sadly, school and my recent complications from a spine surgery have not allowed me to edit as much as I'd like to. Because of this, I am going to take myself out of the adoption program, and will continue to edit on and off, mainly in the areas of vandalism cleanup, and new page patrolling. I will also be participating in XfDs, and RfAs. Who knows, maybe I'll have time to write an article or two! Thank you again for adopting me, and thank you for all you do for Wikipedia. Cheers! Hello and welcome to the [[WP:MILHIST|Military history WikiProject]]! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.

A few features that you might find helpful:

* Our [[Template:WPMILHIST Navigation|navigation box]] points to most of the useful pages within the project.
* The [[Template:WPMILHIST Announcements|announcement and open task box]] is updated very frequently. You can [{{fullurl:Template:WPMILHIST Announcements|action=watch}} watchlist it] if you are interested, or you can add it directly to your user page by copying the following: {{tl|WPMILHIST Announcements}}.
* Important discussions take place on the project's [[Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history|main discussion page]]; it is highly recommended that you [{{SERVER}}{{localurl:Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history|action=watch}} watchlist it].
* The project has several [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history#Structure|departments]], which handle [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment|article quality assessment]], [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Review|detailed article and content review]], [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Contest|writing contests]], and [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Logistics|article logistics]].
* We have a number of [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Task forces|task forces]] that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
* We've developed a set of [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history#Guidelines|guidelines]] that cover article structure and content, template use, categorization, and many other issues of interest.
* If you're looking for something to work on, there are many [[:Category:Military history articles needing attention|articles that need attention]], as well as a number of [[Template:WPMILHIST Review alerts|review alerts]].
* If you have an idea for improving the project, we have a [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Coordinators/Strategy think tank|strategy think tank]] that provides a dedicated forum for discussing it.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask any of the [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Coordinators|project coordinators]] or any other experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome, and we are looking forward to seeing you around! [[User:AustralianRupert|AustralianRupert]] ([[User talk:AustralianRupert|talk]]) 23:06, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

I just read up about [[Swatch Internet Time]], and it explains that the time is fixed - not dependent on time zones or daylight saving time. So, the time in beats is exactly the same, all over the world. Therefore, X!'s code will work fine.

I just copied the actual 'beats' portion over to [[User:Chzz/swt]], therefore if I write here <nowiki>{{subst:User:Chzz/swt}}</nowiki>, it will put the time in beats on this page, and the moment I click save&mdash;it is: [[.beat|@400]] <small><span style="border:1px solid;background:#00008B">[[User:Chzz|'''<span style="background:#00008B;color:white">&nbsp;Chzz&nbsp;</span>''']][[User talk:Chzz|<span style="color:#00008B;background-color:yellow;">&nbsp;►&nbsp;</span>]]</span></small> 08:36, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

[[File:MediaWiki-render-flowchart.svg|thumb|Rendering of pages]]
::Yes, you can just remove all the substitution, so [[User:chzz/swt2]], '''however''', the time that it shows will not update until the page is recreated by mediawiki; so, it will normally show the time when you visit the page that it is transcluded on, but you may see a cached copy of the page. For example, right here; if I put <nowiki>{{User:chzz/swt2}}</nowiki> that shows the time (beats) when this page was last rendered: {{User:Chzz/swt}} &mdash; but even if you refresh the page, it may not change. If you [[WP:PURGE|purge]] the page, e.g. by going to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Fridae%27sDoom?action=purge then it should update.

::It's not possible to show dynamic content on a Wikipedia page other than by using javascript, because of the order in which pages are rendered (see diagram).

::In other words: transcluding the time, or other dynamic content, and having it update is not really possible. You can write the time at the point when you save a page, but you can't show 'The time is now...xxx' because it will only show the time when the page was drawn up, not the time you loaded it.

::Same thing happens if you put e.g. <nowiki>{{numberofarticles}}</nowiki>: {{numberofarticles}}. <small><span style="border:1px solid;background:#00008B">[[User:Chzz|'''<span style="background:#00008B;color:white">&nbsp;Chzz&nbsp;</span>''']][[User talk:Chzz|<span style="color:#00008B;background-color:yellow;">&nbsp;►&nbsp;</span>]]</span></small> 09:37, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

::You may want to replace the round functions in the Swatch Internet Time code with truncation functions. At the moment, [[User:X!|X!]]'s code for Swatch Internet Time is 43.2 seconds or half a beat fast. Also, in between 22:59:17 and 22:59:59, the code gives the Swatch Internet Time as @1000, which is completely off the scale, since @1000 is not a valid value of Swatch Internet Time. == Question if you dont mind ==

Hi FD, I've got a question, if you dont mind. My [[User:AJona1992|adoptee]] is working on an [[Amor_Prohibido_(song)|article]] and are trying to figure out how to cite this:

:Shakira sung some parts of the song during a trivia interview in 2007 for Univisions, Otro Rollo.

We've found plenty of videos of it and such, but cannot find a show transcript, or official channel/website for the show. Is there some other way to cite it? Best, <small>[[User:RobertMfromLI|<span style="border:1px solid #00d;background:#CCD;padding:1px;">R<small>OBERT</small>M<small>FROM</small>LI</span>]] [[User talk:RobertMfromLI|TALK]]/[[Special:Contributions/RobertMfromLI|CNTRB]]</small> 07:12, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
:The song being [[Amor_Prohibido_(song)]] by Selena. Sorry about that. Citing video stuff has never been my strong point when YouTube and such are the only sources I can find. <small>[[User:RobertMfromLI|<span style="border:1px solid #00d;background:#CCD;padding:1px;">R<small>OBERT</small>M<small>FROM</small>LI</span>]] [[User talk:RobertMfromLI|TALK]]/[[Special:Contributions/RobertMfromLI|CNTRB]]</small> 07:15, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

::I believe that in such a case YouTube would be allowed as a source, see [[KevJumba]] for more info as the article is a [[WP:GA]] and uses YouTube as a source. == spaces in info boxes ==

I was wondering why you are removing the spaces from infoboxes that facilitate the readability of the infobox when editing?<br>
I'll point out that many hundreds (thousands?) of editors have gone to the effort of putting the spaces into the infoboxes.<br>
Cheers, [[User:Pdfpdf|Pdfpdf]] ([[User talk:Pdfpdf|talk]]) 13:59, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

:::And please restore the ones you have removed.
:::You have removed them from dozens of pages; it's a big job to restore them yet leave in place the useful changes that AutoEd has made. I'm loath to simply revert your dozens of changes, but I don't have the patience to manually restore them individually, page by page. Presumably you can modify AutoEd to restore them (semi-)automatically? Cheers, [[User:Pdfpdf|Pdfpdf]] ([[User talk:Pdfpdf|talk]]) 03:32, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

:::My response is simple, there is no policy against the removal or addition of spaces but AutoEd is programmed to edit articles and modify templates used in their original format, said format being with only 1 space. Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located [[Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's_Area/Adopters|here]]. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:

* If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
* If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.

* You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter [[Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's_Area/Adopters|here]].

== Article assessment for Military History project ==

Hi Fridae'sDoom. Thanks for taking a shot at assessing [[9th Parachute Assault Regiment]] and [[General (Canada)]]. Not bad for a first attempt. I have tweaked your assessments so that they fall in to line with the general concensus within the Military History project. General (Canada) doesn't really have enough prose to be considered Start class for Milhist, while 9th Parachute Assault Regiment satisfies the B5 critierion because it has images and an infobox (the general rule in the Military History project is that for a B class rating, an article simply needs either one image or an infobox of some kind). It is good to see someone keen to do this sort of work and I would like to encourage you to continue to assess our articles. The main assessment page ([[WP:MHA]]) has some examples of articles at each class level. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Cheers. == UAA ==

Hey. If you want to make yourself genuinely useful at UAA and take on a bit of a challenge, the best thing you can do is keep an eye on it, comment on some of the reports that fall into the grey areas (I take those into account when deciding and I'm sure other admins do). Cleaning out [[CAT:UAA]] is also a helpful task that doesn't require a banhammer{{mdash}}it would be helpful to have someone report the blatant violations and remove non-vios from the cat and, of course, discussing usernames with users is helpful. If you want to save admins a few minutes (or just make my job a little easier) you could help at RfPP, where comments on borderline requests can make all the difference or [[WP:SCV]], where you can do everything, except you have to {{tl|db-copyvio}} the blatant vios rather than delete them altogether. Anyway, don't be discouraged by the non-clerk thing. It's not a big deal (I get worse stick at ANI every few days, but it's all part and parcel of taking on a role or working in an area that's potentially controversial). == Error with the welcome bot on ACC ==

Unfortunately the Welcome bot on ACC is using the wrong name when signing the welcome text. I don't know if it is an error with the bot or with the way you have configured it, but as it is, it not signing with your en-WP username. If you can sort out the parameters that would be good, otherwise could you disable welcoming until it can sign with this username. For those who are interested, data about the finalists has been compiled at [[Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/finalists]], while a list of content submitted by all WikiCup contestants prior to this round has been compiled at [[Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Submissions]]. As ever, anything contestants worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at [[Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews]], and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the [[WT:CUP|WikiCup talk page]].

Despite controversy, the WikiCup remains open. DAB name

Hallo, you moved Carlos Martins to Carlos Martins (disambiguation), but "the title of a disambiguation page is the ambiguous term itself, provided there is no primary topic for that term. (WP:DABNAME) --Christian75 (talk) 09:47, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your userpage

Hello. Your userpage (like mine) has some images which may be misplaced or not chown when using a different skin. I'm sure you usually see this (vector), but I decided to use a different skin for examples. If you click on any of the links, you will see what I mean (I'll not show all skins, just four for examples):

So you have seen what I mean... Also, if you noticed, on the Modern skin (I'm using this, as this is what I checked), collapse boxes do not work. I know I have some of the problems listed above, and I'm working on them (I cot rid of my collapse boxes already). Just a notification of "malformatted" userpage contents. Hazard-SJ Talk 09:33, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for telling me, yeah I know :/ problem is I don't know how to fix these issues, I'm not an expert when it comes to dealing with cross-skin issues, I've moved the flags, as for the topicons, I'm not really fussy about those, but I thought that topicons were displayed the same on all skins... it seems I'm mistaken. Thanks again. Ғяіᴅaз'§Đøøм | Tea and biscuits? 10:12, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that I've been repeatedly told that their is now way to fix the cross skin issues unless someone feels like re-writing the entire Media-Wiki code (not something I suggest). So I'll work on it but it will always look wrong in someones skin. Mr. R00t Talk 17:28, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
When I click edit the only thing that shows up is {{\}}. Why is that? Mr. R00t Talk 17:47, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Goto User:Fridae'sDoom/ as I transcluded my userpage. Ғяіᴅaз'§Đøøм | Tea and biscuits? 22:31, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
checkY All fixed. It should look okay in all skins except for "Simple" and "MySkin". Cheers, Mr. R00t Talk 23:46, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. And thanks for the Barnstar. Cheers, Mr. R00t Talk 01:50, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is not perfect but it isn't jumbled anymore. Your current time is now above the topicons instead of below it. Mr. R00t Talk 02:11, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, that works to. And it only fails in a couple of skins. ;) Mr. R00t Talk 02:36, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, thanks r00t for all your trouble in fixing the alignment issues, if only that blasted fix wouldn't have catastrophic implications... Ғяіᴅaз'§Đøøм | Tea and biscuits? 02:47, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GA review

Hi Fridae'sDoom, I noticed a GA review you recently did at Talk:Anne Marie Louise d'Orléans, Duchess of Montpensier/GA1 and was a little confused. You seem to be saying in the checklist that the article doesn't meet all the criteria, but then you've passed it as a GA. Do you know you can put the article "on hold" to allow the nominator to fix the issues before passing? Sorry, I don't mean that to sound patronising at all, if you already know that, but I couldn't tell from your userpage whether or not you've done any GA reviews before. --BelovedFreak 12:22, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's ok, it was only those two issues that I found that were the problem, I didn't think there was need to put it on hold since they weren't really major issues that hindered the viewing and understanding of others. What do you think? Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм | Champagne? 12:25, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to sleep now so I'll respond to your questions in 10-12 hours time. Thanks! Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм | Champagne? 12:37, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's up to you as the reviewer. Only a few MOS points need to be adhered to at GA, but WP:LEAD is one of them. There's no hurry to pass a GA nomination, many nominations are put on hold, even from experienced nominators.--BelovedFreak 13:17, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The images used have had their copyright term expire. I wasn't trying to contradict myself, more so that I thought that putting it on hold because of the Lead might be taken about in the wrong way since it meets the other criterion without fail. Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм | Champagne? 20:42, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you need to worry about it being taken in the wrong way, you just say it's nearly there, and there is just x, y and z that needs to be fixed.
Having looked at the article a bit more, I'm a little worried that there might also be some parts of the prose that are a little unclear and would need improving to meet criterion 1a. Again, I hope you don't mind me taking a closer look and don't feel that I'm picking on you in any way!--BelovedFreak 21:55, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Rightio then, thanks :) I read through the article and didn't find any issues bar the Lead and cause of death theories/speculations. Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм | Champagne? 22:08, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't understand why you passed it if you think there are issues. Feel free to comment at the reassessment, whether to make suggestions or to disagree with my comments or whatever. :) Sorry to do this to your first review (your first, right?), but I think the issues are fixable and hopefully it will stay as a GA.--BelovedFreak 18:38, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fixing up some of the issues per the GAR, yeah this is my first review, quite horrible at that. Thanks for the help. I've got a lot to learn before I become a good reviewer. Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм | Champagne? 01:23, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fridae'sDoom, as you edit the article on La Grande Mademoiselle, would you mind giving clearer edit summaries than just "fixing issues per GAR"? What are these "issues"? Could you spell them out at each revision? And why did you GA pass it so quickly while there is so much work to do on it? Nobody had time to read the article, edit it, or interfere in any way, that you had already passed it. Even after the work

BelovedFreak did on it on 10/11 September, there is still quite a bit to do. Why the rush all at once on this particular article?

--Frania W. (talk) 02:16, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Check the GA Reassessment page for the issues that I addressed. My edit summaries were brief intentionally, I didn't intend for them to become mini-articles in and of themselves. Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм | Champagne? 02:33, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are the reviewer and, without making "mini-articles" of your edit summaries, you should make things clear for everyone to see; otherwise, it leaves everybody in the dark as to what the "issues" are.
--Frania W. (talk) 02:40, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, when I address an issue the GAR page will be updated so I assumed people would be looking to see what's been done and what hasn't been done. Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм | Champagne? 02:46, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The edit summary is intended to give a brief description of what has been done so that anyone can read it when checking the history page: "fixing issues" does not mean anything, and when going back to the GAR page, the reader will not know which "issue" was fixed and when.
--Frania W. (talk) 03:15, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was in a hurry to get these issues addressed that I didn't bother with a descriptive edit summary. As I said I will make sure that I do so in the future and avoid overlooking the importance of edit-summaries. Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм | Champagne? 03:30, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for nominating George Washington for GA - it's an important topic that should be one of our better articles. Unfortunately I've had to fail it. The amount of work needed to make it match the GA criteria is going to take a while, and preferably would involve people who either already know a bit about Washington or have good access to sources on him. I will keep the article on my watchlist and attempt to assist with the article's development now and again. SilkTork *YES! 15:41, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

Thank you for being a great mentor, and for adopting me. Sadly, school and my recent complications from a spine surgery have not allowed me to edit as much as I'd like to. Because of this, I am going to take myself out of the adoption program, and will continue to edit on and off, mainly in the areas of vandalism cleanup, and new page patrolling. I will also be participating in XfDs, and RfAs. Who knows, maybe I'll have time to write an article or two! Thank you again for adopting me, and thank you for all you do for Wikipedia. Cheers! Help needed

Ok I have a question, how would I calculate my Swatch Internet Time using Wikimarkup? Like how X! does it: User:X!/sig. Also my timezone is GMT+10 and my region observes DST. —Ғяіᴆaз'§Đøøм Champagne?Cork?Glass4:16pm 06:16, 20 September 2010 (UTC) [reply]

If this is for your signature, then please consider not adding it. It doesn't help make Wikipedia better, and adding different time-zones can confuse other editors. Your signature, above, is already 476 characters; the limit is 255 (WP:SIG) so please consider shortening it.
I'll leave the helpme here though, in case others have comments.  Chzz  ►  06:29, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not for my signature, I use local time in my sig (for reference). Sorry about sig length I shortened it now, it should be fine. I'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to calculating time using Wikimarkup. —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?4:33pm 06:33, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, and thanks for shortening the sig.  Chzz  ►  06:39, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome thanks for reminding me of the guideline :) —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?4:50pm 06:50, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hope you don't mind that I've untranscluded the helpme; I believe X! has given you an answer of sorts as well. Of course, feel free to revert. Cheers. sonia 07:39, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah but that's for his timezone, I'm in Australia ;) I should have made it clear, it was my fault. Sorry about that. Regards, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?5:41pm 07:41, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wait, I'm an idiot I did include that in the statement >.< but yeah the code he has is for his timezone and I don't know how to calculate mine. —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?5:45pm 07:45, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, at the part that says #time:G , that's for the hours. He's got +1 after it- I suppose you just switch that to +10. Is that what you wanted? sonia 07:47, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I've only taken a very brief glance at it, but if you look at X!'s sig, you'll find that he's just used some wikimagic to split the date into its various values for hours, minutes, etc., and arithmetically adjusted it to match his timezone. Since that means overflowing the hours into larger parameters where appropriate, it involves some rather complicated handling; you might want to ask X! for some tips as I haven't tried doing this in wiki markup, it's not really designed for such manipulation. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 07:48, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks both of you :) yes he is very good at programming, now I know why he subst's his signature. I was going to ask him but I thought I'd bothered him enough, time to ask him again. —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?5:51pm 07:51, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just read up about Swatch Internet Time, and it explains that the time is fixed - not dependent on time zones or daylight saving time. So, the time in beats is exactly the same, all over the world. Therefore, X!'s code will work fine.

I just copied the actual 'beats' portion over to User:Chzz/swt, therefore if I write here {{subst:User:Chzz/swt}}, it will put the time in beats on this page, and the moment I click save—it is: @400  Chzz  ►  08:36, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ok thanks :) —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?6:40pm 08:40, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Uhh not to be a bother but you wouldn't know how to make a transcluded version would you? Regards, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?6:55pm 08:55, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Rendering of pages
Yes, you can just remove all the substitution, so User:chzz/swt2, however, the time that it shows will not update until the page is recreated by mediawiki; so, it will normally show the time when you visit the page that it is transcluded on, but you may see a cached copy of the page. For example, right here; if I put {{User:chzz/swt2}} that shows the time (beats) when this page was last rendered: @253 — but even if you refresh the page, it may not change. If you purge the page, e.g. by going to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Fridae%27sDoom?action=purge then it should update.
It's not possible to show dynamic content on a Wikipedia page other than by using javascript, because of the order in which pages are rendered (see diagram).
In other words: transcluding the time, or other dynamic content, and having it update is not really possible. You can write the time at the point when you save a page, but you can't show 'The time is now...xxx' because it will only show the time when the page was drawn up, not the time you loaded it.
Same thing happens if you put e.g. {{numberofarticles}}: 6,850,193.  Chzz  ►  09:37, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok then, thanks Chzz! —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?7:44pm 09:44, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to replace the round functions in the Swatch Internet Time code with truncation functions. At the moment, X!'s code for Swatch Internet Time is 43.2 seconds or half a beat fast. Also, in between 22:59:17 and 22:59:59, the code gives the Swatch Internet Time as @1000, which is completely off the scale, since @1000 is not a valid value of Swatch Internet Time. Here is a corrected version of the code:
@{{#ifexpr:(trunc((({{#time:G}}+1)*3600+{{#time:i}}*60+{{#time:s}})/86.4) mod 1000)<100|0}}{{#ifexpr:(trunc((({{#time:G}}+1)*3600+{{#time:i}}*60+{{#time:s}})/86.4) mod 1000)<10|0}}{{#expr:(trunc(({{#time:G}}+1)*3600+{{#time:i}}*60+{{#time:s}})/86.4) mod 1000}}
Hope this helps. Set Sail For The Seven Seas 237° 29' 0" NET 15:49, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You can also use this version, which is more similar to X!'s version.
@{{#ifexpr:trunc(({{#time:s}}/3600+{{#time:i}}/60+({{#time:G}}+1) mod 24)/24*1000)<100|0|}}{{#ifexpr:trunc(({{#time:s}}/3600+{{#time:i}}/60+({{#time:G}}+1) mod 24)/24*1000)<10|0|}}{{#expr:trunc(({{#time:s}}/3600+{{#time:i}}/60+({{#time:G}}+1) mod 24)/24*1000)}}
Hope this helps. Set Sail For The Seven Seas 250° 55' 59" NET 16:43, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question if you dont mind

Hi FD, I've got a question, if you dont mind. My adoptee is working on an article and are trying to figure out how to cite this:

Shakira sung some parts of the song during a trivia interview in 2007 for Univisions, Otro Rollo.

We've found plenty of videos of it and such, but cannot find a show transcript, or official channel/website for the show. Is there some other way to cite it? Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 07:12, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The song being Amor_Prohibido_(song) by Selena. Sorry about that. Citing video stuff has never been my strong point when YouTube and such are the only sources I can find. ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 07:15, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that in such a case YouTube would be allowed as a source, see KevJumba for more info as the article is a WP:GA and uses YouTube as a source. Regards, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?5:20pm 07:20, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Just as an addendum, cited content doesn't have to be cited in online sources: there's nothing wrong with simply citing the TV programme on which it appeared (and possibly also including a link to youtube to provide a means of easy verification). You should be careful to ensure that the youtube video isn't a copyright violation though; if it's a TV recording used without permission against copyright law, we shouldn't link to it. spaces in info boxes

I was wondering why you are removing the spaces from infoboxes that facilitate the readability of the infobox when editing?
I'll point out that many hundreds (thousands?) of editors have gone to the effort of putting the spaces into the infoboxes.
Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:59, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was using AutoEd, it's not the actual format for the Infoboxes, check the template. Sorry about that, it's still readble. —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne? 00:52, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but I'm not sure that I understand your reply; it doesn't seem particularly relevant.
I'm not aware of there being any policy about the presence or absence of spaces in infoboxes.
I'll repeat myself: many hundreds (thousands?) of editors have gone to the effort of putting the spaces into the infoboxes.
Please do not remove them. Pdfpdf (talk) 03:32, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And please restore the ones you have removed.
You have removed them from dozens of pages; it's a big job to restore them yet leave in place the useful changes that AutoEd has made. I'm loath to simply revert your dozens of changes, but I don't have the patience to manually restore them individually, page by page. Presumably you can modify AutoEd to restore them (semi-)automatically? Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 03:32, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The infoboxes did not have the spaces before the horizontal pipe, so AutoEd was removing them. The pages themselves are fine, it's not like anyone can see the raw wikicode otherwise the watchers of said articles would be raising this concern with me. —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne? 03:42, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the watchers of said articles would be raising this concern with me. - I am, and I have. Pdfpdf (talk) 09:00, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well no one else is raising this issue with me because they have no problem with it. Check the template page itself for the proper format. I'm not going to argue with you. Regards, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?9:06am 23:06, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to argue with you. - Good.
You may have noticed that I have asked you a number of questions. You have only answered one of them.
I have noticed that almost all of your responses are irrelevant, and ONLY reflect YOUR opinion. (Not fact. Opinion.)
Well no one else is raising this issue with me because they have no problem with it. - Irrelevant. I am not "anyone else". And neither are you.
Check the template page itself for the proper format. - That's a non-sequitur, and irrelevant.
I have asked:
  • "why you are removing the spaces from infoboxes" - not answered.
  • "I'm not aware of there being any policy about the presence or absence of spaces in infoboxes." - not answered.
  • Many hundreds (thousands?) of editors have gone to the effort of putting the spaces into the infoboxes.
    • Why do you think they may have done this ?
    • Have you considered that it may be inappropriate to undo their work without discusssing it with them first?
  • "Please do not remove them." - no response.
  • "Presumably you can modify AutoEd to restore them (semi-)automatically?" - not answered.

My response is simple, there is no policy against the removal or addition of spaces but AutoEd is programmed to edit articles and modify templates used in their original format, said format being with only 1 space. No I cannot modify AutoEd to do what you ask, also I have been doing this for months now on other articles and you are the only person to have raised this issue with me. Have you considered that? I don't mean to sound rude, but you're the only one to have an issue over such a minor aspect of article editing. Regards, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?9:34pm 11:34, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be going to sleep now, I'll give you my response in the morning. Regards, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?9:36pm 11:36, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply.
No I cannot modify AutoEd to do what you ask - That's a shame. Thank you for the information.
I have been doing this for months now on other articles and you are the only person to have raised this issue with me. - That's interesting. I'm rather surprised. I'm forced to wonder why all those hundreds of people went to the effort of putting the spaces in there. Well, life's full of mysteries ...
Again, thanks for your reply. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 12:09, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, thanks for your understanding at least we got this cleared . —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?9:07am 23:07, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! :) I actually noticed it quite a while back, but no one was really that interested in Swatch Internet Time back then. In fact my signature has a similar code, but for New Earth Time. Are You Lovin' Me Like I'm Lovin' You

I notice you added an expand tag to Are You Lovin' Me Like I'm Lovin' You. I would suggest finding some other way to call attention to the article's length; please read WP:EXPANDALTS. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 20:41, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Expand was the best tag I could find in the list. I added expand further above the reflist. Regards, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?9:16am 23:16, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adopt-a-user reminder

Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:

  • If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
  • If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
  • You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

Article assessment for Military History project

Hi Fridae'sDoom. Thanks for taking a shot at assessing 9th Parachute Assault Regiment and General (Canada). The main assessment page (WP:MHA) has some examples of articles at each class level. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Cheers. UAA

Hey. If you want to make yourself genuinely useful at UAA and take on a bit of a challenge, the best thing you can do is keep an eye on it, comment on some of the reports that fall into the grey areas (I take those into account when deciding and I'm sure other admins do). Cleaning out CAT:UAA is also a helpful task that doesn't require a banhammer—it would be helpful to have someone report the blatant violations and remove non-vios from the cat and, of course, discussing usernames with users is helpful. If you want to save admins a few minutes (or just make my job a little easier) you could help at RfPP, where comments on borderline requests can make all the difference or WP:SCV, where you can do everything, except you have to {{db-copyvio}} the blatant vios rather than delete them altogether. Anyway, don't be discouraged by the non-clerk thing. It's not a big deal (I get worse stick at ANI every few days, but it's all part and parcel of taking on a role or working in an area that's potentially controversial). Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:18, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks HJ, I've been taking a break from UAA. I've got very few mainspace edits so I go around on articles and try to address issues I see. Such as in Benjamin Franklin or whatever takes my fancy. I'll take these suggestions on board :) I would like to one day be an administrator but I don't think I even come close to meeting my own criteria >.< Well thanks again :) Regards, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?11:13am 01:13, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FAC withdrawn

I appreciate that you are acting in good faith, but it is best if featured articles are nominated by people who have worked closely on them. In this way, they can give reasoned replies to reviewers and be familiar enough with the sources to act on suggested improvements. Someone who has not worked on the article can not provide this input, so the nomination may continue until opposition to it becomes so overwhelming that the article is failed; this takes away time from reviewers. While the Neverwinter Nights 2 article is of reasonable quality, it is not yet of featured quality, and principal contributors must be consulted before a nomination, as required in the featured article candidate instructions. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 11:05, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Righto then, the article didn't look as though it had major issues but I suppose you raise a fair point. Thanks :) regards, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?9:10pm 11:10, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Error with the welcome bot on ACC

Unfortunately the Welcome bot on ACC is using the wrong name when signing the welcome text. I don't know if it is an error with the bot or with the way you have configured it, but as it is, it not signing with your en-WP username. If you can sort out the parameters that would be good, otherwise could you disable welcoming until it can sign with this username. Thanks Alexandr Dmitri (talk) 12:34, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your sig

Hello, just a quick question, are you adding the time on your signature manually or is it a template in your signature. Thanks, - Dwayne was here! 00:57, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I substitute my signature, go to this page to see how I do it, you need to substitute templates, for example, {{INTERNETTIME}} gives you the Swatch Internet Time and {{#time:U}} gives you the Unix time. See User:Mentifisto/Top for more time templates. Remember to subst them in your signature otherwise the time will keep reloading someone purges their cache. —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?4:41pm 06:41, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your substituted signature is violating the length-limit by about 41 characters, please trim it. –xenotalk 12:43, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
