History

According to tradition, an Ahir named Bhola was the zamindar of Nauner sometime around the year 1700. Many wells and tanks on the village lands are popularly attributed to him. The local garhi, or fort, is popularly attributed to Almas Ali Khan, who served as a governor under the Nawabs of Awadh.[3]: 244

At the turn of the 20th century, Nauner was described as a large agricultural village that included 42 hamlets. With a population of 6,020 as of the 1901 census, it was one of the most populous settlements in the entire district at that point. It had one school for boys and another for girls. The village was jointly held by the Raja of Awa (in Etah district) and the Thakur of Kotla.[3]: 83, 244
