Dear Sir/Madame,

I fear that my name and identity has been stated in a Wiki entry, which was deleted in 2008, yet is still visible and reference by your logs and by "wikigrains". What is the process to get this false information permanently deleted?

Thank you,

    Spam email?

    Hi all.

I am wondering if anyone else has received this e-mail from LedZeppelinFan1970@gmail.com. It has obviously been mass-mailed, because I don't listen to Led Zeppelin music, maybe I've fixed a typo on a Led Zeppelin-related article, but not on that article itself as far as I can see and I don't think my "passions would fit well" in a community that annotates Led Zeppelin songs. spam email?
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

Hi there, my name is Shar, I'm a huge Led Zeppelin fan and I realized you've contributed to wikipedia articles about Led Zeppelin.

I wanted to ask for your help in annotating Led Zeppelin's songs and songs of any other bands through a browser-based mp3 player I made with a team of music lovers called www.color.fm

So far our community has annotated 17 of Led Zeppelin's songs and annotated even more for other bands. These annotations will appear as you're playing your uploaded copies of these songs.

You can create an account on www.color.fm and submit annotations to help our community reach our goal of annotating all 81 of Led Zeppelin's songs and songs of other bands!

We use an audio identification technology so whenever someone else in the world is playing their copy of a song, regardless of the filename or id3 tags of their mp3, the annotations you wrote appear on their screen as the song is playing!

We created a fun and easy to use annotation builder so you can share what's beautiful or special about any of your songs.

Hopefully you could contribute to www.color.fm! If you have any questions or need help finding your way around don't hesitate to email me, I'd love to help you out.

    -Shar staff@color.fm

    ==================

P.S. Sorry if this email comes across as solicitous, I just thought your passions would fit well with our community at www.color.fm and wanted to reach out to you. I won't proactively send emails like this again. Thank you for your time =)

Unfortunately I will NOT be checking my wikipedia talk page and can only be contacted exclusively through email.

Ignore email if you think it is a spam! Was it directly sent or through Wikipedia? --Tito Dutta 05:56, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, I have searched in Google, and there is no search results, I don't think he is a known spammer! --Tito Dutta
It was sent through Wikipedia. OK. I deleted the email. Arcandam (talk) 06:44, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What does the italicised second part of the sentence "Sometimes, a particular species can appear in the mist net often because they are easy to catch or the species enjoys being caught for various reasons such as protection or an easy way to catch prey." in the article mist net mean? Arcandam (talk) 03:49, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This desk is for answering questions about how to edit Wikipedia. Meanwhile, the Science Reference Desk is for asking science related questions. So, are you asking because you think there may be something wrong with the article or are you asking about the mist nets themselves? If the latter, the Ref Desk is the place for you. If the former, could you better explain what you feel is wrong with the article? Dismas|(talk) 06:36, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I am asking because I think there may be something wrong with the article, more specifically with that particular sentence in that article, because I do not understand what it means. Does it mean some species (other than humans being silly) enjoy being caught in a mist net? That seems rather unlikely. And the reasons that are provided to explain the fact[citation needed] that some species enjoy being caught are even more puzzling: what kinds of species think getting caught in a mist net themselves is an easy way to catch prey? Does the author mean that birds fly deliberately into mist nets to catch prey that was also caught in the same mist net? Why would any animal seek protection in a mist net? Arcandam (talk) 06:50, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the text in the article is unclear: the use of "enjoys" is very odd (who knows what a wild species "enjoys"?) and I wondered whether the sentence might be vandalism. But using Wikiblame, I find that the whole paragraph was inserted (without references) by User Wildlifegroup3 last November, which suggests that it was in good faith. They also inserted the section Banders, which is also unreferenced, and appears to be from personal experience. You could ask them on their talk page to explain the sentence (and give references!). --ColinFine (talk) 08:57, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wildlifegroup3 edited between 21 November 2011 until 1 December 2011 for a schoolproject and has used a talkpage once so I think it is unlikely that she will respond. I'll send her an e-mail. Arcandam (talk) 09:08, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The word "enjoy" does appear odd for an encyclopedia. Without knowing the subject, I assume the idea is that some species deliberately fly into the mist net so they occur there more often. They may see the net and think it's more solid and offers protection against weather or predators, and predators may see already caught animals and fly in to hunt them. Requests for Comment

I seemed to have missed an RfC regarding changing the way that references are used in the recent deaths pages. I can't even find the history of the decision making for this. I do not know how I can be a part of these RfCs when I would have wanted to vote on some of them. The RfCs are not always pushed to all users (it seems). Just what is it that I'm doing wrong? Nasnema  Chat  08:13, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

At Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Wikipedia policies and guidelines I found an RfC at Talk:Deaths in 2012#RfC: Red links. There I found a discussion at Talk:Deaths in 2012#References format, which points to Talk:Deaths in 2012/Archive 2#RfC: Should we use references, but that seems to have resulted in no change. I have to admit I am also confused. -- Toshio Yamaguchi (tlkctb) 09:28, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your time - I could not see where this decision was made or how or why. It's not as if there is a need to have multiple use of references on the page, except for a plane crash with lots of celebrities. So now it is impossible to use my smartphone or just make a one-click to source. Nasnema  Chat  18:34, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Sound file markup It looks like you need to convert to .mid or .ogx file. Commons has a how to page. .ogg will probably be the easiest. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Software --Canoe1967 (talk) 16:28, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's interesting that the original question of "Why...?" wasn't answered. I've often wondered the same thing. The rest of the online world uses mp3s pretty universally these days. Why not Wikipedia? HiLo48 (talk) 23:14, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If I'm not mistaken, it boils down to two things. First is that ogg is open whereas mp3 is not. Second, mp3 is lossy whereas ogg is not for audio. Those are the two details that jumped out at me after reading the leads to both the MP3 and Ogg articles. Maybe someone else can point us both to a WP guideline page. Dismas|(talk) 23:33, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the guideline, and here's the discussion that led to the decision. It seems to be largely about open source vs patent, as you surmise. - Karenjc 15:09, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Undue Weight and Recentism Regarding a Politician

A recent edit of a politician's wikipedia page was deleted citing undue weight and recentism. According to definitions provided on wikipedia, undue weight means that articles should not give minority views, and recentism is writing or editing without a long-term, historical view, thereby inflating the importance of a topic that has received recent public attention.

It is a fact that this politician has a long history of making outrageous statements, these outrageous statements have have been frequent and have occurred over a period of several years, these outrageous statements have been verified through numerous authoritative sources, these statements have been describe as outrageous by numerous sources, and the politician has never denied these statements and in fact has refused to apologize. As such, how it this undue weight and recentism?

It is a fact that such statements have occurred frequently and over a long period of time. As such, this is a long-term characteristic of this politician and is not just one or two isolated recent events. It is a fact that numerous sites have reported on this behavior describing it as "outrageous." As such, this is not the viewpoint of a minority.

Is Wikipedia only presenting superficial information or a complete picture of this controversy concerning this politician?

And, if this is undue weight and recentism, how does one present facts without this characterization? What if instead of citing one source, numerous sources are cited? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.186.187.171 (talk) 21:49, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Allen West (politician). It may be useful to read Niteshift36's comment on the talkpage, especially this part: "If you have specific items to discuss, then please present them. If all you have are vague 'we need a controversy section' suggestions, then you'll find little support". Find a couple of reliable sources about Allen and make a proposal on the talkpage. Arcandam (talk) 23:06, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • In addition, you aren't being ignored. The fact is, over half a dozen different editors have removed that (or similar) information in the past couple of days and several are addressing your questions on the talk page. You've had several policies suggested to you and it doesn't appear you've read some of them. For example, nobody has disputed that West said what you claim, yet you insist is is being denied. Then you stated you would "compile a more thorough list" to establish what you call a "significant and consistent pattern". That shows you still haven't read WP:OR or WP:SYNTH and gives a strong indication that there is more of an agenda involved here. Niteshift36 (talk) 17:59, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Help finding picture for page.

    Hello,

I am in need of a website where I can get a picture that meets wikipedias copyright standards for the comedian, Tom Cotter.

The following is the page for which I need the picture:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Cotter_(comedian)

If someone could either add a picture themself to Tom Cotter's page, OR give me a good website which has a good picure of Tom Cotter it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks, 01:15, 15 July 2012 (UTC)01:15, 15 July 2012 (UTC)~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChristianMartin0624 (talkcontribs)

You could ask Tom or his agents to donate a photo with the correct licencing for Wikipedia to use it. There's a link on his web site. RudolfRed (talk) 01:18, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is very unlikely that you will find a photo of him anywhere on the web that meets Wikipedia's constraints. --ColinFine (talk) 17:44, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OTRS has the how to. It can get wierd though. First you need a file name after you upload the image that the BLP wants. Then the copyright holder sends an email with the file name. Commons may be best if they want the image used for other language wikipedias. The BLP maintains personality rights so it is hard for anyone to sell stuff and use his image. The copyright holder has to allow other uses but can legally require 'attribution' to himself as the original creator.--Canoe1967 (talk) 21:14, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It looks very much to me like two photographs of the same person, but taken 20 years apart. In any event, the photograph you point at as the correct one has very good provenance, being from the collection of the Library of Congress, and is a much cleaner photograph than the one in the article, so I have replaced it. By the way, normally a request like yours should be made at the Spanish Wikipedia (their help desk is here). This help desk is generally for English Wikipedia issues. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:56, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It appears to me the concern is about the article here at the English Wikipedia, based on the first two links in the post. Why is this a Spanish Wikipedia issue? RudolfRed (talk) 16:57, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good catch, my mistake editing while tired . When I navigated to the photo link it is to the local display on the Spanish Wikipedia of the image in Commons I saw only the what links here link, which was to the Spanish Wikipedia article (which I fixed). life insurance

After paying three regular ins. premiums, two different policy holders finds that both of them are declared illegal policy holders on the strength of their signatures as their original signatures are not available anywhere in the records of the insurance co & the proposal of both the policy holders were signed by some one unknown person. In other words, two different policy proposals are signed by one person other then the actual policy holders. Can you pl advise what are the legal rights of both the actual policy holders. Can they demand insurance co. to declare both the policies as NULL & VOID and claim the full amount of premiums they have paid ? Of course, the claim will be submitted only after confirmation that both the proposals were signed by one person other then any of the actual policy holders. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.49.66.238 (talk) 05:10, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Citing a researcher by name?

When reporting a statement of fact based on cited research, is it preferred or not to qualify the statement with the researcher's name/affiliation? For example, does Wikipedia prefer statements such as "The research of Dr Smith at Foobar St University shows that giraffes are on average 18 feet tall" vs simply "giraffes are on average 18 feet tall"? (With each statement followed by <ref>reference details</ref>, of course.) 71.185.49.67 (talk) 11:36, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In a stub article, citing the researcher by name might unbalance the article, and I would only recommend doing so if it were a new discovery (5th moon of Pluto), or doing so allowed hyperlink to the researcher's article, otherwise the info and hyperlinked university should suffice. In a medium article I'd follow the format of the rest of the article, and in a lengthy article I'd only include the new discovery information, unless a split seemed imminent. Dru of Id (talk) 12:55, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If Dr. Smith has an article on WP and is widely acknowlged to be one of the world's top giraffe experts it is probably ok to mention and wikilink him specifically. Otherwise just a plain statement will do. Roger (talk) 13:30, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If it's not a simple uncontroversial statement like the height of giraffes then it's often good to write who said it. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:54, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Non-free manga cover

In an article about a manga series, I want to replace the current non-free image in the infobox with another non-free image I think is more appropriate. Should I be bold and make this change or should I discuss this first? I ask this mainly because both images are non-free and replacing the current image with the one I want to use in the article would result in the current images deletion after 7 days. -- Toshio Yamaguchi (tlkctb) 12:34, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If it is a better image you could try changing it. If it is reverted then you have 7 days to reach consensus on which should be used.--Canoe1967 (talk) 21:00, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is better in the sense that it is the actual image of the manga cover, while the image currently used seems to be the cover of a DVD. -- Toshio Yamaguchi (tlkctb) 12:24, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Given that the topic of the article (and of the proposed new articles after the split) are very specialized, I don't expect much people would have an opinion on the split. My advice would be, go to the page history of the article and look for people who contributed a lot to the article and drop them a message on their talk page asking for input on the split. User:SandyGeorgia seems to be a main contributor from what I could see from a quick look at the history. Apart from that, I'd try the venues I mentioned above. -- Toshio Yamaguchi (tlkctb) 19:02, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Move articles to talk page.

Recently I had to prune an extremely large article. It was so large that making any edit at all was locking my browser. In order to make the edits, I split the article into sub article and edited those. Having used the sub articles to re-create the original (now pruned), I would like to retain the split articles for reference (so that other editors can re-instate material if they think I went to far for example). Since the articles were created by me and have not been signaficantly edited I would be within my rights to sppedily delete them. Would I be within my rights to move them to sub talk pages of the main article (with hind sight, this is what I should have done in the first place). One of the articles is under a deletion discussion and it looks like concensus is going to be to delete. Op47 (talk) 18:44, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I was just reading your article on chiropractic which seemed to be pretty well-informed. I was a little thrown, though, by the last sentence in the Intro (or first) section: "A systematic review found that the risk of death from manipulations to the neck outweighs the benefits.[35]"

I have been to a chiropractor several times over the years and always had amazing results, as have my friends/family that referred me. I found this sentence a little scary (like if I was reading this article for the first time prior to seeking chiropractic treatment, I might think twice) so read the article cited to justify this sentence: Deaths after Chiropractic: A review of published cases. The article actually states that there have been a total of 26 reported cases of death from chiropractic since 1934 (that's 26 deaths in 78 years of published data). Also, there were only 10 cases where the death occurred within one day of the treatment--the article states that the rest of the fatalities occurred up to 58 days following the treatment (not sure how linked the two can be with this amount of time--almost 2 months--passing between treatment and death).

I'm writing to Wiki to see if this sentence can't be deleted from the posted article...it seems really misleading to me and I know a lot of people read Wiki to get basic info on a subject and I would hate anyone else to be thrown by such a misleading sentence when the rest of the article seemed so well informed/impartial.

    US informationin Germany

I am an American living in Germany and I am using the English translation for the the Wikipedia web site. I am specifically looking for chart information for several American music albums. However, the Wiki page for the albums have only the German and Swiss music chart information (i.e. this album hit # 26 on the German music chart). I'm sure this is because the information is coming through a German ISP. There's nothing wrong with German music charts - just not the information I'm looking for right now. Is there a way to connect with the US Wiki site so I can get US-focused information? Thanks. 07:47, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Kfoote (talk)

I'm very new to Wiki Editing (a few days), i wish to propose a change to a semi-protected article's table layout. I copied the 'View Source' and compiled the table in a new format in My Sandbox. However, it doesn't look like other users can view test pages in another's sandbox.

Is there anywhere on Wiki that one can display a proposed change to an article so people can see how it looks? I think it's a great change and needs to be viewed by others who can then make their comments and opinions known.

Am i right in understanding that the main Sandbox gets written over pretty much instantly so i can't link to that? ManchesterSpeedway (talk) 09:59, 16 July 2012 (UTC) ManchesterSpeedway (talk) 10:01, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I used to come to wikipedia all the time, but, alas, I fear today is the beginning of the end. When I viewed a page, suddenly, there appeared at the bottom of my page, this big ugly blue search bar for related terms. It says "related terms" as a link to automatically search those at random I supposed, then beside that "online advertising" because I just might want to click that! Then, a typical white search box. It is at the bottom of the wiki page and interferes with my line of vision, rather like having subtitles or closed captioning on when you would rather watch the movie. This bar also has to load with every page, creating a slight lag, sort of like a hiccup, where everything stops for a moment as you are trying to scroll down the page. Then, it suddenly moves but more than likely will instead present the popup message that a script working would you like to stop the script or proceed. This happens on every page and must be related to this new search box. I resent this intrusion in my wiki experience here and feel it is a cheesy and unnecessary addition to your site. Whoever decided to add it should discuss it with a board group or something and have it removed very quickly. I won't return until it is gone, the reading has become too cumbersome now and, after all, there really are a lot of different sites to go to, I had simply become accustomed to coming here. Thank you.

I also think it is ridiculous that my submission for help has to be treated like I am adding an article. I do not add articles, I do not care to nor do I know how. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.79.61.133 (talk) 17:23, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Special page named as an article

Hello, its me again. I have just found out that on clicking Special:WhatLinksHere/Wikipedia:Help_desk, we are going to a new article project page, which is a sub article of the real page. But in the url it is in Special namespace. However it looks outside as if it was in an article project namespace. The cool thing is that it has got a talkpage and it goes to the talk page of main one. The same phenomenon occurs for talk page too! Is this only for me? Shall we report it? Vanischenu mTalk 03:36, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand what you're describing. I see a list of pages that link to the Help Desk. Are you seeing something different? RudolfRed (talk) 04:13, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry that I was in a rush. I incorrectly named it as article page. If you click on the link on What links here from toolbox and go to that page you can see that the tab Project page is ON. (above the term Pages that link to "Wikipedia:Help desk") (If you were on your user page the tab User page would be present instead.) It virtually appears to be a sub page of the page Wikipedia:Help desk.
Since What links here is a special page, it should have been a Special page tab. Also, unlike special pages, it has a talk page. If you click on it, the talk page of Help desk will be reached. I will clarify this more elaborately, if you want.Vanischenu mTalk 04:46, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm trying to figure out what you mean but I'm stumped. Any page that you go to where you click what links here, the tab at the top points back to the original page, in whatever namespace it is in, and the talk page is to that page's talk page. So if you go to an article and click what links here the tab at the top is to the "Article" and the talk page goes to the article's talk page. All pages in the Wikipedia namespace are described as project pages but that is just a description. They're still in the Wikipedia namespace.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 06:45, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I believe this is a consequence of the fact that Special:WhatLinksHere is not its own page, but rather a certain way of viewing a page. Regardless, it is my understanding that Vanischenu is pointing out the discrepancy between the way the page tabs appear when visiting Special:WhatLinksHere vs. say Special:BrokenRedirects. I've uploaded an illustration to hopefully help the point across. BigNate37(T) 07:01, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly. This was what I had been trying to explain. Thank you. (I am sorry for giving you misleading info). I just wondered why only what links here looked like that. Vanischenu mTalk 08:12, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's not the only page: Special:MovePage also acts this way. The reason I would think is because WhatLinksHere and MovePage are specific to a particular page so they could set it up that way (and it makes sense that they did doesn't it?) BrokenRedirects and PrefixIndex and ProtectedTitle etc. all are non-specific to a single page. However, there is some inconsistency in that there are other special pages that are specific to a single pages that don't do so.Fuhghettaboutit (talk) --12:02, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you all for being kind and having patience. Now this is explained. Thank you so much. And a special appreciation for BigNate37 for uploading the image. Vanischenu mTalk 13:32, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Howeber I have got another thing to hang on and keep wondering :P. Of the two you have listed here, why one virtually appears to be a subset (the second red circle in the image) while the other does not? Vanischenu mTalk 13:32, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
    [reply]
True but the whole scheme was not set up apparently to have perfect consistency; Wikipedia, in many respects, organically evolved with different developers all having their hands in the pie. Interestingly, while the protection interface does not manifest as a "special page", it too has the "← linked name of article" just below the article name.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 17:18, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    MediaWiki license

I work for a non-profit organization and the organization has planned to create manuals using mediawiki. Should we need a GNU free license to create the manuals? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beesfamily (talkcontribs) 10:06, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The software is available free under the GNU license but how you license the documents you create with the software is your choice - it doesn't affect the software license. Manuals for internal use in an organization would usually be fully copyrighted by the organization but if you want to share the manuals with other organizations you could consider one of the free licenses. GNU Free Document License might not be the most suitable for your purposes so take a look at Creative Commons license for the variety of options available under the CC system. Wikipedia preserving old aspect ratio of SVG image after update at Wiki Commons

    Hello world,

I recently created and uploaded this SVG image to Wiki Commons and used it in this Wikipedia article.

After some additional editing of the SVG image - including a change of aspect ratio - I updated it at Wiki Commons, where it is being display properly. However on the preview page Wikipedia obviously still preserves the old aspect ratio and so shows the SVG image distorted: click me - actually the HTML defines the image size as width="800" height="566" while it should be 800*381.

Any idea on how to get the aspect ratio right? Is this a permanent bug or will a batchjob realize the change in aspect ratio as some point?

    Thanks

Biography of Steve Abana from Solomon Islands

This statement as mentioned by the Writer Mr. Casper Luiramo is misleading and does not speak well of the person. "He then entered business, exporting cocoa, after making money during the height of the Solomon Islands conflicts by acting at a middleman for compensation claimants" He was never a middle man for compensation claimants as mentioned here. Infact he was a victim himself. He started off his businness before the ethnic tension, and his business picked up after he won a loan contract to buy off a small shipping service. He then expanded from there and venture into other businness opportunities and eventually into politics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.151.20.118 (talk) 12:25, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I use ya'll lots for checking things out and I noticed that in the Article on "Ohio" that under the history dealing with the statehood, Eisenhower was listed as doing it, in 1803, Eisenhower was born, not much of a politician at that point, I think you may mean the guy in the picture to the right of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Janismarie26 (talkcontribs) 15:00, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that Eisenhower declared the 1st March 1803 as the date Ohio was admitted into the Union and he did this in 1953. At any rate, Eisenhower was born in 1890. Hope that cleared it up for you. Andie ▶(Candy)◀ 15:08, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The short answer is that you can't. The information you provide has to be verifiable by other editors, so just listing the mother's name wouldn't help (though an interview with her conducted by a third party would be helpful). Question on my article that was on speedy delete

Hello, I had created an article on shawlsmith london, it is the only company to internationally produce and distribute scarves in the city of raleigh and the entire state of north carolina. The article was speedily deleted citing A7. THe facts that I have mentioned already signify the importance of shawlsmith london to the city and state of raleigh and were not included in the article. Their designs mix british sophistication with southern charm which also does not exists in any brand in the world. Each year they recruit many new interns from the south who are able to use their platform to become better leaders. None of this aformentioned information was in the original article. And I ask what more significance would the article need for it to be undeleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Uamalik (talkcontribs) 20:46, 17 July 2012 (UTC) Uamalik (talk) 20:52, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What was missing was evidence that the company was notable. And indeed a Google search suggests that it is not - the first 30 hits for "shawlsmith london" included no third-party reference to it. You should also read the Wikipedia conflict of interest policy. Maproom (talk) 21:14, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How about #9, its from celebritycafe.com if that's not third party what is? and numerous others which fall under "the first 30 hits" which are just online retailers which carry the brand. And the second page also falling within the first 30 hits is yacoubian your statement seems a bit biased because there are many other hits that are from thrid party companies that are not shawlsmith london. How about the notable fact that it is putting a small southern city on the map with accounts in major retail stores such as Neiman Marcus, Barney's etc. How much more notable does it have to be? Please advise as I have read the policies and spent a lot of time and effort on this article to be completely dismissed. For a person to learn about the city of Raleigh is this not something of notable value to them? In fact two separate publication sources thecharlotteobserver and wakeliving had published about shawlsmithlondon but those sources where not given because the material was either not used or was in print and not online source. I happen to know of the ceo becuase of his involvement in my surrounding community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Uamalik (talkcontribs) 21:47, 17 July 2012 (UTC) Uamalik (talk) 22:03, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The notability guideline for businesses and organisations is at WP:ORG. The general notability guideline is at WP:GNG. The company must satisfy one or the other to merit an encyclopaedia article here. Celebritycafe.com appears to be a listings site. Listings are not "significant independent coverage", and nor is the fact that various websites offer the copmany's products for sale. Selling things made in a small city to big national shops does not make a company notable. What you need is articles about this company. Newspaper or magazine articles, tv coverage. Real news or features, not advertising copy or press releases, which verify the company's achievements in terms of the criteria in the notability guidelines. This will provide you with the evidence of notability you need. - Karenjc 22:23, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Karenjc for that simple yet informative answer. The company had articles written about it in a couple news affiliates that are in print and I was not able to get their information which is why I did not use them as a source. I will rewrite this article when I do. Thanks once more for the best answer I had gotten yet.

(edit conflict)A record of the program may no longer exist. Many of those programs were produced by local TV stations, many weren't preserved on video tape or kinescope, and even if they were, they may have been wiped or erased as the station may have recycled or reused the recording media. NRHP articles & references

Hi, I have a question about NRHP articles and another question for references. I've done a fair amount of poking around Wikipdeia, and I've discovered the "edit", "history", and other buttons and places and policies like the "manual of style", but it seems like the manual of style is a general guideline, and doesn't have many specifics for the topic I want to write about, NRHP. How should that type of article be designed / written? My second question is how do references work and how should they be used? I clicked the edit section button for a references section on an article, and all it had was "

" - but the main article edit button shows things within the same type of that match the references, between ref tags formatted like HTML. Can this be explained? Thanks TheSilentJay (talk) 21:52, 17 July 2012 (UTC) [reply]
