Resource Request

Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Finding a source

Tips for finding a source yourself

  • Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
  • Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
    • Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
  • Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
    • Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE, Taylor & Francis and much more.
  • Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
  • Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.
  • If the article is paywalled, a browser extension may bypass the paywall. Try Unpaywall for academic journals or Bypass Paywalls Clean (Firefox, Chrome) for news websites.

Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request

  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
  • Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
    • point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
    • share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
    • upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
    • email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
  • Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

The New York World of April 15, 1922

Is it possible to access an article published in the New York World of April 15, 1922, entitled "Under Serb rule"?

SincerelyTheDiaboloBoy (talk) 19:30, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@TheDiaboloBoy, It is likely included in this digitization. Eddie891 Talk Work 01:16, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Eddie891, thank you for giving me a good direction for further research. But I must admit the link leads to a completely different newspaper. I am looking for the New York Word. This one though is the Evening World. Of course both newspapers were published in New York, and eventually they merged in 1931.--TheDiaboloBoy (talk) 01:54, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My university has microform of the paper you're looking for. If you have a wikipedia article in mind that you would use the article to improve, or really any reason it would help I'd be happy to dig through the reel, but it's a lot of work if this is just on a whim. Eddie891 Talk Work 02:23, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Eddie891,thank you for your willingness to share knowledge. I am thinking about writing an article. I am not sure what topic I should write about, but an article about a Serbian newspaper sounds like the most logical choice. TheDiaboloBoy (talk) 09:38, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm so sorry, I spoke too soon. It seems that my library's collection goes only to January of 1922. Hopefully someone else has better luck. Again, my sincere apologies. Eddie891 Talk Work 13:28, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Eddie891, no, it is okay! Thank you for your generous efforts. You have done more than expected! I am not sure I can somehow repay you somehow. My collection is made up only of Serbian and Croatian newspapers. I keep looking for more material that I need for writing an article about the influence of the US press on Yugoslav society.TheDiaboloBoy (talk) 19:53, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Swedish newspaper articles

Hi all, please can you help me access these two newspaper archives? I need them to write an article on a Swedish television series.

Coin945 (talk) 02:52, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Coin945: You're unlikely to find anyone with a subscription to these archives. However, if you have specific articles you want, we may be able to obtain them via other means. Compassionate727 (T·C) 14:24, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Via other means"? Haha, the way you phrased it made it sound like you were planning to call the mafia. It's hard to say the articles as you don't get a preview in the search to work out which have the best infomormatin. But, if it helps, the actual newspapers that are the most represented in the archive are Expressen, Göteborgsposten, Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter (archived here) Svenska Dagbladet, and Arbetet Nyhetern.--Coin945 (talk) 15:55, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian TV ratings data (specifically 1987-1992)

Sorry if this seems like an odd request because I'm not looking for one specific work/journal. I was directed here by someone else. I'm in a so far eighteen-month long process of improving the coverage of the Degrassi teen drama franchise, specifically to do with the 80s/90s versions of the franchise, which aired on CBC. I'm specifically looking for any Canadian ratings data between 1987 and 1992 if any exists to cite the same way pages about American shows cite Nielsen ratings. Various newspapers of the time claim the show averaged over a million followers weekly, and I'm looking for exact figures to add for each episode to support this instead of going off estimates. Hi guys, I'm looking for the Worms game reviews from the magazines listed above (the list will be updated if I find info about other reviews that I need but can't find online). I'm working on the article about Worms in another language section of Wikipedia, and I have reasons to believe that these articles will help me with my research. These particular magazines are nowhere to be found online and not even for sale, and in my country there's no way to request anything from American or British libraries. Hoping you could help me.

Thanks, Coolak (talk) 11:22, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Coolak: Requested via ILL. We'll see how many of these I actually obtain copies of. Compassionate727 (T·C) 14:23, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Coolak:, Are you only interested in reviews for the original Amiga/PC port of "Worms"? I found a review for the Game Boy port from British "Nintendo Magazine system". KHR FolkMyth (talk) 15:04, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@KHR FolkMyth I'm interested in its reviews for any platform, but I've already been doing a several year long research and I already have most of them, including NMS. I just want to also get the ones not available online. I occasionally find such and will add them to this list, provided that I exhausted other options of getting them. If it's available online, there's a 99% chance I already have it. Coolak (talk) 17:59, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, then. KHR FolkMyth (talk) 18:28, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Coolak: What year was this game made? My librarian says they won't be able to find these without a sense of when to look. Compassionate727 (T·C) 15:25, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Compassionate727: Hi, each magazine on my list already had the specific issue with the Worms review, but now I've also added the month/year of each. You probably misunderstood me, there's no need to search through a lot of magazines, in each case the specific issue is known. Thank you. Coolak (talk) 19:49, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Facepalm Facepalm I can't believe I didn't realize those were issue numbers. Forwarded this information to my librarian. Compassionate727 (T·C) 12:49, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Compassionate727: Actually... If your librarian is willing to search some magazines whithout a specific issue in mind, I would dare to add several such magazines to the list. Hadn't done so at first because I didn't think it was possible at all. If that's okay with you and your librarian, I would definitely appreciate this additional help. Added several such magazines where I'm unsure about any Worms acticles, for each one I narrowed down the range of issues as much as possible. Coolak (talk) 21:47, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, here is where I am at. My librarian has submitted three of the requests. One was to the Library of Congress, who I am told will not respond for a while. There are no lenders for the PSExtreme article; I can't help you there. For PC Power and CD-ROM Games, my librarian says that they will need to ask lenders outside the United States and that they "will take extra time to fill" but that she can pursue it "if these articles are important for your research." I'm sure the cost is a salient factor, even though she didn't mention it. Do you want me to ask for those two? Compassionate727 (T·C) 15:55, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ping Coolak Compassionate727 (T·C) 15:56, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can't be 100% sure that it will turn out very important for my research, but I have reasons to believe it may. These particular two magazines aren't for sale anywhere on eBay, etc, and they're not even in the British libraries that are open for online requests. I can say this is pretty important for me. Then, if I can express my gratitude in a form of some donation or anything, that is also no problem. Coolak (talk) 21:13, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Coolak: I have told her to make the requests. And no need for a donation or anything; it will be my college's stuffy millionaire donors paying for these, not me. Compassionate727 (T·C) 22:03, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"The poll arrived at the strengths of the teams we had played in the regular season and the fact that we had defeated the Southwestern Conference Champs" Rast said. "We just grinned accepted it and said we will claim being #1."

Torrossa is kind of annoying; my library has a subscription but I have to physically be there in person (no proxy), and it doesn't let me download or save or print many of them: "Streaming only | NO download | NO Copy/paste | NO Printing", so I'm not really sure how people can get these to you. Umimmak (talk) 05:11, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Making printscreens/screenshots of these pages, or make photos on the phone if that is impossible? That could arguably violate the licence terms for your library, but there isn't much choice in this situation, particularly if you don't have much spare time to spend in the library. Colin MacInnes, "Arts in society. Photo pageants", New Society, 16 August 1973. Page number(s) unknown. Probably a short article; "Photo pageants" may be a subtitle, but very likely it's instead the title of a short piece within a longer one titled "Arts in society".

@Worldbruce: I wonder what you ordered by ILL, because the page numbers are a little weird. Please tell me more about it to learn eventual alternatives. Thank you – Doc TaxonTalk 11:06, 26. Nov 2022 (UTC)
@SusunW and Doc Taxon: Les portulans grecs II does not contain any mentions of Ivanitzky. Why does a Google search say it does, on a page 100 that it doesn't have? Most likely, Google scanned multiple works into a single file, then attached the metadata of just the first work to the file. What is the work that actually contains the information about Ivanitzky?
You can ask Google by starting from the link you gave above, and clicking the link "Where's the rest of this book?" Then, in the "Report problems" section, click "contact us". Then click the radio button "I have a question or feedback about a book". Describe the symptoms and they will examine the file and correct the metadata (maybe even split the file into multiple works).
Most likely you want Frost, Henry H. (1960). The functional sociology of Emile Waxweiler. Mémoires. Vol. LIII(5). Brussels: Académie royale des sciences, des lettres et des beaux-arts de Belgique. pp. 99-101 (or whatever pages mention Ivanitzky). OCLC 4790370. I say that because Les Portulans Grecs II is Mémoires volume LIII(1), and Nadine Ivanitzky wrote about Emile Waxweiler in 1917. Frost likely cites Ivanitzky and/or discusses her work. I don't have ready access to Frost's work, but another volunteer may be able to help you. --Worldbruce (talk) 04:28, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Received, thank you. However, the second article ends "to be continued". Does anyone know where part 3 is, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:24, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting a primary source relevant to Indian Nationalist Leader Subash Chandra Bose's antisemetic legacy

ISBN 978-1-4411-8898-4 (Israel and the European Left-Between Solidarity and Delegitimization) is one of the sources given on this article giving credence to his anti-semetic legacy. I found it very interesting but could not find any available ways of reviewing it online, and no library near me contains it as well. I would appreciate p112 and p113 of the book named to be given to me please. Thanks! :)

Thanks, Based47 (talk) 23:43, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Based47, the book is available here and has a preview for pages 111 and 112 (113 is not relevant for Bose but is also available). I can confirm that there is no misquoting or taking out of that source's context. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 00:32, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Home (officer)

It should contain the likeness of Robert Home. Thanks, 𝕱𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖎𝖆 (talk) 12:15, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ficaia: Page 363 of The Graphic, 12 April 1879 has an obituary of Robert Home. I'm not sure if this is what you want, but I've sent it to you. —Bruce1eetalk 15:56, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bruce1ee Thanks for that. According to the source I'm looking at, there should also be an engraved likeness of Home, but perhaps it's mistaken. Also, could you give me the number or issue of that article? I know it's from volume 19. 𝕱𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖎𝖆 (talk) 16:07, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Understanding Dylan by Paul Williams (via Rock's Backpages)

  • Williams, Paul (August 1966). "Understanding Dylan". Crawdaddy!.

For Obviously 5 Believers. The article should be available via Rock's Backpages, by the look of it.
